1 Product Features HP LP3065 The flat pa nel monitor has an active ma trix, thin-film transistor (TFT), liquid crystal display (LCD). 2 Safety and Maintenance Guidelines Important Safety Information A power cord is include d with the monitor. If ano ther cord is used, u se only a power source and connection app ropriate for this monitor. For informat ion on the co rrect power cord set to use wi th the monitor, refer to the Power Cord Se t Requirements section in Appendix C. WARNING ! To reduce the risk of elec tric shock or damage to the equipment: • Do not disable the power cord grounding feature. The ground ing plug is an impo rtant safety feature. • Plug the power cord in a grounded (earth) ou tlet th at is easily a ccessible at all times. • Disconnect power from the produ ct by unplugging the power cord fro m the electrical ou tlet. For your safety, do not place anything on powe r co rds or cables. Arrange them so that no one may accidentally step on or trip over them. Do n ot pull on a cord or cable . When unplugging fro m the electrical o utlet, grasp the cord by the plug. To reduce the risk of serious injury, re ad the Safety and Comfort Guide. It describ es proper workstation, setup, posture, and heal th and work habits for co mputer users, an d provides important electrical an d mechanical safe ty info rmation. CAUTION For the protection of the monitor, as well as the compu ter, connect all power cords for the computer and its peripheral devices (such as a monitor, printer, scanne r) to some form of surge protection device such as a power stri p or Uninterrup tible Power Supply (UPS). Not all power strips provide surge prot ecti on; the power strip s must be sp ecifically labeled as having this ability. Use a power strip whose manufacturer offers a Damage Re placement Policy so you ca n replace the e quipment, if surge protection fa ils. 2 Chap ter 2 Safety and Main tenance Guidelines ENWW
Maintenance Guidelines To enhance th e performance and ex tend the life o f your monitor: ● Do not open yo ur monitor cabinet or atte mpt to service this product yourself. Adjust only those controls that are covered in th e operating instruct ions. If yo ur monitor is not operating properly or has been dropped or damaged, contact your HP au thorized dealer, reseller, or service provid er. ● Use only a power source and connection appropriate for this monitor, as in dicated on the label/ back plate of the moni tor. ● Be sure the total ampere rating of the produ cts connected to the o utlet does not exce ed the curre nt rating of the electrical outlet, an d the total ampere rating o f the products connected to th e cord does not exceed the rating of the cord. Look on the powe r label to determine the ampere rating (AMPS or A) for each device. ● Install your moni tor near an outlet that yo u can easily rea ch. Disconnect the monito r by grasping the plug firmly and pullin g i t from the outlet. Never disconne ct the monitor by pulling the cord. ● Turn your monitor off when n ot in use. You can substantially incr ease the life expectancy of you r monitor by u sing a screen saver p rogram and turning off the m onitor when n ot in use. ● Slots and openings in the cabinet are p rovided for ventilation. These openings must not be blocked or covered. Never push objects of any ki nd into cabinet slots or other openings. ● Do not drop yo ur monitor or place it on a n unstable surface. ● Do not allow anything to rest on the power cord. Do not walk on the cord. ● Keep your monito r in a well-ventilated area, away from excessive light, heat or moisture. ● When removing the monitor base, yo u must lay the monitor face down on a soft a rea to preve nt it from getting scratched , defaced, or broken. Cleaning the Monitor 1. Turn off the moni tor and the compu ter. 2. Unplug the mo nitor from the wall outlet. 3. Clean the monito r plastics with a clean cloth dampened wi th water. 4. Clean the monito r screen with an antistatic screen cleaner. CAUTION Do not use benzene, thinner, a mmonia, or any other volatile substances to clean your monitor or the screen. These chemicals may damage the cabinet finish as well as the screen. Shipping the Monitor Keep the original packing box in a storage area. You ma y need it later if y ou mo ve or ship your monitor. 3 Setting Up the Monitor To set up the monitor, ensure that the power is turn ed off to the monitor, co mputer system, and other attached de vices, then follow the instructions be low. NOTE Be sure the master power switch, located on th e rea r panel of the monitor, is in the o ff position. The master po wer switch turns off all power to the mo nitor. Installing the Monitor Pedestal Base NOTE Do not install the pedestal if the monitor will be used on a wall, swing arm, or other mounting fixture; instead see the section on Mounting the Monit or in this chapter. 