Operation General Operation: ,, Read this operator's manual carefully in its entirety before attempting to assemble this machine. Read, understand, and follow all instructions on the machine and in the manual(s) before operation. Be completely familiar with the controls and the proper use of this machine before operating it. Keep this manual in a safe place for future and regular reference and for ordering replacement parts. ,, This machine is a precision piece of power equipment, not a plaything. Therefore, exercise extreme caution at all times. Your unit has been designed to perform one job: to mow grass. Do not use it for any other purpose. ,, Don't force lawn mower- it will do the job better and safer at the rate for which it was designed. ,, Never allow children under 14 years old to operate this machine. Children 14 years old and over should read and understand the instruc- tions in this manual and should be trained and supervised by a parent. Only responsible individuals who are familiar with these rules of safe operation should be allowed to use this machine. ,, Thoroughly inspect the area where the equipment is to be used. Plan your mowing pattern to avoid discharge of material toward roads, sidewalks, bystanders and the like. Also, avoid discharging material against a wall or obstruction which may cause discharged material to ricochet back toward the operator. ,, To help avoid blade contact or a thrown object injury, stay in operator zone behind handles and keep children, bystanders, helpers and pets at least 75 feet from mower while it is in operation. Stop machine if anyone enters area. ,, Always wear safety glasses or safety goggles during operation and while performing an adjustment or repair to protect your eyes. Thrown objects which ricochet can cause serious injury to the eyes. ,, Wear sturdy, rough-soled work shoes and close-fitting slacks and shirts. Shirts and pants that cover the arms and legs and steel-toed shoes are recommended. Never operate this machine in bare feet, sandals, slippery or light weight (e.g. canvas) shoes. ,, Do not put hands or feet near rotating parts or under cutting deck. Contact with blade can amputate hands and feet. ,, A missing or damaged discharge cover can cause blade contact or thrown object injuries. ,, Many injuries occur as a result of the mower being pulled over the foot during a fall caused by slipping or tripping. Do not hold on to the mower if you are falling; release the handle immediately. ,, Never pull the mower back toward you while you are walking. If you must back the mower away from a wall or obstruction first look down and behind to avoid tripping and then follow these steps: ,, Step backfrom mowerto fully extend your arms. ,, Be sure you are well balanced with sure footing. ,, Pull the mower back slowly, no more than half way toward you. ,, Repeat these steps as needed. ,, Do not operate the mower while under the influence of alcohol or drugs. ,, Stay alert- Watch what you are doing. Use common sense. Do not operate lawn mower when you are tired. 3
• The motor/blade control handle is a safety device. Never attempt to bypass its operation. Doing so makes the safety device inoperative and may result in personal injury through contact with the rotating blade. The motor/blade control handle must operate easily in both directions and automatically return to the disengaged position when released. • Do not charge the mower in rain, or in wet conditions. • Never operate the mower in rain or wet grass. Always be sure of your footing. A slip and fall can cause serious personal injury. If you feel you are losing your footing, release the motor/blade control handle immediately and the blade will stop rotating within three seconds. • Mow only in daylight or good artificial light. Walk, never run. • Stop the blade when crossing gravel drives, walks or roads. • If the equipment should start to vibrate abnormally, stop the motor and check immediately for the cause. Vibration is generally a warning of trouble. • Shut the motor off and wait until the blade comes to a complete stop before removing the grass catcher or unclogging the chute. The cutting blade continues to rotate for a few seconds after the motor is shut off. Never place any part of the body in the blade area until you are sure the blade has stopped rotating. • Never operate mower without proper trailing shield, discharge cover, grass catcher, motor/blade control handle or other safety protective devices in place and working. Never operate mower with damaged safety devices. Failure to do so, can result in personal injury. • Only