ASUS T ablet E-Manual 8 Safety Precautions Charging y our batteries Ensure to fully charge y our battery pack before using your ASUS T ablet in battery mode for extended periods. Remember that the pow er adapter charges the battery pack as long as it is plugged into an AC pow er source. Be aw are that it takes much longer to charge the battery pack when the ASUS T ablet is in use. IMPORT ANT! Do not leave the ASUS T ablet connected to the po wer supply once it is fully charged. ASUS T ablet is not designed to be left connected to the power supply for extended periods of time. Using y our ASUS T ablet This ASUS T ablet should only be used in enviroments with ambient t emperatures between 0°C (32°F) and 35°C (95°F). Long time exposur e to extremely high or low temperatur e may quickly deplete and shorten the batter y life. T o ensure the batt er y â s optimal per formance, ensure that it is exposed within the recommended en vironment tempera ture. Airplane Pr ecautions Contact your airline provider t o learn about related inîight services that can be used and restrictions that m ust be follow ed when using your AS US T ab let in-îight. IMPORT ANT! Y ou can send your ASUS T ablet through x-ra y machines (used on items placed on conv eyor belts), but do not expose them from magnetic det ectors and wands.

ASUS T ablet E-Manual 12 Audio speak ers The built-in audio speakers allow y ou to hear audios straight from y our ASUS T ablet. Audio features ar e software controlled. K00E 13 Fr ont camera This built-in fron t camera allows you to take pictures or r ecord videos using your ASUS T ablet. Pro ximity sensor The pro ximity sensor detects the distance between you and your ASUS T ablet. When y ou use your ASUS T ablet to make or receive a call , it automatically disables the touch function and switches oî the backlight. Ambient light sensor The ambient light sensor detects the amount of light in y our environment. It allows the system to automa tically adjust the brightness of the display depending on the ambient light condition.
ASUS T ablet E-Manual 14 Rear view MicroSD card slot The ASUS T ablet comes with a built-in memor y card reader slot tha t supports microSD, micr oSDHC and microSD XC car d formats.
K00E 15 V olume button The volume button allo ws you to incr ease or decrease the volume level of your ASUS T ablet. In addition, you can also do any of the f ollowing using the volume button: q Pr ess and hold the volume down button to activate V ibrate Mode. q Pr ess and hold the volume up button to show and adjust the music , message alert, and time alar m volumes . q When in Vibr ate mode, press the v olume down button once to switch to Silent Mode. Po wer button Pr ess the power button f or about two (2) seconds to turn your ASUS T ablet on or wake it up from standby mode . T o turn your ASUS T ablet oî , pr ess the power button f or about (2) seconds and when prompted , tap Pow er Oî then tap OK . T o lock your ASUS T ablet or put it to standby mode, press and quickly release the pow er button. In the event that your ASUS T ablet becomes unresponsiv e, press and hold the power button f or about four (4) seconds to f orce it to shut do wn. IMPORT ANT! ⢠When your ASUS T ablet is inac tive for îfteen (15) seconds , it will automatically go to standby mode . ⢠F orcing the system to restart may result to da ta loss. W e strongly recommend that y ou back up your data regularly . Rear camera This built-in rear camer a allows you to take high-deînition pictures or recor d high- deînition videos using your ASUS T ablet.
ASUS T ablet E-Manual 16 Speaker/Headset port This port allows you to connect your ASUS T ablet to ampliîed speakers or a headset. IMPORT ANT! This por t does not suppor t an external microphone. Micro SIM card slot The ASUS T ablet comes with a built-in micro SIM (Subscriber Identity Module) card slot that supports GSM and WCDM A network bands. NO TE: Refer to section Installing a micro SIM card for more details . Microphone The built-in microphone can be used f or video confer encing, voice narrations or simple audio recor dings. Micro USB 2.0 port Use the micro USB (Univ ersal Serial Bus) 2.0 por t to charge the battery pack or supply power to y our ASUS T ablet. T his por t also allows you t o transfer data fr om your computer to y our ASUS T ablet and vice -versa. NO TE: When you connect your ASUS T ablet to the USB por t on your computer , y our ASUS T ablet will be charged only when it is in sleep mode (screen oî ) or turned oî .

