This Warranty does not cover: o Expendable items which become worn during normal use, such as rotary mower blades, blade adapters, belts, air cleaners and spark plug, ⢠Repairs necessary because of operator abuse or negligence, including bent crank- shafts and the failure to maintain the equipment according to the instructions con- tained in the owner's manual. Warranty service is available by returning the Craftsman power mower to the nearest Sears Service Center/Department in the United States,. This warranty applies only while this product is in use in the United States. This Warranty gives you specific legal rights, and you may also have other rights which vary from state to state. Become familiar with the controls and know how to operate your mower properly: Learn how to quickly stop mower, o Do not allow children to use your mower, Never allow adults to use mower without proper instructions o Keep the area of operation clear of all persons, especially small children arrd pets, o Use mower only as the manufacturer intended and as described in this manual. = Do not operate mower if it has been dropped or damaged in any manner. Always have damage repaired before using your mower. ° Do not use accessory attachments that are not recommended by the manufac- turer. Use of such attachments may be hazardous. = The blade turns when the engine is running. PREPARATION: o Always thoroughly check the area to be mowed and clear it of all stones, sticks, wires, bones, and other foreign objects. These objects will be thrown by the blade and can cause severe injury_ ⢠Always wear safety glasses or eye shields when starting and while using your mower. o Dress properly. Do not operate mower when barefoot or wearing open sandals., Wear only solid shoes with good traction when mowing. o Check fuel tank before starting engine. Do not fill gas tank indoors, when the engine is running or when the engine is 2
hot. Allow the engine to cool for several minutes before filling the gas tank Clean off any spilled gasoline before starting the engine o Always make wheel height adjustments before starting your mower Never attempt to do this while the engine is running, o Mow only in daylight or good artificial lighL OPERATION: = Keep your eyes and mind on your mower and the area being cuL Do not let other interests distract you_ o Do not mew wet or slippery grass. Never run while operating your mower Always be sure of your footing -- keep a firm hold on the handles and walk. o Do net put hands or feet near or under rotating parts Keep clear of the discharge opening at all times = Always stop the engine whenever you leave or are not using your mower, or before crossing driveways, walks, roads, and any gravel--covered areas = Never direct discharge of material toward bystanders nor allow anyone near the mower while you are operating it. = Before cleaning, inspecting, or repairing your mower, stop the engine and make absolutely sure the blade and all moving parts have stopped. Then disconnect the spark plug wire and keep it away from the spark plug to prevent accidental starting. o Do not continue to run your mower if you hit a foreign object Follow the procedure outlined above, then repair any damage before restarting and operating you mower, o Do not change the governor settings or overspeed the engine, Engine damage or personal injury may resulL ° Do not operate your mower if it vibrates abnormally, Excessive vibration is an indication of damage; stop the engine, safely check for the cause of vibration and repair as required. o Do not run the engine indoors Exhaust fumes are dangerous ° Never cut grass by pulling the mower towards you Mow across the face of slopes, never up and down or you might lose your footing. Do not mow exces- sively steep slopes. Use caution when operating the mower on uneven terrain or when changing directions -- maintain good footing.. o Never operate your mower without proper guards, plates, grass catcher or other safety devices in place MAINTENANCE AND STORAGE: o Check the blade and the engine mount- ing bolts often to be sure they are tightened properly. o Check all bolts, nuts and screws at frequent intervals for proper tightness to be sure mower is in safe working condition. . Keep all safety devices in place