ROAD SAFETY COME S FIRST Obey all local laws. Always keep your ha nds free to operate vehicle while driving. Your first consideration w hile driving should be road safety. INTERFERENCE All wireless phones may be susceptible to interference, w hich could affect performance. SWITCH OFF IN H OSPITALS Follow any restrictions. Switch the phone off near medical equipment. SWITCH O FF IN AIRCRAFT Follow any restrictions. Wi reless devices can cause interference in aircraft. SWITCH OFF WHEN REFUELLING Do not use the phone at a refuelling point . Do not use near fuel or chemicals. SWITCH OFF NEAR BLASTING Follow any restrictions. Do not use the phone where blasting is in progress.

WATER-RESIST ANCE Your phone is not water-re sistant. Keep it dry. BACKUP COPIES Remember to make backup copies or keep a written record of all important information stored in your phone . CONNECTING TO OTHER DEVICES When connecting to any other device, re ad its user guide for detailed safety instructions. Do not connect incompatible products. CALLING Ensure the phone is swit ched on and in service. Enter the phone number, including the area code, t hen press Call . To end a call, press End . To answer a call, press Answ er . EMERGENCY CALLS Ensure the phone is switched on and in service. Press and hold the clear/exit key twice for several seconds to clea r the display. Enter the emergency number, then press Call (using the Navi key ). Gi ve your location. Do not end the call until given permission t o do so.

Many of the features in this device depend on features in the wireless network to function. T hese Network Services may not be av ailable on all networks or you may have to make specific arrangements with your service provider be fore you can utilize Network Services. Your service provider may need to give you addition al instructions for their use and explain what charges will apply. Some networks may have limitations that affect how you can use Network Services. For instance, some networ ks may not support all language-dependent characters and services. Your service provider may have requested that certain features be disabled or not activated in your device. If so, they will not appear on your device menu. Contact your service provider for more information. ■ Charger and accessory Check the model number of any charger before us e with this device. This device is intended for use when supplied with power from ACP-7, ACP-8, ACP-12, LCH-9 and LCH-12. Warning: Use only batteries, chargers and accessories approved by the phone manufacturer for use with this particular phone model. The use of any ot her types may invalidate any approval or warrant y applying to the phone, and may be dangerous. For availability of approved accessor ies, please check with your dealer. When you disconnect the power cord of any accessory, grasp and pull the plug, not the cord.
11 Copyright © 2005 Nokia. All rights reserved . General information ■ Stickers in the sales package The stickers contain important inform ation for service and customer support purposes. Keep these stic kers in a safe place. Attach the sticker to the Club Nokia Invitation Card supplied in the sales package. Attach the sticker to your warranty card. ■ Access codes • Security code: This code, supplied with the phon e, protects your phone against unauthorized use. The preset code is 12345. Refer to Security settings on page 44 to see how it works. • PIN code: This code, supplied with the SIM card, protects the card against unauthorized use. Set the PIN code request in the Security settings menu to on (see Security settings on page 44 ) , s o t h a t t h e c o d e i s r e q u ested each time the phone is switched on. If you enter the PIN code incorrectly thre e times in succession , the S IM card is blocked. You must enter the PUK code to unblock the SIM card and set a new PIN code.
12 Copyright © 2005 Nokia. All rights reserved . • PIN2 code: This code is supplied with some SI M cards and is required to access certain services, such as charging unit counters. If you enter the PIN2 code incorrectly three t imes in succession, PIN2 code blocked appears on the display, and you will be asked for the PUK2 code. Change the security code, PIN code and PIN2 code in Change of access codes in the Security settings menu (see Security settings on page 44 ). Keep the new codes secret and in a safe pl ace separate from your phone. • PUK and PUK2 code: These codes may be supplied with the SIM card. If this is not the case, contact your local service provider.

Get started ■ Insert a SIM card • Keep all SIM cards out of the reach of small children. • The SIM card and its contacts can be da maged easily by scratches or bending, so be careful when handling, inserting or removing the card. • Before installing the SIM card, make su re that the phone is switched off, disconnected from the charger or any other device and then remove the battery. 1. Press the back cover release button (1), slide the back cover (2) and lift it off the phone. 2. Remove the battery by lifting it using the finger grip (3).
14 Copyright © 2005 Nokia. All rights reserved . 3. Lift the SIM card holder using the finger grip. Flip the holder open (4). Press the SIM card carefully into the SIM card s lot (5). Make sure that the gold-colored connectors on the card are facing downw ards and that the bevelled corner is on the right. Close the SIM card holder and press it to lock. 4. Align the gold-colored connectors on the battery with the corresponding connectors on the phone, and push the opposite end of the battery until it snaps into place (6). 5. Align the bottom of the back cover with the bottom of the phone (7), press the top of the back cover to lock it into place (8).
15 Copyright © 2005 Nokia. All rights reserved . ■ Charge the battery Do not charge the battery if either of the phone covers has been removed. 1. Connect the lead from the charger to the base of the phone. 2. Connect the charger to an AC wall outlet. The battery indicator bar starts scrolling. • Charging a BL-5C battery with the ACP-7 charger takes up to 3 hours 30 minutes. •I f Not charging is displayed, wait for a whil e, disconnect the charger, plug it in again, and retry. If charging still fails, contact your dealer. 3. When the battery is fully charged, the bar stops scrolling. Disconnect the charger from the phone and the AC outlet. ■ Normal operating position Use the phone only in its normal operating position. Your device has a n external antenn a. Note: As with any other radio transmitting device, do not touch the antenna unn ecessarily when the device is switched on. Contact with the anten na affect s call quality and may cause the device to operate at a higher power level than otherwise needed. Avoiding contact with the an tenna area when operating the device opt imizes the antenna performance and the battery life.
16 Copyright © 2005 Nokia. All rights reserved . ■ K eys and connectors 1. Flashlight Your phone has a built-in lamp. See Flashlight on page 19 . 2. Navi key The function of the Nokia Navi key depends on the text shown above it. In this guide, the use of the Navi key is assumed with just the related guiding text displayed, e.g. Menu or Select . 3. Power key Switches the phone on or off. When the keypad is locked, pressing the power key briefly turns the phone’s display lights on for approximately 15 seconds. 4. Scroll keys Enable scrolling through names, phone numbers, menus or settings. Adjust the earpiece volume during a call. In standby mode, the scroll-up key shows the list of last dialled numbers and the scroll-down key shows the names and phone numbers saved in Contacts.