use parts and accessories made for this machine by manufacturer. Failure to do so can result in personal injury. • If situations occur which are not covered in this manual, use care and good judgment. Contact your Sears Service Center for assistance. Slope Operation: Slopes are a major factor related to slip and fall accidents which can result in severe injury. Operation on slopes requires extra caution. If you feel uneasy on a slope, do not mow it. For your safety, use the slope gauge included as part of this manual to measure slopes before operating this unit on a sloped or hilly area. If the slope is greater than 15 degrees, do not mow it. Do: • Mow across the face of slopes; never up and down. Exercise extreme caution when changing direction on slopes. • Watch for holes, ruts, rocks, hidden objects, or bumps which can cause you to slip or trip. Tall grass can hide obstacles. • Always be sure of your footing. A slip and fall can cause serious personal injury. If you feel you are losing your balance, release the motor/blade control handle immediately, and the blade will stop rotating within three (3) seconds. Do Not: • Do not mow near drop-offs, ditches or embankments, you could lose your footing or balance. • Do not mow slopes greater than 15 degrees as shown on the slope gauge. Service • If the mower's built-in overload protection switch frequently trips, contact your nearest Sears Service Center for repair. • Remove key and store idle lawn mower indoors when not in use. Allow motor to cool before storing in any inclosure. Lawn mower should be stored indoors in a dry, high, or locked-up place, out of reach of children. • When servicing use only identical replacement parts listed in this manual. "Use of parts which do not meet the original equipment specifi- cations may lead to improper performance and compromise safety!" • Before cleaning, repairing, or inspecting, make certain the blade and all moving parts have stopped. Remove the key to prevent accidental starting. • Remove key before servicing, cleaning, or removing material from the lawn mower. • Follow instructions for lubricating and changing accessories. • Keep handles dry, clean and free from oil and grease. • To reduce a fire hazard, keep the motor cover free of grass, leaves and debris build-up. • Check the blade and motor mounting bolts at frequent intervals for proper tightness. Also, visually inspect blade for damage (e.g., bent, cracked, and worn). Replace blade with the original equipment manufacturer's (OEM) blade only, listed in this manual. • Maintain your mower with care -- Keep mower blade sharp and clean for best and safest performance. Mower blades are sharp and can cut, wrap the blade or wear gloves and use extra caution when servicing them. • Keep all nuts, bolts, and screws tight to be sure the equipment is in safe working condition. • Never tamper with safety devices. Check their proper operation regularly. • Never attempt to make wheel or cutting height adjustments while the motor is running. • After striking a foreign object, stop the motor, remove the key, and thoroughly inspect the mower for any damage. Repair the damage before operating the mower. • Grass catcher components, discharge cover, and trailing shield are subject to wear and damage which could expose moving parts or allow objects to be thrown. For safety protection, frequently check components and replace immediately with original equipment manufacturer's (OEM) parts only, listed in this manual. iMPORTANT: Be certain to charge the battery for at least 14 hours before operating your mower. Refer to Operation section. NOTE: Stand behind the mower as if you were going to operate it. Your right hand corresponds to the right side of the mower; your left hand corresponds to the left side of the mower. LOOSE PARTS iN CARTON The following items are packaged loose in the carton: Operator's Manual, Grass Catcher REMOVING THE UNiT FROM THE CARTON 1. Cut the corners of the carton and lay the sides flat on the ground. Remove all packing inserts. 2. Move the mower and grass catcher out of the carton. 3. Make certain the carton has been completely emptied before discarding it. ASSEMBLING THE HANDLE 1. Remove any packing material which may be between upper and lower handles. 2. Loosen each hand knob found on the inside of the upper handle. 3. Gently lift and pivot the upper handle into the operating position as shown in Figure 1. 6. Tighten star knobs securing lower handle to handle brackets. See Figure 2. Make certain the lower handle is seated securely into the handle mounting brackets. f Figure 2 ATTACHING THE GRASS CATCHER 1. Lift rear discharge door. 2. Remove mulching baffle. See Figure 3. Remove star knobs from handle mounting brackets and secure the lower handle onto the handle brackets by placing the lower hole of the lower handle onto the pins of the handle brackets. 5. Secure the upper handle and lower handle by tightening the hand knobs. Each carriage bolt must be seated properly into the square hole found in the plastic connector. Figure 3 8