and working. o To reduce fire hazard, keep the engine free of grass, leaves or excessive grease and oil. o Check grass catcher often for deteriora- tion and wear and replace worn bags. Use only replacement bags that are recommended by and comply with specifications of the manufacturer of your mower. o Always keep a sharp blade on your mower. o Allow engine to cool before storing in any enclosure o Never store mower with fuel in the tank inside a building where fumes may reach an open flame or an ignition source such as a hot water heater, space heater, clothes dryer, etc. CAUTION: Always disconnect spark plug wire and place wire where it cannot contact spark plug in order to prevent accidental starting when setting up, transporting, adjusting or making repairs, WARNING The engine exhaust from this product contains chemicals known to the State of California to cause cancer, birth defects, or other reproductive harm. 3

All parts such as nuts, washers, bolts, etc,, necessary to complete the assembly have been placed in 8te parts bag To ensure safe and propet' operation of your lawn mower, all parts and hardware you assemble must be tightened securely. Use the o correct tools as necessary to ensure proper tightness. TO REMOVE LAWN MOWER FROIVt CARTON o Remove {oose parts included with mower. o Cut down two end comers of carton and lay end panel down flat o Remove all packing materials except padding between upper and lower handle and padding holding operator presence control bar to upper handle. ,, Roll lawn mower out of carton and check carton thorougly for additional loose parts, HOW TO SET UP YOUR LAWN IVIOWER TO UNFOLD HANDLE IMPORTANT: Unfold handle carefully so as not to pinch or damage control cables, = Raise handles until tower handle section locks into place in mowing position. Remove protective padding, raise upper handle section into place on lower handle and tighten both handle knobs = Remove handle padding holding operator presence control bar to upper handle, o Your lawn mower handle can be adjusted for your mowing comfort. Refer to "Adjust Handle" in the Service and Adjustment section of this manual°

The operation of any lawn mower can result in foreign objects thrown into the eyes, which can result in severe eye damage. Always wear safety glasses or eye shields while operating your lawn mower or performing any adjustments or repairs. We recommend a wide vision safety mask over the spectacles or HOW TO USE YOUR LAWN MOWER ENGINE SPEED The engine speed was set at the factory for optimum performance, Speed is not adjustable. ENGINE ZONE CONTROL CAUTION; Federal regulations require an engine control to be installed on this lawn mower in order to minimize the risk of blade contact injury. Do not under any circumstances attempt to defeat the function of the operator control° The blade turns when the engine is running, ° Your lawn mower is equipped with an operator presence control bar which requires the operator to be positioned behind the lawn mower handle to start and operate the lawn mower. TO ADJUST CUTTING HEIGHT ° Raise wheels for low cut and lower wheels for high cut. ° Adjust cutting height to suit your requirements. Medium position is best for most lawns. ⢠To change cutting height, squeeze adjuster lever toward wheel. Move wheel up or down to suit your require- ments. Be sure all wheels are in the same setting. NOTE: Adjuster is properly positioned when plate tab inserts between tabs in lever. Also, 9-position adjusters (if so equipped) allow lever to be positioned between the plate tabs. Raise wheels for low cut _ Lever' _ ___ _atetab! I Lower wheels for high cut CAUTION: Do not run your lawn mower without discharge guard, approved grass catcher in place. BEFORE STARTING ENGINE OIL Your lawn mower is shipped without oil in the engine. = Be sure mower is level and area around oil fill is clean. ,, Remove engine oil plug and fill to the top of slot in filler hole. ° Use 20 ozs. of oil. For type and grade of oil to use, see "ENGINE" in Customer Responsibilities section of this manual. o Pour oil slowly. Do not over fill. o Check oil level before each use. Add oil if needed. o Reinstall engine oil plug and tighten. o Change the oil after every 25 hours of operation or each season. You may need