1. Using both hands, posi tion the monitor o ver the pedestal base. CAUTION Do not touch the surface of the LCD pa nel. Pressure on the panel may caus e non-uniformity of color or diso rientation of the liquid crystals. If this occurs the screen w ill not recover to its normal condition. 2. Press down firml y on the monito r to lock the pedesta l base in place. When the base locks, it will make a clicking sound. NOTE Be sure the pedestal base is securely locked be fore continuing with the setup. Selecting the Signal Connectors and Cables The monitor fe atures two DV I-D dual-link connectors capa ble of supp orting high resolu tion digital inpu t. NOTE The high resolution of the monitor requires a dual-link DVI-D inp ut signal. The monitor can only display a 25 60 x 1600 resolution; therefore, the computer must support a hi gh- performance video card that is cap able of scaling all video modes to 2560 x 1600. The monitor does not supp ort a VGA (analog) video signal input. Connect one of the DVI-D signal cables provided to the DVI-D connector on the monitor and the other end to the DVI-D connector on th e computer. The monitor will a utomatically determine which i nputs have valid vi deo signals. T he inputs can be selected by pressing t he Input button on the front panel. Connecting the Monitor 1. Place the monitor in a convenient, well- ventila ted location n ear your comp uter. 2. Connect on e end of th e USB hub cable to the USB connector on the rear panel of the comp uter, and the other en d to the upstream USB co nnector on th e monitor. Figure 3-4 Connecting the USB Cabl e WARNING ! To reduce the risk of electric shock or damage to the equipment: • Do not disable the power cord grounding featu re. The grounding pl ug is an important safety feature. • Plug the power cord in a grounded (earth) ou tlet that is easily accessible at all times. • Disconnect power from the pro duct by unpluggin g the power cord from the electrical outlet. For your safety, do not place anything on power cords or cables. Arran ge them so that no one may accidentally step on or trip over them. Do no t pull on a cord or cable . 3. Connect one end of the p ower cable to the AC p ower connector on the back of the moni tor, and the other en d to an electric al wall outlet. Figure 3-5 Connecting the Power Cable 4. 3. Adjust the monitor's height so that it is parallel to your eye height for a comforta ble viewing position. Turning on the Monitor 1. Press the power switch to turn on the computer. 2. Press the master po wer switch on the rear of the LCD. 3. Press the power button on the front of the monitor. CAUTION Burn-in image damage may occur o n monitors that display the same static image on screen for a prolong ed period of time.* T o av oid burn-in im age damage o n your monitor screen, you should always activate a screen saver applicatio n or turn off the mon itor when it is not in use for a prolonged period of time. Imag e retention is a condi tion that may occur on a ll LCD screens. * A prolonged period of ti me is 12 conse cutive hours of non-us e. Connecting USB Devices The monitor provides four USB conne ctors on the side panel to connect device s such as a digital camera, USB keyboa rd, or USB mouse. NOTE You must connect the USB hub cable from t he monito r to the computer t o enable th e USB 2.0 ports on the monitor. Refer to Step 2 in Connecting the Mo nitor . Figure 3 -10 Conn ecting USB Devices Using the Accessory Rails The monitor features accessory rails on the rea r th at ma y be used to moun t optional devices, su ch as the HP speaker bar, to attach to the LCD. Refer to the documentation included with your optional device for detailed mounti ng instructions. ENWW Turning on the Monitor 11
Figure 3-11 Using the Accessory Rails Feature Removing the Monitor Pedestal Base You can remove the monito r pedestal to mount the mo nitor on a wall, a swing arm, or ot her mounting fixture. CAUTION Before beginning to disassemble the mon itor, be sure the monitor is turn ed off and the power and signal cab les are both disconnecte d. If yo ur monitor has a connected audio cable, disconnect it. 1. Disconnect and remo ve the signal and po wer cables from the back of the monitor. 2. Slide the quick re lease latch (1) on the pedesta l base to the side (either right or left). 