Place grass catcher on the pivot rod. Let go of discharge door so that it rests on the grass catcher. See Figure 4. Figure 4 To remove the grass catcher, lift the rear discharge door on the mower. Lift the grass catcher up, off of the pivot rod. Release the rear discharge door. Never operate mower unless the hooks on the grass catcher are firmly seated on the pivot rod and the rear discharge door rests firmly against top of the grass catcher. CONVERTING TO SIDE DISCHARGE To convert to side discharge, make sure grass catcher is off of the unit. Replace the rear mulching baffle and close rear discharge door. To discharge grass to the side: 1. Lift mulching plug on the right side of mower. 2. Slide two hooks of side discharge chute under the hinge pin on the mulching plug assembly and lower the side mulching plug. See Figure 5. \4 ................................................ ................... NOTE: Do not remove the side mulching plug at any time, even when you are not mulching. CUTTING HEIGHT ADJUSTMENT The cutting height adjustment lever is located above the rear left wheel. See Figure 6. 1. Pull the lever out and away from the mower. 2. Move the lever forward or back for desired cutting height. 3. Release lever towards mower deck. Do not at any time make any adjustment to lawn mower without first stopping motor and removing key. Never attempt to bypass its operations. The motor/blade control handle is located on the upper handle of the mower. See Figure 7. The motor/blade control handle engages and disengages the motor and blade. The motor/blade control consists of three parts- starter button, motor/blade control handle, and key. Release the motor/blade control handle to stop the motor and blade. Remove the key to prevent accidental starting when equipment is unattended. IMPORTANT: if the far left red light illuminates, the batteries will need to be recharged before further use. Continued operation before charging may shorten the life of the batteries. CIRCUIT BREAKER RESET BUTTON The mower is equipped with a circuit breaker reset button, located on the motor/blade control. Refer to Figure 7. This circuit breaker reset button may pop out when too much strain is placed on the motor. Refer to Maintenance Section to reset this button. KEY The key must be present and inserted before the motor can be started. See Figure 8. DO NOT TURN KEY. The blade will be rotating whenever the motor is running. HEIGHT ADJUSTMENT LEVER The cutting height adjustment lever is located above the left rear wheel. To adjust the cutting height, refer to the Assembly Section. BATTERY LEVEL INDICATOR The battery level indicator is located on the motor cover. The indicator shows the condition of the battery and is on when the motor is on. The indicator lit all the way to the right indicates the battery is fully charged; as the indicator is lit more toward the left, it indicates the battery is discharging. See Figure 7 inset. 10
CHARGING THE BATTERY Charge the mower for 14 hours before initial use. Charge mower indoors in a dry area out of the weather. DO NOT charge in rain or wet locations. IMPORTANT: Use only the battery charger provided with this mower (Part number 725-04387). Plug the battery charger into the mower first, and then into any standard 110/120 volt household electrical outlet. See Figure 8 inset for battery charging location on mower. IMPORTANT: Always disconnect battery charger (or extension cord, if used) from the electrical outlet first, then disconnect battery charger from mower. STARTING THE MOWER AND BLADE 1. Insert key. Refer to Figure 9. f Circuit Breaker Charger Adapter Reset Button '_. ...J Figure 8 NOTE: If an extension cord is required, use one that is at least wire size 16 AWG. Connect the extension cord to charger before plugging extension cord into electrical outlet. The battery contains corrosive fluid and toxic material- HANDLE WITH CARE. Keep away from children. Do not puncture, disassemble, mutilate, or incinerate. Explosive gases could be vented during charging or discharging. Use in a well ventilated area, away from sources of ignition. IMPORTANT: Always recharge mower