The clear/exit key Deletes characters from the display and exits from different functions. 6. 0 - 9 enter numbers and characters. * and # are used for various purposes in different functions. 1. Charger connector 2. Headset connector 3. Microphone ■ Display and standby mode The indicators described below are shown when the phone is ready for use and no characters have been keyed in by the user. The screen is called ‘standby mode’. 1. Shows the name of the cellular network in which the phone is being currently used, or the operator logo. 2. Shows the signal intensity of the cellular network at your current location. 3. Shows the battery charge level. 4. Shows the current function of the Navi key.
18 Copyright © 2005 Nokia. All rights reserved . ■ Change the covers Before changing the cover, always switch o ff the power and disconnect the phone from the charger or any other device. Avoid touching electronic components while changing the covers. Always store and use the phone with the covers attached. 1. Remove the back cover of the phone and battery; see steps 1 and 2 in Insert a SIM card on page 13 . 2. Remove the front cover carefully starting from the bottom of the phone (3). 3. Remove the keymat carefu lly (4). Press the new keymat into the new front cover starting from the top (5). Make sure that the ne w keymat is properly po sitioned (6).
19 Copyright © 2005 Nokia. All rights reserved . 4. Align the top of the front cover with the top of the phone and press the front cover to lock it into place (7). 5. Insert the battery and replace the back cover. See steps 4 and 5 in Insert a SIM card on page 13 . ■ Put on the wrist strap Thread the strap through the holes as shown in the picture and then tighten it. ■ Flashlight Your phone has a built-in flashlight that you can use. Whenever the flashlight is activated, is shown on the phone display. To use the flashlight, you have the following options: • In standby mode, press and hold the clear/ exit key. The flashlight is off when you release the clear /exit key. Alternatively, to have the flashlight co ntinuously on, press the clear/exit key twice to switch the flashlight on and once to switch it off. • Select Menu > Extras > Flashlight and select On or Off . • During a call, press the cl ear/exit key and select Options > Flashlight on or Flashlight off .

To make international phone calls: Add a " " by pressing * twice, and add the country (or region) code in front of the area code (delete the leading 0 if necessary). Press the clear/exit key to delete the last entered digit. 2. Select Ca ll to call the number. Press the scro ll-up key to increase or the scroll- down key to decrease the volume of the earpiece or headset. 3. Select End to end the call (or to cancel the call attempt). Make a call using the phone book In standby mode, press the scroll-down ke y to find the name you want. Select Call to call the number. Make a conference call Conference call is a Network Service that allows up to four peopl e to participate in the same call. 1. Make a call to the first participant. Ke y in the phone number or select it from the phone book and select Call .
21 Copyright © 2005 Nokia. All rights reserved . 2. To make a call to a new participant, press the clear/exit key and select Options > New call . 3. When the new call has been answ ered, add it to the conference call by pressing the clear/exit key and select Options > Conference . 4. To add another new participant to the call, repeat steps 1 to 3. 5. To end the conference call, select End . Redial To redial one of the last 10 phone numbers you have called or attempted to call, press the scroll-up key once in standby mode, scroll with the scroll-up key or the scroll-down key to the phone number or name you want, and select Call . Speed dial Select Menu > Contacts > Speed dials . Select the key you want, (Key 2 to Key 9) with the scroll key and select Assign . Select whet her you want to assign to a call or an SMS. Select the name you want and Select . After the phone number has been assigned to a number key, you can speed-dial the number in the following ways: • Press the corresponding number key and then select Call , or •I f Speed dialling is set to "on", press and hold the corresponding number key until the call is started (see Call settings on page 40 ).

To divert or reject the call without answering, press the clear/exit key. ■ In-call operations During a call, press the cl ear/exit key and select Options for some of the following functions, many of which are Network Services: Mute or Unmute , Hold or Unhold , New call , Answer , Reject , End all calls , Send D TMF , Contacts , Swap , Menu , and Flashlight on or Flashlight off . ■ Listen to voice messages Voice mailbox is a Network Service. For more information and to receive your voice mailbox number, contact your service provider. To call your voice mailbox, press and hold 1 in standby mode. To ch ange the voice ma ilbox number, see Voice mailbox number on page 34 . To divert calls to your voice mailbox, refer to Call settings on page 40 . ■ Lock the keypad The keypad lock prevents keys from being pressed accidentally. To lock or unlock the keypad: In standby mode, select Menu and then * quickly. You can also set the phone to automatically turn on the keylock after a certain period of time. Refer to Keyguard settings on page 43 . When the keypad is locked, the indicator is shown on the display.

