This General Public Lic ense applies to most of the F ree Software F oundation's software and to any other pr ogram whose authors commit to using it. (Some other F ree Software F oundation software is cov ered by the GNU L esser General Public License instead .) Y ou can apply it to your progr ams, too . When we speak of free software , we are ref erring to freedom, not price. Our General Public Lic enses are designed to make sure that you ha ve the freedom to distribute c opies of free software (and charge for this service if you wish), that you rec eive source c ode or can get it if you want it , that you can change the software or use pieces of it in new free progr ams; and that you know you can do these things. T o protect your rights, we need to make restrictions that forbid any one to den y you these righ ts or to ask y ou to surrender the righ ts. These restrictions translate to c er tain responsibilities f or you if you distribute copies of the software, or if you modify it. F or example , if you distribute copies of such a program, whether gratis or for a f ee, you must give the recipients all the rights that you ha ve. Y ou must make sure that they , too, receiv e or can get the source code . And you must show them these terms so they know their rights.
ASUS Eee PC A-23 W e protec t y our rights with two steps: (1) copyright the software, and (2) offer you this lic ense which gives you legal permission to copy , distribute and/or modify the software. Also , for each author's protection and ours, we wan t to make cer tain that everyone understands that there is no warran ty for this free software. If the software is modiï¬Âed by someone else and passed on, we want its recipients to know that what they ha ve is not the original, so that any problems introduc ed by others will not reï¬Âect on the original authors' reputations. F inally , any free program is threa tened constantly by software patents. W e wish to av oid the danger that redistributors of a free program will individually obtain paten t licenses, in effect making the program proprietary . T o prevent this , we hav e made it clear that any patent must be licensed f or everyone's free use or not licensed at all. The precise terms and conditions f or copying , distribution and modiï¬Âcation follow . TERMS AND C ONDITIONS FOR C OPYING, DISTRIBUTION AND MODIFICA TION 0. This License applies to any program or other w ork which contains a notice placed by the c opyright holder saying it ma y be distributed under the terms of this General Public License . The "Program", below , refers to any such pr ogram or work, and a "work based on the Pr ogram" means either the Progr am or any deriva tive work under copyright law: that is to say , a work containing the Pr ogram or a por tion of it, either verba tim or with modiï¬Âcations and/or translated into another language. (Hereinafter , translation is included without limitation in the term "modiï¬Âcation".) Each licensee is addressed as "you". Activities other than copying , distribution and modiï¬Âcation are not cov ered by this License; they are outside its scope . The act of running the Pr ogram is not restricted, and the output from the P rogram is cov ered only if its conten ts constitute a work based on the P rogram (independent of having been made b y running the Progr am). Whether that is true depends on what the P rogram does.
A-24 Appendix 1. Y ou may copy and distribut e verbatim copies of the P rogram's source code as y ou receive it , in any medium, provided that you conspicuously and appropriat ely publish on each copy an appropriate cop yright notice and disclaimer of warranty; k eep intact all the notices that ref er to this License and to the absenc e of any warranty; and give any other recipients of the P rogram a copy of this License along with the P rogram. Y ou may charge a f ee for the phy sical act of transferring a copy , and you may a t your option offer warr anty protection in exchange for a fee . 2. Y ou may modify your c opy or copies of the P rogram or any portion of it, thus forming a work based on the P rogram, and copy and distribute such modiï¬Âcations or work under the terms of Section 1 above , provided that y ou also meet all of these conditions: a) Y ou mu st cause t he modiï¬Âed ï¬Âles to carry prominent notice s stating that you changed the ï¬Âles and the dat e of any change . b) Y ou must cause any work that you distribute or publish, that in whole or in par t con tains or is derived from the P rogram or any part thereof , to be licensed as a whole at no charge to all third parties under the terms of this License. c) I f the modiï¬Âed progr am normally reads commands interactively when run, you must cause it, when started running for such inter active use in the most ordinary way , to print or display an announcement including an appr opriate copyright notice and a notice that there is no w arranty (or else, saying that you pro vide a warranty) and that users may redistribut e the program under these conditions , and telling the user how to view a copy of this Lic ense. (Exception: if the P rogram itself is interactive but does not normally print such an announcement , your work based on the P rogram is not requir ed to print an announcement.)
