For information on the corr ect po wer cord set to use with your monitor , refer to the âPo wer Cord Set Requirementsâ section in Appendix C. Mai ntena nce Guideli nes T o enhance th e performance a nd e xtend the life of your monito r: â Do not open your monitor cab ine t or attempt to service this product yourself. Adjust only th ose controls that are cov ered in the operating instructions. If your monitor is not operating properly or has been dropped or damaged, co ntact your HP authorized dealer , reseller , or service provider . â Adjust only those controls that are discuss ed in the operating instructions. â Use only a po wer so urce and connection app ropriate for this monitor , as indicated on the label/back plate of the monitor . â Be sure the total ampere rating of the products connected to the outlet does not e xceed the cu rrent rating of the electrical outlet, and the total ampere rati ng of the pro ducts connected to the cord does not e xceed the rating of the cord. Look on the po wer label to determine the ampere rating (AMPS or A) for each de vice. â Install your monitor near an ou tlet that you can easily reach. Disconnect the monitor b y grasp ing the plug f irmly and pulling it from the outlet. Ne ve r disconnect the monitor b y pulling the cord.
Saf ety and Maintenance Guideline s Us erâs Guid e 2â3 â T urn your monitor of f when not in use. Y ou can substantially increase the life expectancy of your monitor b y using a screen sa ver program and turning of f the monitor when not in use. â Unplug your monitor from the wa ll outlet before cleaning. Do not use liquid cleaners or aerosol cleaners. Us e a damp cloth for cleaning. If the screen requires additional cleaning, use an antistatic screen cleaner . Ã CAUT ION: Do not use benz ene, thinner , ammonia, or an y o ther vo latile substances t o clean y our monitor or the sc r een . Thes e c hemicals ma y damage the cabinet f inish as w ell as the sc r een. â Slots and openings in the cabinet are pro vided for ventilation. These openings mu st not be blocked or cov ered. Ne ver push objects of any kind into cabinet slots or oth er openings. â Do not drop you r monitor or place it on an unstable surf ace. â Do not allo w an ything to rest on the po wer cord. Do not walk on the cord. â K eep your monitor in a well-v entilated area, a way from e xcessiv e light, heat or moisture. â When remo ving the monitor base, yo u mu st lay the monitor face do wn on a soft area to pre vent it from getting scratched, defaced, or broken.

Dust the monitor b y wiping the screen and the cabine t with a soft, clean cloth. If the screen requires additional cleaning, use a clean cloth dampened with isopropyl al cohol. Ã CAUT ION: Do not use benz ene, thinner , ammonia , or any v olatile subs tance to clean the monitor sc r een or cabinet . T hese c hemicals ma y damage the monitor . Ne v er use w ate r to clean an L CD sc r een. Sh ippi ng the Mo nit or K eep the original packing box in a storage area. Y ou may need it later if you mo ve or ship your monitor .
Us erâs Guid e 3â1 3 Set ting U p t h e Monitor T o set up the monitor , ensure that the po wer is turned of f to the monitor , compute r system, and other attached de vices, then follo w these steps: 1. Place the monitor in a con ven ient, well-ventilated location near your compu ter . 2. Connect one end of the monitor signal cable to the video connector on the rear panel of the computer , and the other end to the back of the monitor . â The D VI-D cable supplied w ith this monitor is for digital-to-digital connection only . Y our computer must hav e a D VI-compatib le graphics card inst alled for use with this cable. When connecting the D VI-D signal cable to the D VI connector on the monitor , you must connect the other end of the D VI-D cable to the D VI connector on the computer .

Adjust the monitor as need ed for your comfort usin g the monitorâ s tilt, swi vel, and height adjustment capabilities. â Y ou can change your monitorâ s vie wing position to portrait. T o rotate your display to the portrait position, you will need to install the Pi v ot software, which is contained on the CD included with your monitor .

T he gr ounding plug is an important saf ety featur e . P lug the po w er co r d into a gr o unded (earthed) electr ical o utlet that is easil y accessible at all times . Disconnec t pow er fr om the monitor b y unplugging the po w er cor d fr om the e lectr ical o utlet . Do not place anything on po w er cor ds or cable s. A rr ange them so t h a t n o o n e m a y a c ci d e n t a l ly s t e p o n o r t ri p ov e r t h e m . D o n o t p u l l o n a cor d or cable . When unplugging f r om the electr ical outlet , gr asp the cor d b y the plug. Ã CAUT ION: Burn-in image damage may occur on mo nitors that display the same static image on scr een for a pr olonged period of time . T o av oid bur n -in image damage on y our monitor sc r een , yo u should alw a ys ac tiv ate a sc r een sav er applicati on or turn off the monitor w hen it is not in use f or a pr olonged per iod o f time . Selec tin g th e Signal C onnec tors and Cabl es There are two signal input connectors: one VGA connector and one D VI-I connector . The monitor will automatically determine which inpu ts ha ve v alid video signals. The inputs can be s elected through the On-Screen Display (OSD ) feature or by pressing the Signal Input 1 or 2 buttons on the monitor front bezel. The video mode supported b y the D VI-I connector is determined by t he video cable used. F or digital operation, use the D VI-D to D VI-D signal cable pro vided. F or analog operation, a D VI-A to V GA signal cable must be attached to the D VI-I input (not provided with the monitor).

