In order to use air pr oduced by this com pre ssor for br eathi ng, sui tab le filters and in-line safety equipment must be properly installed. In-line filters and safety equipment used in conjunction with the compres - sor must be cap abl e of tre ating air to al l app lic able lo cal and fe der al codes prior to human consump - tion.

6 - ENG N014212  • Over inflation of tires could result in serious injury and property damage. • Use a tirepressur e gauge to check  the tires pressur e befor e each use and while inflating tires; see the tire sidewall for the correct tire pressure.  Air tanks, compressors and simi - lar equipment used to inflate tires can fill small tires similar to these v er y rapidly . Adjust pressure regulator on air supply to no more than the rating of the tire pres - sure. Add air in small increments and fre - quently use the tire gauge to pre vent ov er inflation. The low pr essu r e at whic h the moto r aut omat ica lly re start s is called "cut-in" pressur e.     When an air com - pr esso r is turn ed on and beg in s to run, air pressur e in the air tank begins to bu ild . It buil ds to a ce rt ain high pressur e before the motor automati - cal ly shut s of f, pro tect ing your air ta nk fr om pr essur e high er than its cap ac ity . The high pressur e at which the motor shuts off is called "cut-out" pressur e.   Circuit carrying elec- tricity from electrical panel to outlet.  This air compressor pump is capable of running continuously . However , to prolong the life of your air compressor , it is recommended that a 50%-75%
10 - ENG N014212 ASSEMBL Y  1. Remove unit from carton and discard all packaging. INST ALLA TION   • Locate the air compressor in a clean, dry and well ventilated area. • The air compressor should be located at least 12" (30.5 cm) away from the wall or other obstructions that will interfere with the flow of air . • The air compressor pump and shroud are designed to allow for proper cooling. The ventilation openings on the compressor are necessary to maintain proper operating temperature. Do not place rags or other containers on or near these openings.                                            The portable air compressor is equipped with a cord having a grounding wir e with an appropriate grounding plug (see following illustrations). 1. The cord set and plug with this uni t con tains a gr oun ding pi n. This plug MUST be used with a grounded outlet.    The outl et bein g use d mus t be in sta lled an d gr ound ed in acc ord ance wit h al l loc al co des and or dina nces. 2. Mak e sur e the ou tle t be ing used has the same configuration as the gr ound ed plug. DO NOT USE AN ADAPTER. See illustration.   Outlets  3. 11 - ENG N014212 Extension Cords If an exte nsio n cor d mus t be used , be sure it is: • a 3-w ir e ext ens ion cor d tha t has a 3-b lad e gr ound ing plu g, and a 3-s lot re cep tacl e that wi ll acc ep t the plug on the product •  in good condition •  no longer than 50 feet •  14 gauge (A WG) or lar ger . (Wire siz e i ncr eas es a s g aug e n umb er dec rea ses. 12 A WG and 10 A WG may a ls o be use d. DO NOT USE 16 OR 18  A WG.) The use of an und ersiz ed extension cord will cause voltage to dr op re sulti ng in powe r los s to the mot or and ove rh eat ing. In ste ad of using an extension cord, increase the working reach of the air hose by att achin g ano ther leng th of hose to its end . Att ach add iti onal leng ths of hos e as needed.    Refer to the specification chart for the vol tage an d min imu m bra nch cir cui t requir ements.    Cer tain ai r                 con ditio ns are met . 1. V oltage supply to circuit must comply with the National Electrical Code. 2. Circuit is not used to supply any other electrical needs. 3. Ext ensio n cor ds co mpl y wit h specifications. 4. Circuit is equipped with a 15 amp cir cui t br eake r or 15 am p tim e delay fuse.  If compressor is co nne cted to a ci r cuit pr otec ted by fuses, use only time delay fus es. Tim e del ay fu ses shou ld be marked "D" in Canada and "T" in the US. If an y of the abov e con di tio ns cann ot be met, or if operation of the compres - sor re peate dly cau ses inte rrupt ion of the power , it may be necessary to ope rate it fro m a 20 amp cir cuit . It is not necessary to change the cord set.
