Create an Acti veSync connection between your computer and your iP A Q Pocket PC. Refer to the Getting Started booklet that came with your iP A Q Pocket PC for Acti veSync instructions. 2. Insert the Softwar e and Drivers CD that came with your Photosmart Mobile Camera into your computer . 3. Follo w the on-screen instructions to install the Photosmart software and dri vers. Conn ecting t he Photosmar t Mobile C amer a to Y our iP A Q P oc k et PC T o connect the Photosmart Mobile Camera to your iP A Q Pocket PC: 1. Locate the SD slot on your iP A Q Pocket PC and remov e any memory cards or other de vices. 2. Insert the Photosmart Mobile Camera until it is f irmly seated in the expansion card slot of your Pock et PC. 3. Y ou will hear an audible click when the Photosmart Mobile Camera is fully connected. Using the HP Photo smart Mobile Camer a User ’s Guide 2–3 Ta k i n g a P i c t u r e When you connect the Photosmart Mobile Camera, your iP A Q Pocket PC automatically turns on in Capture mode. When you see the camera’ s digital viewf inder on the screen of your iP A Q Pocket PC, you’ re ready to begin using yo ur Photosmart Mobile camera. Belo w are the components of the Capture mode screen. Component Function 1 Digital viewfinder Displa ys the picture currently framed by the camer a. Rotate the lens body on the Photosmart Mobile Camera to frame the subject you want to photograph in the digital vie wf inder . 2. Make sure that both you and your subject are still to ensure a clear image. 3. T ap the Shutter button to snap a picture. When you snap a picture, your iP A Q Pocket PC makes an audible shutter sound (if you ha ve not muted the sounds). The clock runs to indicate that the picture has been taken and your iP A Q Pocket PC is processing the picture. It may take a fe w seconds to process and store the picture, depend ing on its size, quality , and complexity . Immediately after capturing an image a pre vie w of the picture you just took appears so that you can decide to either discard or keep the image. ■ T o discard the image, follow the instructions on the screen and tap the pre vie w image while it is displayed. ■ T o sav e an image, simply wait for the pre v ie w to disappear from the screen and the camera application to return to the digital vie wf inder . 5 Image Zone button T ap to go to iP A Q Image Zone where all your captured pictures and recorded video clips are stored. 6 Shutter b utton T ap to snap a picture or star t/stop recording a video clip . 7 Camera status icons The top number is the number of pictures remaining, the stars indicate the image quality , the bottom number is the resolution, and the indicator on the left side of the screen shows the metering mode. 350444-001.book Page 4 Tuesda y, Sept ember 9, 2003 4: 07 PM
Using the HP Photo smart Mobile Camer a User ’s Guide 2–5 Using Di gital Z oom The digital zoom feature on the Photosmart Mobile Camera allo ws you to get closer to your subject without moving. T o zoom in to your subject, tap on the Zoom In icon in the digital vie wf inder windo w . When you use the digital zoom feature, your iP A Q Pocket PC will make an audible zoom sound (if you ha v e not muted the sounds), and the subject will appear closer in the vie wf inder . Note: Pictures you snap using the zoom feature may not be as sharp as other pictures. Be car eful to hold the camera steady when snapping zoomed pictures. After you aim the camera, wait a moment to steady it and to insure that automatic exposure has taken af fect. Recor ding a Vid eo Clip Recording a video clip is similar to capturing a still image. T o capture a video clip: 1. From the Command Bar , tap Mode > V ideo. 2. Rotate the lens body on the Photosmart Mobile Camera to frame the subject you want to record in the digital vie wfinder . 3. T ap the Shutter button to be gin recording your video. 4. T ap the Shutter button a second time to stop recording. T o return the Photosmart Mobile Camera to still image mode, from the Command Bar , tap Mode > Still. Vie wing P ic tur es and Video C lips Y ou can use iP A Q Image Zone to browse the pictures and videos you ha ve tak en and recorded. T o switch to iP A Q Image Zone, from the Command Bar , tap File > Play , or tap the Image Zone b utton in Capture mode. Disconne cting t he Photosm art Mobil e Cam er a T o disconnect the Photosmart Mobile Camera from your iP A Q Pocket PC: 1. Push the Photosmart Mobile Camera do wn into the iP A Q Pocket PC until you hear a click. 2. Pull the Photosmart Mobile Camera out of the Pocket PC. User ’s Guide 3–1 3 Using t he C amera Set ting s Cus tomizing t he Ca mer a Set ting s Besides simple “point-and-shoot” photography , your Photosmart Mobile Camera includes many other features. This section describes the features that allo w you to customize your camera settings for dif ferent photography en vironments. Features include: ■ Self-timer ■ Exposure settings (white balance, color settings, auto-exposure metering) ■ Compression settings ■ Resolution settings ■ Digital ef fects T o make changes to the camera settings: 1. T ap File > Menu. 2. Select the category that you w ould like to modify , then tap Change. 3. Choose the best setting from the list of options. 4. T ap OK to exit the Settings menu. Using the Camera Settings menu, you can modify many dif ferent aspects of the capture settings. Using the C amera S ettings User ’s Guide 3–2 White B al ance Adjusts the color balance in the image depending on the lighting conditions. The possible White Balance settings are: ■ Auto (default)—Automatically selects the best white balance for the shot. ■ Sun—Best for outdoor shots with natural lighting. ■ T ungsten—Best for indoor shots using incandescent lighting. ■ Fluorescent—Best for shots taken with fluorescent lighting. ■ None—Best for shots where one color (other than white) is pre v alent in the picture. Color Setti ngs Allo ws you to capture images with creati ve ef fects. Possible Color Settings are: ■ Full Color (default)—Standard color output. ■ Black & White—Grayscale image. ■ Negati ve—Produces a color ne gati ve of the image taken. Compr e ssio n Choose the picture quality from three compressions for the pictures you snap. Higher -quality pictures look better , especially at greater magnif ication. Lo wer-quality pictures require less storage space on your iP A Q Pocket PC, and may take less time when sending by e-mail or infrared. ■ Good ■ Better ■ Best (default) 350444-001.book Page 2 Tuesda y, Sept ember 9, 2003 4: 07 PM

