INTERFEREN CE All wireless phones may be susceptible to in terference, which co uld affect performance. SWITCH OFF IN HOS PITALS Follow any restrictions . Switch the phone off near medical equipment. SWITCH OFF IN AIRCRAFT Follow any restrictions. Wire less devices can cause interference in aircraft. SWITCH OFF WHEN REFUELING Do not use the phone at a refueling point . Do not use near fuel or chemicals. SWITCH OFF NEAR BLASTIN G Follow any restrictions. Do not use th e phone where blasting is in progress. ENHANCEMENTS AND BATTERIE S Use only approved enhancemen ts and batteries. Do not co nnect incompatible products. WATER-RESISTANCE Your phone is not water-resistant. Keep it dry. BACK-UP COPIES Remember to make back-up copies or keep a written record of all important information stored in your phone. CONNECTING T O OTHER DEVICES When connecting to any other device, read its user guide for detailed safety instructions. Do not connect incompatible products. EMERGENCY CALLS Ensure the phone is switched on and i n service. Press the end key as many t i mes as needed to clear t he display and return to the start screen. Enter the em ergency number, then pre ss the call key. Give your location. Do not end the call until given permission to do s o. â About your device The wireless device described in this guide is approved for use on the EGSM900 an d GSM1800 net work. Contact your service provider for more information about networks. When using the features in this de vice, obey all laws and respect priva cy and legitimate rights of others. Warning: To use any features in this device, other than the alarm clock, the device must be switched on. Do not switch the device on when wireless devi ce use may cause interference or danger. â Network services To use the phone you must have service from a wireless service provider. Many of the features in this device depend on features in the wireless network to function. These network servic es may not be available on all networks or you may have to

Your service provider may need to give you additional instructions for their use an d explain what charges will ap ply. Some networks may have limitations that affect how you can use network services. For instance, some networks may not support all language- dependent characters and service s. Your service provider may have requested th at certain feature s be disabled or not ac tivated in your devi ce. If so, they will no t appear on your device menu. Your device may also have been specially configure d. This configuration may include changes in menu names, menu order and icons. Contact your service provider for more information. This device supports WAP 2.0 prot ocols (HTTP and SSL) that run on TCP/IP protocols. Some features of this device, such as text messages, multimedia mess ages and content and applic ation download require network support for these technologies.
8 Copyright é 2006 Nokia. All rights reserved . General information â Access codes The security code supplied with the phone protects your phone against unauthorized use. The preset code is 12345. The PIN code supplied with the SIM card, protects the card against unauthorized use. The PIN2 code supplied with some SIM cards, is required to access certain services. If you enter th e PIN or PIN2 code incorrectly three times in succession, you are asked for the PUK or PUK2 c ode. If you do not have them, contact your local service provider. The module PIN is required to access the information in the security module of your SIM card. The signing PIN may be required for the digital signature. The barring password is required when using the Call barring service . Select Menu > Settings > Security to set how your phone uses the a ccess codes and security settings.
9 Copyright é 2006 Nokia. All rights reserved . 1. Get started â Install the SIM ca rd and battery Keep all SIM cards out of the reach of small children. For availability and information on using SI M card services, cont act your SIM card ve ndor. This may be the service provider, network operator, or other vendor. Always switch the device off and disconnect the charger before removing the battery. Note: Always switch off the power and disconnect the char ger and any other device before removing the covers. Avoid touching electronic com ponents while changing the covers. Always st ore and use the device with the covers attached. 1. Press and slide the back cove r toward the bottom of the phone to remove the cover (1). 2. Remove the battery by lifting it as shown (2). 3. Carefully lift the SIM card holder from the finger grip of the phone, and open the flip cover (3). 4. Insert the SIM card, so that the bevelled corner is on the upper right side and the gold-colored contact area downward (4). Close the SIM card holder, an d press it to lock it into place (5). 5. Insert the battery into the battery slot (6).

