If another cord is used, use only a po wer source and connection appropriate for this monitor . F or information on the correct power cord set to use with your monitor , refer to the “Po wer Cord Set Requirements” section in Appendix C. Main tenan ce G uid elines T o enhance the performance and e xtend the life of your monitor: ■ Do not open your monitor cabinet or attempt to service this product yourself. Adjust only those controls that are cov ered in the operating instructions. If your monitor is not operating properly or has been dropped or damaged, contact your HP authorized dealer , reseller , or service provider . ■ Use only a po wer source and connection appropriate for this monitor , as indicated on the label/back plate of the monitor . ■ Be sure the total ampere rating of the products connected to the outlet does not exceed the current rating of the electrical outlet, and the total ampere rating of the products connected to the cord does not exceed the rating of the cord. Look on the po wer label to determine the ampere rating (AMPS or A) for each de vice. ■ Install your monitor near an outlet that you can easily reach. Disconnect the monitor by grasping the plug f irmly and pulling it from the outlet. Ne ver disconnect the monitor b y pulling the cord. ■ T urn your monitor off when not in use. Y ou can substantially increase the life expectanc y of your monitor by using a screen sa ver program and turning of f the monitor when not in use.
Saf ety and Maintenance Guidelines Use r Guide 2–3 ■ Slots and openings in the cabinet are provided for v entilation. These openings must not be blocked or co vered. Ne v er push objects of any kind into cabinet slots or other openings. ■ Do not drop your monitor or place it on an unstable surface. ■ Do not allo w an ything to rest on the po wer cord. Do not w alk on the cord. ■ K eep your monitor in a well-ventilated area, a way from excessi v e light, heat or moisture. ■ When removing the monitor base, you must lay the monitor face do wn on a soft area to pre v ent it from getting scratched, defaced, or brok en. C leanin g t he Monitor 1. T urn off the monitor and the computer . 2. Unplug the monitor from the wall outlet. 3. Clean the monitor plastics with a clean cloth dampened with wate r . 4. Clean the monitor screen with an antistatic screen cleaner . Ä CA UTION: Do not use benz ene , thinne r , ammonia, or an y other vo latile substance s to clean y our monit or or the sc r een. T hese chemi cals may damage the ca binet f inish as w ell as the sc r een . Shipp ing t h e Monitor K eep the original packing box in a storage area. Y ou may need it later if you mov e or ship your monitor .

3–2 User Gui de Setting Up the Monitor Po w e r C o r d Be sure the po wer cord is the correct type required in your region. This LCD monitor has an internal uni versal po wer supply that allo ws operation in either 100/120V A C or 220/240V A C v oltage area (No user adjustment is required.) ✎ A certif ied po wer supply cord has to be used with this equipment. The rele v ant national installation and/or equipment regulations shall be considered. A certif ied po wer supply cord not lighter than ordinary polyvinyl chloride fle xible cord according to IEC 60227 (designation H05VV -F 3G 0.75mm2 or H05VVH2-F2 3G 0.75mm2) shall be used. Alternati ve: a fle xible cord of synthetic rubber according to IEC 60245 (designation H05RR-F 3G 0.75mm2) shall be used. Conn ec ting t h e Monitor 1. Connecting the signal cable : Connect one end of the signal cable into the LCD monitor's so cket, the other end into the computer's VGA port, and tighten the tw o scre ws on the cable connector . 2. Connecting the power cord: Connect one end of the A C-po wer cord into the LCD monitor's A C input socket, the other end into the wall outlet. Ä CA UTION: If the A C outlet is not gr ounded (w ith thr ee hole s) , install the pr oper gr ounding adapte r (not supplied). 3. Connecting the audio line: Connect one end of an audio cable into the computer's multimedia (or sound) card's audio output, and the other end into the monitor's audio input.
Setting Up the Monitor Use r Guide 3–3 Adjustin g t he Vie w ing An gl e ■ For optimal vie wing, it is recommended that you look at the full face of the monitor , then adjust the monitor's angle to your o wn preference. ■ Hold the stand so you do not topple the monitor when you change the monitor's angle. ■ Y ou are able to adjust the monitor's angle from -5 o to 20 o . 1 VGA I n p u t 2 AC I n p u t s o c ke t 3 Audi o Input
3–4 User Gui de Setting Up the Monitor Ä CA UTION: Do not touch the LCD screen when you change the angle. It may cause damage or break the LCD screen. Careful attention is required not to catch your f ingers or hands when you change the angle.