3. Pull up on the monitor displa y head (2) to remove it from th e base. Mounting the Monitor 1. Remove the monitor pedestal base. Refer to Removing the Monito r Pedestal Base in the previous section. CAUTION This monitor supports the VESA industry standard 100mm mounting holes. To attach a third party mounting solution to the mon itor, four 4mm, 0.7 p itch, and 10mm long screws are required (n ot provided with th e monitor). Longer screws should not be used because they ma y damage the mon itor. It is im portant to verif y t hat the manufacturer’s mounting solution is compliant with the VESA st andard and is rated to support the weight of the monitor display pane l. For best perfor mance, it is important to use the power an d video cable provided with the monitor. 2. Remove the HP Quick Relea se from the pedestal ba se by removing the four screws. 3. Mount the Quick Rele ase to a swing arm or othe r mounting fixture using the four screws remove d from the Quick Release in the previous step. Figure 3-14 Installi ng the Quick Releas e CAUTION The Quick Release can also be install ed directly to a wall to mou nt the monitor panel. It is designe d to support a maximum of up to 24 lbs. (10.9 kg). If you are moun ting to a wall, HP recommends tha t you consult with a qualified engineerin g, architect ural, or construction prof essional to determine the appr opriate type and qu antity of mounting fasteners required fo r your app lication and to ensure that your mounting solu tion is properly installed to su pport applied load s. 4. Insert the monitor into the Quick Relea se, and then press down firmly on the monitor to lock it in place. When the Quick Release lock s, it will make a clicking sound. Locating the Rating Labels The rating labels on the monitor pro vide the spare part number, product nu mber, and serial number. You may need th ese numbers when contactin g HP a bou t your monitor model. The ratin g labels are located on the re ar panel of the monitor di splay head. 4 Operating the Monitor Software and Utilities The CD that comes with the monitor conta ins files you ca n install on your comp uter: ● an .INF (Information) file ● an .ICM (Image Color Match ing) file ● additional software for the monitor model Adobe Reade r is supplied on this CD an d can be installed from the menu. NOTE If the monitor does not include a CD, the .INF and .ICM files can be downloaded from the HP moni tors support We b site. See Downloading from th e Worldwide Web in this chapter. The Information File The .INF file defines monitor reso urces used by Microsoft Windows ope rating systems to ensure monitor compatibility with the com puter’s graphi cs adapter. This monitor is Microsoft Windows Plug and Play co mpatible and the monitor w ill work correctly without installing the .INF file. Monitor Plug and Play compat ibility requires th at the computer’s graphic card is VESA DDC2 compliant and that the mo nitor connects directly to the graphics card. Plug and Play does not work through sepa rate BNC type con nec tors or through distri bution buffers/boxes. The Image Color Matching File The .ICM files are da ta files that are us ed in co njunction with graph ics programs to provide cons istent color matching from monitor scree n to printer, or fr om scanner to monitor screen. The .ICM file conta ins a monitor color system profile . This file is activated from within graphics programs that support this feature. NOTE The ICM color profile is written in accorda nce with the International Color Consor tium (ICC) Profile Form at specification. Installing the .INF and .ICM Files After you dete rmine that you nee d to update, you can in stall the .INF and .ICM files from the CD or download them. 16 Chapter 4 Ope rating the M onitor ENWW
Installing from the CD To install the .INF and .ICM files on the computer from the CD: 1. Insert the CD i n the computer CD-ROM d rive. The CD menu displays. 2. View the “Monitor Driver Software Readme” file. 3. Select “Install Monitor Driver Software.” 4. Follow the on-screen instructions. 5. After the software has been in stalled, restart Windows. 6. Ensure that the proper resolu tion and refresh rates appea r in the Windows Display control panel. NOTE You may need to install the digitally signed m onitor .INF and .ICM files ma nually from the CD in the event of an installa tion error. Refe r to the Monitor Driver Software Readme file on the CD. Downloading from the Worldwide Web To download the latest ve rsion of .INF and .ICM files from the HP monitors support Web site: 1. Refer to http://www.hp. com/ support and select your country region. 2. Follow the links for your mon itor to the support page an d download page. 3. Ensure your system me ets the requirements. 4. Download the software by fo llowing the instructions. Front Panel Controls Table 4-1 Monit or Front Panel Controls Control Function 1 Input Selects the video input (DVI-D #1, DVI-D #2, or DVI-D #3) 2 – (Minus) Reduces the brightness setting. 