12 - ENG N014212 controlled by the regulator and is always less than or equal to the tank pressur e.  Controls the air pressur e shown on the outlet pressur e gauge. T ur n regulator knob clockwise to increase pressur e and counterclockwise to decrease pressur e.     This compressor contains an advanced design cooling system. At the heart of this cooling system is an engineered fan. It is perfectly normal for this fan to blow air through the vent holes in lar ge amounts. Y ou know that the cooling system is working when air is being expelled.     Com pre sses air int o the air tan k. W ork in gair isnotava il ab leun til  the com pre ssor has rai sed the ai r tan k pr essu re abo ve that req uir ed at the air outlet.    Drain   The drai n val ve is located at the base of the air tank and is used to drain condensation at the end of each use.  Become familiar with these controls before operating the unit.  Place this switch in the On (I) position to pr ovid e automatic power to the pressur e switc h and Of f (O) to r emov e power at the end of each use.      The pressur e switch automatically starts the motor when the air tank pressur e drops below the factory set "cut-in" pressur e. It stops the motor when the air tank pressur e reaches the factory set "cut-out" pressur e.    If the pressure switch does not shut off the air compressor at its "cut-out" pressur e setting, the safety valve will protect against high pressur e by "popping out" at its factory set pressur e (slightly higher than the pressur e switch "cut-out" setting).      The tank pressur e gauge indicates the reserve air pressur e in the tank.      The outlet pressur e gauge indicates the air pressur e available at the outlet side of the regulator . This pressur e is OPERA TION   READ THIS OWNER’S MANUAL AND SAFETY RULES BEFORE OPERA TING  YOUR UNIT . 13 - ENG N014212      When the air  com pre ssor is op era ting , the chec k valve is "open", allowing compressed air to enter the air tank.  When the air compressor reaches "cut-out" pr essu re, the che ck valv e "cl ose s", all owing air pr ess ur e to rem ain ins ide the air tank.        The motor has an automatic reset thermal overload protector . If the motor overheats for any reason, the overload protector will shut off the motor . The motor must be allowed to cool down before restarting. The compressor will automatically restart after the motor cools.   1. Set the On/Off switch to "Off" .        uni t unt il you r ead            mai ntena nce ins tru ctio ns.                              This procedur e is requir ed  th e air comp res sor is put into serv ic e and whe n the chec k va lve or a comp le te compressor pump has been replaced. 1. Make sure the On/Off switch is in the "Off" position. 2. Plug the power cord into the correct branch circuit receptacle. (Refer to        Protection paragraph in the Installation section of this manual.) 3. Open the drain valve (counter - clockwise) fully to permit air to escape and prevent air pressur e build up in the air tank during the break-in period. 4. Move the On/Off switch to "On" position. The compressor will start. 5. Run the compressor for 15 min- utes. Make sure the drain valve is open and there is minimal air pressur e build-up in tank. 6. After 15 minutes, close the drain valve by turning clockwise. The air receiver will fill to "cut-out" pressur e and the motor will stop. The compressor is now ready for use.  1. Set the On/Off switch to "Off". 2. T ur n the regulator knob counter - clockwise to set the outlet pressur e to zero. 3. Bef ore star ting co mpr ess or , pul l the ring on the safety valve to make sure that the safety valve operates freely . If the valve is st uck or doe s not oper ate smo othly , it must be re pl ac ed wi th the same type of valve. Set the On/Off switch to "Off". 2. T ur n the regulator knob counter - clockwise to set the outlet pressur e to zero. 3. Remove the air tool or accessory . 4. Pul l rin g on sa fet y va lve allo wing air to ble ed fr om the tank unti l tan k pr essu re is ap pr oxim ately 20 PSI. Release safety valve ring. 5. Dra in wate r fr om air tan k by ope ning dr ain valv e on bott om of tank.      W ate r wil l con de ns e                       1. Set the On/Off switch to "On" and allow tank pressur e to build. Motor will stop when tank pressur e reaches "cut-out" pressur e. 2. T urn re gul ator kn ob cl ock wise to increase pressur e and stop when desired pressur e is r eached.                          The compressor is ready for use.
15 - ENG N014212         1. Release all air pressur e from air tank. See T o Drain T ank in the Maintenance section. 2. Unplug unit. 3. Rem ove the hose by re mov ing the hose clamp.  The hos e clamp is not reusable. Y ou must pur cha se a new hos e cla mp, see the Pa rts List or pur cha se a sta ndar d hose cl amp at a loca l hardwar e store.    Hose  4. Unscrew the check valve (tur n cou nter -c loc kwise ) us ing a sock et wrench. 5. Mak e sur e the va lve dis c mov es fr eely insi de the che ck valv e and the spri ng hold s the disc in the upp er , clo sed pos iti on. The chec k valve may be cleaned with a sol vent, such as pai nt and varni sh remover .  ALL MAINTENANCE AND REP AIR OPERA TIONS NOT LISTED MUST BE PERFORMED BY TRAINED SERVICE TECHNICIAN.                                                           6. App ly seal ant to the chec k val ve threads. Reinstall the check valve (turn clockwise). 7. Rep lace ho se an d new hose clamp. 8. Per form th e Br eak-i n Pr oced ure . See   in the Operation section.   1. Release all air pressur e from air tank. See T o Drain T ank in the Maintenance section. 2. Unplug unit. 3. Using an adjustable wrench r emove the saf ety val ve fro m the regulator manifold.                            6. After the water has been drained, clo se the dra in valv e. Th e air compressor can now be stored.  If dr ain valv e is pl ugg ed, release all air pressur e. The valve can then be re move d, cl ean ed, the reinstalled.

Using an adjustable wrench remove the regulator manifold. 8. App ly pipe seal ant to new regulator manifold and assemble, tighten with wrench. 9. Reapply pipe sealant to safety val ve. 10. After the water has been drained, clo se drai n val ve by turnin g clo ckwis e.  If drain valve is plugged, release all air pr essure. The valve can then be removed, cleaned, then reinstalled. 8. Pr otect the electrical cord and air hose from damage (such as being stepped on or run over). Wind them loosely aroundthe compressor handle. 9. Sto re the air co mpr ess or in a clean and dry location.
