If another cord is used, use only a po wer source and connection appropriate for this monitor . For information on the correct po wer cord set to use with your monitor , refer to the “Po wer Cord Set Requirements” section in Appendix C. Safe t y and Maintenance Guidelines Ä CAUT I ON: F or the pro tection o f your mo nitor , as w ell as yo ur compute r , connect all po we r cords f or yo ur computer and its per ipheral de vi ces (suc h as a monitor , printe r , scanner) to so me form of sur ge pro tection de v ice such as a po w er stri p or Uninterru ptible P o wer Su pply (UP S) . Not all po wer s trips pr o vide sur ge pr otectio n; the pow er strips must be sp ecifically lab ele d as having th is abi lit y . Use a po w er strip w hose man ufactur er offer s a D amage Replaceme nt P olic y so you can r eplace y our equipment if sur ge prot ection f ails. Main ten ance G ui delin es T o enhance the performance and extend the life of your monitor: ■  Do not open your monitor cabinet or attempt to service this product yourself. Adjust only those controls that are cov ered in the operating instructions. If your monitor is not operating properly or has been dropped or damaged, contact your HP authorized dealer , reseller , or service provider . ■  Use only a po wer source and connection appropriate for this monitor , as indicated on the label/back plate of the monitor . ■  Be sure the total ampere rating of the products connected to the outlet does not exceed the current rating of the electrical outlet, and the total ampere rating of the products connected to the cord does not exceed the rating of the cord. Look on the po wer label to determine the ampere rating (AMPS or A) for each de vice. ■  Install your monitor near an outlet that you can easily reach. Disconnect the monitor by grasping the plug f irmly and pulling it from the outlet. Ne ver disconnect the monitor by pulling the cord. ■  T urn your monitor off when not in use. Y ou can substantially increase the life expectanc y of your monitor by using a screen sa ver program and turning of f the monitor when not in use. 2–2 User G uid e
Safe t y and Maintenance Guidelines ■  Slots and openings in the cabinet are provided for v entilation. These openings must not be blocked or co vered. Ne ver push objects of any kind into cabinet slots or other openings. ■  Do not drop your monitor or place it on an unstable surface. ■  Do not allo w anything to rest on the po wer cord. Do not walk on the cord. ■  K eep your monitor in a well-ventilated area, aw ay from excessi ve light, heat or moisture. ■  When removing the monitor base, you must lay the monitor face do wn on a soft area to pre vent it from getting scratched, defaced, or brok en. C leanin g t h e Monitor 1. T urn of f the monitor and the computer . 2. Unplug the monitor from the wall outlet. 3. Clean the monitor plastics with a clean cloth dampened with wate r . 4. Clean the monitor screen with an antistatic screen cleaner . Ä CAUT I ON: Do not use be nz ene, thinner , ammonia , or an y other v olatile substance s to clean y our monitor or the sc reen . Thes e chemi cals may damage the cab inet f inish as well a s the scr een. Shipp ing t h e Monitor K eep the original packing box in a storage area. 3 Set tin g U p t h e Monitor T o set up the monitor , ensure that the power is turned of f to the monitor , computer system, and other attached de vices, then follo w the steps below . Installin g t he Monitor P edestal T o install the monitor pedestal: 1. Place the pedestal plate on your desktop or table and check to be sure the arro w on the underside of the plate is facing forward. ✎ Do not install the base if the monitor will be used on a wall, swing arm, or other mounting f ixture; instead see the section on “Mounting the Monitor” in this chapter . Setting Up the Monito r 2. Using both hands, position the monitor ov er the pedestal base and press do wn firmly to lock the pedestal base in place. Setting Up the Monitor Conn ec tin g t he Monitor 1. Place the monitor in a con venient, well-ventilated location near your computer . 