9 Photograph y Te rms and Def initions Te rm s Definitions A uto F ocus (A F) Auto focus re fers to a camcorde r lensâ ability t o adjust its conf iguration in or der to focus proper ly on a subject regard les s of w hether it is near or far from the camcorder . Auto focu s lense s genera ll y pro vide vastly supe rior i m age quality t han do their fix ed focus cousins s in c e they do not ha ve to rely on t heir depth of field. White Balance The adjus tm ent of electronic s till picture color channel gain s or i mage proces s in g s o that radiation w it h r elative spectral pow er dis trib ution equal to that of the scene i llumination sour c e is rendered as a visual neutral . Man y people just leave the c a mc o rder set to auto w hit e balan c e all the t ime . Digital Pr int Order Format (DPOF) A standardiz ed ASCII file c reated in a digital camcorde r and store d on removab le media along w it h the image files that indi cate h ow many copie s of wh ich images should be printed. It al so allow s index prints, cropping, and t ex t ov erlays t o be specified. Exif/JPEG A compres s ed file for m at for digita l camcorde r i n w hic h the image s are c o m pre s sed using t he baseline JPEG standard , des c ribe d in ISO 1 2234-2, and m etadata an d thumbn ail image s are stored using TIFF tag s within an applicati on s eg m en t at the beginning of the JPEG file. ISO Spee d A numerical valu e calculated fro m the ex posure prov ided at the focal plane o f an el ec troni c c camcorde r to produ ce specified ca mc ord er outpu t signal chara cteristics using the m e t hods de scribed in the refer enced standard. 15 2.2 Charging the Batter y It is reco m mende d that t he N P-40 Lithiu m B atter y be fully char ged before use. First, conne ct the ex t erna l battery c harg er to the AC pow e r source (w all ou t let or powe r strip). Nex t, plug the battery into the ex t ern al charge r as illu s trated below . The ba t tery m ay take up to 2 1/2 h ours to charge. W hen th e light on the charger turns g reen, remove the battery and use w hen read y. Note: Do not leave the battery in the charg er for extende d period s of ti m e a f ter it has b een f ully ch arged.
