GB 4 General information The operation o f your Mediamaste r is based on a series of user-friendly on-screen displays and menus. These menus will he lp you get the most from your Mediamaster. In addition, they will guide you through in stallation, channel selectio n, viewing and many other functions. All functions can be carried ou t using the buttons on the remote control, and some of the functions can also be carried out us ing the buttons on the front panel. Please no tice that new softwa re may change the functionality of the Mediamaster. Should you experience any difficulties with the operation of your Mediamaster, please consult the relevant section of this guide or co ntact your dealer or Service Provider. Bef ore using the mediamast er Read this before using the Mediamaster • Allow 10 cm of space around the Medi amaster for sufficie nt ventilation. • Do not cover the Mediamaster's ventilation openings with items such as newspapers, tablecloths, curtains, etc. • The Mediamaster is equ ipped with an active ventilation fa n for preventing the hard disc drive from over-heating. The positioning of the Mediamaster affect the sound level from the fan while it is removing any excess heat from the hard disc. • Do not place the Medi amaster on top of a heat-emitting unit. • Do not place naked flame sources, such as lit candles, on the Mediamaster. • Use a soft cloth and a mild solution of washing-up liquid to clean the casing. • Do not expose the Mediamaster to dripping or splashing liquids. • Do not place any objects filled with liqui ds, such as vases, on the Mediamaster. • To give your Mediamaster extr a protec tion, e.g., at a thun derstorm, we re commend that you connect it via an external surge protection device. • Do not connect or modify cables when the Mediamaster is plugged in. • Do not remove the casing. • Do not allow the unit to be exposed to hot, cold or humid conditions. • Service sh ould be carried ou t only at a Nokia Authorised Service Centre. • Please note that the only way to isolate the Mediamaster completely from the mains supply is to unplug the mains cabl e!
GB 5 Remot e control This section describes how to o perate the M ediamaster using the buttons on th e remote control. GB 7 The smart car d and CA module Gen eral In or der to re ceive s crambl ed digit al cha nnels, you nee d a C A module a nd a smart c ard, which can b e obtained f r o m a Service Prov ider . There are several different CA m o du les availab le o n the European market. E ac h of the CA modules supports a certain k ind of encryption s ys tem. The M ediamaster su pports CA mo dules that work acco rdin g to t he DVB stand ard. D epe nding on th e chann els you might want to watch , your local dea ler will p rovide you wit h the right type of CA module. Please note that a smar t card may only be val id for a sing le Service Provider and, therefo r e, for a specific range of chan nels . The sm art card and the CA module may disp lay spec ial menus that are not des c r ib ed in th is guide. Follow t h e instructions you r eceive fr om y our S erv ice Pr ovi der. NOTE: CA m odu le s a nd sm art ca rds are onl y d istr ibu ted by Ser vice Prov ider s and spec ial distri buto rs, not by N okia. After inserting a c ard, leave it in the slot permanen tly. Do not remove it again, unles s you are as ked to do s o. This is important if your Service Pr o v id e r w e re to want to downlo ad new information to the smart card, as the card has to be in the slot. The ri ght -hand car d s lot The Mediamaster is equi pped with a built-in dec od er for Conax encrypti o n. Completely inser t a Conax sm art card into the righ t-ha nd slot behind the lid of the front panel of the M ediamaster. The gold chip must face do wnwards and inwards . Only a Conax smar t card c an be used in this slot. In ser tin g a CA m odu le wi th a smart ca r d In the left-hand slot, yo u can use a CA module and a smart card (also a Conax smart card) fr om the Serv i ce Pro vider of your cho ic e. Insert the CA module and th e s mart card ac cording to the instructions provided with the m o du le. • Press the button to release an in ser ted CA m odule. GB 8 Connectin g the Medi amaster The Mediamas ter r eceiv er s hou ld h a ve the f ollow ing items: • th e M ed iam ast er • a r emote control with 2 AAA batteries • a S CA R T cable (fully connected, 1.0 meter) •a m a i n s c a b l e • a Us er Guide and a software license agreeme n t The SCART sock ets The rear panel of the Mediamaster contains 