ASUS T ablet E-Manual 18 Setting up your ASUS Tablet Installing a micro SIM card Before y ou can make calls, send text messages, or connect to a mobile broadband network using your ASUS T ablet, you need to install a micro SIM (Subscriber Identity Module) card. T o install a micro SIM card: 1. Inser t the tip of the bundled micro SIM card tra y eject pin to ejec t the micro SIM card tray . 2. Pull out the micr o SIM card tray and place the micr o SIM card on the tray with the metal contacts facing up. Metal contacts

ASUS T ablet E-Manual 20 Charging y our ASUS T ablet Charge your ASUS T ablet for eight (8) hours bef ore using it in battery mode for the îrst time . Connect the micro USB cable to the pow er adapter . Plug the micro USB connector into y our ASUS T ablet. Plug the power adapt er into a grounded pow er outlet. T o charge your ASUS T ablet:
K00E 21 NO TES: ⢠Y our ASUS T ablet can be charged via the USB port on the computer only when it is in sleep mode (screen oî ) or turned oî . ⢠Charging through y our computerâ s USB port may take a longer time to complete. ⢠If your computer does not pro vide enough power for charg ing your ASUS T ablet, charge your ASUS T ablet via the grounded power outlet instead . IMPORT ANT! ⢠Use only the bundled power adapt er and micro USB cable to charge your ASUS T ablet. U sing a diîerent pow er adapter may damage your ASUS T ablet. ⢠Peel the pr otective îlm oî from the power adapt er and micro USB cable before charging the ASUS T ablet to prevent risk or injury. ⢠Ensure that you plug the po wer adapter to the correct power outlet with the correct input rating. T he output voltage of this adapter is DC 5.2V , 1.35A. ⢠Do not leave the ASUS T ablet connected to the power supply once it is fully charged. ASUS T ablet is not designed to be left connected to the power supply for extended periods of time. ⢠When using your ASUS T ablet while plugged-in to a power outlet, the grounded power outlet must be near to the unit and easily ac cessible. ⢠Do not place objects on top of your ASUS T ablet .

K00E 23 Gestures for the ASUS Tablet Using the touch screen panel , the following gestur es can be done to navigate, interact with, and launch the exclusiv e features included with y our ASUS T ablet. q T o move an app , tap and hold the app and drag it to a new location. q T o delete an app from the main screen, tap and hold the app and drag it up to the top side of the screen. q T o capture a screen image, tap and hold . NO TE: T o enable this setting , go to Settings > ASUS Customiz ed Setting then tick Capture screenshots b y holding the Recent Apps K ey . Drag/T ap and hold/Long press

ASUS T ablet E-Manual 30 Starting up for the î¿rst time When you turn on your ASUS T ablet for the îrst time , a series of steps appear to guide you in conîguring the basic settings of your Andr oid⢠operating system. T o star t your ASUS T ablet for the îrst time: 1. T urn your ASUS T ablet on. 2. Choose a language, then tap . 3. Select an input method or keyboard format, then tap . 3. Select a t ype of network (mobile carrier and Wi-F i or Wi-F i only) to connect to the Internet, then tap . 4. F rom the list of available W i-Fi networks, tap a network name then tap . T o sk ip connecting to a network, tap . NO TE: Some W i-Fi networks may pr ompt you to key in a passcode. 5. Select the t ype of data synchronization, then tap . 6. F ollow the onscreen instructions to conîgure the f ollowing items: q Google Account q Google location and ser vices 7. Set the local date and time, then tap . 8. T ap or to enter Home scr een. 9. On the Home Screen, tap OK to start navigating your ASUS T ablet.