ASUS Eee PC A-25 These requiremen ts apply to the modiï¬Âed work as a whole. If identiï¬Âable sections of that work are not derived from the P rogram, and can be reasonably considered independent and separ ate works in themselves , then this License, and its terms, do not apply to those sections when you distribute them as separate w orks. But when you distribute the same s ections as par t of a whole which is a work based on the Pr ogram, the distribution of the whole must be on the terms of this License , whose permissions for other licensees extend to the entire whole , and thus to each and every par t regardless of who wrote it. Thus, it is not the inten t of this section to claim rights or contest your rights to work written entir ely by you; rather , the intent is to ex ercise the right to control the distribution of deriv ative or collective w orks based on the Pr ogram. In addition, mere aggregation of another work not based on the Pr ogram with the Progr am (or with a work based on the Pr ogram) on a volume of a stor age or distribution medium does not bring the other work under the scope of this License . 3. Y ou may copy and distribut e the Program (or a w ork based on it, under Section 2) in objec t code or ex ecutable form under the terms of Sections 1 and 2 above provided that y ou also do one of the following: a) A ccompany it with the complet e corresponding machine- readable source c ode, which must be distributed under the terms of Sections 1 and 2 above on a medium customarily used for software inter change; or , b) Accompan y it with a written offer , valid for at least three years , to give any third party , for a charge no mor e than your cost of phy sically per forming source distribution, a complete machine-readable copy of the c orresponding source code , to be distributed under the terms of Sections 1 and 2 above on a medium customarily used for software inter change; or ,
A-26 Appendix c) Accompany it with the inf ormation you receiv ed as to the offer to distribute c orresponding source code . ( This alternative is allowed only f or noncommercial distribution and only if you receiv ed the program in object code or executable f orm with such an offer , in accord with Subsection b above.) The source c ode for a work means the pref erred form of the work f or making modiï¬Âcations to it. For an ex ecutable work, complete source code means all the source c ode for all modules it contains , plus any associated interface deï¬Ânition ï¬Âles, plus the scripts used to control compilation and installation of the ex ecutable. How ever , as a sp ecial exc eption, the source code distributed need not include anything that is normally distributed (in either source or binary form) with the major components (compiler , ker nel, and so on) of the operating system on which the ex ecutable runs, unless that component itself accompanies the ex ecutable. If distribution of executable or object code is made by offering access to cop y from a designated place , then offering equivalent access to cop y the source code from the same plac e counts as distribution of the source code , even though third parties are not compelled to copy the sour ce along with the object code. 4. Y ou may not copy , modify , sublicense , or distribute the Program exc ept as expressly provided under this Lic ense. Any att empt other wise to c opy , modify , sublicense or distribute the Program is void , and will automatically terminate y our rights under this License. Howev er , par ties who hav e receiv ed copies, or rights, from y ou under this License will not hav e their licenses terminated so long as such par ties remain in full c ompliance. 5. Y ou are not required t o accept this License , since you hav e not signed it. However , nothing else grants you permission to modify or distribute the Pr ogram or its derivativ e works. These actions are prohibited by la w if you do not accept this License . Therefore , by modifying or distributing the Progr am (or any work based on the Pr ogram), you indicate your acc eptance of this License to do so , and all its terms and c onditions for c opying , distributing or modifying the Pr ogram or works based on it.
ASUS Eee PC A-27 6. Each time you redistribute the P rogram (or an y work based on the Pr ogram), the recipient automatically receiv es a license from the original licensor to copy , distribute or modify the Program subject to these terms and conditions. Y ou may not impose any further restrictions on the recipients' exer cise of the rights granted herein. Y ou are not responsible for enf orcing compliance b y third par ties t o this License. 7. If , as a consequence of a court judgment or allegation of patent infringement or for an y other reason (not limited to pat ent issues), conditions are imposed on you (whether b y court order , agreement or other wise) that c ontradict the conditions of this License , they do not excuse y ou from the conditions of this License . If you cannot distribute so as to satisfy simultaneously your obliga tions under this License and any other pertinent obligations, then as a consequence you may not distribut e the Program a t all. or example, if a patent license would not permit ro yalty-free redistribution of the Pr ogram by all those who receiv e copies directly or indirectly through you , then the only way y ou could satisfy both it and this License would be to refrain entir ely from distribution of the Pr ogram. If any portion of this sec tion is held in valid or unenf orceable under any particular circumstance, the balance of the section is intended to apply and the section as a whole is intended to apply in other circumstances. It is not the purpose of this sec tion to induce y ou to infringe any patents or other property right claims or to contest validity of any such claims; this section has the sole pur pose of prot ecting the integrity of the free software distribution system, which is implemented by public lic ense practices. Many people hav e made generous contributions to the wide r ange of software distributed through that system in r eliance on consistent application of tha t system; it is up to the author/donor to decide if he or she is willing to distribute software through any other syst em and a licensee cannot impose that choice.