2 SC AR T sockets (see diagram). When you conn ect oth er devices to any of these sockets, alway s us e fully connec ted SCART cables (as supplied). There are SCART cables on the market wh o se pins are not all operation al and your picture q uality co uld be reduc ed if they are us ed. Prepari ng the remo te c ontr ol • R emove the cover from the battery compartment at the bottom of the remote control. • Insert the 2 AAA ( 1.5 V) batt eri es, as s hown i n the di agram. Make su re that you o bse rve the and - mar kings indicat ed in side. • R eplace the cover. Con n ec tin g t he M ed iam as ter to th e di sh If y ou need to fit the F-c onnectors on the c able • P repare each end of the cable as shown in the diagram. You will need to fold back the outer braid ( as shown). • S lide the F-co n necto r on to th e c a b le a n d then tu rn it c lockwise until it grips the braid. • Ens ure that 3 mm of the core is protruding from the end of the conne ctor. Insta lling the satelli t e d ish • Co nnect the co axial cable, w ith the F-conn ec tors f itted, from the LNB on the satellite dish to the socket marked "ANTEN N A" o n the rear pan el of the Mediamaster. • In a ddition, see the in str uctio ns provided with you r satellite dish on how to install it. Gen eral There are many dif feren t types o f TV /VCR and other equipment that you can c onnect to th e Mediamaster. In this Guide, you will see some of the most com m on wa y s to connect your equipment. If you ha ve problems w ith your conn e c tions and need help, pl ease cont act yo ur dealer . Connectin g the Medi amaster GB 9 Co nnecting t o the TV • Co nnect the SCART cab le between the main SCAR T socket on the TV and the TV SCART sock et on t he Mediamas ter. • Co nnect the TV aerial to the TV. Connecti ng a TV an d VCR Refer to your VCR’s m anual for comple te inst ructions . • Co nnect one SCART cable from the main SCART socket on the TV to the TV SCART sock et o n the Mediamaster. • Co nnect another SCART cable from the VCR to the AUX SCAR T socket on the Mediam aster. • Co nnect the RF cab l e fr om th e RF o utpu t o n the VCR to the TV aerial input o n th e TV . • Co nnect the TV aerial to the RF input socket on the VCR. Co nnecting a Hi- fi sy ste m • Co nn e ct an RC A s tereo c able f r om the AUDIO L R sockets on the Mediam aster to the LINE, AUX, SPARE or EXTR A input sockets on yo ur Hi- fi sy stem . • If ava ilable, y o u can connect a single RCA cabl e fro m the DIGITAL AUDIO socket on th e Mediamaster to a Hi-fi system that is equipped with d ig ital aud io in p ut. This ou tp ut is als o used for connecting to an external DolbyTM digital decoder. NO TE: To avoid i nterf e ren ce, you mus t use a screened au di o cable. GB 10 Installation Fir st -tim e instal latio n Once you have cor rectly connecte d the Media master, you w ill a l so have to perform a "First-tim e in stallation." During this proc edure, helpful information is displayed at th e bo tto m o f the m enus. The OK butto n always conf irms a s elect ion withi n th e menus, and pressing it will take you to the nex t s tep in the installation procedure. However, more than one value often has to be entered in a menu. Firs t, make al l nec essary setting changes. Then, confirm them all simultaneously by pressing OK. • You can al ways retu rn to the p revious me nu by pres sing back . • Use the c ursor up /down butt on to mov e upwards and downwa rds from one line to a n other. • Us e the cursor left/rig ht bu tto n to chang e s etting s. • Yo u also use the number b u ttons on the remote c ontrol to enter numeric values. • P lug in your Mediamas ter and the "First-tim e instal l atio n" m enu appe ars. • Press OK to c ontinue. Langu age • Select the desir ed menu l anguag e using t he cu rso r u p/d ow n button. This will also become th e main language fo r audio an d su btit lin g. •P r e s s OK to c ontinue. An te nna/ sat el lit e sele ct ion • Select the "One ante nna/one LNB c onfigurat ion" alt ernativ e if you hav e a s ingle anten na equipped w ith one LNB fo r rec eiving sig nal s. • S elect the "M ultis a tellite/DiS E q C switch configu ration" alternative if you have one a ntenna with two or four LNBs or tw o ant ennas w ith one or two L NBs eac h for r ecei vin g sign als fr om a combinatio n of satellites. In this case, y o u w ill need a 2-w ay or a 4-way D iSEqC sw itch. • Select the "Motor antenna configu r at ion" al ternativ e if you have an antenna m otor to c on trol your satellite antenna.