to change the oil more often under dusty, dirty conditions. GAS ° Fill fuel tank. Use fresh, clean, regular unleaded gasoline with a minimum of 87 octane. Do not mix oil with gasoline. Purchase fuel in quantities that can be used within 30 days to assure fuel freshness. Gasoline filler cap Oil filler plug TO START ENGINE o To start a cold engine, push primer five (5) times before trying to start. Use a firm push. This step is not usually necessary when starting an engine which has already run for a few minutes_ Hold operator presence control bar down to the handle and pull starter handle quickly. DO NOT allow starter rope to snap back. o To STOP engine, release operator presence control bar. 6
NOTE: In cooler weather it may be o necessary to repeat priming steps_ In warmer weather over priming may cause flooding and engine will not start. If you do o flood engine wait a few minutes before attempting to start and DO NOT repeat priming steps, MOWING TIPS o Under certain conditions, such as very tall grass, it may be necessary to raise the height of cut to reduce pushing effort and to keep from overloading the engine ° and leaving clumps of grass clippings. ⢠For extremely heavy cutting, reduce the width of cut and raise the rear of the lawn mower housing one (1) wheel adjuster setting higher than the front for ° better discharge of grass. For better grass bagging and most cutting conditions, the engine speed should be set in the fast position For side discharge lawn mowers, cutting in a counter-clockwise direction, starting at the outside of the area to be cut, spreads grass clippings more evenly and puts less load on the engine. To keep clippings off of walkways, flower beds, etc. make the first cuts in a clockwise direction Pores in cloth grass catchers can become filled with dirt and dust with use and catchers will collect less grass. To prevent this, regularly hose catcher off with water and let dry before using, Keep top of engine around starter clear and clean of grass clippings and chaff, This will help engine air flow and extend engine life. 7

Some adjustments will need tO be made periodically to properly maintain your unit. All adjustments in the Service and Adjustments section of this manual should be checked at least once,_ac.h season. = Once a year, replace _e s'park plug, clean or replace air filter element and check blade for wear. A new spark plug and clean/new air filter element assures proper air-fuel mixture and helps your engine run better and last longer. o Follow the maintenance schedule in this manual. BEFORE EACH USE = Check engine oil level o Check for loose fasteners. LUBRICATION Keep unit well lubricated (See "LUBRICA- TION CHART"). LAWN MOWER Always observe safety rules when performing any maintenance, TIRES o Keep tires free of gasoline, oil, or insect control chemicals which can harm rubber o Avoid stumps, stones, deep ruts, sharp objects and other hazards that may cause tire damage BLADE CARE For best results, mower blade must be kept sharp. Replace bent or damaged blades. TO REMOVE BLADE o Disconnect spark plug wire from spark plug and place wire where it cannot come in contact with spark plug. o Turn lawn mower on its side. Make sure air filter and carburetor are up. o Use a wood block between blade and mower housing to prevent blade from turning when removing blade bolt. o Protect your hands with gloves and/or wrap blade with heavy cloth. o Remove blade bolt by turning counter- clockwise Use a 9/16" box or open-end wrench. o Remove blade and attaching hardware (bolt, lock washer and hardened washer) NOTE: Remove the blade adapter and check the key inside hub of blade adapter The key must be in good condition to work properly. Replace adapter if damage& TO REPLACE BLADE ⢠Position the blade adapter on the engine crankshafL Be sure key in adapter and crankshaft keyway are aligned. o Position blade on the blade adapter aligning the two (2) holes in the blade with the raised lugs on the adapter. o Be sure the trailing edge of blade (opposite sharp edge) is up toward the engine. o Install the blade bolt with the lock washer and hardened washer into blade adapter and crankshaft. o Use block of wood between blade and lawn mower housing and tighten the blade belt, turning clockwise.