Push the back cover up to the top of the phone to lock it (7). â Charge the battery Warning: Use only batteries, chargers, and en hancements approved by Nokia for use with this particular model. The use of any other types may in validate any approval or warranty, and may be dangerous. Check the model number of any charg er before use with this device. This device is intended for use when supplied with power from ACP-7, ACP- 12 or AC-2 charger. This devi ce is intended to use the BL-5C battery. For availability of approved enhancements, plea se check with your dealer. 1. Connect the charger to an ac wall outlet. 2. Connect the charger to the phone.

Note: As with any other radio transmitting device, do not touch the antenna unnecessarily when th e device is switched on. Contac t with the antenn a affects call quality and may cause the device to operate at a higher power level than otherwise needed. Avoiding contact with the antenna area when operating the device optimizes the antenna performance and the battery life.

All rights reserved . â Standby mode When the phone is ready for use, before you enter any characters, the phone is in the standby mode: Network name or the operator logo (1) Network signal strength (2) Battery charge level (3) The left selection key is Go to (4) for you to view the functions in your personal shortcut list. Select Options > Select options to vi ew the list of available functions that you can add in the options list. Select the function Organise > Move and the location to rearra nge the functions of your shortcut list. Menu (5) and Audio (6) â Demo mode To start up the phone without the SIM card, accept Start up phone without SIM card? . Then use those features of the phone that do not require the SIM card. â Key pa d lo c k Select Menu > * quickly to lock or unlock the keypad to prevent the keys from being ac cidentally pressed. To answer a call when the keyguard is on, press the call ke y. When you end or reject the call, the keypad remains locked. Select Menu > Settings > Phone settings > Automatic keyguard > On to set the keypad to lock automatically after a preset time delay when the phone is in the st andby mode and no function of the phone has been used. When the keypad lock is on, calls still may be possible to the official emergency number programmed into your device.
14 Copyright é 2006 Nokia. All rights reserved . 3. Call functions â Make and answer a call To make a call, enter the phone numbe r including the area code if nece ssary. The country code should be included, if necessary. Press the call key to call the numbe r. Scr oll right to increase or left to decrease the volume of the earpiece or headset during the phone call. To answer an incoming call, press the call key. To reject the call without answering, press the end key. â Loudspeaker If available, you may select Loudsp. or Normal to use the loudspeaker or the earpiece of the phone during a call. Warning: Do not hold the device near your ear when th e loudspeaker is in use, because the volume may be extremely loud.