Note: When keypad is locked, calls are still po ssible to the emergency number programmed into your phone (e.g. 112 or other official emergency number). Key in the emergency number and select Call . The number is displayed only after you have keyed in its last digit.

Write text You can key in text in two different wa ys, using the traditional text input, indicated with , or using another method called predictive text input indicated with . ■ Set predictive text input on or off When writing text, select Options > Dictionary . • To set the predictive text input on, se lect a language in the dictionary options list. Predictive text input is only available for the languages on the list. • To revert to traditional text input, select Dictionary off . Tip: To quickly set the predictive text input on or off when writing text, press # twice. ■ Use predictive text input Predictive text input is an easy way to write text. The predictive text input is based on a built-in dictionary to which you can also add new words. 1. Key in the word you want by pressing each key once for one letter. The word changes after each keystroke. For exa mple, to write ‘Nokia’ when the English dictionary is selected, press 6, 6, 5, 4, 2.

To clear the screen, press and hold the clear/exit key. • To switch between upper and lower cases, or between traditional and predictive text input, press * repeate dly and check the indicator at the top of the display. • To switch between letters and numbers, press and hold #. • To get a list of special ch aracters, press and hold *, select the character you want, and press Use . • To insert a number, press and hold the number key you want. To insert several numbers, press and h old # and key in the numbers. 2. If the displayed word is the one you want, press 0 and start writing the next word. • If you want to change the word, press * repeatedly until the word you want appears. • If "?" is displayed after the word, the word is not in the dictionary. To add the word to the dictionary, select Spe ll , key in the word (traditional text input is used) and select OK . Write compound words Key in the first half of the word, press the scroll-down key, and then key in the second half.

Use the following functions to edit the text: • To add a space, press 0. • To add a punctuation mark or special char acter, press 1 repeatedly, or press *, select the desired character, and press Us e . • To move the cursor left or right, press the scroll-up or scroll-down keys respectively. • To delete the character to the left of the cursor, press the cl ear/exit key. To clear the screen, press and hold this key. • To switch between upper and lower case, press #. • To add a number, press and hold the desire d key. To switch between letters and numbers, press and hold #. • To key in a letter which is on the same key as the previous one, press the scroll- down key or the scroll-up key (or wait until the cursor appears), and key in the new letter.
27 Copyright © 2005 Nokia. All rights reserved . 4. Menu functions You can use the key features in the menus in the following ways: By scrolling 1. Select Menu in standby mode. 2. Press the scroll-up key or the scroll-down key to scroll to the main menu you want, and Se lect to ente r it. Press the clear/ exit key to exit a main menu. 3. If the menu contains submenus, scroll to the one you want and Select to enter it. Press the clear/exit key to ex it a submenu. If you do not want to save the change s you made to menu settings, press and hold the clear/exit key. By shortcut The menus, submenus and setting option s are numbered. These numbers are called shortcut numbers. In standby mode, select Menu and key in quickly, wi thin three seconds, the shortcut number of the menu you want to access. Repeat this for submenus. For example, if you want to activate Call waiting ser vice , select Menu > 6 (for Settings ) > 2 (for Call settings ) > 4 (for Call waiting service ) > 1 (for Activate ). Note that the shortcut number for Messages is 01.
28 Copyright © 2005 Nokia. All rights reserved . ■ Messages (Menu 0 1) Write messages You can write and send multi-part messag es consisting of several ordinary text messages (Network Service) . Invoicing may be based u pon the number of ordinary messages that are needed for any multi- part message. The number of available characters/the current part number of a multi-part message are shown on the top right of the display, for example 120/2. If you use special (Unicode) characters, such as Cyrillic characters , more parts may be needed for the message than would otherwise be required. Note that pr edictive text input may use Unicode characters. To send a message, the phone number of yo ur message centre has to be saved in the phone. See Message settings on page 33 . 1. In standby mode, select Menu > Messages > Write message . 2. Key in the message. The number of ava ilable characters and the current part number are shown on the top right of the display. 3. When the message is complete, select Options > Send , key in the recipient’s phone number, and select OK . If you want to send the mess age to several people, select Sending opts > Send to many , scroll to the first recipient, and select Send . Repeat this for each recipient. To send a message to a predef ined distribution list, select Sending opts > Send to list . To define and edit distribution lists, see Distribution lists on page 31 .

Read a text message (Inbox) When you have received text messages in standby mode, the number of new messages as well as a are shown on the display. 1. Select Re ad to view the messages immediately. To view the messages late r, press the clear/ex it key. Go to the Inbox menu (Menu 01-2) when you want to read the messages. 2. Use the scroll keys to browse through the message. 3. While reading the message, you can select Options for the following: Delete , Reply , Chat , Edit , Use detail , Forward , A s reminder , Small fonts and Details . Sent items In the Sent items menu, you can view the copies of the messages that you have sent. Select Options for the following: Delete , Edit , Use detail , Forward , As reminder , Small fonts and Details .