Installation GB 11 One ant enna/one L N B co nfigur ation Select th is a lternative if you have one (1 ) LN B mounted on the antenna . •P r e s s opt to view the predefined channel. Press opt to turn it off. LNB type Select th e correct LNB fo r y ou r configuration. T he most com m on values, including Universal LNB, can be selected using the cur sor le ft/right bu tton. LNB o ffset voltage If the c able from the antenna is very long, th e voltage at the LNB could be too low to chan ge the p olar izatio n. You can increase the voltage to the LNB by 0.5 V. Satellite Select one of the preprogramd s atel lites . Predefined channel Select one of the predefined channels and a djust the antenna until a TV picture from the prede f ined chann el is visible on th e screen. •P r e s s OK to confirm all settings and then carry out the channel search proced ure. Mul tisa tellite /Di SEqC switc h confi gurat ion Select this alternative if your antenna system has mor e than o ne LNB . In this c ase, you m u st f irst connect the LNBs to an external switch as there is o nly one antenna inp ut on the Me diamaster. Once installed, the switch au to matic ally selects the c orrect LNB f or the sel ect ed c ha nne l. This extern al switch is als o known as a DiSE qC sw itch . Sinc e the swit ch ca n be lo cated clos e to th e LNB s , y ou onl y need one cable to connect to the Mediam aster. You can connect up to 4 LNBs. The se lecti on of the dif ferent LNB s must be controlled by an external switch. • S elect the "DiSEq C 2 input switch " alternative if you have a 2-way DiSEqC switch. • S elect the "DiSEq C 4 input switch " alternative if you have a 4-way DiSEqC switch. • S elect the "M ini DiSEqC switch" alternative if you have a mini DiSEqC switch.
Installation GB 12 T y p ical c on nection of a two-way DiSEqC switch: • Co nnect the cable from the LNB that is intended for channels from the AS T RA satel l ite (o r T HOR) to the connector marked L NB 1 (A) on the switc h. • Co nnect the cable from the HOTBIRD satellite (or SIRIUS) to the conne ctor ma rked LNB 2 (B). • Then, connect the antenna ca ble to the conne ctor mark e d OUT on th e sw itch. • Co nnect the other en d of this cable to th e ANTENNA input a t the rear of the Mediam aster. For each LNB th at y ou co nn ect t o the DiS Eq C switc h, th e follo wing c onfigur atio n has to b e carr i ed out. As an example , th e fo llow ing se ction w ill descri be h ow t he L NB intend ed f o r ASTRA will be config ured for DiSEq C inp ut 1 (A) on the switch and the LNB in tend ed f or HOTBIRD will be configured for DiSEqC inp ut 2 (B). Switch p or t Select the input for e ach LNB that will b e co nnected. In this example, the DiSEqC 1 input is selected first. LNB type Select the correct LNB type for your configur atio n, e. g ., "Un iv ersal". LNB Offset voltage If the c able from any of the LNBs is very l o ng , it m ig ht b e necessary to increase the voltage to these LNB ' s by 0 .5 V. In mo st cas es, no thing n e ed s to be al tered he re. Leave th e defaul t value as "0 V". If the switc h do es not change between ho rizontal and v ertical p olarization, the v oltage to an LNB can be in creased later. Increase the voltage if an LNB d oes not change polariz atio n. Satellite In this example, select AS T RA because its LNB is connec ted to the Di SEqC 1 input on the switch. Predefined channel Select one of the predefined channels and a djust the antenna until a TV picture from the prede f ined chann el is visible on th e screen. •P r e s s opt to view the predefined channel. Repeat this pr o ced ure f or the s econd DiSEqC port, but this time select 2 from "Switch port" and HOTBIRD as the satellite. When the co nfiguration of both DiSEq C ports has been c o mp leted, pr ess OK . A confirmation that th e DiS EqC ports have been config ured will a ppea r. You ca n now st a r t se a r chi ng for chann e ls . •P r e s s OK to carry out the channel search procedure. Plea se ref er to the “Channel searc h” sect ion on p age 14.
