v Safety information This symbol of the crossed out wheeled bin indicates that the product (electrical, electronic equipment, and mercury-containing button cell battery) should not be placed in municipal waste. Please check local regulations for disposal of electronic products. • Before setting up the monitor , carefully read all the documentation that came with the package. • T o prevent re or shock hazard, never expose the monitor to rain or moisture. • Never try to open the monitor cabinet. The dangerous high voltages inside the monitor may result in serious physical injury . • If the power supply is broken, do not try to x it by yourself. Contact a qualied service technician or your retailer . • Before using the product, make sure all cables are correctly connected and the power cables are not damaged. If you detect any damage, contact your dealer immediately . • Slots and openings on the back or top of the cabinet are provided for ventilation. Do not block these slots. Never place this product near or over a radiator or heat source unless proper ventilation is provided. • The monitor should be operated only from the type of power source indicated on the label. If you are not sure of the type of power supply to your home, consult your dealer or local power company . • Use the appropriate power plug which complies with your local power standard. • Do not overload power strips and extention cords. Overloading can result in re or electric shock. • Avoid dust, humidity , and temperature extremes. Do not place the monitor in any area where it may become wet. Place the monitor on a stable surface. • Unplug the unit during a lightning storm or if it will not be used for a long period of time. This will protect the monitor from damage due to power surges. • Never push objects or spill liquid of any kind into the slots on the monitor cabinet. • T o ensure satisfactory operation, use the monitor only with UL listed computers which have appropriate congured receptacles marked between 100-240V AC. • If you encounter technical problems with the monitor , contact a qualied service technician or your retailer .
vi Care & Cleaning • Before you lift or reposition your monitor , it is better to disconnect the cables and power cord. Follow the correct lifting techniques when positioning the monitor . When lifting or carrying the monitor , grasp the edges of the monitor . Do not lift the display by the stand or the cord. • Cleaning. T urn your monitor off and unplug the power cord. Clean the monitor surface with a lint-free, non-abrasive cloth. Stubborn stains may be removed with a cloth dampened with mild cleaner . • Avoid using a cleaner containing alcohol or acetone. Use a cleaner intended for use with the LCD. Never spray cleaner directly on the screen, as it may drip inside the monitor and cause an electric shock. The following symptoms are normal wi th the monitor: • The screen may icker during the initial use due to the nature of the uorescent light. T urn off the Power Switch and turn it on again to make sure that the icker disappears. • Y ou may nd slightly uneven brightness on the screen depending on the desktop pattern you use. • When the same image is displayed for hours, an afterimage of the previous screen may remain after switching the image. The screen will recover slowly or you can turn off the Power Switch for hours. • When the screen becomes black or ashes, or cannot work anymore, contact your dealer or service center to x it. Button: • Use this hotkey to switch from five video preset modes (Game Mode, Night View Mode, Scenery Mode, Standard Mode, Theater Mode) with SPLENDID™ Video Enhancement T echnology . • Exit the OSD menu or go back to the previous menu as the OSD m enu is active. • Automatically adjust the image to its optimized position, clock, and p hase by pressing this button for 2-4 seconds (for VGA mode only). 2. Button (For those models with speakers): • Press this button to decrease the value of the function selected or move left/down to the next function. • This is also a hotkey for V olume adjustment. MENU Button: • Press this button to enter/select the icon (function) highlighted while th e OSD is activated. 4. Power button/power indicator • Press this button to turn the monitor on/off • The color definition of the power indicator is as the below table. 1. AC-IN port . This port connects the power connector from the bundled power cord. 2. DVI port . This 24-pin port is for PC (Personal Computer) DVI-D digital signal connection. 3. VGA port . This 15-pin port is for PC VGA connection. 