3 (Plus) Increases the brightness setting. 4 Power LED Sleep mode — amber Flashing green — non- supported video mode a nd when the brightness is being adjusted and the upper or lower limit has been reached Steady green — when monitor is displaying a suppor ted mode (LED automatically turns off after 30 seconds) 5 Power Turns the monitor on or off. NOTE The monitor does not support an On-Screen Display (OSD) menu. HP Display LiteSaver HP Display LiteSaver is a software application, av a ilable on the CD, tha t increases monitor life a nd saves energy. It allows you to place your monitor into its low power slee p mode at predefined times by shutting down or reducing powe r to most internal circu its. This helps protect the LCD panel a gainst image retention. Ima ge retention can occur when the monito r is left on while displayi ng the same image for an exte nded period of time, leaving a sh adow of the image on th e screen. Installing the HP Disp lay LiteSaver Software 1. Insert the CD in the com puter CD-R OM Drive. The CD menu displays. 2. Select Install HP Display LiteSaver Software . 3. After installing the software, click the HP Display LiteSaver icon in the Windows system tray or right-click the icon and select Configure... from the pop-up men u. 4. Select the following op tions to configure the HP Display LiteSaver features: Table 4- 2 HP Display Lit eSaver Configurat ion Options Select This Option To Do This Enable Display LiteSaver Enables the HP Display LiteSaver functions; des elect to dis able the HP Display LiteSav er. Display Off Sets the time when the monitor automatically turns off. This does not affect screen saver operation, which has priority over the HP Display LiteSave r. Display On Sets the time when the monitor automatically turns on. This does not affect scr een saver operation, which has priority over the HP Display LiteSave r. Activity Extension Sets the time in minutes before the moni tor turns off if there is any keyboard or mouse activity after the Display Off time is reached. If the key board or mouse is used, then HP Display LiteSaver waits until the set amount of time before turning the display off again. Set to 0 to disab le. Select This Option To Do This disabled, the monitor will turn off as soon as the Display Off time is reached, reg ardless of keyboard or mouse activity. Show 1 minute Display Off Notice Displays a popup message in the system tray 1 minute before the monitor is turned off b y HP Display LiteS aver. Status Shows the time until the monitor is next due to be turned off by HP Disp lay LiteSaver. OK Stores the current settings and minimizes HP Display LiteSaver to the System Tray. Cancel Restores the previous settings and minimizes HP Display Lite Save r to the System Tray. HP Display LiteSaver will continue to run. Help Opens the online help file. A Troubleshooting Solving Common Problems The following tabl e lists possible problems, the poss ible cause of each problem, and the recommended solutions. Problem Possible Cause Solution Screen is blank and no LED. No AC power. Connect the power cable con nections and make sure the master power switch is set to the ON position. HP Display LiteSaver doesn't turn off the monitor screen. The Activity Extension time has not elapse d. The default Activity Extension val ue is set to 10 minutes. The HP Display LiteSaver will wait to detect no input or movement from the keyboard or mouse for 10 consecut ive minutes after the Display Off time has passed, before the monitor enters into lo w-power mode. For example, if the Display Off time is set to 5 minutes from the current time and the Activity Extension is set to 10 minutes, the HP Display LiteSaver will not actually turn off the display until 10 minutes of inactivity has elapsed, even though the Displa y Off time is 5 minutes from now. No video displayed and flashing green LED. Video card must support dual-link DVI and the input signal must be set correctly. Set input signal to 2560 x 1600 at 60 Hz. Energy Saver Feature When the monitor is in its norma l operating mode, th e monitor uses <176 wa tt s of power and the Power light is green. The monitor also sup ports a reduced pow er state. The re duced power stat e will be entered in to if the monitor detects the absence of the signal. Upon de tecti ng the absence of the signa l, the monitor screen is blanked, the backlight is turned off, and the po wer lig ht is turned amber. Wh en the monitor is in the reduced power state, the monitor will utilize less than 2 watts of power. There is a brief warm up period before the monitor will return to its norm al operating mode.