fully. The charger is a two stage charger. The first stage, equalize, supplies a higher voltage to the batteries. This helps speed charge time and balance the charge across the individual batteries. The second stage, float, supplies a lower voltage. This prevents the batteries from experiencing overcharging damage and also "tops off" the battery charge. Depending on battery condition the equalize stage will complete in approximately 8 hours. When the equalize stage is complete the charger's green LED will stop blinking. This starts the float stage. During the float stage the chargers green LED will be on continuously. The float stage will "top off" the batteries in approximately 4-6 hours, again, depending on the condition of the battery. However, a full 14 hour charge is always recommended. NOTE: It is recommended that the mower be charged once every two months during storage. Figure 9 2. Depress starter button on the motor/blade control. 3. USING YOUR LAWN MOWER The operation of any lawn mower can result in foreign objects being thrown into the eyes, which can damage your eyes severely. Always wear safety glasses while operating the mower, or while performing an ad ustments or re a rs on t. • Be sure that lawn is clear of stones, sticks, wires, or other objects which could damage the lawn mower or motor. Such objects could be accidentally thrown by the mower in any direction and cause serious personal injury to the operator and others. If you strike a foreign object, stop the motor, and remove the key. Thoroughly inspect the mower for any damage, and repair the damage before restarting and operating the mower. Excessive vibration of the mower during operation is an indication of damage. The unit should be promptly inspected and repaired. o o When using the side discharge, the most effective mowing pattern is one that allows the clippings to discharge towards the uncut part of the lawn. DO NOT use mower in the rain. For a healthy lawn, always cut off one-third or less of the total length of the grass. For best results, do not cut wet grass because it tends to stick to the underside of the deck preventing proper mulching or discharge of grass clippings. New or thick grass may require a narrower cut. 12
GENERAL RECOMMENDATIONS Always observe safety rules when performing any type of maintenance. The warranty on this lawn mower does not cover items that have been subjected to operator abuse or negligence. To receive full value from warranty, operator must maintain the lawn mower as instructed here. • AIi adjustments should be checked at least once each season. • Periodically check all fasteners and make sure these are tight. LUBRICATION Always stop the motor and remove key before cleaning, lubricating or performing any repairs or maintenance on the lawn mower. Always wear safety glasses during operation or while performing any adjustments or repairs. DECK CARE The underside of mower deck should be cleaned after each use as grass clippings, leaves, dirt and other debris will accumulate. This accumulation of grass clippings, etc., is undesirable as it will promote rust and corrosion. 1. Remove any buildup of grass and leaves on or around the motor cover (do not use water). Wipe the mower clean with a dry cloth occasionally. To reduce the risk of electric shock, do not expose the mower to water. 2. If debris is allowed to build up on the underside of the unit, tilt the mower and scrape it clean with a suitable tool (make certain the key is removed). REPLACING TRAILING SHIELD f Lubricate the wheels at least once a season with light oil (or motor oil). If wheels are removed for any reason, lubricate surface of the pivot arm and inner surface of the wheel with light oil. See Figure 10. Figure 10 Lubricate the torsion spring and pivot point on the rear discharge door and side mulch plug periodically with light oil to prevent rust. See Figure 10. Never operate mower unless the trailing shield is in place and working. Never operate mower with damaged safety devices. Failure to do so, can result in personal injury. The trailing shield is subject to wear and damage which could expose moving parts or allow objects to be thrown. For safety protection, frequently check the trailing shield and replace immediately with original equipment manufacturer's (OEM) part only, listed in this manual. E To remove trailing shield, lift rear door, and bend (bow) the trailing shield inward on each side to release tabs from the holes in the mower frame. See Figure 11. BLADE CARE When removing the cutting blade for sharpening or replacement, protect your hands with a pair