Genera l informa tion 8 General informati on Ã¢ÂÂ Access codes For details about access codes and their operations, see "Securit y settings," p. 27. Ã¢ÂÂ¢ Sec ur ity code: This code, supplied with the phon e, helps to protect your phone against unauth orized use. The pres et code is 12345. Ã¢ÂÂ¢ PIN c ode : This code, supplied with the SIM card, helps to protect the card a ga ins t unau tho ri ze d us e. T o set your phone to request PIN code each time it is switched on, in the standby mode, select Men u > Setti ngs > Se curity s ettings > PIN co de request , ent er th e PIN cod e, an d se lec t On . If you e nter t he PIN code inc orrectly thre e times i n succe ssion , the SIM ca rd is blocked. Y ou must e nter the PUK code to unblock the SIM card and set a new PIN code. Ã¢ÂÂ¢ PIN2 co de: Thi s code is supplied with some SIM cards and is required to acce ss ce rtain serv ice s, su ch as ca ll cost settin gs . If you ent er th e PIN2 c od e inc orrec tly th ree times i n suc cessi on, PIN2 code blocked appears on the display , and you will be as ked for the PUK2 code. Change the security code, PIN code and PIN2 code in C ha nge a cces s cod es in the S ecurity s ettings menu ( see "Sec urity setting s," p. 27) . K eep the new codes secret and in a safe place s eparate from your pho ne. Ã¢ÂÂ¢ PU K and PUK2 code: The se codes may be supplie d with the S IM card. If this is not the ca se, co nta ct you r loca l servic e prov ider . Ã¢ÂÂ Shared memory The fol lowing feature s in this de vice may share memory: Me s sa ges , Cont acts , and Co mpos er . Use of one or more of the se featur es may reduce t he memory availab le for the remaining features s haring memory. For e xample, sa ving many text mes sages may use all of t he available me mory. Your device may dis play a messa ge that the memory is ful l when you try to use a shared memory fea ture. In this case, del ete some of the information or entries stored in the sha red me mory features befo re conti nuing. Some of the features, such as Cont acts may h av e a ce rta in a m ou nt of me mor y spec ially allotte d to them in addition to the me mory share d with other feature s.

(7) Keypad (8 ) Ã¢ÂÂ Insert a SIM card and battery Keep all SIM cards out of the reach of small ch ildren. For ava ilability and in formation on usi ng SIM card serv ices, cont act your SIM card vendor . This may be the service provider , network operator , or other vendor . This phone is intended for us e with a BL-5C battery .
Get sta rted 10 1. Press the back cover release button (1), open th e back c ove r , an d remove it (2, 3) . 2. Lift the batte ry (if pres en t) an d remo v e it (4), and c arefully lift the SIM ca rd hol der (5 ). 3. Insert t he SI M card (6) . M ak e s ure t ha t the SIM card is properly inse rted, and that the gold-colored contact ar ea on the c ard is facing downward. 4. C lo se th e S IM card hol der (7), and pres s it to lock it into place . 5. Insert the batt ery (8, 9). 6. R eplace t he ba ck cove r. Ã¢ÂÂ Charge t he batte ry 1. Conne ct the ch arg er to an ac wall outlet. 2. Conne ct th e plug from the c harger to the base of the phone . The battery indicator bar starts scrolling. If Not charging is displaye d, wait for a whil e, disconnect the charger , plug it in again, and retry . If charging still fails , contact y our dealer .
Get started 11 3. Wh en the batt ery is fully charge d, the bar stop s scrolling. Disconne ct the charger from the phon e and the ac outlet. The BL -5C batt ery pr ovid es up to 6 ho urs of ta lk time, and up to 1 8 days of st and by time . Operation times are estim ates a nd may va ry depe nding on ne twork cond itions, charging, and device use. Ã¢ÂÂ Switch on or o f f Press and hold the end key for a few seconds. War ning ! Do not switch on the phone when wireless phone use is prohibited or when it may cause interferen ce or danger. Use the phon e only in its normal operating position . Y ou r device ha s an in ternal an tenna. Not e : As with any other radio transmittin g device, do not touch the ant enna unnece ssar ily whe n th e device is sw itch ed on. Conta ct with the a ntenna affec ts call quality a nd may ca use the device to op erate at a higher power leve l than otherwise ne eded. Avoiding contact with the antenna area when ope rating the device optim izes the ante nna performanc e and the battery life. Ã¢ÂÂ Change the c over and k eymat Note : Al wa ys swi t ch o ff th e po we r an d disconnect the charger and any other device before removin g the cover . Avoid touchin g electronic com pon en ts wh i le ch an gi ng t he cov er . Always store and use the dev ice with th e cov er attac hed. To c hange the covers, do the following: 1. Pr e ss th e ba ck cove r release button (1), open the back cov er , and rem ove it (2 , 3).