° The recommended tightening torque is 35-40 ft. Ibs.. IMPORTANT: Blade bolt is grade 8 heat treated.. NOTE: We do not recommend sharp- ening blade- butifyoudo, be sure the blade is balanced. TO SHARPEN BLADE Care should be taken to keep the blade balanced. An unbalanced blade will cause eventual damage to lawn mower or engine. o The blade can be sharpened with a file or on a grinding wheel. Do not attempt to sharpen while on the mower. o To check blade balance, drive a nail into a beam or wall. Leave about one inch of the straight nail exposed. Place center hole of blade over the head of the nail If blade is balanced, it should remain in a horizontal position. If either end of the blade moves downward, sharpen the heavy end until the blade is balanced. Through normal use it will wear. If catcher needs replacing, replace only with a manufac- turer approved replacement catcher. Give the lawn mower model number when ordering. ENGINE LUBRICATION Use only high quality detergent oil rated with API service classification SF, SG or SH. Select the oil's SAE viscosity grade according to your expected operating temperature. SAE VIScosrPI" GRADES NOTE: Although multi-viscosity oils (5W30, 10W30 etc.) improve starting in cold weather, these multi-viscosity oils will result in increased oil consumption when used above 32°F. Check your engine oil level more frequently to avoid possible engine damage from running low on oil. Change the oil after every 25 hours of operation or at least once a year if the lawn mower is not used for 25 hours in one year. Check the crankcase oil level before starting the engine and after each five (5) hours of continuous use. Tighten oil plug securely each time you check the oil level TO CHANGE ENGINE OIL o Disconnect spark plug wire from spark plug and place wire where it cannot come in contact with spark plug.. o Be sure lawn mower is on level surface. o Oil will drain more freely when warm. = Catch oil in a suitable container = Remove bottom oil drain plug. ⢠After oil has drained completely, replace oil drain plug and tighten securely. o Refill engine with oil. Pourslowiy. Do not over fill. ⢠FlU to top of slot inside of filler hole ⢠Reconnect spark plug wire to spark plug. Drain plug AIR FILTER Your engine will not run properly and may be damaged by using a dirty air filter. Clean the element after every 25 hours of operation, more often if mower is used in very dusty, dirty conditions. TO CLEAN AIR FILTER ELEMENT o Remove the air filter by tuming counter- clockwise to the stop and pull away from collar. 10
o Remove filter from inside of cover. o Clean the inside of the cover and the collar to remove any dirt accumulation o Insert new filter into cover ° Put air filter cover and filter into collar aligning the tab with the slot o Push in on cover and turn clockwise to tighten. SPARK PLUG Change your spark plug each year to make your engine start easier and run better. Set spark plug gap at .030 inch. CLEANING IMPORTANT: FOR BEST PERFORMANCE, KEEP MOWER HOUSING FREE OF BUILT- UP GRASS AND TRASH. Clean the underside of your mower after each use CAUTION: Disconnect spark plug wire from spark plug and place wire where it cannot come in contact with the spark plug . Turn lawn mower on its side Make sure air filter and carburetor are up. Clean the underside of your lawn mower by scraping to remove build-up of grass and trash. o Clean engine often to keep trash from accumulating A clogged engine runs hotter and shortens engine life o Keep finished surfaces and wheels free of all gasoline, oil,etc. o We do not recommend using a garden hose to clean lawn mower unless the electrical system, muffler, air filter and carburetor are covered to keep water out. Water in engine can result in shortened engine life. CAUTION: BEFORE PERFORMING ANY SERVICE OR ADJUSTMENTS: o Release control ban o Make sure the blade and all moving parts have completely stopped ° Disconnect spark plug wire from spark plug and place where it cannot come in contact with plug. LAWN MOWER TO ADJUST CU-I-RNG HEIGHT See "TO ADJUST CUTTING HEIGHT" in the Operation section of this manual REAR DEFLECTOR The rear deflector, attached between the rear wheels of your mower, is provided to minimize the possibility that objects will be thrown out of the rear of the mower into the operator mowing position. If the deflector becomes damaged, it should be replaced, DISCHARGE GUARD The discharge guard attached to the discharge opening of your lawn mower, is provided to prevent the possibility of injury resulting from objects being thrown out of the discharge opening into the operator mowing position. If the discharge guard becomes damaged, it should be replaced, 11 TO ADJUST HANDLE Your lawn mower handle can be raised or lowered for your mowing comfort. Four (4) positions are available: high, medium high, medium low and low. Handles are shipped mounted in the medium low position o To change from medium low to medium high position, the upper and lower handle sections will have to be turned over. o Remove the controls and operator presence control bar from the upper handle. o Remove the starter rope guide from the lower handle. o Remove hairpin cotters o Disconnect the lower handle from the handle bracket& o Tum the handle over and reassemble the hairpin cotters that have been removed, o Reassemble the starter rope guide. ° Reassemble the controls and the operator presence control bar to the upper handle. CAUTION: The operator presence control bar must pivot freely to permit blade brake engagement when control bar is released. Do net overtighten the fasteners holding the controls to the upper handle.