ASUS T ablet E-Manual 36 Screen views The built-in gra vity-sensor of your ASUS T ablet enables automatic screen rotations depending on how you hold it. Y ou can quickly switch between a landscape or portrait view by steering your ASUS T ablet to the left or to the right. Landscape view P or trait view
K00E 37 Locking the screen orienta tion By default, your ASUS T ablet screen automatically changes its orientation from portrait mode to landscape mode or vice -versa, depending on the way y ou hold your device . Y ou can disable the auto-rotate screen function by following these st eps: 1. T ap on the Home Screen to open All Apps scr een. 2. T ap Settings > Ac cessibility then tap Auto-rotate scr een to deselect. NO TE: Y ou can also enable or disable this function from the ASUS Quick Settings. Refer to section Settings for more details.
ASUS T ablet E-Manual 38 Using the call features Making calls T o make a call: 1. T ap Phone on the Home Screen. 2. T ap the keys to key in the number you wish to call. 3. T ap to dial. 4. T ap to end the call. Setting up your c ontacts T o set up your contacts, you can do an y of the following: q F rom the Home Screen, tap People > then select Create a new c ontact . F ollow the screen instructions to add a new contact. q Impor t your contacts from your micr o SIM card into y our ASUS T ablet. T o import your contacts from your micro SIM card: 1. Install the micro SIM card into y our ASUS T ablet . 2. F rom the Home Screen, tap People to launch the P eople app. 3. T ap then tap > Manage contacts. 4. T ap Impor t/export > Impor t from SIM card then tap to select the contacts that you wish to import to your ASUS T ablet. 5. When done, tap .
K00E 39 Connecting to the world C onnec ting to mobile networks After installing the SIM card, y ou are ready to use y our ASUS T ablet to make/ receiv e calls or transmit/receive data. Diî erent countries or r egions may hav e diîeren t mobile networks available and you may ha ve to conîgure y our ASUS T ablet to access these networks. T o conîgure your mobile networks setting: 1. Do any of the follo wing to go to the Settings screen: qî T ap to go to the All Apps scr een then tap Settings . q Swipe your înger do wn from the top of the screen t o go to ASUS Quick Settings then tap . 2. F rom the Settings screen, tap More... then tap Mobile netw orks . NO TE: Refer to section Settings for more details about ASUS Quick Settings. IMPORT ANT! I f your ASUS T ablet does not connec t to a network, contact your mobile network carrier for assistance. C onnec ting to W i-F i networ ks Wi-F i wireless networking technology allows you t o exchange data wir elessly over a network.T o use W i-Fi, enable the W i-F i feature in y our ASUS T ablet and c onnect to a wireless network. Some wireless networks are secured with a key or pr otected with digital certiîcates and requires additional steps t o set up; others are open and you can easily connect to them. NO TE: T urn W i-Fi oî when y ou are not using it to help save ba tter y power . T o enable W i-F i and connect to a W i-F i network: 1. T ap to go to the All Apps scr een then tap Settings . 2. Slide the Wi-F i switch to ON. When enabled , your ASUS T ablet scans for available W i-Fi networks.
ASUS T ablet E-Manual 40 Using Bluet ooth Enabling or disabling Bluetooth in your de vice Bluetooth is a wireless standar d used for exchang ing data over short distances. Bluetooth exists in many pr oducts, such as smar tphones, computers , tablet devices, and headsets . Bluetooth is very useful when transferring data between two or more devices tha t are near each other . The îrst time you connect to a Bluetooth devic e, you must pair it with your ASUS T ablet. NO TE: T urn Bluetooth oî when you are not using it to help sav e battery power . T o enable or disable Bluetooth in your ASUS T ablet, you can do any of the following: q T ap to go to the All Apps scr een then tap Settings . Slide the Bluetooth switch to ON q Slide down the Notiîcation area t o display ASUS Quick Settings panel then tap . 3. T ap a net work name to connect to it. If the network is secured or prot ected, you are pr ompted to key in a passwor d or key in other credentials. NO TE: If your ASUS T ablet înds a network that you ha ve connected to previously , it automatically connects to it.
