This incoming por t closes once a specic time period has elapsed because the router is unsur e when the application has been terminated . • P or t trigger ing only allows one clien t in the net work to use a par ticular ser vice and a specic incoming por t at the same time. • Y ou cannot use the same application to trigger a port in more than one PC at the same time. The router will only f or ward the por t back to the last comput er to send the router a request/trigger . • • • •
4.3.3 V ir tual Ser ver/P or t F or warding P or t for warding is a method t o direc t network trac from the Internet to a specic por t or a specic range of por ts to a device or number of devices on y our local net work. S etting up P or t F or warding on y our router allow s PCs outside the net work to access specic services provided b y a PC in your network . NO TE: When por t forwarding is enabled, the ASUS r outer blocks unsolicited inbound trac fr om the I nternet and only allow s replies from outbound r equests from the LAN. The net work client does not hav e access to the Internet directly , and vice v ersa. T o set up Port F or warding: 1. F rom the naviga tion panel, go to A dvanced Settings > W AN > V ir tual Ser ver / P or t F or warding tab .
2. Congur e the following settings belo w . When done , click Apply . Enable P or t F or warding : Choose Y es to enable P or t F or warding . F amous S er v er List : D etermine which type of ser vice you want to ac cess. F amous G ame List : This item lists por ts requir ed for popular online games to w or k correctly . FTP Ser ver P or t : A void assigning the por t range 20:21 f or your FTP server as this would conict with the router ’ s nativ e FTP ser ver assignment . Ser vice Name: Enter a service name. P or t R ange : If you want to specify a P or t R ange for clients on the same network , enter the Ser vice Name , the Port Range (e.g. 10200:10300), the LAN IP addr ess, and leav e the Local P or t empty . P or t range accepts various f ormats such as P or t R ange (300:350), individual por ts (566,789) or M ix (1015:1024,3021). NO TES: • When your network’ s rewall is disabled and you set 80 as the HT TP ser ver ’ s por t range for y our W AN setup , then your http ser ver/web ser ver would be in c onic t with the router ’ s web user int er face. • A network makes use of por ts in order to ex change data, with each por t assig ned a port number and a sp ecic task. F or example , por t 80 is used for HT TP . A specic por t can only be used by one application or ser vice at a time . Hence, two PCs attempting t o access data through the same port at the same time would fail. F or example, you cannot set up P or t F or warding f or por t 100 for two PCs at the same time. • • • • • •
Local IP: Key in the client’ s LAN IP address. NO TE : Use a static IP address f or the local client to make por t forwarding work properly . Refer to section 4.2 LAN for inf or mation. Local P or t : Enter a specic por t to rec eive forwarded packets. Lea ve this eld blank if you wan t the incoming packets to be redir ec ted to the specied por t range . Pr otocol : Selec t the protoc ol. If you are unsur e, select BO TH . T o check if Port F or warding has been congur ed successfully: Ensure that y our ser ver or application is set up and running . Y ou will need a client outside your LAN but has Internet access (r eferred t o as “Internet client ”). This client should not be connected to the ASUS rout er . On the Internet client, use the rout er ’ s W AN IP to access the ser ver . I f por t for warding has been suc cessful, y ou should be able to acc ess the les or applications. Dierenc es between por t trigger and por t for war ding: P or t trigger ing will work ev en without setting up a specic LAN IP address . Unlike por t for warding , which requires a static LAN IP address , por t trigger ing allows dynamic port forwarding using the rout er . Pr edetermined por t ranges are congur ed to accept incoming connections for a limit ed period of time. P or t triggering allows multiple computers to run applications that w ould normally require manually forwarding the same por ts to each PC on the network. P or t trigger ing is more secur e than por t for warding since the incoming por ts are not open all the time . They ar e opened only when an application is making an outgoing connection through the trigger por t. • • • • • • • •