4. Audio-in port (For those models with speakers) . This port connects PC audio source by the bundled audio cable. 5. USB 2.0 port. This port is for the built-in webcam connection. 2-1 ASUS VK192 Series LCD Monitor 2.1 Assembling the monitor base T o assemble the monitor base: 1. Have the front of the monitor face down on a table. 2. Connect the base with the arm according to the below drawing. A click shows that the base has been connected successfully . We re c o m m e n d th a t y o u co v e r th e t a b l e su r f a c e wi t h so f t c l o t h to pr e v e n t damage to the monitor . 2.2 Adjusting the monitor • For optimal viewing, we recommend that you look at the full face of the monitor , then adjust the monitor to the angle that is most comfortable for you. • Hold the stand to prevent the monitor from falling when you change its angle. • Y ou can adjust the monitor ’s angle from -5˚ to 20˚. It is normal that the monitor slightly shakes while you adjust the the viewing angle. -5˚�20˚ ˚�20˚ �20˚ ˚
2-2 Chapter 2: Setup AC-IN DVI VGA AUDIO IN USB 2.3 Detaching the arm/base (for VESA wall mount) The detachable arm/base of the VK192 Series LCD monitor is specially designed for VESA wall mount. T o detach the arm/base: 1. Have the front of the monitor face down on a table. 2. Remove the rubbers in the four screw holes (Figure 1). 3. Use a screwdriver to remove the two (2) screws on the arm (Figure 1), then slide out the arm/base to detach it from the monitor (Figure 2). Connect the cables as the following instructions: 2.5 Turning on the monitor Gently press the power button . See page 1-2 for the location of the power button. The power indicator lights up in blue to show that the monitor is ON. When both the VGA and the DVI cables are connected, you can choose either VGA mode or DVI mode from the Input Select item of the OSD functions. 2. Gather all the cables with the cable hook. Cable hook VGA 2.0 • T o connect the power cord : connect one end of the power cord securely to the monitor ’s AC input port, and the other end to a power outlet. • T o connect the USB cable : connect one end of the USB cable (upstream) to the monitor's USB port, and the other end to the computer's USB 2.0 port. • T o connect the VGA/DVI cable : a. Plug the VGA/DVI connector to the LCD monitor’s VGA/DVI port. b. Connect the other end of the VGA/ DVI cable to your computer’s VGA/ DVI port. c. T ighten the two screws to secure the VGA/DVI connector . • T o connect the audio cable (For those models with speakers) : connect one end of the audio cable to the monitor ’s Audio-in port, and the other end to the computer's audio-out port.
2-4 Chapter 2: Setup 2.6 LifeFrame 2 software ASUS VK192 provides the easy-to-use LifeFrame 2 software that can work with the webcam, allowing users to create their own photos or video clips. • LifeFrame 2 only supports Microsoft ® Windows ® Vista / XP Service Pack 2 operating systems. • The LifeFrame 2 software is bundled in the support CD. Installation instructions 1. Close all other applications. 2. Insert the support CD into the optical drive and run the LifeFrame 2 program. 3. Follow the on-screen instructions to complete the installation
3-1 ASUS VK192 Series LCD Monitor 3.1 OSD (On-Screen Display) menu 3.1.1 How to reconfigure 2. Press and to navigate through the functions. Highlight and activate the desired function by pressing the MENU button. If the function selected has a sub- menu, press and again to navigate through the sub-menu functions. Highlight and activate the desired sub-menu function by pressing the MENU button. 3. Press and to change the settings of the selected function. 4. T o exit the OSD menu, press the button. Repeat step 2 and step 3 to adjust any other function. 1. Press the MENU button to activate the OSD menu. 3.1.2 OSD Function Introduction 1. Spendid This function contains ve sub-functions you can select for your preference. Each mode has the Reset selection, allowing you to maintain your setting or return to the preset mode. • Scenery Mode : best choice for scenery photo display with SPLENDID™ Video Intelligence T echnology . • Standard Mode : best choice for document editing with SPLENDID™ Video Intelligence T echnology . • Theater Mode : best choice for movie with SPLENDID™ Video Intelligence T echnology . • Game Mode : best choice for game playing with SPLENDID™ Video Intelligence T echnology . • Night View Mode : best choice for dark-scene game or movie with SPLENDID™ Video Intelligence T echnology . • In the Standard Mode, the Saturation and Sharpness functions are not user-configurable. • In the other modes, the sRGB function is not user-configurable.