Chat You can have a conversation with other people using this text message service. Each chat message is sent as a s eparate text message. The mes sages received and sent during a chat are not saved. To start a chat, select Menu > Messages > Chat , or select Options > Chat when reading a received text message. 1. Key in the other person’s phone number or recall it from the phone book, and select OK . 2. Key in your nickname for the chat, and select OK . 3. Key in your message, and select Options > Send . 4. The reply from the other person is dis played above the message you sent. To reply to the message, select OK and repeat step 3 above. When writing a message, you can select Options > Chat name to edit your nickname or > Chat history to view the previous messages. Picture messages You can receive and send messages that contain pictures (Network Se rvice). Picture messages are saved in the phon e. Note that each picture message

Note: This function can be used only if it is supported by your network operator or service provider. Only phones that offer picture message features can receive and display picture messages. Receive a picture message To view the message immediately, press Show . Press Options and you have the following options for the picture message: Delete , Reply , Chat , Edit text , Save picture , As scr . saver , Use number , As reminder and Details . Distribution lists If you need to send messages frequently to a fixed group of recipients, you can define a distribution list and use it when sending a message. You can define up to 6 distribution lists with up to 10 recipi ents in each. The phone s ends a text message to each recipient separately. To add a new distribution list, select Menu > Messages > Distribution lists . Select Options > Add list . Give the distribution list the na me that you want and select Options > View list . To add a contact to the list, select Options > Add contact . You can add up to 10 recipients to one distribution list. To view and edit distribution lists, select Menu > Messages > Distribution lists . If a message fails to be sent to one or more recipients, a report listing the number of failures, successful sendings and names not found will be displayed. You can select each category by selecting Select .

You can remove them from the list by selecting Remove . • Resend to resend the message to the failed recipients. • View to view the list of failed recipients. Templates You can view or edit the preset messages (’templates’) that you can use for writing a message. Smileys You can edit and store the smileys such as ":-)", and use them in compiling messages. Delete messages Select Menu > Messages > Delete messages . To delete all read messag es from all folders, select All read > OK . Select OK when Delete read messages from all folders? is subsequently displayed. To delete all the read messages in a folder, scroll to the folder and select OK . Select OK when Delete all read messages from folder? is subsequently displayed.

Message settings The phone offers two kinds of message setti ngs: settings specific to each setting group (’set’) and settings c ommon to all text messages. Profile 1 (Menu 1-11-1) 1 A profile is a collection of settings needed for sending text and picture messages. Each set has the following se ttings: Message centre number , Messages sent as , Message validity and Rename sending profile . You need the message centre number to send text and picture message s. You can obtain this number from your service provider. Common (Menu 1-11-2) 2 The settings in this submenu apply to all te xt messages that you send, irrespective of the chosen set. The available settings are: Delivery reports , Reply via same centre and Character support Select Character support to def ine how the phone ha ndles Unicode characters in text messages. 3 If you select the Full option, the phone sends all the Unicode characters, such as ’á’ and Cyrillic characters, included in a text message to a c ompatible phone, if supported by your network. 1. The total number of sets depends on how many sets your SIM card offers. 2. The shortcut number of this menu depends on the number of sets available. Here, it is as- sumed that only one set is available. 3. Availability of this menu may vary acco rding to your service provider.

If you select the Reduced option, the phone tries to convert the Unicode characters into the corresponding non-Unic ode characters, for example ’á’ to ’a’, and converts the lower ca se Greek charac ters into upper case. If no such non- Unicode counterpart exists, the characte rs are sent as Unicode charac ters. Info service With this Network Service, you can receive messages on various topics f rom the network. For details, cont act your service provider. Voice mailbox number You can save and change the phone number of your voice mailbox (Network Service). Service command ed itor You can send service requests to your se rvice provider. Key in the characters you want. Press and hold # to switch be tween letters and numbers. Select Send to send the request. ■ Contacts (Menu 2) You can save names and phone numbers in the phone’s memory (internal phone book) and in the SIM card´s memory (SIM phone book). The internal phone book can store up to 50 names.

Key in the first character(s) of the name you are looking for and select Search . Press the scroll-up or scroll-down key to find the name you want. If the name or phone number is saved in the SIM card memory, is shown at the upper right corner of the display; if it is saved in the phone’s internal memory, is shown instead. QUICK SEARCH : Press the scroll-down key in standby mode, key in the first letter of the name. Scroll with the scroll-up or scroll-down key to find the name you want. You can also use the following options: • Service Nos. to call the service numbers of yo ur service provider if the numbers are included on your SIM card. (Network Service). • Info numbers to call the information numbers of your service provider if the numbers are included on your SIM card. (Network Service). • Add contact to save names and phone numbers in the phone book. • Delete to delete names and phone numbers from the phone book one by one or all at once. • Edit to edit the names and numbers in Contacts. • Copy to copy names and phone numbers all at once or one by one from the phone´s memory to the SIM card ´s memory, or vice versa.

Select the phone number or name you want and select Assign . Note that this function only works when both the network and the phone are able to identify and send the caller´s identity. • Send phone no. to send a person´s contact info rmation as an Over The Air (OTA) message if supported by the network. Settings for Contacts In standby mode, select Menu > Contacts > Settings . Then select: • Memory in use : to select whether the names and phone numbers are saved in Phone or SIM card . Note that when you change the SIM card, SIM card memory is automatically selected. • Contacts view : to select how the names and phone numbers are shown, either Name and no. (one name and number at a time), or Contacts list (three names at a time). • Memory status : to check how many names and phone numbers are already saved and how many can still be saved in each phone book. ■ Call register (Menu 3) The phone registers the phone numbers of missed, received and dialled calls, and the approximate length and cost of

The phone registers missed and received calls if it is switched on and within the network’s service area, and if th e network supports these functions. Recent call lists When you select Options in the Missed calls , Received calls or Dialled numbers menu, you can view the time of the call , edit, view or call the registered phone number, add it to Contacts , or delete it from the list. You can also send a text message ( Send message ). Call counters and call timers Note: The actual invoice for calls and serv ices from your service provider may vary, depending upon network features, rounding- off for billing, taxes and so forth. • Call duration : Shows the approximate duration of your outgoing and incoming calls. You can reset these call timers by selecting Clear timers . • Call costs : Shows the approximate cost of your l ast call or all calls in terms of units specified within the Sho w costs in function. • Call cost settings : Wi th Call cost limit , you can limit the call costs to the desired amount of charging units or uni ts of currency (Network Service). With Show costs in , you can select the units in which the phone shows the remaining talk-time (contact your se rvice provider for charging unit prices).