R eplace t he ba ck cove r. To chang e the ke ym at, do th e follow ing: 1. Press the top of the keymat, and lift it out of the front cover (1 , 2). 2. Pull the keym at out of the front cov er (3). 3. Carefully align the bottom of the ne w key mat into th e front cover (4 ), and press the top of t he keymat into t he front cover (5).

Ã¢ÂÂ Shortcuts in the standby mode Scroll up to acc ess Call log . Scroll down to access the names and numbers saved in Cont acts . Scroll left t o write a mess age. Scroll right to aces s the demo mode. Press and hold * to act iva te the speaking clo ck. Press the call k ey once to access the list of dialed num bers. Scroll to the name or numb er tha t you wa nt , and pre ss the ca ll key to ca ll the nu mbe r . Ã¢ÂÂ Loc k th e keyp ad The ke ypa d lock h el ps to pre v ent keys fr om bei n g pressed accidentally. To lock the keypad, in the standby mode, select Menu , and press * quickly; to un lock , select Unlock , and pre ss * quic kly. To aut omatic ally turn on the keylock , see "Ph one s ettings, " p. 26. Whe n the ke ypa d lock is on, ca lls may b e po ssible to the official emergency number programmed in to your device.
Call func tio ns 14 2. Call functions Ã¢ÂÂ Make a c all 1. Enter the phone number and the area code if necessary . T o make in ternationa l phone calls , press * twic e quickly to display the plus sign ( ), add the country (or region) code, then the area code. Dele te the leading 0 if n ecessary . T o delete th e las t digit entere d, selec t Cle ar . 2. Press the call key to call the number . Scroll right or left to increase or decrease the volume of the earpiece or headset during the phone call. 3. Press the end ke y to end the call or to canc el th e call attemp t. Make a confer ence call Confer ence call (netw ork serv ice) allows u p to five people to participa te in the same call. 1. To ma ke a ca ll to a ne w p art ic ipa nt, se lec t Options > New call ; select Clear to clear the screen if necessary. Ente r the number you want, and press th e call key. 2. When th e new call is answere d, add it to the con ference call by se lecting Opti ons > Conferenc e . Redial a number To redial one of t he last twenty phone n umbers that you h ave called or attempte d to call, press the call ke y once in th e st andby mode, scroll to the phone num ber or na me t ha t you wa nt , and pr ess t he c al l key. 1-touch dial In the standby mode, select Menu > Con ta cts > 1-touch dial. and one of the following opti ons: Ã¢ÂÂ¢ On or Off to set 1-touch dial on or off Ã¢ÂÂ¢ Ed i t to edit th e 1- touc h dial list Scroll to sele ct t he num ber key you wan t (2 to 9 ), and se lect Assi gn ; ch oose if you want to assign to call or to SMS, and select the name yo u want. To dial a number using 1-touch dial, press and hold the relevant assigned num ber key in the standby mode.

Ã¢ÂÂ V oice messages (network serv ice) To rece ive your v oice mailbox number, contact your s ervice provide r. To call yo ur voice mailbox , press and hold 1 in th e sta ndby mode . You may ne ed to ente r the numbe r when calling for the first time . To change the v oice mailbox number, see "Set tings for conta cts," p. 22. To forw ard calls to your vo ice m ailbox, see " Call s ettings ," p. 2 5.
Write text 16 3. Write text You can en ter text in two diffe rent ways: tradi tio nal t ex t in put , or pr edic tiv e text i nput . To use traditional te xt input, repeated ly press the key marked with the lette r that you wa nt until the le tter appea rs. Not all characters available under a number key are printed on the ke y. The characters available depend on the Language you hav e chosen. See "Ph one se ttings," p. 26. To ente r a letter that is on the sam e key as the prev ious one, wait unt il the cu rsor appears, or press any of the scroll keys, and then enter the letter. To access the most common punctuat ion marks a nd speci al characters that are avai labl e, press the numb er key 1 .