To use traditional text input, press the key repeatedly until the letter appears. To turn on predictive text input when writing, select Options > Prediction on ; to turn it off, select Options > Prediction off . When using predictive text input to enter the word you want, press each key once for a single letter, if the displayed word is the one you want, press 0 , and start writing the next word. To change the word, press * repeatedly until the word you want appears. If ? is displayed after the word, th e word is not in the dictionary. To add the word to the dictionary, select Spell , enter the word (using traditional text input), and select Save . Tips for writing text: to add a space, press 0 . To quickly change the text input method, press # repeatedly and check the indicator at the top of the display. To add a number, press and hold the de sired number key. To get a list of special characters when us ing traditional text input, press *; when using predictive text input, press and hold * .
16 Copyright é 2006 Nokia. All rights reserved . 5. Menu functions The phone functions are grouped into menus. Not all menu functions or option items are described here. In the standby mode, select Menu and the desired menu and submenu. Select Exit or Back to exit the current level of menu. Press the end key to return to the standby mode directly. To change the menu view, select Options > Main menu view > List or Grid . â Messaging The message services can only be used if they are supported by your network or service provider. Settings for text and multimedia me ssages Select Menu > Messaging > Message settings > T ext messages > Message centres . Your SIM card supports more than one message center, select or add the one you want to use, you may need to get the center number from your service provider. Select Menu > Messaging > Message settings > Multimedia msgs. , and the following settings: Image size (multimedia) , you can define the image size when yo u insert the image into the multimedia message. Allow multimedia reception , s elect No , Ye s , or In home network to use the multimedia service. Configuration settings , select the default service provider for retrieving multimedia messages. Scrol l to Account to see the accounts provided by the service provider and to select the one you want to use. You may receive the settings as a configuration message from the service provider. Allow adverts , to choose whether you allow the reception of messages defined as advertisements. This setting is not shown if Allow multimedia reception is set to No .
17 Copyright é 2006 Nokia. All rights reserved . Text messages (network service) Select Menu > Messaging > Crea te message > T ext message . Using the short message service (SMS) your phone can se nd and receive multipart messages, which consist of several ordinary text messag es. Invoicing may be based on the number of ordinary messages that are required for a multipart message. Note that using special (Unicode ) characters take up more space. The blinking indicates that the message memory is full. Before you can receive new messages, delete some of your old messages. Multimedia messages (M MS) (network service) Select Menu > Messaging > Crea te message > Multimedia. Note: Only devices that have compatible features can rece ive and display multimedia messages. The appearance of a message may vary depending on the receiving device. The wireless network may limit the size of MMS messages. If the inserted picture exceeds this limit, the device may make it smaller so that it can be sent by MMS. A multimedia message can contain text, sound, and a picture. You can not receive any multimedia messages if you ha ve a call in progress, or a game or another Java application running. Because delivery of multimedia messages can fail for a variety of reasons, do not rely solely upon them for essential communications. Copyright protections may prevent some images, music, including ringing tones, and other content from being copied, modified, transferred or forwarded. Your phone supports the sending and receiving of multime dia messages that contain several pages (slides). To insert a slide in the message, select Options > Insert > Slide . To set the interval between the slides, select Slide timing .
18 Copyright é 2006 Nokia. All rights reserved . When you have a new multimedia me ssage waiting and the memory for the messages is full, blinks and Memory full. Unable to receive msgs. is shown. To receive the message, select OK > Ye s and the folder to delete old messages. Flash messages (network service) Flash messages are text messages that are instantly displayed. Select Menu > Messaging > Crea te message > Flash message . Note: Only devices that offer compatible flash message feat ures can receive and display blinking flash messages. Audio message You can use the multimedia message se rvice to create and send a voice message. Multimedia messaging service must be activated be fore you can use audio messages. Select Menu > Messaging > Crea te message > Audio message . The recorder opens. When you finish recordi ng an audio message, enter the recipientâÂÂs phone number in the To: field to send the message. To v iew the available options, select Options . To retrieve a phone number from Contacts , sele ct Add > Contact . When your phone rece ives audio messages, 1 audio message received or the number of messages and the text messages received is shown. To open the messa ge, select Pl ay ; or if more than one message is received, select Show > Play . To listen to the message later, select Exit . Select Options to see the available options. The audio message is played through ear piece by default, select Options > Loudspeaker to choose loudspeaker to play if you want. Voice messages The voice mailbox is a network service and you may need to subscribe to it. Contact your service provider for voice mailbox number and detailed information. Select Menu > Messaging > Voice messages .