2. Connect the monitor signal cable on the back of the monitor to the video connector on the rear panel of the computer . Å W AR NING: T o redu ce the risk of elec tri c shock or damage to y our equipment: ■  Do not disable the po w er cor d grounding plug . The gr ounding plug is an important safety featur e . ■  P lug the pow er cor d into a gr ounded (earthed) electr ical outlet that is easil y accessible at all time s. ■  Disconnec t pow er fr om the monitor b y unplugging the po we r cor d fro m the electri cal outlet. ■  Do not place an ything on po we r cords or cable s. Setting Up the Monitor 4. Adjust the monitor as needed for your comfort using the monitor’ s tilt adjustment capability . T ilting the Monitor 5. Press the power switch to turn on the monitor . Ä CAUT I ON: Burn-in image damage may occ ur on monitors that displa y the same static image on sc reen f or a pr olonged peri od of time . T o av oi d burn -in image damage on y our monitor sc reen , y ou should alw ay s acti vate a sc r een sav er applicati on or turn off the monitor w hen it is not in us e for a pr olonged per iod of time . Setting Up the Monito r Rem o vi n g t h e M o ni to r B a s e Y ou can remov e the monitor base to mount the monitor on a wall, a swing arm, or other mounting f ixture. Read the Caution and W arning statements belo w before beginning the procedure. Ä CAUT I ON: Befo re beginning to disas semble the monitor , be sur e the monitor is tur ned off and the po wer and si gnal cables ar e both disconnec ted. If y our monitor has a connec ted audio cable , disc onne ct it. Ä CAUT I ON: Do not re mov e the base fr om the monitor w hile the monitor is in the u prigh t position . La y the fr ont bez el do wn on a s oft ar ea to pre vent it f ro m getting scr atc hed, def aced, or br ok en. 1. R emov ing the Monitor Base Ä CAUT I ON: Ensur e that the bottom of the monit or base is positi oned o ver a table o r desktop befo re r emov ing the bas e fro m the monitor . 4. Remo ve the monitor base 3 from the monitor . Mountin g t h e Monitor 1. Remove the monitor base. Refer to “Remo ving the Monitor Base” steps in the pre vious section. After the base is remov ed from the monitor , four threaded mounting holes are exposed on the monitor back panel to be used for mounting purposes. These mounting holes are 100mm apart and are compliant with the V ideo Electronics Standards Association (VESA) standard for mounting flat panel displays. User Gui de 3–7
Setting Up the Monito r Ä CAUT I ON: This monitor su pports the VES A industry standard 100mm mounting hole s. T o at tach a thir d part y mounting soluti on to the monitor , fo ur 4mm, 0.7 pit ch, and 10mm lo ng scr ew s ar e r equired (no t pro vi ded with the monitor ) . Lo nger scr e ws should not be used beca use the y may damage the moni to r . It is important to ver ify that the manufac turer ’s mounting soluti on is complian t with the VE S A standar d and is rat ed to suppor t the w eigh t of the monitor displa y panel . F or best perfo rmance , it is important to use the po w er and v ideo cable pr ov ided w ith the monitor . 2. Mount the monitor to a swing arm or other mounting f ixture by follo wing the instructions included with the mounting f ixture to be used. Locatin g t h e Ratin g Labels The rating labels on the monitor provide the spare part number , product number , and serial number . Y ou may need these numbers when contacting HP about your monitor model. The rating labels are located on the left and right sides of the monitor pedestal. 3–8 User Gu ide
4 O peratin g t he Monitor Soft w are an d Utiliti es The monitor includes a CD that contains two f iles you can install on your computer: ■ an .INF (Information) f ile ■ an .ICM (Image Color Matching) f ile Adobe Acrobat Reader is supp lied on this CD and can be installed from the menu. ✎ If the monitor does not include a CD, the .INF and .ICM f iles can be do wnloaded from the HP m onitors support W eb site. See “Do wnloading from the W orldwide W eb” in this chapter . The Inf orm a tion File The .INF f ile enables the computer to communicate with the monitor and use all the monitor features. The .INF f ile defines monitor resources used by Microsoft W indo ws operating systems to ensure monitor compatibility with the computer’ s graphics adapter . This monitor is W indo ws Plug and Play compatible and the monitor will work correctly without installing the .INF f ile. Monitor Plug and Play compatibility requires that the computer’ s graphic card is VESA DDC2 compliant and that the monitor connects directly to the graphi cs card. Oper ating the Monitor work through separate BNC type connectors or through distrib ution buf fers/boxes. Y ou may need to install the .INF f ile if these conditions are not met. The Ima ge C ol or Ma tc hin g File The .ICM f ile provides accurate color representation. The .ICM f iles are data files that are used in conjunction with graphics programs to provide consistent color matching from monitor screen to printer , or from scanner to monitor screen. The .ICM f ile contains a monitor color system profile. This f ile is activ ated from within graphics programs that support this feature. ✎ The ICM color prof ile is written in accordance with the International Color Consortium (ICC) Prof ile Format specif ication. Installin g t h e .I NF and .I CM Files After you determine that you need to update, you can install the .INF and .ICM f iles from the CD or download them. Installin g from th e CD T o install the .INF and .ICM files on the computer from the CD: 1. Insert the CD in the computer CD-R OM driv e. The CD menu displays. 2. V iew the “INF and ICM Readme” f ile. 3. Select “Install INF and ICM Files. ” 4. Follo w the on-screen instructions. 5. After the INF software has been installed, restart W indo ws. 4–2 User Gu ide