of heavy gloves or use a heavy rag to hold the blade. Be certain to stop motor and remove key. Periodically inspect the blade adapter for cracks, especially if you strike a foreign object. Replace when necessary. Follow the steps below for blade service. Blade Removal . f Stop the motor and remove ignition key. Turn the mower on its side. Place a 2x4 block of wood approximately 8.5" long between the deck housing and the cutting blade to act as a stabilizer. See Figure 12. Block of Locking _ Blade Wood Plate _ _"'Bolt Figure 12 3. Loosen and remove the blade bolt, locking plate, and blade. See Figure 12. Blade Sharpening IMPORTANT: If any metal separation is present, replace the blades with new ones. To properly sharpen the cutting blades, remove equal amounts of metal from both ends of the blades along the cutting edges, parallel to the trailing edge, at a 250 to 300 angle. See Figure 13. f Figure 13 NOTE: It is important that each cutting blade edge be ground equally to maintain proper blade balance. A poorly balanced blade will cause excessive vibration and may cause damage to the mower and result in personal injury. The blade can be tested by balancing it on a round shaft screwdriver. Grind metal from the heavy side until it balances evenly. An unbalanced blade will cause excessive vibration when rotating at high speeds. It may cause damage to mower and could break lcaus ng persona njury. Blade Installation 1. Place the cutting blade, locking plate, and blade bolt on the motor shaft and thread the blade bolt in finger tight. NOTE: Make certain to replace the parts in the exact order in which they were removed. When installing the cutting blade, be sure it is installed with the curved ends pointing towards the mower deck and not towards the ground. 2. Torque the blade bolt down using a torque wrench to assure the bolt is tightened properly. The recommended torque for the blade bolt is 170-220 in. Ibs. To ensure safe operation of your mower, periodically check the blade bolt for correct torque. The blade hardware is not only used to attach the blade assembly, but is also an insulated safety device and should never be altered in any way. If replacement is necessary, use original equipment parts as shown in the parts list. 14
RESETTING CiRCUiT BREAKER RESET BUTTON This mower is equipped with an circuit breaker reset button to prevent overheating damage to the motor. If the circuit breaker reset button pops out: 1. Release the motor/blade control handle and do NOT re-start the mower for at least one minute, allowing for the motor time to cool. 2. Press the circuit breaker reset button inward to reset. See Figure 14. f Reset Button If the circuit breaker reset button pops out shortly after resetting: 1. Release the motor/blade control handle and do NOT re-start the mower for at least 15 minutes to allow the motor extra time to cool. . 3. Press the circuit breaker reset button inward to reset. Restart unit. NOTE: If the circuit breaker reset button pops out repeatedly during operation or will not remain in when attempting to reset, contact your nearest Sears Service Center to arrange for repair. BATTERY CARE IMPORTANT: Replace with only the identical battery provided with this mower (Part number 725-04381A). The battery should only be replaced by a Sears Service Center. • Do not store unit below -20 degrees Celsius (-4 degrees F). • Store the mower fully charged. Charging the unit every two months during storage will provide additional insurance that the batteries will not suffer any capacity loss. • These batteries will not leak and can be stored on their sides. Due to a potential shock hazard, DO NOT attempt to remove the motor/battery shroud. There are no user serviceable parts inside. Contact your nearest Sears Service Center if repairs are needed. MAINTENANCE SCHEDULE Always stop the motor and remove key before cleaning, lubricating or performing any repairs or maintenance on the lawn mower. PREPARING THE LAWN MOWER The following steps should be taken to prepare your lawn mower for storage: • Lubricate mower thoroughly as described in the lubrication instructions. • Remove any buildup of grass and leaves on or around the motor cover (do not use water). Wipe the mower clean with a dry cloth. If debris is allowed to build up on the underside of the unit, tilt the mower and scrape it clean with a suitable tool (make certain the key is removed). Store mower fully charged. Charging the unit every two months during storage will provide additional insurance that the batteries will not suffer any capacity loss. IMPORTANT: We strongly recommend the mower be charged once every two months during storage. Store mower in a dry, clean area. Do not store next to corrosive materials, such as fertilizer. Wipe the cord to remove any stains or foreign substance such as oil. Coat mower's cutting blade with chassis grease to prevent rusting. Do not store unit below -20 degrees Celsius (-4 degrees F). These batteries will not leak and can be stored on their sides. 16