19 Copyright é 2006 Nokia. All rights reserved . E-mail application The e-mail application (network service) allows you to access your compatible e-mail account from your phone. Before you can send and retrieve any e-mail, you may need to obtain an e-mail account and the settings required. You may receive the e-mail conf iguration settings as a configuration message. To write and send an e-mail, select Menu > Messaging > E-mail > Write new e-mail . If more than one e- mail account is defined, select the account from which yo u want to send the e-mail. To attach a file to the e-mail, select Options > Attach file and the file in Gallery . When you finish entering the e-mail message, select Send > Send no w . To download e-mail messages that ha ve been sent to you, select Menu > Messaging > E-mail > Check for new e-mail and the account you want, only e-mail headers ar e downloaded at first. To download the complete e- mail message, select Back > Inboxes and the account you want, select the new message and Retrieve . Important: Exercise caution when opening messages. E-ma il messages may contain malicious software or otherwise be harmful to your device or PC. Your phone saves e-mail that you have dow nloaded from your e-mail account in the Inboxes folder, other folders may be: Drafts for saving unfinished e-mail, Archive for organizing and saving your e-mail, Outbox for saving e-mail that has not been sent, and Sent items for saving e-mail that has been sent. To manage the folders and thei r e-mail content, select Op tions to view the available options of each folder. â Contacts You can save names and phone numbers in the phone memory and in the SIM card memory. The phone memory may save contacts with numbers and text items. Names and numbers saved in the SIM card memory, are indicated by . To search a contact, se lect Menu > Contacts > Names > Op tions > Search . Scr oll through the list of contacts or enter the first letter of the name you are se arching for. To add a new contact, select Menu > Contacts > Names > Options > Add new contact . To add more details to a contact, ma ke sure that the memory in use is either Phone or Phone and SIM . Scroll to the name which you want to add a new number or text item, and
20 Copyright é 2006 Nokia. All rights reserved . select Details > Options > Add detail . To copy a contact, select Options > Copy contact . You can copy names and phone numbers between the phone contact memory and the SIM card memory. The SIM card memory can save names with one phone number attached to them. To assign a number to a speed-dialing key, select Menu > Contacts > Speed dials , and scroll to the speed-dialing number that you want. You can send and receive a personâÂÂs contact information from a compatible device that supports the vCard standard as a business ca rd. To send a business card, search for the contact whose information you want to send, and select Opt ions > Send bus. card > Via multimedia or Via text message . When you receive a business card, select Show > Save to save the business card in the phone me mory. To discard the business card, select Exit > Ye s . Select Menu > Contacts > Settings to set the following for contacts: Memory in use to select SIM card or phone memory for your contacts. To recall names and number from both memories, select Phone and SIM . To select how the names and numbers in contacts are displayed, select Contacts view . To view the free and used memory capacity, select Memory status . â Log The phone registers the missed, received, and dialed call numbers, and the approximate length of your calls (network service). The network must support these functions, and the phone must be switched on and inside the network service area. Select Menu > Log > Call duration , P acket data counter , or P acket data connection timer for approximate information on your recent communications. Note: The actual invoice for calls and services from your service provider may vary, dependi ng upon network features, rounding o ff for billing, taxes and so forth. Select Menu > Log and the appropriate list: Missed calls displays the list of phone numbers from which somebody has tried to call you and the amount of calls from that caller, Received calls displays the list of recently accepted or rejected calls, Dialled numbers displays the list of recently called. Clear log lists deletes the recent calls lists . You cannot undo this operation.