Lar ger resolution size pictures require more storage space and may also take longer to process and send. ■ 1280 x 1024 pixels (def ault) ■ 1280 x 960 pixels ■ 640 x 480 pixels ■ 320 x 240 pixels Auto -Exposure Meterin g Auto-exposure (AE) metering determines ho w to measure the brightness of an image. ■ Center -weighted (default)—Measures the brightness of the entire picture, with emphasis on the large area in center of a scene. ■ A verage—The entire scene is used to calculate exposure. Setting Up Other F eatur es Confi guring Ins tant Re vie w Instant Re vie w allo ws you to see a pre vie w of the image you just captured to quickly determine whether you want to k eep or discard the image. T o set the time period for Instant Revie w: 1. T ap File > Menu > Setup tab . 2. Select Instant Review from the list, then tap Change. 3. Using the C amera S ettings User ’s Guide 3–4 Using t he Self- Timer The Self-T imer allows you to set a short delay before a picture is snapped. Use this feature when you want to be in your o wn pictures. T o set the timer: 1. T ap File > Menu > Setup tab . 2. Select Self-T imer from the list, then tap Change. 3. Select a delay of either 2 or10 seconds by selecting the corresponding option on the menu. 4. T ap OK to exit the Settings menu. T o cancel the timer: 1. T ap File > Menu > Setup tab . 2. Select Self-T imer from the list, then tap Change. 3. Select Off. 4. T ap OK to exit the Settings menu. Con fig ur ing F ile Se ttings The settings menu on the Photosmart mobile camera allo ws you to specify ho w images are named and stored on your iP A Q Pocket PC. Using the File > Me nu settings, you can change the f ilename prefix of images you capture and adjust the image counter . Additionally , you can specify the folder on your iP A Q Pocket PC where images are stored. T o access the file settings menu: 1. T ap File > Menu > File tab . 2. Using the C amera S ettings User ’s Guide 3–5 Cus tomizing Video Set tings Through the File > Menu settings, you can also customize the properties of videos captured with the Photosmart Mobile Camera. T o adjust the video capture settings: 1. T ap File > Menu > Vi d e o tab . 2. Select the desired video resolution in the Resolution box (either 320 x 240 or 160 x 120). Note: Changing the video resolution not only sets the image size for video recordings, b ut it also af fects the size of the digital vie wf inder image. The higher the resolution, the lo wer the frame size. 3. Select the appropriate option to choose whether to turn audio of f or on. 4. T ap OK to exit the Settings menu. Tip s f or T ak ing Be t ter Pic tu res There are a number of things you can do to ensure the pictures you take with your HP Photosmart Mobile Camera are of the highest possible quality . ■ When taking pictures of scenes with many f ine details and many colors (for e xample, a farmer’ s market), use the Best compression setting. ■ When taking pictures of subjects where the background has bright lights, try to frame the subject so that the bright lights do not appear in the picture. 350444-001.book Page 5 Tuesda y, Sept ember 9, 2003 4: 07 PM
Using the C amera S ettings User ’s Guide 3–6 ■ Change the White Balance setting to the appropriate type of lighting, or choose None under the follo wing conditions: ❏ Pictures taken with indoor lighting appear tinted (either bluish or yello wish). ❏ The picture is composed of a uniform, primary color (for example, a close-up shot of lemons or oranges). ❏ No white color is present in picture. 350444-001.book Page 6 Tuesda y, Sept ember 9, 2003 4: 07 PM

T ap Start > Programs > iP A Q Image Zone, then tap > Help. Vie win g Pic tu res 1. T ap the Camera icon on the bottom of the screen. From the Command bar , tap File > Play . Or From the Start menu, tap Pr ograms > iP A Q Image Zone. Note: The vie wer opens in Bro wse mode by def ault. Bro wse mode displays thumbnail vie w of the pictures in the current folder . 2. Vie wing a Pic tur e F ull-Sc reen T o view a picture full-screen, and to be able to zoom in or out: 1. T ap a thumbnail to select the picture. 2. T ap Vi e w > Image, or tap on the pre vie w windo w . 3. Zoom in or out using the toolbar b uttons. If the picture is too large to f it on the screen, you can display other parts of the picture by dragging the stylus on the screen, or b y using the Navigation Buttons. 4. T ap OK to return to thumbnail view . Recor din g Sound With a P ic ture Y ou can record sound for each picture. When the picture is displayed, the associated sound is played. Pictures with sound ha ve a speak er icon in their thumbnails. T o add sound to a picture: 1. Select the picture by tapping on its thumbnail. 2. T ap the Cassette icon on the menu bar . 3. T ap the Record button on the Recording toolbar . 4. Speak into the microphone or record the sound. 5. T ap the Stop button on the Recording toolbar . 6. During the slidesho w , tap anywhere on the screen to display the on-screen controls which you can use to mov e forward or backward through the slides, or to end the slidesho w . Y ou can also use the Na vigation Buttons to mo ve forward or backw ard through the slides. Y ou can control display options such as: ■ Sequence ■ Delay ■ Rotation ■ T ransition Effect T o change slideshow settings: 1. T ap File > Options > Slideshow tab . 2. Select the settings and ef fects you want to use in your slidesho w . 3. T ap OK.