Read the caution and warnin g statements belo w before be ginning the procedure. à CAUT ION: Befor e beginning to disas semble the monitor , be sure the monito r is tur ned off and the po wer a nd signal cables ar e both disconnected . La y the fr o nt bez el do wn on a soft ar ea to pre v ent it fr om gettin g sc rat ched , defaced , or br ok en à W ARN ING: Do not remo v e the bas e fr om the monito r while the monitor is in the upr i ght positi on . Bef or e r emo vi ng the monitor fr om the base , ensur e that the monito r is ly ing flat , fr ont bez el do w n, and that the base is set t o the maximum bas e ext ension . Attemp ting to r emo v e the monitor fr om the ba se w hile upri ght in the minimum base e xtensi on may r e sult in injury to the user . 1. Disconnect and remove the signal and po wer cables from the back of the monitor .

Ã CAUT ION: Ensur e that the bottom o f the monitor base is po sitioned o ver a t able or de sktop bef or e r emo v ing the base f r om the monitor . 3. Remov e the moni tor base from the monitor .
3â8 U serâs Gu ide Setting Up the Monitor Mountin g th e Monitor 1. Remov e the moni tor base. Re fer to âRemo ving the Monitor Baseâ steps in the prev ious s ection. When the base is remo v ed, fo ur threaded mounting holes are exposed on the monitor pane l to be used for mounting purposes. These mounting holes are spaced 100 mm apart and are compliant with the V ideo Electronics Standards Association (VESA) standard for mounting flat panel displays. 2. Mount the monitor to a swing arm or o ther mounting f ixture by follo wing the instructions included with the mounting f ixture to be used.
Us erâs Guid e 4â1 4 Op er at i ng the M o n i to r Installin g t he Informa tion Files The CD-R OM included with this monitor contains two information f iles to be installed on to your computer; an .INF f ile and an .ICM f ile. â The .INF f ile def ines monitor resources and pro vides specif ications us ed b y most operating systems to install support software for certain ha rdware de vices. The .INF f ile ensures monitor compatibility and optimization with your computerâ s graphics adapte r . IN F files are also do wnloadable by clicking on: http://www .hp.com/go/support and selecting the desired monitor . â The .ICM f ile pro vides color matchi ng consistency f rom monitor screen to printer a nd is acti v ated from within graphics programs that ha ve this feature. T o install these f iles on your computer , i nsert the Softwar e and Refer ence Library CD in your computer CD-R OM dri ve. When the CD menu laun ches, select â Install INF and ICM Filesâ and follo w the on-screen instructions.

Oper ating the Monito r Us erâs Guid e 4â3 Ad justing Mo nit or Settings Press the menu b utton on the front p anel of your monitor to v ie w the On-Screen Display (OSD) Menu . The Main Controls windo w pops up and you can make adjustments to yo ur monitorâ s v arious features. Use the left and right arro w ke ys in the menu wi ndo w to make your adjustment s. Using t he O n - Sc r een Dis pl a y The adjustments for screen settings are located in the on-screen display (OSD) menus. T wo OSD menu s are a v ailable; one for basic adjustments, and one for adv anced adjustments.
4â4 U serâs Gu ide Oper ating the Monitor T o access the Basic OSD Menu, press the menu b utton on the monitor's front panel. T o access the A dv anced OSD Menu , pres s the menu button again, or select Adv anced Menu from the Basic OSD Menu. â After selecting the Adv anced Menu from the Basic Menu, the Adv anced Menu remains th e default OSD on sub sequent po wer -ups of the monitor until the Basic Menu is selected or Factory Reset is applied. The Adv anced OSD Menu has up to tw o suble v els an d can be vie wed in one of six a v ailabl e languages. Oper ating the Monito r Us erâs Guid e 4â7 Ad justing Screen Qu al ity Allo w the monitor to warm up fo r 20 minutes before performing the following procedures. The Auto-adjustment feature auto matically f ine-tunes the image quality each time a ne w video mode is utilized. If additional improv ement is desired, select the Auto-adjust control on the front bezel. Fo r more precise adjustments, use the adjustment pattern provided on the CD-R OM, and adjust the clock and phase settings (accessed from the OSD menu) as described in the follo wing section. Optimizin g An alog Vid eo This monitor contains adv anced circuitry that allo ws the flat panel screen to function like a stan dard monitor . T wo controls in the on-screen display can be adjusted to impro ve image performance: Cloc k and Clock Phas e. Use these controls only when the auto-adjust functi on do es not provide a satisfactory image. â The Clock must f irst be set co rrectly since the Clock Phase settings are dependent on the main Clock setting. â ClockâIncrease/decrease the v alu e to minimize any v ertical bars or stripes visible on the screen background. â Clock PhaseâIncrease/de crease the v alue to minimize video distortion o r video jitter . â When using the co ntrols, you will obtain the best results b y using the adjustment pattern applica tion pro vided on the CD-R OM.
4â8 U serâs Gu ide Oper ating the Monitor â When adjusting the Clock and Cloc k Phase v alues, if the monitor images become distorted, contin ue adjusting the v alues until the distortion disappears. T o restore the factory settings, select Y es from the Factory Reset menu in the on-screen display .