You can view the date and the time of the call, edit or delete the phone number from the list, save the number in Contacts , or send a message to the number. â Settings You can adjust various phone settings in this menu. To reset some of the menu settings to their original values, select Menu > Settings > Restore factor y sett. . Tone settings Select Menu > Settings > To ne , and change any of the available options. Your phone supports MP3 format ringing tones. You can also set your recordings as ringing tones. Select Alert for to set the phone to ring only a selected calle r group. Scroll to the caller group you want to select or choose All calls > Mark . My shortcuts With personal shortcuts you get quick acce ss to frequently used phone functions. Select Menu > Settings > My shortcuts > Right selection key to allocate one phone function to the right selection key. Select Menu > Settings > My shortcuts > Navigati on key to select shortcut functions for the navigation key. Scroll to the desired na vigation key, select Change and a function from the list. To remove a shortcut function from the key, select (empty) . To reassign a function for the key, select Assign . Call and phone settings Select Menu > Settings > Call and one of the options: Call divert (network service) to divert your incoming call s. For details, contact your service provider Automatic redial > On to make ten attempts to connect the call after an unsuccessful attempt

Send my caller ID (network service) > Set by network , Ye s or No Select Menu > Settin gs > Phone > Language settings > Phone language to set the display language of your phone. If you select Automatic the phone selects the language according to the information on the SIM card. Display, time and date settings Select Menu > Settings > Display > Pow e r s av e r > On to save some battery power . A digital clock is displayed when no function of the phone is used for a certain time. Select Menu > Set tings > Time and date . Scroll to Clock to select to show the clock in the standby mode, adjust the clock, and select the time zo ne and the time format. Scroll to Date to show the date in the standby mode, set the date, and select the date fo rmat and date separator. Scroll to Auto-update of date & time (network service) to set the phone to update the time and da te automatically according to the current time zone. Connectivity - GPRS connection General Packet Radio Service (GPRS) (network service) is a data bearer that enables wireless access to data networks such as the Internet. The applications that ma y use GPRS are MMS, browsing, and Java application downloading. Before you can use GPRS technology, contact your network operator or serv ice provider for availability of and subscription to the GPRS service. Save the GPRS setti ngs for each of the applications used over GPRS. For information on pricing, contact your network operator or service provider. Select Menu > Settings > Connectivity > P acket data > P acket data connection . Select Always online to set the phone to automatically register to a GPRS network when you switch the phone on. Select When needed , and the GPRS registration and connection are established wh en an application using GPRS needs it and closed when you end the application.
23 Copyright é 2006 Nokia. All rights reserved . Enhancement settings The compatible mobile enhancement item is shown only if the phone is or has been connected to it. Select Menu > Settings > Enhancement and the available enhancement. If available, for example, you once connected headset to your phone, you may select Automatic answer to set the phone to answer an incoming call automatically. If the Incoming call alert is set to Beep once or Off , automatic answer will not be in use. Configuration settings Some of the network servi ces need to have the correct configuration setti ngs on your phone. Get the settings from your SIM card, a service provider as a configuration message, or enter your personal settings manually. Select Menu > Settings > Configuration and the following: Default configuration settings to view the list of service providers stored on the phone (the default servic e provider is highlighted) and to select another service provider as default. Scroll to a provider and select Details to view the list with supported applications; Activate default in all applications to set the applications to use the setti ngs from the default service provider; Preferred access point to select another access point, normally the a ccess point from your preferred network operator is to be used; Connect to service pro vider support to download the configuration settings from your service provider. To enter, view, and edi t th e settings manually, select Menu > Settings > Configuration > Personal configuration settings . â Operator menu This menu lets you access a portal to se rvices provided by your network operato r. Your phone supports a digital rights manage ment (DRM) system to protect acquired content. Always check the delivery terms of any content and activation key before acquiring them, as they may be subject to a fee. Select Menu > Gallery , Themes , Graphics , Tones , Music f iles, Recordings and Receiv . files are the original folders. â Media Voice recorder You can record pieces of speech, sound, or an acti ve call. This is useful for recording a name and phone number to write them down later. The recorder cannot be used when a data call or GPRS connection is active. Select Menu > Media > Recorder > V oice recorder to start recording. To start the recording during a call, select Options > Record . When you record a call, hold the phone in the normal position near to your ear. The recording is saved in Gallery > Recordings . To listen to the latest recording, select Options > Play last recorded . To send the last recording using a multimedia message, select Options > Send last recorded . â Organizer Alarm clock and calend ar You can set the phone to sound an alarm at a desired time. Select Menu > Organiser > Alarm clock , scroll to Alarm time to set the time for the alarm. Scroll to Repeat alarm to set the phone to alert you on selected days

The phone will sound an alert tone, and flash Alarm! and the current time on the display, even if the phone was switched off. Select Stop to stop the alarm. If you let the phone continue to sound the alarm for a minute or select Snooze , the alarm stops for abo u t 10 minutes then resumes. If the alarm time is reached while the device is switched off, the device switches itself on and starts sounding the alarm tone . If you select Stop , the device asks whether you want to activate the device for calls. Select No to switch off the device or Ye s to make and receiv e calls. Do not select Yes when wireless phone use may cause interference or danger. Select Menu > Organiser > Calendar , the current day is indicated by a fram e. If there are any notes set for the day, the day is in bold type. To vi ew the notes, select View . To delete all notes in th e calendar, select the month, and Options > Delete all notes . Other options may be creating, deleting , editing and moving a note, or copying a note to another day, sending a note directly to an other compatible phone calendar , as a text message or a multimedia message. Calculator The calculator in your phone adds, subtracts, multiplies, divides, calculates the square and the square root, and converts currency values. Note: This calculator has limit ed accuracy and is designed for simple calculations. Selec t Menu > Organiser > Calculator . When 0 is displayed on the scre en, enter the first number in the calculation. Press # for a decimal point. Select Options > Add , Subtract , Multiply , Divide , Square , Square root , or Change sign . Enter the second number. To get the answer, select Equ als . To start a new calculation, first press and hold Clear . To perform a currency conversion, select Menu > Organiser > Calculator . To save the exchange rate, select Options > Exchange rate . Select either of the displayed options. Key in the exchange rate, press # for a decimal point, and select OK . To perform the currency conversion, key in the amount to be converted, select Options > In domestic or In foreign .