A-28 Appendix This section is intended to make thoroughly clear what is believ ed to be a consequence of the rest of this Lic ense. 8. If the distribution and/or use of the Program is restricted in certain countries either by pat ents or by copyright ed inter faces , the original copyright holder who places the P rogram under this License may add an explicit geographical distribution limitation ex cluding those countries, so that distribution is permitted only in or among countries not thus ex cluded. In such case , this License incorporates the limitation as if written in the body of this License . 9. The Free Software F oundation may publish revised and/or new versions of the General Public Lic ense from time to time . Such new versions will be similar in spirit to the present v ersion, but may differ in detail to address new problems or c oncerns. Each version is giv en a distinguishing version number . If the Program speciï¬Âes a version number of this License which applies to it and "any lat er version", you hav e the option of following the t erms and conditions either of that version or of an y later version published by the F ree Sof tware F oundation. If the Program does not specify a version number of this License , you may choose an y version ever published by the F ree Sof tware F oundation. 10. If you wish to incorporate parts of the Progr am into other free programs whose distribution conditions are diff erent, write to the author to ask for permission. F or sof tware which is cop yrighted by the F ree Software F oundation, write to th e F ree Software F oundation; we sometimes make exc eptions for this. Our decision will be guided by the two goals of preserving the free status of all derivativ es of our free software and of promoting the sharing and reuse of software generally .
ASUS Eee PC A-29 NO W ARR ANTY 11. BECAUSE THE PR OGRAM IS LICENSED FREE OF CHARGE, THERE IS NO W ARR ANTY FOR THE PROGRAM, TO THE EXTENT PERMIT TED BY APPLICABLE LA W . EXCEPT WHEN O THER WISE ST A TED IN WRITING THE C OPYRIGHT HOLDERS AND/OR O THER P ARTIES PROVIDE THE PROGRAM "AS IS" WITHOUT W ARR ANTY OF ANY KIND, EITHER EXPRESSED OR IMPLIED , INCL UDING, BUT NOT LIMITED TO , THE IMPLIED W ARR ANTIES OF MERCHANT ABILIT Y AND FITNESS FOR A P ARTICULAR PURPOSE. THE ENTIRE RISK AS T O THE QUALITY AND PERFORMANCE OF THE PROGR AM IS WITH YOU. SHOULD THE PROGRAM PROVE DEFECTIVE, YOU ASSUME THE C OST OF ALL NECESSARY SERVICING, REP AIR OR CORRECTION. 12. IN NO EVENT UNLESS REQUIRED BY APPLICABLE LA W OR AGREED T O IN WRITING WILL ANY C OPYRIGHT HOLDER, OR ANY OTHER P ART Y WHO MA Y MODIFY AND/OR REDISTRIBUTE THE PR OGRAM AS PERMIT TED ABOVE, BE LIABLE TO YOU FOR DAMA GES, INCL UDING ANY GENERAL, SPECIAL, INCIDENT AL OR CONSEQUENTIAL DAMA GES ARISING OUT OF THE USE OR INABILIT Y T O USE THE PROGR AM (INCL UDING BUT NOT LIMITED TO L OSS OF DA T A OR DA T A BEING RENDERED INAC CURA TE OR L OSSES SUST AINED BY Y OU OR THIRD P ARTIES OR A F AIL URE OF THE PROGRAM T O OPERA TE WITH ANY O THER PROGRAMS), E VEN IF SUCH HOLDER OR O THER P ART Y HAS BEEN ADVISED OF THE POSSIBILIT Y OF SUCH DAMAGES.