K00E 41 Pairing y our ASUS T ablet with a Bluetooth device Before y ou can connect to a Bluetooth device, y ou must îrst pair your ASUS T ablet to that device . The devices stay pair ed, unless you remo ve the paired connection between them. T o pair your ASUS T ablet to a device: 1. T ap to go to the All Apps scr een then tap Settings . Slide the Bluetooth switch to ON. 2. T ap Bluetooth to display all av ailable Bluetooth devices within range. NO TES: ⢠If the device you want to pair with is not in the list, ensur e that its Bluetooth feature is turned ON and set as Disc overable. ⢠See the technical documentation that came with the device to learn how t o turn its Bluetooth ON and how to set it to disc overable. 3. If your ASUS T ablet has înished scanning before your Bluetooth devic e is ready , tap SEARCH FOR DEVICES. 4. In the list of available devices, tap the Bluet ooth device that you want to pair with. F ollow the succeeding screen instructions to complet e the pairing. If necessary, r efer to the technical documenta tion that came with the device. Connecting your ASUS T ablet to a Bluetooth device After you hav e paired your ASUS T ablet to a Bluetooth device, y ou can easily reconnect to it manually , after it is back in range. T o connect to a Bluetooth device: 1. T ap to go to the All Apps scr een then tap Settings . Slide the Bluetooth switch to ON. 2. In the list of P AIRED DEVICES, tap the name of the paired device.
ASUS T ablet E-Manual 42 Unpairing and conîguring a Bluetooth devic e T o unpair or conîgure a Bluetooth device: 1. T ap to go to the All Apps scr een then tap Settings . Slide the Bluetooth switch to ON. 2. T ap Bluetooth then tap beside the connected Bluetooth device that y ou want to unpair or conîgur e. 3. F rom P aired Bluetooth device screen, y ou can do any of the follo wing: q T ap Unpair to unpair the device. q T ap Rename to rename the Bluetooth device. q T ap any of the listed proîles t o enable or disable a proîle. 4. Remember that the pow er adapter charges the battery pack as long as it is plugged into an AC pow er source. Be aw are that it takes much longer to charge the battery pack when the ASUS T ablet is in use. IMPORT ANT! Do not leave the ASUS T ablet connected to the po wer supply once it is fully charged. ASUS T ablet is not designed to be left connected to the power supply for extended periods of time. Using y our ASUS T ablet This ASUS T ablet should only be used in enviroments with ambient t emperatures between 0°C (32°F) and 35°C (95°F). Long time exposur e to extremely high or low temperatur e may quickly deplete and shorten the batter y life. T o ensure the batt er y â s optimal per formance, ensure that it is exposed within the recommended en vironment tempera ture. Pro ximity sensor The pro ximity sensor detects the distance between you and your ASUS T ablet. When y ou use your ASUS T ablet to make or receive a call , it automatically disables the touch function and switches oî the backlight. Ambient light sensor The ambient light sensor detects the amount of light in y our environment. It allows the system to automa tically adjust the brightness of the display depending on the ambient light condition.

In addition, you can also do any of the f ollowing using the volume button: q Pr ess and hold the volume down button to activate V ibrate Mode. q Pr ess and hold the volume up button to show and adjust the music , message alert, and time alar m volumes . q When in Vibr ate mode, press the v olume down button once to switch to Silent Mode. Po wer button Pr ess the power button f or about two (2) seconds to turn your ASUS T ablet on or wake it up from standby mode . T o turn your ASUS T ablet oî , pr ess the power button f or about (2) seconds and when prompted , tap Pow er Oî then tap OK . T o lock your ASUS T ablet or put it to standby mode, press and quickly release the pow er button. In the event that your ASUS T ablet becomes unresponsiv e, press and hold the power button f or about four (4) seconds to f orce it to shut do wn. IMPORT ANT! ⢠When your ASUS T ablet is inac tive for îfteen (15) seconds , it will automatically go to standby mode . ⢠F orcing the system to restart may result to da ta loss. W e strongly recommend that y ou back up your data regularly .