To view the amount of memory available for game and application in stallations, select Menu > Applications > Options > Memory status . To launch a game or an application, select Menu > Applications > Games , or Collection . Scroll to a game or an application, and select Open . To download a game or an application, select Menu > Applications > Options > Downloads > Game downloads or App. do wnloads . Your phone supports J2ME TM Java applications. Make sure that the application is compatible with your phone before downloading it. Important: Onl y install ap plication s from sourc es that offe r adequate protection against harmful software. Note that when downloading an application, it may be saved in the Games menu instead of the Applications menu. â Web You can access various mobile Internet serv ices with your phone browser. Service connection and browse the service pages Make sure that service s ettin gs are saved and activated. Make a connection to the service, open the start page , for example, the home page of the service provider Menu > Web > Home , or in the standby mode press and hold 0. You can select a bookmark Menu > Web >

To quit browsing and to end the connection, select Options > Quit . Alternatively, pres s the end key twice, or press and hold the end key. After you connect to the service, you can browse its pages. The function of the phone keys may vary in different services. Follow the text guides on the phone display. Note that if GPRS is selected as the data bearer, the in dicator is shown on the top left of the display during browsing. If you receive a call or a text message, or make a call during a GPRS connection, the indicator will be shown on the top left of the display to indicate th at the GPRS connection is suspended (on hold). After a call, the phone tries to reconnect the GPRS connection. While you are browsing, options such as Home , and Bookmarks may be available. The service provider may offer additional options. Your device may have some bookmarks loaded for sites not a ffiliated with Nokia. Nokia does not warrant or endorse these sites. Browser appearance settings In the standby mode, select Menu > Web > Settings > Appearance sett ings . Select Text wrapping > On to allow the text to continue on the next line. If you select Off , the text will be abbreviated. Select Sho w images > No , and any pictures appearing on th e page are not shown. Select Alerts > Alert for unsecure connection > Ye s to set the phone to alert when a secure connection changes to an insecure one during browsing. Select Alert for unsecure items > Yes to set the phone to alert when a secure pa ge contains an insecure item. These alerts do not guarantee a secure connection. Select Character encoding to select the character set for showing browser pages that do not include that information or to select whether to always use U TF-8 encoding when sending a Web address to a compatible phone.

The data can be your user information or your browsing preferences. Cookies are saved until you clear the cache memory. In the standby mode, select Menu > Web > Sett ings > Security settings > Cookies . S elect Allow or Reject to allow or prevent the phone from receiving cookies. If you have tried to access or have accessed confidential in formation requiring passwords, empt y the cache after each use. To empty the cache, in th e standby mode , select Menu > We b > Clear the cache . Service inbox (network service) The phone can receive service messages (pushed messages) sent by your serv ice provider. To read this service message, select Show . If you select Exit the message is moved to the Service inbox . Select Menu > We b > Settings > Service inbox settings > Service messages > On (or Off ) to set the phone to receive (or not to receive) serv ice messages. Browser security Security features may be required for some services, such as banking services or online shopping. For such connections you need security certificates and possibly a security module which may be available on your SIM card. For more information, contact your service provider. â SIM services Your SIM card may provide additional servic es. For information, contact your service provider.