o To change from medium low to high position only the upper handle section will have to be tumed over. ° To change from medium low to low position, only the lower handle section will have to be tumed over_ Medium low Medium High __ow Squeeze to remove Lower handle Mounting bracket Hairpin clip ENGINE CARBURETOR Your carburetor has a non-adjustable fixed main jet for mixture control. If your engine does not operate properly due to suspected carburetor problems, take your lawn mower to an authorized service center for repair and adjustment. ENGINE SPEED The engine speed has been factory seL Do not attempt to increase engine speed as it may result in personal injury. If you believe the engine is running too fast or too slow, take your lawn mower to an authorized service center for repair and adjustment. Immediately prepare your lawn mower for storage at the end of the season or if the unit will not be used for 30 days or more. LAWN MOWER When lawrl mower is to be stored for a peded of time, clean it thoroughly, remove all dirt, grease, leaves, etc_ Store in a clean, dry area. o Clean entire lawn mower (See "CLEAN- ING" lt] the Customer Responsibilities section of this manual)_ o Lubricate as shown in the Customer Responsibilities section of this manual. = Be sure that all nuts, bolts, screws, and pins are securely fastened. Inspect moving parts for damage, breakage and wear. Replace if necessary. = Touch up all rusted or chipped paint surfaces; sand lightly before painting. HANDLE You carl fold your lawn mower handle for storage. ,, Squeeze the bottom ends of the lower handle toward each other until the lower handle dears the handle bracket, then move handle fonNard. o Loosen upper handle mounting bolts enough to allow upper handle to be folded back. IMPORTANT: When folding the handle for storage or transportation, be sure to fold the handle as shown or you may damage the control cables. ° When setting up your handle from the storage position, the lower' handle will automatically lock irrto the mowing position. ENGINE FUEL SYSTEM iMPORTANT: It is important to prevent gum deposits from forming in essential fuel system parts such as carburetor, fuel filter, fuel hose, or tank during storage Also, experience indicates that alcohol blended fuels (called gasohol or using ethanol or methanol) can attract moisture which leads to separation and formation of acids during storage. Acidic gas can damage the fuel system of an engine while in storage o Drain the fuel tank. o Start the engine and let it run until the fuel lines and carburetor are empty. o Never use engine or carburetor cleaner products in the fuel tank or permanent damage may occur ,, Use fresh fuel next season NOTE: Fuel stabilizer is an acceptable alternative in minimizing the formation of fuel gum deposits during storage. We recommend a wide vision safety mask over the spectacles or HOW TO USE YOUR LAWN MOWER ENGINE SPEED The engine speed was set at the factory for optimum performance, Speed is not adjustable. ENGINE ZONE CONTROL CAUTION; Federal regulations require an engine control to be installed on this lawn mower in order to minimize the risk of blade contact injury. Do not under any circumstances attempt to defeat the function of the operator control° The blade turns when the engine is running, ° Your lawn mower is equipped with an operator presence control bar which requires the operator to be positioned behind the lawn mower handle to start and operate the lawn mower. TO ADJUST CUTTING HEIGHT ° Raise wheels for low cut and lower wheels for high cut. ° Adjust cutting height to suit your requirements. Medium position is best for most lawns. ⢠To change cutting height, squeeze adjuster lever toward wheel. Move wheel up or down to suit your require- ments. Be sure all wheels are in the same setting. NOTE: Adjuster is properly positioned when plate tab inserts between tabs in lever. Also, 9-position adjusters (if so equipped) allow lever to be positioned between the plate tabs. BEFORE STARTING ENGINE OIL Your lawn mower is shipped without oil in the engine. = Be sure mower is level and area around oil fill is clean. ,, Remove engine oil plug and fill to the top of slot in filler hole. ° Use 20 ozs. of oil. For type and grade of oil to use, see "ENGINE" in Customer Responsibilities section of this manual. o Pour oil slowly. Do not over fill. o Check oil level before each use. Add oil if needed. o Reinstall engine oil plug and tighten. o Change the oil after every 25 hours of operation or each season. You may need to change the oil more often under dusty, dirty conditions. GAS ° Fill fuel tank. Use fresh, clean, regular unleaded gasoline with a minimum of 87 octane. Do not mix oil with gasoline. Purchase fuel in quantities that can