Insertin g a digita l card CAUTION To pre vent damag e to the di gital car d connec tors, use mi nimal fo rce to insert a dig ital card. 1. Hold the d igital card labe l-si de up, with th e connec tors fa cing the comp uter. 2. Gently sli de the card i nto the Me mory Reader u ntil t he card is s eated. You will hear a sound when th e dev ice has been d etecte d. Stopping and removin g a digit al ca rd CAUTION To prevent los s of data or an unres ponsi ve system , stop a digita l card be fore removin g it. 1. Close al l file s and appli catio ns tha t are as socia ted wi th the digital card. NOTE To stop a d ata trans fer, cli ck Cancel in th e oper ating sy stem Copyi ng win dow. 2. Stop t he digital card: a. Doubl e-cl ick t he Safely Remove Hardware icon in th e notifi cation area, at the far right of the taskbar. NOTE To display the Safely Remo ve Hardware i con, click t he Show Hi dd en Ic ons icon ( < or << ) in th e notif ication area. b. Click the di gital c ard lis ting. c. Clic k St op . 3. 2 Using ExpressCards An Expres sCard is a next-gen eratio n, high-per form ance PC Card that is in serte d into the E xpressC ard slot. Like stan dard PC Cards , ExpressCar ds are desig ned to conform to the standard sp ecifi cation s of the Perso nal Computer Memor y Card Inter nationa l Associ ation (P CMCIA). Configuri ng an ExpressCard Install only the softwar e requir ed for y our devi ce. If yo u are in structed by the Ex pressC ard man ufactur er to instal l devic e driver s: â Install o nly th e devic e dri vers for your opera ting s ystem. â Do not inst all oth er softwa re, s uch as card servic es, soc ket ser vices, or enabl ers, supplied by th e Express Card manufa cture r. 4 Chapter 2 Us ing Exp ressCar ds ENWW
Inserting an Exp ressC ard CAUTION To prev ent dam age to the comp uter and external media c ards, d o not i nsert a n Expre ssCard into a PC Ca rd slot or a PC Card into a n Exp ressCard slot. CAUTION To prevent dam age to the con nectors: Use mi nimal force w hen insert ing an Exp ressC ard. Do n ot move o r trans port the compu ter wh en an ExpressCa rd is in use . The Ex pressCa rd slot may contain a prot ective in sert. The inser t must be r emoved before you c an inser t an Expr essC ard. To rele ase and remov e the protecti ve inser t: 1. Press in on the insert (1) to unl ock it. 2. Pull the i nsert out o f the slo t (2) . To i nsert an E xpre ssCard: 1. Hold the card lab el-side up, with the conne ctors faci ng the compute r. 2. Gently sl ide the card i nto the Expres sCard s lot u ntil the card is se ated. You will hear a sound when t he dev ice h as been detecte d. NOTE The first time you inse rt an Expres sCard, th e âFoun d New H ardwar eâ mes sage i s display ed in the notificat ion area , at the far right of the task bar.
