9 General informati on ■ Access c odes The security an d lock code con t rols access to feature s are supplied w ith the phone. The phone lock fea ture protects your ph one from unauthorized outgoing calls or unauthorized access to information stored in the ph one. When the ph one lock is on, th e only ou tgo ing calls th at can be ma de ar e to th e eme r ge nc y nu mbe r p ro gram med int o yo ur pho ne (fo r ex am pl e, 9 11 o r othe r of fi cial em er ge ncy n um be r). 10 1. Get started ■ Install and remove battery No te : Always switch off the powe r and disconnect the charger a nd an y oth er device before r emoving the covers. Avoid touching electronic components while changing th e covers. Always st ore and u se the device with the covers att ach ed. 1. To r emove th e cover, with the back of th e phone facing you. Pr ess a nd slide the back cov er toward the bottom of the phone.
11 2. To insert the battery, position the battery so the gold-colored contacts match u p with those on the phone, and insert the battery into th e battery slot. 3. Push down on the oth er en d of th e batt ery to sn ap the battery into pl ace. 4. Align the back c over with the ba ck of the phone, an d slide it toward th e top of the phone until you hear a click to lock i t into place. 5. To r emove th e bat tery, re move cov er (s ee step 1 ) and insert your finger into the finger grip, to lift th e b a tt ery f r o m i ts co m par tm e n t.

For a vailability of approved enha nce ments, please check with your dealer. Whe n you disco nne ct the po we r c ord of any en ha ncem ent, grasp and pull the plug, not th e cord. 1. Connect the char ger t o a wall socket. 2. Insert the charger output plug in to the r ound jack at the bottom of th e phone. If the ba ttery is com pletely discharged, it may take a f ew minutes before th e chargin g indicator appears on the display or bef ore any calls can be made.

Hold the ph one as you would any other telephone with the antenna poin ted up and over your shoulder. Your device may have internal and external antennas. As with any oth er radio transmitting device, avoid tou ching the an te nn a un ne ce ssa ri ly wh il e the ante nn a i s t ransm i tti ng or r ece iv ing . At the start screen, your phone is idle and standing by for activity. 1. Signal strength — A higher bar indicates a stronger network s ignal. 2. Battery level — A higher bar indicates more power in the bat tery. 3. Menu —Press the left selection key to enter th e mai n men u. 4. Cont acts —P ress the righ t selection key to e nter contact s lis t. In the standb y mode, the f our -way scroll ke y may vary w ith yo ur networ k serv ices . pl ease re fer to yo ur se rvice o perat or for detailde infor mation.
16 ■ K e yguard The keyguard locks the ke ypad to preven t keys from bein g pressed and calls from being m ade accident ally. To lock t he keypad, select Me nu , and press * wit h i n 2 seconds. To u nlock the keypad, select Men u , and press * within 2 seconds. If th e k eyp a d is lo ck ed , it i s un l oc ked aut om at ic a ll y when y ou receive a call. Scroll r ight to in crease or left to decrease th e volume of th e earpiece or headset du ring th e phone call. To answe r an incoming c all, press the cal l key. T o end a c a l l, or r eject an in coming call without answering, press the end ke y. ■ Conference Calli ng Conference calling is a n etwork ser vice th at allows you to take part in a conference ca ll with another two part icipants. To m ake a call to a n ew participant, select Op t io ns > New ca ll . Enter the n um ber y ou w an t, and pr ess th e ca ll key . Wh en the n ew call is answered, pr ess the call key to conn ect th e calls. To end the con ference call, select Optio n s > En d all calls , or press the end key.