Corte las esquinas de la caja de cart6n y exti_nda los lados en el piso Quite todos los separadores de ernpaque. 2. Saque la cortadora de cesped y el colector de recortes de la caja. 3. AsegQrese de vaciar completarnente la caja antes de tirarla. MONTAJE DE LA MANIJA 1. Retire el material de ernpaque que pudiera estar entre las rnanijas superior e inferior. 2. Afloje cada perilla de rnano que se encuentra en el interior de la rnanija superior. 3. Levante con cuidado y gire la rnanija superior a la posici6n de funcionarniento corno se rnuestra en la Figura 1. Figura 1 4. Retire las perillas en estrella de los soportes de rnontaje de la rnanija y sujete la rnanija inferior a los soportes de la rnanija colocando el orificio inferior de la rnanija inferior en los pasadores de los soportes. 5. Asegure la rnanija superior y la rnanija inferior apretando las perillas de rnano. Es necesario asentar correctarnente cada perno del carro en el orificio cuadrado del conector de pl_.stico. 6. Apriete las perillas en estrella ajustando la rnanija inferior a los soportes de la rnanija. Vea la Figura 2. Libere la puerta de descarga trasera. O A Nunca opere la cortadora a menos que los ganchos del colector de c_sped est_n firmemente asentados en la varilla de pivote y la puerta de descarga trasera descanse firmemente contra la parte superior del colector de c_sped. CONVERSION A DESCARGA LATERAL Si hace la conversi6n a descarga lateral, asegQrese de que el colector de c_sped est_ fuera de la unidad. Vuelva a colocar la tolva de abono posterior y cierre la puerta de descarga trasera. Para descargar los recortes por el costado: 1. Levante la clavija de conexi6n para abono del lado derecho de la cortadora. Deslice los dos ganchos del canal de descarga lateral debajo del pasador en el montaje de la clavija para abono y baje la clavija para abono lateral. Vea la Figura 5. Suelte la rnanija de control del rnotor/la cuchilla para detener el motor y la cuchilla. Saque la Ilave para evitar el arranque accidental cuando el equipo no est,. vigilado. INDICADOR DE NIVEL DE LA BATERiA El indicador de nivel de la bateria se encuentra en la tapa del motor. El indicador rnuestra el estado de la bateria y est,. encendido rnientras el motor est,. encendido. No perfore, desensamNe, mutile o prenda fuego. Durante ia carga o descarga se _odrian emitir gases expiosivos. Utiiiceia en un _.rea bien ventiiada, ejos de fuentes de combusti6n. iMPORTANTE: Siempre recargue la cortadora totalmente. El cargador es un cargador de dos etapas. La primera etapa, compensadora, en- via tensi6n m_.s alta alas baterias. Esto sirve para acelerar el tiempo de carga y niveiar la carga en todas las baterias. La segunda etapa, lent& envia una tensi6n m_.s baja. Esto evita el daSo por sobrecarga alas baterias y tambi_n "corona" la carga de las baterias. Seg_n la condici6n de ia bateria la etapa compensadora se completa aproxima- damente en 8 horas. Ai completarse la etapa compensadora el LED verde dei cargador dejar_, de parpadear. Alli comienza la etapa lent& Durante la etapa lenta el LED verde se mantendr_, constantemente encendido. La etapa lenta "corona" las baterias en aproximadamente 4 a 6 horas, tambi_n seg_n la condici6n de la bateria. No obstante, siempre se recomienda cargar durante las 14 horas completas. NOTA: Se recomienda cargar la cortadora de c_sped una vez cada dos meses mientras est,. aimacenada. iMPORTANTE: Siempre desconecte primero el cargador (o el cable de extensi6n, si se usa) del tomacorriente el_ctrico, luego desconecte el cargador de la cortadora. APAGADO DEL MOTOR Y LA CUCHILLA 1. Suelte la manija de control del motor/la cuchilla para detener el motor y la cuchilla. La cuchilla continua girando por unos cuantos segundos despu_s que el motor se ha apagado. Si el motor no se detiene cuando se suelta la manija de control del motor/la cuchilla, p6ngase en contacto con el centro de servicio Sears m_.s cercano. 2. Saque la llave para evitar el arranque accidental cuando el equipo no est,. vigilado. 