Options: Credit info display (show or hide remaining units in standby mode), Credit available (amount of remaining units), Last event costs and Recharge status . Note: When no more charging units or curre ncy units are left, calls may only be possible to the official emergency number programmed into the device. ■ Tones (Menu 4) In this menu, you can change the settings of the currently selected profile and create ringing tones of your own. See Profiles (Menu 5) on page 39 . • Ringing tone : Sets the tone that you hear when you receive a call. • Ringing volume : Sets the volume level for the ringing and message alert tones. • Incoming call alert : Defines how the phone notifies you of incoming voice calls. For example, when Off is selected, the phone stays silent when you receive a call and is shown in standby mode. • Message alert tone : Sets the tone that you hear when you receive a text message. • Keypad tones : Sets the volume for keypad tones. • Warning tones : Sets the phone to sound tones, e.g. when the battery is running out of power. • Vibrating alert : Sets the phone to vibrate when you receive a call or a text message.
39 Copyright © 2005 Nokia. All rights reserved . • Rhythmic backlight alert : Sets the backlights of th e phone to flash in the rhythm of the selected ringing tone or message alert tone. The vibrator does not operate when the phone is connected to a charger or a desktop stand. ■ Profiles (Menu 5) You can customize the phone tones for different events and environments. Initially, personalize the setting groups and profiles to your liking and then you only need to activate a profile to use it. Activating a profile and changing its settings In the Profiles menu, select the profile and select Activate . To change the settings of the selected profile, select P ersonalise > Ringing tone , Ringing volume , Incoming call alert , Message alert tone , K eypad tones , Warning tones , Vibrating alert , Rhythmic backlight alert , Screen saver , or Rename (not available under General ). Select the option you want and select OK . You can also change the settings of the currently selected profile in Tone settings , see Tones (Menu 4) on page 38 . Tip: To activate a profile quickly in standby mode or during a call: Press the power key quickly, scroll to the desired profile, and select OK .

You can also reset some menu settings to their default values by selecting Restore factory settings . Time settings Clock To set the phone to show the current time in standby mode, adjust the time, and select the 12-hour or 24-hour time format. If the battery was removed from the phone, you may need to set the time again. Date setting To set the correct date. If the battery was removed from the phone, you may need to set the date again. Auto update of date & time This Network Service updates the date and time according to the current time zone. The automatic update of date and t ime does not change the time you have set for the alarm clock or the reminder note s. They are in local time. Updating may cause some alarms that you have set to expire. Call settings • Call divert To divert your incoming calls to your voice mailbox or to some other phone number (Network Service).
41 Copyright © 2005 Nokia. All rights reserved . Select the divert option you want, for example, select Divert if busy to divert the calls when you are on a call or when you reject a call. Several divert options may be ac tive at the same time. When Divert all voice calls is activated, is shown on the display in standby mode. Set the selected option on ( Activate ) or off ( Cancel ), check whether the option is activated by selecting Check status , or specify a delay for certain diverts in Set delay (not available for all divert options). • Automatic redial : To set your phone to make up to ten attempts to connect the call after an unsuccessful call attempt. • Speed dialling : When speed dialling is on, you can dial the names and phone numbers assigned to the speed dial keys 2 to 9 by pressing and holding the corresponding key. • Call waiting service : When this Network Service is activated, the network notifies you of a new incoming call whil e you have a call in progress. Select Answer to answer the waiting call. The first call is put on hold. Select End to end the active call. • Send my caller ID : To set your phone number to be displayed ( On ) or hidden ( Off ) from the person you are cal ling (N etwork Service). When you select Preset , the setting agreed with your service provider is used. • Line for outgoing calls : With this Network Service, you can select the phone line 1 or 2 for making calls, or prevent line selection, if supported by your SIM card.

However, you will not be able to make calls if you select line 2 without subscribing to this Network Service. When line 2 is selected, "2" is shown on the display in the standby mode. Phone settings Language : To select the langua ge for the display texts. Cell info display : To set the phone to indicate when it is used in a cellular network based on Micro Cellular Network (MCN) te chnology (Network Service). For more information, contact your service provider. Welcome note : You can key in a message that w ill be shown briefly on the display when the phone is switched on. Network selection : To set the phone to automatically select a cellular network available in your area, or you can sele ct the network manually. The network you select must have a roaming agre ement with your home network. Confirm SIM service actions : To set the phone to show or hide confirmation messages when yo u use the SIM card services (s ee SIM services (Menu 11) on page 50 ). Enhancement settings Enhancement settings menu is shown only if the phone is or has been connected to an enhancement such as the headsets. Select Menu > Settings > Enhancement settings > Headset or Handsfree .