The full perfo rmance of a ne w battery is ach ieved only after two or three complete charge and discharge cycles. The ba ttery can be charged and discharged hundre ds of times, but it will eventually wear out. When the talk and standby times are noticeably shor ter than normal, replace the battery. Use only Nokia approved batteries, and recharge your battery only with Nokia approved chargers designated for this device. If a replacement battery is being used for the first time or if the battery has not been used for a prolonged period, it may be necessary to connect the char ger and then disco nnect and reconnect it to start the chargin g. Unplug the charger from the electrical pl ug and the device when not in use. Do not leave fully charged battery connected to a charger, since overcharging may shorten it s lifetime. If left unused, a fully charged battery will lose its charge over time. If the battery is completely discharged, it may take a few minu tes before the charging indica tor appears on the display or before any calls can be made. Use the battery only for its intended purpose. Never use any charger or battery that is damaged. Do not short-circuit the batt ery. Accidental short-circuiting can occur when a metallic object such as a coin, clip, or pen causes direct connection of the positive ( ) and negative (-) terminals of the batter y. (These look like metal strips on the battery.) This might happen, for example, when you carry a spare battery in your pocket or purse. S hort-circuiting the terminals may damage the batte ry or the connecting object. Leaving the battery in hot or cold places, su ch as in a closed car in summer or wint er conditions, will reduce the capacity and lifetime of the battery. A lways try to k eep the battery between 15ðC and 25ðC (59ðF an d 77ðF). A device with a hot or cold battery may not work temporarily, even when the battery is fully charged. Battery pe rformance is particularly limited in temperatures well below freezing. Do not dispose of batteri es in a fire as they may explode. Batteries may also explode if damaged. Dispose of batteries according to local regulations. Please recycle wh en possible. Do not dispose as household waste.

To check th at you are getting an original Nokia battery, purchase it from an authorized Nokia dealer, look for the Nokia Original Enhancements logo on the packaging, and inspect the hologram label using the following steps: Successful completion of t he four steps is not a total assurance of the authenticity of the batter y. If you have any reason to believe that your battery is not an authenti c original Nokia battery, you should refrain from using it and take it to the neare st authorized Nokia service point or dealer fo r assistance. Your authorized Nokia s ervice point or dealer will inspect the battery for authenticity. If auth enticity cannot be verified, return the ba ttery to the place of purchase. Authenticate hologram 1. When looking at the hologram on the lab el, you should see the Noki a connecting ha nds symbol from one angle and the Nokia Orig in al Enhancements logo when looking from another angle. 2. When you angle the hologram left, right, down, and up, you should see 1, 2, 3, and 4 dots on each side respectively.

Turn the batt ery so that the numbers are facing u pwards. The 20-digit code reads starting from the number at the top row followed by the bottom row. 4. Confirm that the 20-digit code is valid by following t he instructions at www.noki a.com/ batterycheck. To create a text mess age, do the following: ⢠For countries in Asia Pacific excluding In dia: enter t he 20-digit code, for examp le, 1234567891987 6543210 and se nd to 61 4271 51515. ⢠For India only: enter âÂÂBatteryâ followe d by the 20-digit battery code, for example, Battery 1234 5678919876543210, an d send to 5555. National and international operator charges will appl y. You should receive a message indicating whether the code can be authenticated. What if your battery is not authentic? If you cannot confirm that your Nokia battery with the hologram on the label is an authentic Nokia battery, please do not use the battery. Take it to the nearest author iz ed Nokia service point or dealer for assistance. The use of a battery that is not approved by the manufacturer may be da ngerous and may result in poor performance and damage to your device and its enhancements. The suggestions below will help you prot ect your warranty coverage. ⢠Keep the device dry. Precipitation, humidity and all types of liquids or moisture can contain minerals that will corrode electronic circuits. If your device does get wet, remove the battery and allow the device to dry completely before replacing it. ⢠Do not use or store the device in dusty, dirty areas. To make an emergency call : 1. If the device is not on, switch it on. Check for adequate signal strength. Some networks may require that a valid SIM card is properly inserted in the device. 2. The PIN code supplied with the SIM card, protects the card against unauthorized use. The PIN2 code supplied with some SIM cards, is required to access certain services. If you enter th e PIN or PIN2 code incorrectly three times in succession, you are asked for the PUK or PUK2 c ode. If you do not have them, contact your local service provider. The module PIN is required to access the information in the security module of your SIM card. The signing PIN may be required for the digital signature. The barring password is required when using the Call barring service . Select Menu > Settings > Security to set how your phone uses the a ccess codes and security settings.