A-30 Appendix END OF TERMS AND CONDITIONS How to Apply These T erms to Y our New P rograms If you develop a new pr ogram, and you want it to be of the great est possible use to the public, the best wa y to achieve this is to make it free software which everyone can redistribute and change under these terms. T o do so, attach the follo wing notices to the program. It is safest to attach them to the start of each source ï¬Âle to most effectively con vey the ex clusion of warranty ; and each ï¬Âle should have a t least the "copyright" line and a pointer t o where the full notice is found . <one line to give the pr ogram's name and a brief idea of what it does.> Cop yright (C) <year> <name of author> This program is fr ee software; you can redistribute it and/or modify it under the terms of the GNU General Public License as published b y the F ree Software F oundation; either version 2 of the License, or (at your option) an y later version. This program is distributed in the hope tha t it will be useful, but WITHOUT ANY W ARR ANTY; without even the implied warran ty of MERCHANT ABILIT Y or FITNESS FOR A P ARTICULAR PURPOSE. See the GNU General Public License f or more details. Y ou should have rec eived a copy of the GNU General P ublic License along with this program; if not, write to the F ree Software F oundation, Inc., 51 Fr ank lin Str eet, Fifth F loor , Boston, MA 02110-1301 USA. Also add information on how t o contact you by electronic and paper mail. If the program is interactive , make it output a shor t notice like this when it star ts in an int eractive mode: Gnomovision version 69, Cop yright (C) year name of author Gnomovision comes with ABSOL UTEL Y NO W ARRANT Y ; for details type `show w'. This is free software , and you are welcome t o redistribute it under certain conditions; type `show c' for details.
ASUS Eee PC A-31 The hypothetical c ommands `show w' and `show c' should show the appropriate parts of the General Public License. Of course, the commands you use ma y be called something other than `show w' and `show c'; they could even be mouse-clicks or menu items-- whatev er suits your program. Y ou should also get your employer (if y ou work as a programmer) or your school, if any , to sign a "copyright disclaimer" f or the program, if necessary . Here is a sample; alter the names: Y oyodyne , Inc., hereby disclaims all copyright inter est in the program `Gnomovision' (which makes passes at compilers) written by James Hacker . <signature of T y Coon>, 1 April 1989 T y Coon, President of Vice This General Public Lic ense does not permit incorporating your program into pr oprietar y programs . If your program is a subroutine library , you may consider it mor e useful to permit linking proprietar y applications with the library . If this is what you want to do , use the GNU Lesser General P ublic License instead of this License .

The internal modem has been approv ed in accordance with C ouncil Decision 98/482/EC for pan-European single terminal connection to the public switched telephone network (PSTN). Howev er due to differ ences between the individual PSTNs provided in diff erent countries , the approval does not, of itself , give an unconditional assurance of succ essful operation on every PSTN network termination point. In the event of problems you should contact your equipment supplier in the ï¬Ârst instanc e. Overview On 4th August 1998 the Eur opean Council Decision regarding the CTR 21 has been published in the Ofï¬Âcial Jour nal of the EC. The CTR 21 applies to all non voic e terminal equipment with DTMF-dialling which is intended to be connected to the analogue PSTN (P ublic Switched T elephone Network). CTR 21 (Common T echnical Regulation) for the attachment requirements f or connection to the analogue public switched telephone networks of terminal equipment (ex cluding terminal equipment supporting the voice telephony justiï¬Âed case service) in which network addressing , if provided , is by means of dual tone multifrequency signalling. ASUS Eee PC A-7 Network C ompatibility D eclar ation Statement t o be made by the manufacturer to the user: â This declaration will indicate the netw orks with which the equipment is designed to work and an y notiï¬Âed networks with which the equipment may ha ve inter-w orking difï¬Âculties. T he manufacturer shall also associate a statemen t to make it clear where network compatibility is dependent on physical and software switch settings . It will also advise the user to contact the vendor if it is desired to use the equipment on another network.â Up to now the Notiï¬Âed Body of CETEC OM issued several pan- European appro vals using CTR 21. The results are Eur opeâ s ï¬Ârst modems which do not require regulat or y appro vals in each individual European country . Non-V oice Equipment Answering machines and loud-speaking telephones can be eligible as well as modems , fax machines, auto-dialers and alarm systems. Equipment in which the end-to-end quality of speech is controlled by regulations (e .g. handset telephones and in some c ountries also cordless telephones) is ex cluded.

A-22 Appendix GNU GENERAL PUBLIC LICENSE V ersion 2, June 1991 Copyright (C) 1989, 1991 F ree Software F oundation, Inc., 51 F ranklin Street, Fifth F loor , Boston, MA 02110-1301 USA Everyone is permitted to cop y and distribute verbatim copies of this license document, but changing it is not allowed . Preamble The licenses f or most software are designed to take away y our freedom to share and change it. By contr ast, the GNU General Public License is intended to guar antee your fr eedom to share and change free software--to make sure the software is free for all its users .
