Battery information 28 Copyright é 2004 Nokia. All rights reserved. 5. Battery information â Charging and Discharging Y our phone is powered by a rechargeable battery . Note that a new batte ry's full performance is achieved only after two or three complete charge and discharge cycles! The battery can be charged and discharged hundreds of times but it will eventually wear out. When the operating time (talk-time and standby time) is noticeably shorter than normal, it is time to buy a new battery . Use only batteries approved by the phone manufacturer and recharge your battery only with the ch argers approved by the manufacturer . Unplug the charger when not in use. Do not leave the battery connected to a charger for longer than a week, since overcharging may shorten its lifetime. If left unused a fully charged battery will discharge itself over time. T emperature extremes can affect the ability of your battery to charge. Use the battery only for its intended purpose. Never use any charger or battery which is damaged. Do not short-circuit the battery . Accidental short-circuiting can occur when a metallic object (coin, clip or pen) causes direct connection of the and - terminals of the battery (metal strips on the battery) for example when you carry a spa re battery in your pocket or purse. Short-circuiting the terminals may damage the battery or the connecting object. Leaving the battery in hot or cold places, such as in a closed car in summer or winter conditions, will reduce the capacity and lifetime of the battery . Always try to keep the battery between 15ðC and 25ðC. A phone with a hot or cold battery may temporarily not work, even when the battery is fully ch arged. Batteries' performance is parti cularly limited in temperatures well below freezing. Do not dispose of batteries in a fire! Dispose of batteries according to local regulations (e.g. recycling). Do not dispose as household waste.

Important safety informatio n 36 Copyright é 2004 Nokia. All rights reserved. â C ertification information (SAR) THIS MODEL PHONE MEETS INTERNA TIONAL GUIDELINES FOR EXPOSURE T O RADIO WA VES. Y our mobile phone is a radio transmitter and receiver . It is designed and manufactured not to exceed t he limits for exposure to radio frequency (RF) recommended by international guidelines (ICNIRP). These limits are part of comprehensive guidel ines and establish permitted levels of RF energy for the general population. The guidelines were developed by independ ent scientific organisations through periodic and thorough evaluation of scientific studies. The guidelines include a substantial safety margin designed to assure the safety of all persons, regardless of age and health. The exposure standard for mobile pho nes employs a unit of meas urement known as the Specific Absorption Rate, or SAR. The SAR limit stated in the internat ional guidelines is 2.0 W/kg*. T es ts for SAR are conducted using standard operating positions with the phone transmitting at its highes t certified power leve l in all tested frequency bands. Although the SAR is determined at the highest certified power level, the actual SAR of the phone whil e operating can be well below the maximum value. This is because the phone is designed t o operate at multiple power level s so as to use only the power required to reach the network. In general, the closer you are to a base station, the lower the power output of the phone. The highest SAR value for this model phone when teste d for use at the ear is 0.67 W/kg. While there may be differences between the SAR levels of various phones and at various positions, they all meet the r elevant international guidelines for RF ex posure. This product meets RF exposure guidelines when used either in the normal use position against the ear or when positioned at least 1.5 cm away from the body . When a carry case, bel t clip or holder is used for body-worn operation, it should not contain metal and should position the product at least 1.5 cm away from your body . * The SAR limit for mobile phones used by the public is 2.0 watts/kilogram (W/kg) averaged o ver ten grams of b ody tissue. The guidelines incorporate a substantial margin of safety to give additional protection for the public and to account for any variations in measurements. SAR values may vary depending on national reporting requirements and the network band. For SAR information in other regions please look under produc t information a t http://www .nokia-asia.com.

In the event of such interference, you may want to consult your service provider . Other medical devices Operation of any radio transmitting equipment, includ in g cellular phones, may interfere with the functionality of inadequately protected medical devices. Consu lt a physic ian or the manu facture r of the medical device to determine if they are adequately shielded from ext ernal RF energy or if you have any questions. Switch off your phone in health care facilities when any regulations posted in these areas instruct you to do so. Hospital s or health care facilit ies may be using equipment that could be sens itive to external RF energy . V ehicles RF signals may affect imp roperly installed or inadequately shielded electronic systems in motor vehicles (e.g. electronic fuel inj ection systems, electronic anti-skid (anti-lock) braking systems, ele ctronic speed control systems, air bag systems). Check with the manufacturer or its rep resentative regarding your vehicle. Y ou should also consult the manu facturer of any equipment that has b een add ed to your vehicle. P osted facilities Switch your phone off in any facility where posted notices so require. â P otentially expl osive atmospheres Switch off your phone when in any area with a potentially explosive atmosphere and obey all signs and instructions. Sparks in such a reas could cause an explosion or fire resulti ng in bodily injury or even death. Users are advis ed to switch off the phone when at a refuelling point (service station). Users are reminded of the need to observe restricti ons on the use of radio equipment in fuel depots (fuel s torage and distribution areas), chemical plants or where blasting ope rations are in progress. Areas with a potential ly explosive atmosph ere are ofte n but not alwa ys clearly marked. They include below deck on boats; chemical tr ansfer or sto rage facilities; vehicles using liquified petroleum gas (s uch as propane or butane); areas where the air contains chemicals or particles, such as grain, dust or metal powders; and any other area where you would normally be advised to turn off your vehicle engine. â Ve h i c l e s Only qualified person nel s hould service the phone, or inst all the phone in a vehicle. Faulty insta llation or service may be dangerous and may invalidate an y warranty which may apply to the unit. The use of wireless telephones in an aircraft may be dangerous to the operation of the aircraft, disrupt the wireless telephone network and may be illegal. Failure to observe these instructions may lead to suspe nsion or denial of telephone services to the offender , or legal action or both. â Emergency calls Importan t: This phone, like any wireless phone, operates usi ng radio signals, wireless and landing networks as well as user-programmed funct ions. Because of t his, connections in all conditions cannot be guaranteed. Therefore you should never rely solely upon any wireless phone for essential communications (e.g. medical emergencies). Emergency calls may not be possible on all wireless phone networks o r when certain network services and/or phone features are in use. Check with local service providers. T o make an emergency call: 1. If the phone is not on, switch it on. Check for adequate signal strength. Some networks may require that a valid SIM card is properly i nserted in the phone. 2. Press and hold twice for several seconds to clear the display and ready the phone for calls. 3. K ey in the emergency number for your present location (e.g. 1 12 or other official emergency number). Emergency numbers vary by location. 4. Press Call key . If certain feat ures are in use, you may first need to turn those features off before you can make a n emergency call. Consult this guide an d your local cellular service provider . When making an emergency call, remember to gi ve all the necessary information as accurately as possible.