All rights reserved . • Select Default profile to select the profile the phone uses when the enhance ment is connec ted. • Select Automatic answer to set the phone to automatically answer an incoming call after five seconds. If the Incoming call alert is set to Beep once or Off , automatic answer will not be used. • Select Lights to set the lights permanently On . Select Automatic to set the lights on for 15 seconds after a keypress. The Lights option is available only when Handsfree is selected. Keyguard settings You can set the keypad of your phone to lock automatically, Automatic keyguard , after a preset time delay wh en the phone is in standby mode and no function of the phone has been used. You can also use the Security keyguard to lock the keypad of the phone with a security code: Keyguard code . • Select Menu > Settings > Keyguard settings . To ac tivate the Automatic keyguard , select On and the phone displays Set delay: . Key in the time and select OK . You can set the time from 10 second s to 60 minutes. To deact ivate the automatic keyguard, select Off . • Select Menu > Settings > Keyguard settings > K eyguard code . To activate the security keyguard, key in the security code and select OK . See Access codes on page 11 . After you have selected On , the phone asks for the security code every time you select Unlock. To deactivate the security keyguard, select Off . Security settings Note: When security features, which restrict calls, are in use (call barring, closed user group and fixed dialling), calls may be possible to certain emergency numbers in some networks (e.g. 112 or other official emergency number). • PIN code request : You can set your phone to ask for the PIN code of the SIM card when the phone is switched on. Some SIM cards do not allow the turning off of this function. • Call barring service : With this Network Service, you can restrict the making and receiving of calls with your phone. Select one of the barring options and set the option on ( Activate ) or off ( Cancel ) or check whether a service is activated ( Check status ). • Fixed dialling : You can restrict your outgoing calls to selected phone numbers (Network Service). • Closed user group : With this Network Service, you can specify a group of people whom you can call and who can call you. • Security level : To set the phone to ask for the security code when a new SIM card is inserted in the phone, Phone , or when you select the phone’s internal phone book, Memory . Note that when you change the security level, all the recent calls lists, including missed calls, received call s and dialled numbers, are cleared. • Change of access codes : You can change the security code, PIN code, PIN2 code, or barring password. These codes can include the numbers 0 to 9 only. Avoid using access codes similar to the emergency numbers, such as 112, to prevent accidental dialling of the emergency number.

Key in the security code and select OK . The names and phone numbers saved in the phone book are not deleted. ■ Alarm clock (Menu 7) You can set the alarm to sound at the time you want just once, or repeatedly, for ex ample every working day. Select Menu > Alarm clock . Key in the time for the alarm. When the alarm sounds, you can stop the alarm by pressing th e clear/exit key. If you select Snooze , the alarm stops and rings again in 6 minutes. If the alarm time is re ached while the phone is sw itched off, the phone switches itse lf on and starts sounding the a larm tone. If you press th e clear/exit key, the phone asks whether you want to activate the phone for calls. Press the c lear/exit key to switch off the phone or select Ye s to make and receive cal ls. Note: Do not select Ye s when wireless phone use is prohibite d or when it may cause interference or danger. ■ Reminders (Menu 8) Note: Your phone must be switched on to use t his function. Do not swi tch on th e phone whe n wirele ss phone use is prohibited or when it may cause interference or danger.

You can select the following options: Add new , View all , Delete , Edit or Send to add a new reminder, view, edit or send the existing reminders and delete the reminders one by one or all at once. When the reminder time is reached, you can stop the alarm by pressing the clear/ exit key. If you select Snooze , the phone alarms again in 10 minutes. ■ Games (Menu 9) The phone offers you some games to play. Each game is provided with a brief help text. Note: Your phone must be switched on to us e this function. Do not swit ch on the phone when wireless phone use is prohibited or when it may cause interference or danger. Adjust common game setting s Select Settings . You can set the sounds, lights and vibrations ( Shakes ) for the game. Note that when Warning tones is off, there may be no sound even if Game sounds is on, and when Vibrating alert is off, the phone does not vibrate even if Shakes is on.

Calculator The phone is provided with a calculator that can also be used for rough currency conversions. This calculator has limited a ccuracy and rounding errors ma y occur, especially in long divisions. In standby mode, select Menu > Extras > Calculator . Make a calculation • The keys 0 to 9 insert a digit. # inserts a decimal point. Press the clear/exit key to delete the last digit. To change the sign, select Options > Change sign . • Press * once for " ", twice for "-", three times for "*" and f our times for "/". • To get the result, select Options > Equals . Press and hold to clear the display for a new calculation. Make a currency conversion To save the exchange rate, select Options > Exchange rate > Foreign unit expressed in domestic units or Domestic unit expressed in foreign units , key in the value (press # for a decimal point), and select OK .

Stopwatch The stopwatch can be used for time measur ement, for example in different sports. Select Menu > Ex tras > Stopwatch . Select Start to commence timing. To take the time, select Stop . When the timing is stopped, you can select Options for Start , Rese t or Exit . If you select Start , timing continues from the previous stop time. Reset stops the current timing and sets the time to zero. To set the timing to continue in the ba ckground, press and hold the clear/exit key twice. While the time is running , is flashing in standby mode. Using the stopwatch consumes th e batte ry and the phone's operating time will be reduced. Be careful not to let it run in the backgroun d when performing other operations with your phone. Countdown timer You can set the alarm to sound after a period of lapsed time. Select Menu > Ex tras > Countdown timer . Key in the alarm time and select OK . You can also key in a note for the alarm, change the time and stop the timer. When the timer is running, is shown in standby mode. When the alarm time is reached, the phon e sounds a tone and flashes the related text. Press any key to stop the alarm.

Select Menu > Extra s > Screen saver . Select the picture and the timeout after which the screen saver will be activated. Do not switch the phone on when wireless phone use i s prohib ited or when it may cause interference or danger. Note that WAP pages use Wireless Mark -up Language (WML). Web pages using the HyperText Mark-up Language (HTML) cannot be viewed on your phone. Check the availability of WAP services, pr icing and tariffs with your network operator and/or the WAP service provider wh ose service you want to use. Service providers will also give you instructions on how to use their services.