Installation GB 13 Mot or ant enna c onfigur ation If you have an ante nna mot or to control your sate llit e antenna , you must co nf ig ure the fo llowing setting s. • From th e "Antenna/S a tel lite s el ec tion" menu , s el ect op tion 3 "Motor Antenna Config ur ati on" a nd press OK . Ty p e o f m o t o r • Sele ct SATSC AN ( ASTR A) i f yo u have a N oki a Sa tS can mo to r. • S elect DiSEq C (Hotbird) if the motor that you have is controlled by Di SEqC comman ds. LNB type • Select the corr ect L NB type for your configura tion, e. g., "Univers al". LNB o ffset voltage If the cable from the antenna is v er y long, the voltage to th e LNB could be too low to chan ge the p olar izatio n. You can increase the voltage to the LNB by 0.5 V. Predefined AS TRA-/HO TB I R D- ch annel Select one of the predefined cha n nel s and ad just the antenna until a TV pic ture from th e predefin e d cha nnel is visible o n the screen. Adjus ting the motor for ASTRA/H OTBIRD To co ntin ue th e insta llat ion, yo u must now d eterm ine t he angl e to ASTRA 1 or HOTBI RD. The motor and the anten na must be a djusted towards th e ASTR A 1 sa tellites a t 19.2° East or H OTBIR D sate llit es at 13° E ast as t his i s t he r efer ence setting. All other preprogra md satellite pos itions are orient e d relativ e to A STRA 1 or Hotbird. You m ust also m ount the antenna in a suitable location outdoor s. For more inf ormati on, ple ase re ad t he se parate in stalla tion instructio ns for the SatS can or DiSEqC p os it ioner. Eas t and We st limit set up NOTE: You only hav e to set one or both of these limits if the antenna is p r ev ented from reaching its East/West limit p ositions. This could be the cas e, f or exampl e, if th e antenn a is mounted to o close to a wall or in any similar situatio n. Bluetoot h passk ey The first time you want to send an im ag e to the 260 S, a passkey has to be entered in the transm itting device. By default, this passkey is set to 123456789. I t is highly recomme n ded th at this passkey be changed immediately . T h e length of the p asskey must be a minimum o f 8 and a maximum o f 16 characters. An example of one reason why you would want to change you r passk ey is tha t if y o ur neighbo ur also ha s a 260 S and neit her of you hav e c hange d the p a s ske y, yo u may s end pi ctu res to each other ’s rec eiv ers.

To r e gain access to the 260 S, you have to enter the passkey again. Imag e albu m When you send an image to the 260 S, the message "Lo ad ing image" appears o n the T V screen . Received im a ges will be saved in a te mporary fol d er o n the hard dis k. I f y o u select to exit the menu, all images will be auto matically deleted. After saving the images, you h av e to m o ve the m into any of the predefined "Albums " ( F amily , Friends, Holiday, etc.) in the "Images" folder in the Navi Bars. Within the Albums, it is possible to c reate new sub-folders (max. 16) where you can sav e im a ges. You can watch images up to 256 KB. To get th e most out of disk recording, follow thes e simple tips to keep the disk well prepared for new reco rdings. • R emember to delete recordings from the disk that ar e not needed an y longer . • For recor dings you want to keep, you c an transfer t hem to a traditional anal o g ue Video Recorder. Recordings made on th e built-in disk ca nn ot be digitally transferred to an external hard dis k. • W e suggest that y ou spend some tim e testing the f unctions until you are familiar with them.