3. Cargue la cortadora de c_sped. USO DE LA CORTADORA DE CO:SPED AI hacer funcionar la cortadora de c_sped puede ser que arroja objetos extra_os a los ojos, Io cual puede da_arlos gravemente. Utilice siempre galas de seguridad durante el funcionamiento de la cortadora o mientras hace ajustes o la repara. • AsegOrese que el cesped est,. libre de piedras, palos, cables u otros objetos que pudiesen da_ar la cortadora o el motor. Dichos objetos pueden set accidentalmente arrojados en cualquier direcci6n por la cortadora y provocar lesiones personales graves al operador y a otras personas. X Si golpea un objeto extra,o, detenga el motor y saque la Ilave. In- speccione la cortadora minuciosamente para vet que no tenga da_os y repare el da_o antes de volver a arrancarla y hacerla funcionar. El exceso de vibraci6n de la cortadora durante el funcionamiendo es indicaci6n de da_o. Se debe inspeccionar y reparar la unidad Io antes _osible. o o Cuando se usa la descarga lateral, el patr6n de corte m_.s eficaz es el que permite descargar los recortes en un _.rea del cesped aOn no cortada. NO utilice la cortadora en la lluvia. Si desea un c_sped sano, corte siempre un tercio o menos de la Iongitud total del mismo. Para 6ptimos resultados, no corte cesped hOmedo porque tiende a pegarse a la parte baja de la cortadora, impidiendo preparar el abono y descargar los recortes de cesped correctamente. El cesped nuevo o grueso puede requerir un corte m_.s estrecho. 33
RECONIENDACIONES GENERALES • Respete siernpre las reglas de seguridad cuando realice cualquier tipo de rnantenirniento. • La garanfia de esta podadora no cubre elernentos que ban estado sujetos al rnal uso o la negligencia del operador. Para recibir el reernbolso total de la garanfia, el operador deber_. rnantener la podadora corno se indica en este manual. • Todos los ajustes deben ser verificados por Io rnenos una vez por ternporada. • Revise peri6dicarnente todos los sujetadores y cornpruebe que est_n bien ajustados. LUBRICACI(SN Apague el motor y retire la Ilave siernpre antes de lirnpiar, lubricar o realizar cualquier reparaci6n o tarea de rnantenirniento en la cortadora de c_sped. Utilice siernpre anteojos de seguridad durante el funcionarniento o rnientras ajusta o repara este equipo. Lubrique las ruedas por Io rnenos una vez por ternporada con aceite ligero o aceite para motor. Si las ruedas se quitan por cualquier raz6n, debe lubricar la superficie del brazo giratorio y la superficie interna de la rueda con aceite ligero. Vea la Figura 10. jj_ 2 Lubnque el resorte de torsion y el punto de pwote de la puerta trasera de descarga y clavija de abono lateral peri6dicarnente con aceite ligero para evitar que se oxide. Vea la Figura 10. CUIDADO DE LA CUBIERTA Debe lirnpiar la parte inferior de la plataforrna de la cortadora despu_s de cada uso ya que se acurnulan recortes de pasto, hojas, suciedad y otros desechos. Esta acurnulaci6n de recortes de pasto, etc. no es aconsejable porque produce 6xido y corrosi6n. 1. Quite el pasto y hojas acurnulados alrededor de la tapa del motor (no use agua). Ocasionalrnente lirnpie la cortadora con un paso seco. Para reducir el riesgo de sufrir descargas el_ctricas, no exponga la cortadora de cesped al agua. 2. Si se ban acurnulado desechos en la parte inferior de la unidad, incline la cortadora y lirnpie raspando con una herrarnienta adecuada (asegQrese de haber sacado la Ilave). REEIVIPLAZO DEL ESCUDO POSTERIOR Nunca opere la cortadora si el escudo posterior no est& colocado y funcionando. Nunca opere la cortadora si los dispositivos de seguridad est_.n da_ados. De Io contrario, pueden producirse lesiones personales. El escudo posterior est,. sujeto a desgaste y da_os Io que podria dejar expuestas las partes rnoviles o perrnitir que arroje objetos. Para proteger su seguridad, verifique frecuenternente el escudo posterior reernplaz_.ndolo inrnediatarnente con las piezas del fabricante original del equipo identificadas en este manual. 1. Para retirar el escudo posterior, levante la puerta trasera y doble (combe) el escudo hacia adentro a cada lado para soltar las leng(Jetas de los orificios del bastidor de la cortadora. Vea la Figura 11. Figura 11 2. Reernplace con un escudo nuevo doblando el escudo para perrnitir que las leng(Jetas calcen en los orificios del bastidor de la cortadora. 34
