10 Care and safety Guidelines Road safety comes rst. W e strongly rec ommend not to use your device when driving or oper ating any type of vehicle. This device should only be used in en vironments with ambient t emperatures between 5°C (41°F) and 35°C (95°F). T urn o your device in restricted areas wher e the use of mobile devices is prohibited . Always obey rules and regulations when in restricted areas , such as, in aircraft, movie theater , in hospitals or near medical equipment, near gas or fuel, construction sites , blasting sites and other areas . Use only AC adapt ers and cables approv ed by ASUS for use with this device. Refer t o the rating label on the bottom of your device and ensur e that your power adapter complies with this r ating. Do not use damaged power cables, ac cessories, and other peripherals with your device. Keep your device dry . D o not use or expose your device near liquids , rain, or moisture. Y ou can put your device through x -ray machines (such as those used in convey or belts for airpor t security), but do not expose the device to magnetic detectors and wands. The device screen is made of glass . I f the glass gets broken, stop using the device and do not t ouch the broken glass parts. 16 Installing a micro-SIM card A micro-subscriber identity module (micro-SIM) card stores information, such as y our mobile phone number , contacts, messages, and other da ta that gives y ou access to a mobile network. 26 Charging your device Y our device comes partially charged but you must charge it fully bef ore using it for the rst time. Read the following important notices and cautions befor e charging your device . T ap to go to the All apps screen then tap Settings. 2. T ap ASUS customized settings > P adFone Settings > PadF one Charging P olic y

PadF one Charging Modes Intelligent Mode (Default/Recommended) •  Whenthephone ’ sbatter yisgreaterthan90%,theP adF oneStationwillnotchargethephone. •  Insuspendmode,theP adFoneStationwillchar gethephonewhenthefollowingconditionsaremet: 1. If the phone’ s batt er y is less than 70%. 2. If the phone’ s batt er y is less than 90% of the P adFone Station ’ s cur rent charge . •  WhenthephoneisinsertedintotheP adF oneStationandreachesachargelow erthan15%,thePadF one Station will charge the phone until the ba ttery is at 20%. IMPORT ANT : Th e PadF one Station will stop charging the phone ’ s batter y when it reaches 90% or the charge is higher than the P adF one Station’ s current char ge. 28 T o charge y our device: 1. Connect the micro USB cable to the A C power adapter . 2. Plug the AC po wer adapter to a grounded po wer outlet. 3. Connect the micro USB cable to y our phone or your P adFone Station sepera tely , or to the P adFone Sta tion with the phone inser ted. IMPORT ANT! • Chargeyourdevicef oreight(8)hoursbeforeusingitin battery mode for the rst time. • Thestatusofbatterychargeisindicatedbythef ollowing icons: Low Not Charging Charging F ull  4. When fully-charged, disconnect the USB cable from your devic e rst before unplugging the A C power adapter from the po wer outlet. 29 Inserting/removing your phone into/from your tablet CA UTION! Do not add a protective lm or cov er to your phone as it may be dicult to insert/remove the phone to/from the tablet. NO TE: Always keep the tablet's phone ba y clean to prevent dust or dirt from scratching or damaging your phone . T o insert your phone into y our tablet: 1. Align your phone in to the phone bay sliding track with its microUSB port facing toward the phone bay . 2. Inser t your phone all the way into the ba y until it is securely connected to the tablet. Y our phone briey vibrates when the connection is secured. Once securely c onnected, apps’ screens automatically adjust to work in a tablet en vironment. T o remo ve your phone from y our tablet: Remove y our phone out from your tablet .
30 Turning your device on or off T urning your device on T o turn your device on, press and hold the po wer button until your device vibr ates and starts up. NO TE: Y our tablet automatically turns on once you insert your phone that is already active. W ARNING! If you forgot y our personal screen unlock pattern or no data connection is available, y ou will have to reset your devic e. Resetting your devic e will result in data loss . T urning your device o T o turn your device o: 1. If your screen is turned o , press the power butt on to turn it on. If your screen is locked , unlock the device screen. 2. Pr ess and hold the power button, then when prompted , tap Pow er o then tap OK . Sleep mode T o put your device in sleep mode , press the power button once un til the screen turns o .
31 First time use When you turn your devic e on for the rst time, Setup Wizard will guide y ou through the setup proc ess. Follo w the on-screen instructions to select your language, select input methods, setup your mobile network and Wi- F i, sync accounts, and congure y our location ser vices. Use your Google or ASUS acc ount to setup your devic e, if you do not have a Google or ASUS acc ount yet, go ahead and create one . Google Acc ount Using a Google Acc ount allows y ou to fully utilize these Android OS fea tures:  • Organizeandseeally ourinformationfr omanywhere .  • Automa ticallybackupallyourdata.  • Lev erageGoogleser vicescon venientlyfr omanywhere . 32 Battery power c onser vation tips The battery charge is the lifeline of y our device. Her e are some batter y power conservation tips that helps preserve the power of y our device battery . – When not in use, press the po wer button to put the device in sleep mode. – Activate Smart saving in Pow er Saver app . – Set audio to Po wer saving mode . – Decrease brightness of display . – Keep the speaker volume to a low lev el. – Disable Wi-F i feature. – Disable Bluetooth featur e. – Disable GPS. – Disable the screen auto-rotate f eature. – Disable all auto-sync features in your devic e.
33 Using your device Phone mode Use your phone to enjo y the latest features and t echnologies of Android 4.4.2 oper ating system. Select any of these modes: • Ultra-saving mode: Disconnects the network connection when your P adFone is idle to fully maximize its battery life. • Optimized mode: Ex tends the battery life while your P adFone sta ys connected to your network. • Customized mode: Allo ws you to set up the power settings f or your frequent activities, and C ustomizing Po wer Sav er Set the brightness level for y our frequent activities such as reading emails or books, watching videos , browsing websites , and listening to music. Y ou can also enable the pow er saving function for some apps or enable the auto- disconnection of your network when your P adFone is asleep . T o customize P ower Sav er: 1. F rom Po wer Saver , tick C ustomized mode , then tap . 2. Tick an activity , then set the br ightness level in per centage . 3. If you want to enable the auto-disconnection of your network , tick IM and other apps using push notication .