Ensure that the proper resolution and refresh rates appear in the W indo ws Display control panel. ✎ Y ou may need to install the digitally signed monitor .INF and .ICM f iles manually from the CD in the ev ent of an installation error . Refer to the INF and ICM Readme file on the CD. Do wnloading from the W orl dw ide W eb T o download the latest v ersion of .INF and .ICM files from the HP monitors support W e b site: 1. Refer to ht tp://ww w .hp .com/support and select your country region. 2. Follo w the links for your mon itor to the support page and do wnload page. 3. Ensure your system meets the requirements. 4. Oper ating the Monitor Adjus ting Monitor Set ting s Use the On-Screen Display (OSD) to adjust the screen image based on your vie wing preferences. T o access the OSD, do the follo wing: 1. If the monitor is not already on, press the Po wer switch to turn on the monitor . 2. T o access the OSD Menu, press the Menu button on the monitor’ s front panel. 3. T o navigate through the OSD Menu, press the (Plus) b utton on the monitor’ s front panel to scroll up, or the – (Minus) b utton to scroll in rev erse. 4. T o select an item from the OSD Menu, use the or – buttons to scroll to and highlight your selection, then press the Menu b utton to select that function. 5. Adjust the item using the or – buttons on the front panel to adjust the scale. User Gui de 4–5

After adjusting the function, select Sav e and Return, or Cancel if you don’ t want to sav e the setting, then select Exit from the Main Menu. ✎ If the b uttons remain untouched for 10 seconds while displaying a menu, ne w adjustments will be di scarded and the settings will re vert to pre vious settings and exit the menu. Using t he O n -Sc reen Dis pl a y There are two On-Screen Display menus a v ailable; one for basic adjustments, and one for adv anced adjustments. T o access the Basic OSD Menu, press the menu button on the monitor's front panel. Oper ating the Monitor The Adv anced OSD Menu has up to three sublev els and can be vie wed in one of six av ailable languages. Oper ating the Monitor For more precise adjustments, run the Adjustment P attern provided on the CD and use the Clock and Clock Phase controls (accessible from the OSD menu) as described in the follo wing section. Optimizin g Di gital Conv ersion This monitor contains adv anced circuitry that allows the flat panel screen to function like a standard monitor . T wo controls in the on-screen display can be adjusted to improv e image performance: Clock and Clock Ph ase. Use these controls only when the auto-adjust function does not provide a satisf actory image. ✎ The Clock must f irst be set correctly since the Clock Phase settings are dependent on the main Clock setting. ■  Clock—Increase/decrease the v alue to minimize any v ertical bars or stripes visible on the screen background. ■  Clock Phase—Increase/decrease the v alue to minimize video distortion or video jitter . ✎ When using the controls, you will obtain the best results by using the Auto-Adjustment pattern application provided on the CD. ✎ When adjusting the Clock and Clock Phase v alues, if the monitor images become distorted, continue adjusting the v alues until the distortion disappears. Oper ating the Monitor Id entif ying Monitor C onditions Special messages will appear on the monitor screen when identifying the follo wing monitor conditions: ■  Input Signal Out of Range— Indicates the monitor does not support the input signal because the resolution and/or refresh rate are set higher than the monitor supports. For 15” monitors, set the resolution and refresh rate to 1024 x 768 at 60 Hz. For 17” and 19” monitors, set the resolution and refresh rate for 1280 x 1024 at 60 Hz. Restart your computer for the ne w settings to take ef fect. ■  Monitor Going to Sleep— Indicates the screen display is entering a sleep mode. ■  Check V ideo Cable— Indicates the video cable is not properly connected to the computer . ■  OSD Lock—The OSD can be enabled or disabled by pressing and holding the Menu b utton on the front panel for 10 seconds. If the OSD is locked, the w arning message “OSD Lock” displays for ten seconds. ❏  If the OSD is locked, press and hold the Menu b utton for 10 seconds to unlock the OSD. ❏  If the OSD is unlocked, press and hold the Menu b utton for 10 seconds to lock the OSD. Sleep Tim er Mode The Sleep T imer mode is an ener gy-saving feature that enables you to set a time for the monitor to po wer on and off at the same time e very day . Scroll do wn and highlight Management. 