If the touchscreen is no t responding to tou ch, check y our serial or USB connection by doing the following: â Serial Connection - Run the comd ump diagnostic utility to determin e if the touchscreen, the serial touch controller, the computer's serial COM port and the associated cablin g are connec ted and functioning properly. Do wnload the late st vers ion of comdump.exe (7K) from the Elo Web site Driver and Files Download pag e. You should save th e file where it can be acce ssed easily - either to a fl oppy or to the root of your hard d rive. Co mdump is a DOS application, so if you are running one of the Windows operating systems you must eith er boot to a DOS boot diskette or disable th e driver so you can access the COM port fro m a command prompt. â USB Connect ion - If th e Human Inte rface Device (HID) is not listed in De vice Manager after a USB touchmonitor is connected, check to determine if a file named mo uhid.sys is in the \windows (or winnt) \system32\drivers folder. ⦠The file will be missing if a USB mous e has ne ver been conn ected to the system. ⦠If the file is not there, connect a USB mouse to the syst em or copy mouhid.sys from another system. ⦠Once mouhid.sys is in the proper location, remove and reinstall the touch drivers. If you have dete rmined that the HID file s are missing or corrupted ("Er ror installing mou se" when installing the HID dri vers, and also a yel low "!" in Device Manager under Mouse ), check that all of the following files are present in the \\winnt\system32\ drivers folder: ⦠Hidusb.sys ⦠Hidclass.sys ⦠Hidparse.sys ⦠Mouhid.sys If all the files are there, try replacing them wi th the same files from a known good system. It is suggested that you save the original files in a backup di rectory. The touch can no t be held longe r than 10 seconds. IntelliTouch co ntrollers have a built-in two minute untouch time-out. By default, the 4.20 Un iversal dr i ver generates an untouch after 10 second s of constant touch. The untou ch time-out can be cha nge d by modifying a registry key. This time-out will override any registry time-out valu e if the registry val ue exceeds 120 seconds (120000 milli seconds). To change th e time-out time: 1. Run regedit or regedt32 (cli ck Start > Ru n , enter regedit ). 2. Drill down to HKEY_LOCAL_MA CHINE > SYSTEM > CurrentC ontrolSet > Enum . a. For serial controllers: SERENUM > ELOSERIAL > ******* > Device Parameters . b. For USB controllers: HID > VID_04e7 > ******** > ******** ********* > Device Para meters . NOTE: The "******" entries are id numbers us ed by the Windows operat ing system. 3. Double-click the UntouchT imeOut key. The Edit DWORD Value dialog box opens. 4. Click the Decimal radio button. Va lue displays in decimal (default: 10000). 5. Enter the delay time in millis econds, 60000 is 60 seconds. 18 Appendix A Troubleshoo ting ENWW
6. Exit regedit when done. 7. Shut Down and r estart the machine. A re start is required before the setting will take effect. A cursor is not visible. To make the cursor visible, first, open Control Panel > Elo Touchscr een > Mode tab. Ch eck if the Hide arro w mouse pointer box is checked; if yes, un-check it and click OK. If a mouse is not instal led on the compu ter, Shut Down the computer, install a mouse, then restart the computer. The curso r should now be visible. Yo u ma y then Shut Down and remove the mouse, or leave it connected, as desired. If connecting multiple mon itor systems, all monitors must b e configured to have independent reso lution control (as in two mon itors, each at 1024 x 786 re solution), rath er than a single, large desktop (as in 2048 x 768). Multiple individual video cards a re automatically set up as individual mon itors. Some multiport video cards can be configured either way; in this case, the video driver must be set up properly. Once the multiport video has been properly co nfigur ed, the Elo Universal driver should be remove d and reinstalled. Some mul tiport video cards can only be co nfigured as a single large desktop , and they will not work with Elo's multip le monitor driver setup. D Native Resolution The native resolutio n of a monitor is the re solution level at which the LCD pa nel is designed to perform best. The native reso lution is 1024 x 768 for the 1 5 inch size. In almost a ll cases, screen images look best when viewed at their native resolution. You can lo wer the resolution se tting of a monitor but not increase it. Input Video 15â LCD 640 x 480 (VGA\S) Transforms input format to 1024 x 7 68 800 x 600 (SVGA) Transforms input format to 1024 x 7 68 1024 x 768 (XGA) Disp lays in Native Resolution The native resolu tion of an LCD is the actual number of pixels horizont ally in the LCD by the numb er of pixels vertically in the LCD. LCD resolution is usually repres ented by the following symbo ls: VGA 640 x 480 SVGA 800 x 600 XGA 1024 x 768 SXGA 1280 x 1024 UXGA 1600 x 1200 As an example, a SVGA resolution LCD p anel has 800 pixels horizon tally by 600 pixels vertically. Input video is also represented by the same terms. XGA input vide o has a format of 1024 pixels horizontally by 768 pixels ve rtically. When the in put pixels co ntained in the video input forma t match the native resolution of th e panel, there is a one to one corre spondence of mappin g of input video pixels to LCD pixels. As an example, the pi xel in column 45 and row 26 of the input video is in column 45 and row 26 of the LCD. For the case when the input vide o is at a lower resolution than the native re solution of the LCD, the direct correspondence between the video pixe ls and the LCD pixels is lost. The LCD controller can compute the correspondence b etween video pixels and LCD pixels using algorithms contained o n its controller. The accuracy of the al gorithms determine s the fidelity of conversion of vide o pixels to LCD pixels. Poor fide lity conversion ca n result in artifa cts in the LCD displayed image such as varying width characters. 32 Appendix D Native Resolution ENWW