Color Select the image color you like from this function. • Color T emp. : contains five color modes including Cool, Normal, W arm, sRGB, and User mode. • Skin T one : contains three color modes including Reddish, Natural, and Y ellowish. In the User mode, colors of R (Red), G (Green), and B (Bluee) are user- configurable; the adjusting range is from 0-100. 2. Image Y ou can adjust brightness, contrast, sharpness, saturation, position (VGA only), ASCR, and focus (VGA only) from this main function. • Brightness : the adjustin g range is from 0 to 100. is a hotkey to activate this function. • Contrast : the adjusting range is from 0 to 100. is a hotkey to activate this function (For those models without speakers). • ASCR : turns on/off the ASCR(ASUS Smart Contrast Ratio) function. • Sharpness : the adjusting range is from 0 to 100. • Saturation : the adjusting range is from 0 to 100. • Position : adjusts the horizontal postition (H-Position) and the vertical position (V -Position) of the image. The adjusting range is from 0 to 100. • Focus : reduces Horizonal-line noise and V ertical-line noise of the image by adjusting (Phase) and (Clock) separately . The adjusting range is from 0 to 100. • Phase adjusts the phase of the pixel clock signal. With a wrong phase adjustment, the screen shows horizontal disturbances. • Clock (pixel frequency) controls the number of pixels scanned by one horizontal sweep. If the frequency is not correct, the screen shows vertical stripes and the image is not proportional.
3-3 ASUS VK192 Series LCD Monitor 4. Input Select In this function, you can select either VGA or DVI input source. 5. System Setup Allow you to adjust the system. • V olume : the adjusting range is from 0 to 100. is a hotkey to activate this function (For those models with speakers.). • OSD Setup : *Adjusts the horizontal postition (H-Position)/ the vertical position (V -Position) of the OSD from 0 to 100. *Adjusts the OSD timeout from 10 to 120. *Enables or disables the DDC/CI function. • Language : there are ten languages for your selection, including English, German, Italian, French, Dutch, Spanish, Russian, T raditional Chinese, Simplified Chinese, and Japanese. • Aspect Control : adjusts the aspect ratio to “Full” or “4:3”. • Information : shows the monitor information. • Reset : “Y es” allows you to restore the default setting.

3-7 ASUS VK192 Series LCD Monitor 3.3 Troubleshooting (FAQ) Problem Possible Solution Power LED is not ON • Press the button to check if the monitor is in the ON mode. • Check if the power cord is properly connected to the monitor and the power outlet. The power LED lights amber and there is no screen image • Check if the monitor and the computer are in the ON mode. • Make sure the signal cable is properly connected the monitor and the computer . • Inspect the signal cable and make sure none of the pins are bent. • Connect the computer with another available monitor to check if the computer is properly working. Screen image is too light or dark • Adjust the Contrast and Brightness settings via OSD. Screen image is not centered or sized properly • Press the button for 2–3 seconds to automatically adjust the image (VGA input only). • Adjust the H-Position or V-Position settings via OSD (VGA input only). Screen image bounces or a wave pattern is present in the image • Make sure the signal cable is properly connected to the monitor and the computer . • Move away electrical devices that may cause electrical interference. Screen image has color defects (white does not look white) • Inspect the signal cable and make sure that none of the pins are bent. • Perform All Reset via OSD. • Adjust the R/G/B color settings or select the Color T emperature via OSD. Screen image is blurry or fuzzy • Press the button for 2–3 seconds to automatically adjust the image (VGA input only). • Adjust the Phase and Clock settings via OSD (VGA input only). No sound or sound is low • Ensure that thse audio cable is properly connected to the monitor and the computer • Adjust the volume settings of both your monitor and computer . • Ensure that the computer sound card driver is properly installed and activated. Webcam is not working • Make sure that you have connected the USB cable securely to both the LCD monitor and your computer . • Make sure that you use the Microsoft ® Windows ® Vista / XP Service Pack 2 operating systems.