Save the settings received as a text message When you receive the connection settings as a text message, Service settings received is displayed. • To save the received settings, select Options > Save . • To view the settings before saving them, select Options > Sho w . The settings may be available on their Web site.

When the connection security is on, the phone tries to use a secure connection with the WAP service. If a secure connection is not available, the connection will not be made. If you wish to connect anyway, with a non-secure connection, set the connection security to Off . • Data bearer : check that GSM data is selected. For pricing, connection speed and other information, contact your network operator or service provider. • Dial-up number : key in the number and select OK. • IP address : key in the address (press * for a dot) and select OK . • Authentication type : select Normal or Secure. • Data call type : select Analogue or ISDN. • User name : key in the user name (press 1 for a dot) and press OK. • Pa s s w or d : key in the passwor d and select OK . Repeat this to confirm the password.

Send WAP settings You can send your WAP settings to a compatible phone. 1. In the Services menu, select Settings > Conn. settings . 2. Scroll to the set of connection settings that you want to send. 3. Select Options > Send settings . 4. Key in the recipient’s phone number and select OK . The user name and password are not sent. Make a connection to a WAP service 1. Activate the settings of the WAP service that you want to use: Select Ser vices > Settings > Conn. settings . Scroll to the setting set you want to use and select Options > Acti va te . If you want to use the same WAP service as the previous time, you can skip this step. 2. Make a connection to the WAP service in one of the following ways: • Open the homepage of th e WAP service. Select Services > Home .

When you have not keyed in any characters on the display, press and hold 0. • Select the bookmark of the WAP service. Select Services > Bookmarks , scroll to the desired bookmark, and select Options > Go to . If the bookmark does not work ( Check service settings may be displayed), change the active set of co nnection settings and try again. • Enter the address of the WAP service. Select Services > Go to address , key in the address (press * for spec ial characters) and select OK . Note that it is not necessary to add th e prefix http:// in front of the address since it will be added automatically. If you are using a protocol other than http, add the appropriate prefix. Browse the pages of a WAP service Once you have established a connection to the WAP service, you can start browsing its WAP pages. The function of the phone keys may vary in different WAP serv ices. Follow the text guides on the display. For more informat ion, contact your WAP service provider. General guidelines for using the keys • Use the scroll-up and scroll-down keys to browse the WAP page and highlight the desired item. The item can be, for example, underlined text (a ’link’). • Press the Navi key to select a highlighted item. • Press the clear/exit key to return to th e WAP page that you viewed previously.

All options may not be available at the same time. The service provider may also offer other options. Home : takes you back to the home page of the WAP service. Reload : refreshes the WAP page. Open link : selects a link or any other highlighted item on the WAP page. View image : you can scroll a still picture or an animated picture that cannot be displayed entirely. Press the scroll-up or scroll-down keys (or 2 or 8) to scroll the picture up or down. Press 4 or 6 to scroll the picture left or right. Press Options for View next , View previous or Save image . With Save image you can save pictures for using them in pi cture messages or as screensavers, a n d animated pictures for using th em as screensavers. If the picture is too large for picture me ssages and screensavers, move the box shown over the picture to select th e area that you want to save, and Select . Appear . sett. : you can wrap the text lines and hide the images on the WAP page. See also page 56 . Bookmarks : you can manage bookmarks, for example, save the current WAP page as a bookmark. Quit : quits browsing and ends the call. End a WAP connection When you are using a WAP service, select Options > Quit . When Quit bro wsing? is shown, select Ye s . The phone ends the call and closes the WAP connection. Appearance settings of WAP pages 1. When no WAP connection is in progress • Select Menu (in standby mode) > Services , Settings and Appearance settings . When a WAP connection is in progress • Select Options > Appear . sett. . 2. Select Text wrapping or Show images . 3. Select On or Off for Te xt wrapping and Ye s or No for Show images . When Text wrapping is set to On , the text continues on the next line if it cannot be shown on one line. When Show images is set to No , none of the pictures on the WAP page are shown. This may speed up the browsing of WAP pages that contain a lot of pictures.

Service inbox The phone can receive service messages (’pushed messages’) from your service provider. These messages can contain, fo r example, a list of news headlines and the address of a WAP servic e that offers the news.

View a received service message 1. When no WAP connection is in progress When you receive a service message, 1 service message received is displayed. To view the message immediately, select View . To view the message later, select Exit . When you want to view the message, select Menu (in standby mode) > Servi ces > Service inbox . When a WAP connection is in progress Select Options > Service inbox . 2. Scroll to the message you want, press Options and select Retrieve , Details or Delete . • Select Retrieve to download the content indicated by the service message. Empty the cache memory Note: The information or services you have ac cessed are stored in the cache of your phone. A cache is a buffer me mory, which is used to stor e data temporarily. If you have tried to access or hav e accessed co nfidential information requiring passwords (for example, your bank account), empty the cache of your phone after each use.

To empty the cache memory: • When no WAP connection is in progress: select Menu > Services > Clear the cache . • When a WAP connection is in progress: select Options > Clear the cache . Authority certificates In order to use some WAP services such as banking services, you need an authority certificate. Using the certificate can help you to improve the security of connections between your phone and a WAP gateway or WAP server, if the Connection security option is set to On . You can download the certificate from a WAP page if the WAP service supports the use of security certificates. After th e download, you can view the certificate and then save or delete it. If you save th e certificate, it is added to the list of certificates in the phone. You can only be sure that a WAP gateway or WAP server is the one it claims to be after its identity has been checked agai nst the corresponding certificate in the phone. You will see a note on the phone display if the identity of the WAP server or WAP gateway canno t be verified, the WA P serv er or WAP gateway certificate is not authentic or if you do not have the right certificate in your phone. To view the list of security certificates: Select Ser vices > Settings > Authority certificates .