By changing these settings, the picture can be adjusted to your personal preference. ■ The po wer cord should be connected. ■ Connect the video cable from the monitor to the video card. ■ Press the po wer b utton to turn on the monitor . 4–4 User Gui de Oper ating the Monitor Ho w T o Ad just a Setting 1. Press the MENU-b utton to acti v ate the OSD windo w . 2. Press < or > to na vigate through the functions. Once the desired function is highlighted, press the MENU-b utton to acti v ate it. If the function selected has a sub-menu, press < or > again to na vigate through the sub-menu functions. Once the desired function is highlighted, press MENU-b utton to acti v ate it. 3. Press < or > to change the settings of the selected function. 4. T o e xit and sav e , select the e xit function. Oper ating the Monitor Use r Guide 4–7 Soft w are and Utilities The monitor includes a CD that contains two f iles you can install on your computer: ■ an .INF (Information) f ile ■ an .ICM (Image Color Matching) f ile Adobe Reader is supplied on this CD and can be installed from the menu. ✎ If the monitor does not include a CD, the .INF and .ICM f iles can be do wnloaded from the HP m onitors support W eb site. See “Do wnloading from the W orldwide W eb” in this chapter . Th e In fo rm a t io n Fi l e The .INF f ile defines monitor resources used b y Microsoft W indo ws operating systems to ensure monitor compatibility with the computer’ s graphics adapter . 4–8 User Gui de Oper ating the Monitor This monitor is W indo ws Plug and Play compatible and the monitor will work correctly without installing the .INF f ile. Monitor Plug and Play compatibility requires that the computer’ s graphic card is VESA DDC2 compliant and that the monitor connects directly to the graphi cs card. Plug and Play does not work through separate BNC type connectors or through distrib ution b uf fers/box es. Y ou may need to install the .INF file if these conditions are not met. Th e I m a g e C o l o r M a t c h i n g Fi l e The .ICM f iles are data files that are used in conjunction with graphics programs to provide consistent color matching from monitor screen to printer , or from scanner to monitor screen. The .ICM f ile contains a monitor color system profile. This f ile is acti v ated from within graphics programs that support this feature. ✎ The ICM color prof ile is written in accordance with the International Color Consortium (ICC) Prof ile Format specif ication. Installin g t he .I NF an d .I CM Files After you determine that you need to update, you can install the .INF and .ICM f iles from the CD or do wnload them. Installin g from th e CD T o install the .INF and .ICM f iles on the computer from the CD: 1. Insert the CD in the computer CD-R OM driv e. The CD menu displays. 2. V iew the “INF and ICM Readme” f ile. 3. Select “Install INF and ICM Files. ”

Ensure that the proper resolution and refresh rates appear in the W indo ws Display control panel. ✎ Y ou may need to install the digitally signed monitor .INF and .ICM f iles manually from the CD in the e vent of an installation error . Refer to http://ww w .hp.co m/support and select your country region. 2. Follo w the links for your mon itor to the support page and do wnload page. 3. Ensure your system meets the requirements. 4. Do wnload the software b y follo wing the instructions. Pl u g a n d Pl ay Pl u g & Pl ay D D C 2 B Fe a t u r e This monitor is equipped with VESA DDC2B capabilities according to the VESA DDC ST AND ARD. It allo ws the monitor to inform the host system of its identity and, depending on the le vel of DDC used, communicate additional information about its display capabilities.
4–10 Use r Guide Oper ating the Monitor The DDC2B is a bidirectional data channel based on the I²C protocol. The host can request EDID information ov er the DDC2B channel. THIS MONIT OR WILL APPEAR TO BE NON-FUNCTION AL IF THERE IS NO VIDEO INPUT SIGN AL. IN ORDER FOR THIS MONIT OR TO OPERA TE PR OPERL Y , THERE MUST BE A VIDEO INPUT SIGN AL. This monitor meets the Green monitor standards as set by the V ideo Electronics Standards Association (VESA) and/or the United States En vironmental Protection Agency (EP A) and The Swedish Confederation Employees (NUTEK). This feature is designed to conserve electrical ener gy b y reducing po wer consumption when there is no video-input signal present. When there is no video input signal this monitor , follo wing a time-out period, will automatically switch to an OFF mode. This reduces the monitor's internal po wer supply consumption. After the video input signal is restored, full po wer is restored and the display is automatically redrawn. The appearance is similar to a "Screen Sa ver" feature e xcept the display is completely of f. The display is restored by pressing a k ey on the k eyboard, or clicking the mouse.

T he LED should either tur n ON or OFF after pr essing the C aps L ock k e y .
A–2 User Gui de T rou bleshooting CLOCK (pixel frequenc y) controls the number of pix els scanned by one horizontal sweep. If the frequenc y is not correct, the screen sho ws vertical stripes and the picture has not correct width. FOCUS adjusts the phase of the pixel clock signal. W ith a wrong phase adjustment the picture has horizontal disturbances in light picture. For FOCUS and CLOCK adjustment use “dot-pattern” or W indo ws shut-do wn mode pattern. If the connector is loose, tighten the connector's scre ws. 2) Check the signal-cable's connection pins for damage. Input Not Supported - Y our computer has been set to an unsuitable display mode. Set the computer to display a mode listed in the “Factory Preset Display Modes” table in Appendix B of this guide. Miss ing one of the primary colors (RED , GREEN, o r BL UE) Inspect the monit or's v ideo cable and be sur e that none of the p ins ar e bent . If this occurs, you may need to re adjust the parameters of the monitor screen by using the on-screen display . Y our changes can be made to any or all of these modes and sa v ed in memory . The po wer cord must be rated for the product and for the v oltage and current marked on the product's electrical ratings label.