4.3.4 DMZ V ir tual DMZ exposes one client to the Internet, allowing this client to r eceive all inbound packets directed to y our Local Ar ea Network . Inbound trac from the Internet is usually discarded and r outed to a specic client only if port for warding or a por t trigger has been congur ed on the net work. I n a DMZ conguration, one network client rec eives all inbound packets. Setting up DMZ on a network is useful when you need incoming por ts open or you want t o host a domain, web , or e -mail ser ver . 117 Ev er yone is permitted to c opy and distribute verbatim copies of this license document, but chang ing it is not allowed. Pr eamble The licenses f or most soft ware ar e designed to take awa y your freedom t o share and change it. By contrast, the GNU General Public Lic ense is intended to guarant ee your freedom t o share and change free software --to make sure the software is free f or all its users. This General Public License applies t o most of the F ree Sof tware F oundation ’ s soft ware and t o any other prog ram whose authors commit to using it. (Some other F ree Sof tware F oundation soft ware is c overed b y the GNU Librar y General Public License instead .) Y ou can apply it to your prog rams, too . When we speak of fr ee sof tware , we are r eferring to freedom, not price. Our General P ublic Licenses are desig ned to make sure that you ha ve the freedom to distribute c opies of free soft ware (and charge f or this ser vice if you wish), that you r eceive sour ce code or can get it if you wan t it, that you can change the software or use pieces of it in new fr ee programs; and that y ou k now you can do these things. T o prot ec t your rights , we need to make restrictions that forbid any one to deny y ou these rights or to ask you to surr ender the rights. These restrictions translate to certain responsibilities for you if y ou distribute copies of the soft ware , or if you modify it. F or example, if y ou distribute copies of such a prog ram, whether gratis or f or a fee , you must giv e the recipients all the rights that you ha ve. Y ou must make sure that they , too , receive or can get the sourc e code. And y ou must show them these terms so they k now their rights .
W e prot ec t your rights with two steps: (1) c opyright the sof tware , and (2) oer y ou this license which gives y ou legal permission to copy , distr ibute and/or modify the software. Also , for each author ’ s prot ec tion and ours, w e want to make cer tain that everyone understands that there is no w ar ranty for this free software . I f the sof tware is modied by someone else and passed on, we wan t its recipients to know that what they hav e is not the original, so tha t any problems intr oduced by others will not reect on the original authors ’ r eputations. F inally , any free pr ogram is threat ened constantly by software patents . W e wish to a void the danger that redistributors of a fr ee prog ram will individually obtain patent licenses , in eect mak ing the prog ram proprietar y . T o prev ent this, we ha ve made it clear that an y patent must be licensed f or ever yone ’ s free use or not licensed at all . The pr ecise terms and conditions for cop ying, distribution and modication f ollow . T erms & conditions for c opying , distribution, & modific ation 0. This License applies t o any prog ram or other work which contains a notic e placed by the copyright holder sa ying it may be distributed under the terms of this General P ublic License. The “Pr ogram ” , below , refers t o any such prog ram or work, and a “work based on the Pr ogram ” means either the P rogram or any deriva tive work under copyright la w : that is to say , a work containing the P rogr am or a por tion of it, either verbatim or with modications and/or translat ed into another language. (Hereinafter , translation is included without limitation in the term “ modication ” .) Each licensee is addr essed as “you ” . Activities other than copying , distribution and modication are not cov ered by this License; they ar e outside its scope. The ac t
of running the P rogram is not r estr icted, and the output from the P rogram is co vered only if its con tents constitute a w ork based on the P rogram (independent of ha ving been made by running the P rogram). Whether that is true depends on what the P rogram does . 1. Y ou may c opy and distribute verbatim copies of the P rogr am ’ s sourc e code as you rec eive it, in any medium, pr ovided that you c onspicuously and appropriately publish on each copy an appropriat e copyright notice and disclaimer of warranty ; keep intact all the notices that ref er to this License and to the absence of an y warranty ; and give an y other recipients of the P rogram a cop y of this License along with the Pr ogram. Y ou may charge a fee f or the phy sical ac t of transferring a copy , and you may at y our option oer warranty prot ec tion in ex change for a fee . 2. Y ou may modify your cop y or copies of the Pr ogram or any por tion of it, thus forming a w or k based on the P rogram, and copy and distribute such modica tions or work under the terms of Sec tion 1 abov e, pro vided that you also meet all of these conditions: a) Y ou must cause the modied les to carr y prominent notices stating that you changed the les and the da te of any change. b) Y ou must cause any w ork that you distribute or publish, that in whole or in par t contains or is derived fr om the Pr ogram or any part thereof , to be licensed as a whole a t no charge to all third parties under the terms of this License. c) If the modied program normally r eads commands interactively when run, y ou must cause it, when star ted running for such in teractive use in the most ordinar y way , to print or display an announcemen t including an appropriate copyright notic e and a notice that there is no warran t y (or else, sa ying that you pro vide a warranty) and that users may redistribute