Bâ4 U serâ s Guide T echnical S pec ifi cations Enterin g User Modes The video con troller signal may oc casionally call for a mode that is not preset if: â Y ou are not using a standard graphics adapter . â Y ou are not using a preset mode. If this occurs, you ma y need to readjust the parameters of the monitor screen b y using the on -screen display . Y our changes can be made to any or all of these modes and sa ve d in memory . The monitor automatically stores the ne w setting, then recognizes the ne w mode just as it does a pres et mode. In addition to t he 16 fact ory preset modes, there are four user modes that can be entered and stored. Energy Sav er Feature When the monitor is in its normal operating mode, the moni tor uses less than 40 watts of powe r and the Po wer light is green. The monitor also supports a re duced po wer state. The reduced po wer state will be entered into if the monitor detects the absence of either the horizontal sync signal and/or the vertical sync signal. Upon detecting th e absence of thes e signals, the monitor screen is blanked, the backlight is turned of f, and the Po wer light is turned amber . When the monitor is in the reduced po wer state, the monitor will utilize less than 2 wa tts of po wer . There is a brief warm up period before the monitor will return to its normal operating mode. Refer to your computer manual fo r instructions on setting energy sa ver features (sometimes called po wer management features). â The abov e ener gy sav er feature only works when connected to computers that ha ve ener gy sa ver features.

Do not use liquid cleaners or aerosol cleaners. Us e a damp cloth for cleaning. If the screen requires additional cleaning, use an antistatic screen cleaner . Us erâs Guid e 3â1 3 Set ting U p t h e Monitor T o set up the monitor , ensure that the po wer is turned of f to the monitor , compute r system, and other attached de vices, then follo w these steps: 1. Place the monitor in a con ven ient, well-ventilated location near your compu ter . 2. Connect one end of the monitor signal cable to the video connector on the rear panel of the computer , and the other end to the back of the monitor . â The D VI-D cable supplied w ith this monitor is for digital-to-digital connection only . Y our computer must hav e a D VI-compatib le graphics card inst alled for use with this cable. When connecting the D VI-D signal cable to the D VI connector on the monitor , you must connect the other end of the D VI-D cable to the D VI connector on the computer .

Selec tin g th e Signal C onnec tors and Cabl es There are two signal input connectors: one VGA connector and one D VI-I connector . The monitor will automatically determine which inpu ts ha ve v alid video signals. The inputs can be s elected through the On-Screen Display (OSD ) feature or by pressing the Signal Input 1 or 2 buttons on the monitor front bezel. The video mode supported b y the D VI-I connector is determined by t he video cable used. F or digital operation, use the D VI-D to D VI-D signal cable pro vided. The Auto-adjustment feature auto matically f ine-tunes the image quality each time a ne w video mode is utilized. If additional improv ement is desired, select the Auto-adjust control on the front bezel. Fo r more precise adjustments, use the adjustment pattern provided on the CD-R OM, and adjust the clock and phase settings (accessed from the OSD menu) as described in the follo wing section. Optimizin g An alog Vid eo This monitor contains adv anced circuitry that allo ws the flat panel screen to function like a stan dard monitor . T wo controls in the on-screen display can be adjusted to impro ve image performance: Cloc k and Clock Phas e. Bâ4 U serâ s Guide T echnical S pec ifi cations Enterin g User Modes The video con troller signal may oc casionally call for a mode that is not preset if: â Y ou are not using a standard graphics adapter . â Y ou are not using a preset mode. If this occurs, you ma y need to readjust the parameters of the monitor screen b y using the on -screen display . Y our changes can be made to any or all of these modes and sa ve d in memory . The monitor automatically stores the ne w setting, then recognizes the ne w mode just as it does a pres et mode. In addition to t he 16 fact ory preset modes, there are four user modes that can be entered and stored. Energy Sav er Feature When the monitor is in its normal operating mode, the moni tor uses less than 40 watts of powe r and the Po wer light is green. The monitor also supports a re duced po wer state. The reduced po wer state will be entered into if the monitor detects the absence of either the horizontal sync signal and/or the vertical sync signal. Upon detecting th e absence of thes e signals, the monitor screen is blanked, the backlight is turned of f, and the Po wer light is turned amber . When the monitor is in the reduced po wer state, the monitor will utilize less than 2 wa tts of po wer . There is a brief warm up period before the monitor will return to its normal operating mode. Refer to your computer manual fo r instructions on setting energy sa ver features (sometimes called po wer management features). â The abov e ener gy sav er feature only works when connected to computers that ha ve ener gy sa ver features.