be used within 30 days to assure fuel freshness. This step is not usually necessary when starting an engine which has already run for a few minutes_ Hold operator presence control bar down to the handle and pull starter handle quickly. NOTE: In cooler weather it may be o necessary to repeat priming steps_ In warmer weather over priming may cause flooding and engine will not start. If you do o flood engine wait a few minutes before attempting to start and DO NOT repeat priming steps, MOWING TIPS o Under certain conditions, such as very tall grass, it may be necessary to raise the height of cut to reduce pushing effort and to keep from overloading the engine ° and leaving clumps of grass clippings. ⢠For extremely heavy cutting, reduce the width of cut and raise the rear of the lawn mower housing one (1) wheel adjuster setting higher than the front for ° better discharge of grass. For better grass bagging and most cutting conditions, the engine speed should be set in the fast position For side discharge lawn mowers, cutting in a counter-clockwise direction, starting at the outside of the area to be cut, spreads grass clippings more evenly and puts less load on the engine. To keep clippings off of walkways, flower beds, etc. make the first cuts in a clockwise direction Pores in cloth grass catchers can become filled with dirt and dust with use and catchers will collect less grass. To prevent this, regularly hose catcher off with water and let dry before using, Keep top of engine around starter clear and clean of grass clippings and chaff, This will help engine air flow and extend engine life. 7

TO SHARPEN BLADE Care should be taken to keep the blade balanced. An unbalanced blade will cause eventual damage to lawn mower or engine. o The blade can be sharpened with a file or on a grinding wheel. Do not attempt to sharpen while on the mower. o To check blade balance, drive a nail into a beam or wall. Leave about one inch of the straight nail exposed. Place center hole of blade over the head of the nail If blade is balanced, it should remain in a horizontal position. If either end of the blade moves downward, sharpen the heavy end until the blade is balanced. ENGINE LUBRICATION Use only high quality detergent oil rated with API service classification SF, SG or SH. Select the oil's SAE viscosity grade according to your expected operating temperature. SAE VIScosrPI" GRADES NOTE: Although multi-viscosity oils (5W30, 10W30 etc.) improve starting in cold weather, these multi-viscosity oils will result in increased oil consumption when used above 32°F. Check your engine oil level more frequently to avoid possible engine damage from running low on oil. Change the oil after every 25 hours of operation or at least once a year if the lawn mower is not used for 25 hours in one year. Check the crankcase oil level before starting the engine and after each five (5) hours of continuous use. Tighten oil plug securely each time you check the oil level TO CHANGE ENGINE OIL o Disconnect spark plug wire from spark plug and place wire where it cannot come in contact with spark plug.. o Be sure lawn mower is on level surface. o Oil will drain more freely when warm. = Catch oil in a suitable container = Remove bottom oil drain plug. ⢠After oil has drained completely, replace oil drain plug and tighten securely. o Refill engine with oil. LAWN MOWER TO ADJUST CU-I-RNG HEIGHT See "TO ADJUST CUTTING HEIGHT" in the Operation section of this manual REAR DEFLECTOR The rear deflector, attached between the rear wheels of your mower, is provided to minimize the possibility that objects will be thrown out of the rear of the mower into the operator mowing position. If the deflector becomes damaged, it should be replaced, DISCHARGE GUARD The discharge guard attached to the discharge opening of your lawn mower, is provided to prevent the possibility of injury resulting from objects being thrown out of the discharge opening into the operator mowing position. Handles are shipped mounted in the medium low position o To change from medium low to medium high position, the upper and lower handle sections will have to be turned over. o Remove the controls and operator presence control bar from the upper handle. o Remove the starter rope guide from the lower handle. o Remove hairpin cotters o Disconnect the lower handle from the handle bracket& o Tum the handle over and reassemble the hairpin cotters that have been removed, o Reassemble the starter rope guide. ° Reassemble the controls and the operator presence control bar to the upper handle. CAUTION: The operator presence control bar must pivot freely to permit blade brake engagement when control bar is released. Do net overtighten the fasteners holding the controls to the upper handle.