CUIDADO DE LA CUCHILLA Cuando saque la cuchilla de corte para aflarla o reernplazarla, prot_jase las rnanos usando un par de guantes gruesos o un trapo grueso para sostener la cuchila. Aseg0rese de apagar el motor y retirar la lave. Inspeccione peri6dicarnente el adaptador de la cuchila en busca de rajaduras, especialrnente cuando golpee un objeto extraSo. Reernplace seg0n necesidad. Siga los pasos que aparecen debajo para realizar el rnantenirniento de la cuchila. Extracci6n de cuchillas 1. Detenga el motor y retire la lave. Coloque la cortadora de c_sped sobre un lado. 2. Coloque un taco de rnadera 2x4 de aproxirnadarnente 8,5 pulga- das de largo entre el alojarniento de la plataforrna y la cuchila de corte, para que actQe corno establizador. Vea la Figura 11. 3. Afloje y saque el perno de la cuchila, la placa de seguridad y la cuchila. Vea la Figura 12. f Afilado de cuchillas IMPORTANTE: Si existe una separaci6n en el metal, reernplace las cuchilas por otras nuevas. Para aflar las cuchilas de corte correctarnente, extraiga cantidades iguales de metal de arnbos extrernos de las cuchilas a Io largo de los hordes cortantes, paralelo al horde de caida, a un &ngulo de 250 a 30 °. Vea la Figura 13. Una cuchilla desequilibrada causar& dernasiada vibraci6n, y puede ocasionar daSos a la cortadora que resuten en lesiones personales. Se puede probar la cuchila balance&ndola sobre un destornilador de eje circular. Afle el metal del lado pesado hasta que quede bien equlibrada. Si la cuchlla est& desequlibrada causar_, dernasiada vibraci6n al rotar a altas velocidades. Puede daSar la cortadora de c_sped y se puede romper, causando es ones persona es. Instalaci6n de cuchillas 1. Coloque la cuchilla de corte, la placa de seguridad y el perno de la cuchila sobre el eje del motor y atornile el perno con la rnano. NOTA: AsegOrese de volver a colocar las partes en el rnisrno orden en que las retir6. AI instalar la cuchila de corte, asegOrese de instalarla con los extrernos curvos hacia la plataforrna de la cortadora y no hacia el suelo. 2. Aplique torsi6n al perno de la cuchila usando una lave de par para asegurar que el perno est& correctarnente apretado. El torque recornendado para el perno de la cuchila es 170-220 pulg/Ib. Para asegurar la operaci6n segura de la podadora revise peri6dica- rnente el perno de la cuchila para deterrninar si est& bien ajustado. Las piezas rnet&licas de la cuchila no s61o se utilzan para fijar el conjunto de la cuchila, sino que tarnbi_n corno dispositivo aislante de seguridad y nunca deben rnodificarse de ninguna rnanera. Si es necesario reernplazar- las, use piezas originales corno se rnuestra en la lsta de piezas. 35
REPOSICION DEL BOTON DE REPOSICION DEL DISYUNTOR Esta cortadora de c_sped est,. equipada con un bot6n de reposici6n del disyuntor para evitar que el motor se daSe debido a recalentamiento. Si el bot6n de reposici6n del disyuntor salta: 1. Suelte la manija de control del motor/la cuchilla y NO vuelva a arrancar la cortadora durante al menos un minuto, dando tiempo al motor para que se enfrie. 2. Empuje el bot6n de reposici6n del disyuntor hacia adentro para reponer. Vea la Figura 14. f del disyuntor Si el bot6n de reposici6n del disyuntor salta poco despu_s de reponerlo: 1. Suelte la manija de control del motor/la cuchilla y NO vuelva a arrancar la cortadora durante al menos 15 minutos, dando m_.s tiempo al motor para que se enfrie. 2. Empuje el bot6n de reposici6n del disyuntor hacia adentro para reponer. 3. Vuelva a arrancarla unidad. NOTA: Si el bot6n de reposici6n del disyuntor sara repetida- mente durante la operaci6n o no se mantiene mientras se Io intenta reponer, p6ngase en contacto con el centro de servicio Sears m_.s cercano para acordar una reparaci6n. CUIDADO DE LA BATERIA IMPORTANTE: Reemplace Qnicamente con una bateria id_ntica a la que viene con esta cortadora de cesped (Pieza N O 725-04381). La bateria debe ser reemplazada s61o por el centro de servicio Sears. Debido al riesgo de chocque el@trico, NO intente quitar la cubierta del motor/la bateria. Adentro no hay piezas recambiables por el usuario. Si hace falta reparar, p6ngase en contacto con el centro de servicio Sears m_.s cercano. Apague el motor y retire la Ilave siempre antes de limpiar, lubricar realizar cualquier reparaci6n o tarea de mantenimiento en la cortadora de cesped. Lirnpie la cortadora de cesped con un paso seco. • Si se ban acurnulado desechos en la parte inferior de la unidad. incline la cortadora y lirnpie raspando con una herrarnienta adecuada (asegQrese de haber sacado la Ilave). • Alrnacene la cortadora totalrnete cargada. IMPORTANTE: Se recornienda enf_.ticarnente cargar la cortadora de c_sped una vez cada dos rneses rnientras est,. alrnacenada. • Alrnacene la unidad en una zona lirnpia y seca. No la alrnacene cerca de productos corrosivos corno por ejernplo fertilizantes. • Lirnpie el cable para sacarle rnanchas o sustancias extra,as corno por ejernplo aceite. • Cubra la cuchilla de la cortadora con grasa para chasis para irnpedir que se oxide. 37