Security icon If the security icon is displayed during a WAP connection, the data transmission between the phone and the WAP gateway or WAP server, identified by the IP address setting in Conn. settings , is encrypted and secure. However, the security icon does not indic ate that the data transmission between the gateway and the c ontent server (place wh ere the requeste d resource is stored) is secure. It is up to the service provider to secure the data transmission between the gateway and the content server.

The full performance of a new battery is achieved only after two or th ree complete charge and dis charge cycles. The battery can be charged and discharged hundreds of times but it will eventually wear ou t. When the talk and standby times are noticeably shorter than normal, buy a new battery. Use only Nokia approved batteries, and recharge your ba ttery only with Nokia approved chargers designated for this device. Unplug the charger from the electrical plug and th e device when not in use. Do not leave the battery connected to a charger. Overcharging ma y shorten its lifetime. If le ft unused, a fully charged battery will lose its charge over time. Temperature extre mes can affect the ability of your battery to charge. Use the battery only for its in tended purpose. Never use any charger or battery that is damaged. Do not short-circuit the battery. Accidental short-circuiting can occur when a metallic object such as a coin, clip, or pen causes dire ct connection of the positive ( ) and negat ive (-) terminals of the battery. (These look like me tal strips on the battery.) This might happen, for example, when you carry a spare battery in your pocket or purse. Short-circuiting the terminals may damage the battery or the connecting object. Leaving the battery in hot or cold places, su ch as in a closed car in summer or winter conditions, will reduce the capa city and l ifetime of the battery. Always try to keep the battery between 15°C and 25°C (59°F and 77°F). A device with a hot or cold battery may not work temporarily, even when the battery is full y charged. Battery performance is particularly limited in temperatures well below freezing.

Precipitation, humidity and all types of liquids or moisture can contain minerals that will corrode electronic circuits. • Do not use or store the device in dusty, di rty areas. Always secure the phone in its holder; do not place the phone on the passenge r seat or where it can break loose in a collision or sudden stop. Hospitals or health care facilities may be using equipment th at could be sensitive to external RF energy. Pacemakers Pacemaker manufacturers recommend that a mi nimum separation of 6 in. (15.3 cm) be maintained between a wireless phone and a pacemaker to avoid potential interference with the pacemaker. These recommendations are cons istent with the independent research by and recommendations of Wireless Technology Research. Pers ons with pacemakers should: • always keep the device more than 6 in. (1 5.3 cm) from their pacemaker when the device is switched on; • not carry the device in a breast pocket; and • hold the device to the ear opposite the pacemaker to minimize the potential fo r interference. If you have any reason to suspect that interference is taking place, switch off your device immediately. Hearing aids Some digital wireless devices may interfere with some hearing aids. If interference occurs, consult your service provi der. ■ Potentially explosive enviro nments Switch off your device when in any area wi th a potentially explosive atmosphere and obey all signs and instructions. For more information, check with the manu facturer or its representative of your vehi cle or any equipment that has been added. Only qualified personnel should service the device , or inst all the device in a vehicle. Faulty installation or service may be dangerous and may invalidate any warranty that may apply to the device. All rights reserved . ■ Emergency calls Important: Wireless phones, including t his device, operate using radio s ignals, wireless networks, landline networks, and user-pro grammed functions. Because of this, connections in all conditions cannot be gu aranteed. You should never rely so lely on any wireless device for essential co mmunications like medical emergencies. To make an emergency call: 1. If the device is not on, switch it on. Check for adequate signal strength. Some networks may require that a valid SIM ca rd is properly inserted in the device. 2. Select End as many times as needed to clear the display and ready the device for calls. 3. Key in the official emergency number for yo ur present location. Emergency numbers vary by location. 4. Select Call . If certain features are in use, you may first need to turn those features off before you can make an emergency call. If the device is in o ffline or flight mode you mus t change the profile to activate the phone function before you can make an emergency call. Consult this guide or your service provider for more information. When making an emergency call, give all th e necessary information as accurately as possible. It is designed and manufactured not to exceed the limits for exposure to radio fre quency (RF) recommended by international

The guidelines were developed by independent scientific organisations through pe riodic and thorough evaluation of scientific studies. The guidelines include a substantial sa fet y margin designed to assure the safety of all persons, regardless of age and health. The exposure standard for mobile devices employs a unit of measurement known as the Specific Absorption Rate, or SAR. The SAR limit stated in the international guidelines is 2.0 W/kg*. Tests for SAR are conducted using standard operating positions with the device transmitting at its highest certified power lev el in all tested frequency bands. Although the SAR is determined at the highe st certified po wer level, the actual S AR of the device while operating can be well below the maximum value. This is because the device is designed to operate at multiple power levels so as to use only the power required to reach the network. In general, the closer you are to a base station, t he lower the power out put of the device. The highest SAR value for this device when tested for use at the ear is 0.67 W/kg. This device meets RF exposure guidelines when used e ither in the normal use position against the ear or w hen positioned at least 1.5 cm away from the body. Whe n a carry case, belt clip or holder i s used for body-worn opera tion, it should not contain metal and should position the product at least 1.5 cm away from your body. In order to transmit data files or messages, th is device requires a quality connection t o the network. In some cases, transmission of data files or messages may be delayed until such a connection is available.