the prog ram under these conditions, and telling the user ho w to view a cop y of this License. (Ex ception: if the Pr ogram itself is interactive but does not normally print such an announcemen t, your w ork based on the Prog ram is not required t o pr int an announcement.) These r equirements apply to the modied w or k as a whole. If identiable sec tions of that work ar e not derived from the P rogram, and can be r easonably considered independent and separate w orks in themselves, then this Lic ense, and its terms, do not apply to those sections when you distribute them as separate w orks. But when you distribute the same sections as par t of a whole which is a work based on the P rogram, the distribution of the whole must be on the terms of this License , whose permissions for other licensees e x tend to the entir e whole, and thus t o each and ever y par t regardless of who wrot e it. Thus , it is not the intent of this section to claim rights or contest your rights t o work written entirely by y ou; rather , the intent is to ex ercise the right to con trol the distribution of derivative or collective works based on the P rogram. In addition, mere aggr egation of another work not based on the P rogram with the P rogram (or with a w ork based on the P rogram) on a v olume of a storage or distribution medium does not bring the other work under the scope of this License . 3. Y ou may copy and distribute the P rogram (or a w ork based on it, under Sec tion 2) in object code or executable f orm under the terms of Sec tions 1 and 2 abov e provided that y ou also do one of the follo wing: a) A ccompan y it with the complete corresponding machine - readable sour ce code, which must be distributed under the terms of Sec tions 1 and 2 abov e on a medium customarily used for software int erchange; or , b) Accompan y it with a written oer , valid f or at least three years , to give an y third par ty , for a char ge no more than your
cost of ph ysically per forming sour ce distribution, a complete machine -readable copy of the c orresponding source c ode, to be distributed under the terms of Sections 1 and 2 above on a medium customarily used for software int erchange; or , c) Acc ompany it with the information y ou receiv ed as to the oer to distribute corr esponding source code . ( This alternativ e is allow ed only for noncommercial distribution and only if y ou rec eived the progr am in objec t code or ex ecutable form with such an oer , in accor d with Subsec tion b above .) The sour ce code for a w ork means the preferr ed form of the work f or mak ing modications to it. F or an executable work, complete sourc e code means all the source c ode for all modules it contains , plus any associated in ter face denition les, plus the scripts used to c ontrol compilation and installation of the ex ecutable. How ever , as a special exception, the sourc e code distributed need not include anything that is normally distributed (in either source or binary form) with the major components (c ompiler , kernel, and so on) of the operating syst em on which the executable runs , unless that component itself ac companies the executable . If distribution of executable or object code is made by oering acc ess to copy fr om a designated place , then oering equivalent acc ess to copy the sour ce code from the same plac e counts as distribution of the sour ce code, ev en though third par ties are not compelled t o copy the source along with the object code. 4. Y ou may not copy , modify , sublicense, or distribute the P rogram ex cept as expressly pr ovided under this License . Any attempt otherwise to copy , modify , sublicense or distribute the P rogram is v oid, and will automatically terminat e your rights under this License . However , par ties who have r eceived copies , or r ights , from you under this License will not ha ve their licenses terminat ed so long as such par ties remain in full compliance . 5. Y ou are not required t o accept this License , since you hav e not signed it. Ho wever , nothing else grants y ou per mission to modify or distribute the P rogram or its derivativ e works. These actions are prohibited b y law if you do not acc ept this License.