19 ■ T raditional text input Press a number key, 1 to 9, repeated ly until the desired chara cter appears. To add a space, press 0 . To add a number, press and h old the desired number key. T o get a list of spec ial char acters, press *. ■ Predictive text inpu t Pre dict ive text in put is base d on a built -i n dictio nary w hen writin g in English. T o turn it on: Select Me n u > Messages > Text messages > Cr e a t e message > Op tion s > Prediction on ; to turn it off, select Prediction off . When using predictive text input, press e ach key on ce for a single le tter. I f * is displayed first, you need to pr ess the key to write another letter. If the displayed word is the one you want, pr ess 0, and start writing th e next wor d. If your word is n ot displayed, press * repeatedly to view other word options.
20 If ? is displayed after th e word, the word is n ot in the dictionary. To add th e word to the dictionary, s elect Sp e ll , or sele ct Op tio ns > Edit word , to enter the word (using traditional text input), an d select Sa ve . The amount of numbers and text en tries that you can save may vary, dependin g on length an d t he total number of entries in the con tacts list.
21 To sear ch for a con tact, select Co nt ac t s > Se arc h , en ter the f irst character of th e c ontact name, and h ighlight the contact you wish to view. Sel ect Det ails > Opti ons and the action you wan t to apply to th e contact. You can set your phone to a utomatically ov erwrite old messages when new ones arriv e. Voice messages Voice mail is a n etwor k service that m ust be a ctivated by your service provider. If y ou subscribe to voice m ail, your wirele ss pr ovider will supply a a voice m ailbox number that must be s aved to your phone. For m ore details about voice messages, contact your service p rovider. To listen to your voce messages recorded in the voice mail box, select Menu > Messages > V oice m ess ages > List en to voice messages . To access voice mail using speed dial, press and hold key 1. Crea te message 1. Select Men u > Me ss ag es > T ext mess ag es > Cr e ate mes sage . 2. Compose a mess age u sing the keypad. 3. To se nd the me ssa ge, in the me ssa ge editor s cree n, se l ec t Se n d t o .
24 4. To send to one recipient, select Send t o number . E nter the re ci pi en t ’ s pho n e nu mb e r; or se l ec t Sear ch to retr i ev e a n umber from your contacts. Select Send . 5. To send to many r ecipients, select Send t o man y . Select Opt ions > Add number to enter the r ecipient’ s phone number ; or s elect Sear ch to retrieve a num ber from your con tacts list. Sele c t Send . 6. To s end by e-mail, select S end to e-m ail . Enter the recipient’s e-mail address ; or s elect Sear ch to retrieve a n umber from your contacts list. Select Send . Note: Your devic e may in dicate that you r message was sent to the message center numbe r programmed i nto your device. Your device may not indicate whether the m essa ge is r eceived at th e inten ded destination. For m ore details about m essagin g services, contact your se rvice provider. Your device supports text m essages beyond t he limit f or a single mess age. Lon ger me ssa ges ar e sen t a s tw o or m ore messages. Y our service provider may c harge accor dingly. 25 Picture messages Picture m essages is a n etwork s ervice. If your wireless service pr ovider supports this featur e, your ph one comes with f ive preloaded pictures. Pictures can be attached to a text message and sen t to compatible phones. Note: The appear an ce of a me ss age m ay v ary depend ing on t he receiving device. Copyright pr otections may pr event some pi c ture s from bein g copied, m odified, transferred, or forwar ded. To sen d a picture m essage, do the following: 1. Select Men u > Messages > T ex t me ssages > Create mess age . 2. Write a messa ge (or enter n othing if you c hoose to ju st send a picture), a nd select Op tion s . 3. Select Inser t picture . 4. Scroll down through t he pictures, and select Vie w . 5. Select In s ert to insert the pictu re into y our mes sage; otherwise s elect Bac k , scroll to an other pictu re, and se l ec t View again.

Enter the ph one number for your recipient, or sele ct Sear ch to retrieve a number from th e contacts list. 8. Select Send . Picture im ages c an only be r eceived in text me ssages. Read and re pl y When you receive a message, a notification me ssa ge i s displayed, and the i con appears. 1. Select Sh ow to r ead the m essage or Exit to dismiss the notifica tion. Scroll to view the w hole m essage, if n ecessary. W hen unopened messages are i n your inbox, is shown in the standby display m ode as a reminder. 2. Select Repl y > Emp ty screen , Origina l text , Te m p l a t e , or oth er preset r eply. 3. Enter your reply, and select Se nd . Delete messa ges If your message memory is full a nd you h ave mo re messag e s waiting at the network, blin ks in th e st andby mode. You can: read and de lete messages from some of your folde rs. Para subir el volumen de l auricular o del au dífono durante la ll amada, desplácese hacia la derecha; si de sea bajar e l volumen, desplácese hacia la izquierda.