o To change from medium low to high position only the upper handle section will have to be tumed over. ° To change from medium low to low position, only the lower handle section will have to be tumed over_ Medium low Medium High __ow Squeeze to remove Lower handle Mounting bracket Hairpin clip ENGINE CARBURETOR Your carburetor has a non-adjustable fixed main jet for mixture control. If your engine does not operate properly due to suspected carburetor problems, take your lawn mower to an authorized service center for repair and adjustment. ENGINE SPEED The engine speed has been factory seL Do not attempt to increase engine speed as it may result in personal injury. If you believe the engine is running too fast or too slow, take your lawn mower to an authorized service center for repair and adjustment. Immediately prepare your lawn mower for storage at the end of the season or if the unit will not be used for 30 days or more. LAWN MOWER When lawrl mower is to be stored for a peded of time, clean it thoroughly, remove all dirt, grease, leaves, etc_ Store in a clean, dry area. o Clean entire lawn mower (See "CLEAN- ING" lt] the Customer Responsibilities section of this manual)_ o Lubricate as shown in the Customer Responsibilities section of this manual. = Be sure that all nuts, bolts, screws, and pins are securely fastened. Inspect moving parts for damage, breakage and wear. Replace if necessary. = Touch up all rusted or chipped paint surfaces; sand lightly before painting. HANDLE You carl fold your lawn mower handle for storage. ,, Squeeze the bottom ends of the lower handle toward each other until the lower handle dears the handle bracket, then move handle fonNard. o Loosen upper handle mounting bolts enough to allow upper handle to be folded back. IMPORTANT: When folding the handle for storage or transportation, be sure to fold the handle as shown or you may damage the control cables. ° When setting up your handle from the storage position, the lower' handle will automatically lock irrto the mowing position. ENGINE FUEL SYSTEM iMPORTANT: It is important to prevent gum deposits from forming in essential fuel system parts such as carburetor, fuel filter, fuel hose, or tank during storage Also, experience indicates that alcohol blended fuels (called gasohol or using ethanol or methanol) can attract moisture which leads to separation and formation of acids during storage. Acidic gas can damage the fuel system of an engine while in storage o Drain the fuel tank. o Start the engine and let it run until the fuel lines and carburetor are empty. o Never use engine or carburetor cleaner products in the fuel tank or permanent damage may occur ,, Use fresh fuel next season NOTE: Fuel stabilizer is an acceptable alternative in minimizing the formation of fuel gum deposits during storage. Add stabilizer to gasoline in fuel tank or storage container, Always follow the mix ratio found on stabilizer container, Run engine at least 10 minutes after adding stabilizer to allow the stabilizer to reach the carburetor Do not drain the gas tank and carburetor if using fuel stabilizer, TROUBLESHOOTING CHART ENGINE OIL Drain oil (with engine warm) and replace with clean engine oil (See "ENGINE" in the Customer Responsibilities section of this manual). CYLINDER o Remove spark plug Pour one ounce (29 ml) of oil through spark plug hole into cylinder, o Pull starter handle slowly a few times to distribute oil o Replace with new spark, plug. OTHER ', Do not store gasoline from one season to another. ,, Replace your gasoline can if your can starts to rest, Rust and/or dirt in your gasoline will cause problems ⢠tf possible, store your unit indoors and cover it to give protection from dust and dirt. o Cover your unit with a suitable protective cover that does not retain moisture. Do not use plastic Plastic cannot breathe which allows condensation to form and will cause your unit to rust. IMPORTANT: Never cover mower while engine and exhaust areas are still warm CAUTION: Never store the lawn mower with gasoline in the tank inside a building where fumes may reach an open flame or spark. Allow the engine to cool before storing in any enclosure.