Ther efore , by modifying or distributing the Pr ogram (or any work based on the P rogram), y ou indicate your ac ceptance of this License to do so , and all its terms and conditions for copying , distributing or modifying the Pr ogram or works based on it. 6. Each time you r edistribute the Pr ogram (or any w ork based on the P rogram), the r ecipient automatically rec eives a license from the original lic ensor to copy , distribute or modify the P rogram subject to these terms and conditions . Y ou may not impose any further restric tions on the recipients ’ exer cise of the rights grant ed herein. Y ou ar e not responsible for enf orcing compliance b y third par ties to this License . 7. If , as a consequence of a court judgment or allegation of patent infringement or for an y other reason (not limited t o patent issues), conditions ar e imposed on you (whether by court order , agr eement or other wise) that contr adic t the conditions of this License , they do not excuse you fr om the conditions of this License . I f you cannot distribute so as to sa tisfy simultaneously your obligations under this Lic ense and any other per tinent obligations, then as a c onsequence you may not distribut e the P rogram at all . F or example, if a pat ent license would not permit roy alt y-free r edistribution of the Prog ram by all those who rec eive copies directly or indirectly through you , then the only way y ou could satisfy both it and this License w ould be to refrain en tirely from distribution of the P rogram. If any por tion of this section is held invalid or unenfor ceable under any particular circumstance , the balance of the sec tion is intended t o apply and the sec tion as a whole is intended to apply in other circumstanc es. I t is not the purpose of this section to induce you to infringe any pa tents or other proper ty right claims or to contest validity of any such claims; this section has the sole purpose of prot ec ting the integrity of the free software distribution system, which is implemen ted by public license practices. Many people hav e made generous contributions t o the wide range of software distributed through that sy stem in reliance
on consisten t application of that system; it is up to the author/ donor to decide if he or she is willing to distribute software through an y other system and a licensee cannot impose that choice . This section is intended to make thor oughly clear what is believed t o be a consequence of the rest of this License . 8. If the distribution and/or use of the Prog ram is restricted in cer tain countries either by patents or by copyright ed inter faces, the original copyright holder who plac es the Pr ogram under this License may add an e xplicit geographical distribution limitation ex cluding those countries, so that distribution is permitted only in or among countries not thus ex cluded. In such case, this Lic ense incorporates the limitation as if written in the body of this License . 9. The F ree Software F oundation may publish r evised and/or new versions of the General P ublic License from time t o time. Such new versions will be similar in spirit to the pr esent version, but may di er in detail to address new pr oblems or concerns. Each version is g iven a distinguishing version number . I f the P rogram species a v ersion number of this License which applies to it and “ an y later version ” , you hav e the option of follo wing the terms and conditions either of that version or of any la ter version published by the F ree Sof tware F oundation. If the P rogram does not specify a v ersion number of this License, you ma y choose any version ev er published by the F ree Sof tware F oundation. 10. If you wish to incorpora te par ts of the Prog ram into other free prog rams whose distribution conditions are dier ent, write to the author to ask f or permission. F or soft ware which is c opyrighted by the F ree Sof tware F oundation, write to the F ree Sof tware F oundation; we sometimes make ex ceptions for this . Our decision will be guided by the two goals of pr eser ving the free status of all derivatives of our fr ee sof tware and of pr omoting the shar ing and reuse of software generally .