3. Press the Menu button to select Management. 4. Scroll do wn and highlight and select Sleep T imer > Set Current T ime. ✎ Y ou must set the current local time before you reset the time for Sleep T ime or On T ime. Note that the time is displayed in a 24 hour clock format. For e xample, 1:15 p.m. displays as 13 hours 15 minutes. 5. Press the Menu b utton once to enter the adjustment mode for hours. 6. Press the - (Minus) or (Plu s) buttons to adjust the hour . 7. Press the Menu button again to enter the time for minutes. 8. Press the - (Minus) or (Plus) b uttons to adjust the minutes. 9. Press the Menu button to lock in the time chosen. 10. After setting the current time, the highlight automatically skips to Set Sleep T ime hours. Repeat steps 6 through 9 to set Sleep T ime. 11. If you do not want to set Sleep T ime, press the Menu button twice, then select Sa ve and Return to exit the menu. 12. The f ifth selection, Sleep Now , turns the monitor backlights of f immediately and stays in sleep mode until the next On T ime acti vates or a monitor b utton is pressed. HP Disp l ay Lite S av er HP Display LiteSa ver is a softwa re application, a vailable on the CD, that increases monitor life and sa ves energ y . It allows you to place your monitor into its lo w power sleep mode at predef ined times by shutting do wn or reducing po wer to most internal circuits. This helps protect the LCD panel against image retention. Image retention can occur when the monitor is left on while displaying the same image for an extended period of time, lea ving a shadow of the image on the screen. If this occurs, you may need to re adjust the parameters of the monitor screen by using the on-screen display . Y our changes can be made to any or all of these modes and sa ved in memory . The monitor automatically stores the ne w setting, then recognizes the ne w mode just as it does a preset mode. T echnical S pecif icati ons Energy Sav er F ea ture When the monitor is in its normal operating mode, the monitor uses less than 40 watts of po wer and the Po wer light is green. The monitor also supports a reduced po wer state. The reduced po wer state will be entered into if the monitor detects the absence of either the horizontal sync signal and/or the vertical sync signal. Upon detecting the absence of thes e signals, the monitor screen is blanked, the backlight is turned of f, and the Po wer light is turned amber . When the monitor is in the reduced po wer state, the monitor will utilize less than 2 watts of po wer . There is a brief warm up period before the monitor will return to its normal operating mode. Refer to your computer manual for instructions on setting energ y sa ver features (sometimes calle d po wer management features). ✎ The abov e energy sa ver feature only works when connected to computers that ha ve energy sa ver features. By selecting settings in the monitor’ s Energ y Sav er utility , you can also program the monitor to enter into the reduced po wer state at a predetermined time. If you need to obtain a po wer cord for a different country , you should purchase a po wer cord that is approv ed for use in that country . The po wer cord must be rated for the product and for the voltage and current marked on the product's electrical ratings label. The v oltage and current rating of the cord should be greater than the v oltage and current rating marked on the product. In addition, the cross-sectional area of the wire must be a minimum of 0.75 mm² or 18A WG, and the length of the cord must be between 6 feet (1.8 m) and 12 feet (3.6 m). If you ha ve questions about the type of po wer cord to use, contact your HP authorized service provider . D L CD Monitor Q ualit y and P ix el P o licy The TFT monitor uses high-precision technology , manufactured according to HP standards, to guarantee trouble-free performance. Ne vertheless, the display may ha ve cosmetic imperfections that appear as small bright or dark spots. This is common to all LCD displays us ed in products supplied b y all vendors and is not specif ic to the HP LCD. These imperfections are caused by one or more defecti ve pixels or sub-pix els. ■  A pixel consists of one red, one green, and one blue sub-pixel. ■  A defecti ve whole pix e l is alw ays turned on (a bright spot on a dark background), or it is alw ays off (a dark spot on a bright background). The f irst is the more visible of the two. ■  A defecti ve sub-pix el (dot defect) is less visible than a defecti ve whole pix el and is small and only visible on a specif ic background. The HP display does not ha ve more than: ■  3 bright dots. ■  5 dark dots. ■  5 total bright and dark dots. ■  No more than two adjacent (less than 2.5 mm edge-to-edge) defecti ve pix els.