For availability and information on using SI M card services, cont act your SIM card ve ndor. This may be the service provider, network operator, or other vendor. Always switch the device off and disconnect the charger before removing the battery. Note: Always switch off the power and disconnect the char ger and any other device before removing the covers. Avoid touching electronic com ponents while changing the covers. Always st ore and use the device with the covers attached. 1. Press and slide the back cove r toward the bottom of the phone to remove the cover (1). 2. Remove the battery by lifting it as shown (2). 3. Carefully lift the SIM card holder from the finger grip of the phone, and open the flip cover (3). 4. Insert the SIM card, so that the bevelled corner is on the upper right side and the gold-colored contact area downward (4). Close the SIM card holder, an d press it to lock it into place (5). 5. Insert the battery into the battery slot (6).

Select Options > Select options to vi ew the list of available functions that you can add in the options list. Select the function Organise > Move and the location to rearra nge the functions of your shortcut list. Menu (5) and Audio (6) â Demo mode To start up the phone without the SIM card, accept Start up phone without SIM card? . Then use those features of the phone that do not require the SIM card. â Key pa d lo c k Select Menu > * quickly to lock or unlock the keypad to prevent the keys from being ac cidentally pressed. To answer a call when the keyguard is on, press the call ke y. When you end or reject the call, the keypad remains locked. Select Menu > Settings > Phone settings > Automatic keyguard > On to set the keypad to lock automatically after a preset time delay when the phone is in the st andby mode and no function of the phone has been used. When the keypad lock is on, calls still may be possible to the official emergency number programmed into your device.

The country code should be included, if necessary. Press the call key to call the numbe r. Scr oll right to increase or left to decrease the volume of the earpiece or headset during the phone call. To answer an incoming call, press the call key. To reject the call without answering, press the end key. â Loudspeaker If available, you may select Loudsp. or Normal to use the loudspeaker or the earpiece of the phone during a call. Warning: Do not hold the device near your ear when th e loudspeaker is in use, because the volume may be extremely loud.

To use traditional text input, press the key repeatedly until the letter appears. To turn on predictive text input when writing, select Options > Prediction on ; to turn it off, select Options > Prediction off . When using predictive text input to enter the word you want, press each key once for a single letter, if the displayed word is the one you want, press 0 , and start writing the next word. To change the word, press * repeatedly until the word you want appears. If ? is displayed after the word, th e word is not in the dictionary. To add the word to the dictionary, select Spell , enter the word (using traditional text input), and select Save . Tips for writing text: to add a space, press 0 . To quickly change the text input method, press # repeatedly and check the indicator at the top of the display. To add a number, press and hold the de sired number key. To get a list of special characters when us ing traditional text input, press *; when using predictive text input, press and hold * .

In the standby mode, select Menu and the desired menu and submenu. Select Exit or Back to exit the current level of menu. Press the end key to return to the standby mode directly. To change the menu view, select Options > Main menu view > List or Grid . â Messaging The message services can only be used if they are supported by your network or service provider. Settings for text and multimedia me ssages Select Menu > Messaging > Message settings > T ext messages > Message centres . Your SIM card supports more than one message center, select or add the one you want to use, you may need to get the center number from your service provider. Select Menu > Messaging > Message settings > Multimedia msgs. , and the following settings: Image size (multimedia) , you can define the image size when yo u insert the image into the multimedia message. Allow multimedia reception , s elect No , Ye s , or In home network to use the multimedia service. Configuration settings , select the default service provider for retrieving multimedia messages. Scrol l to Account to see the accounts provided by the service provider and to select the one you want to use. You may receive the settings as a configuration message from the service provider. Allow adverts , to choose whether you allow the reception of messages defined as advertisements. This setting is not shown if Allow multimedia reception is set to No .

Using the short message service (SMS) your phone can se nd and receive multipart messages, which consist of several ordinary text messag es. Invoicing may be based on the number of ordinary messages that are required for a multipart message. Note that using special (Unicode ) characters take up more space. The blinking indicates that the message memory is full. Before you can receive new messages, delete some of your old messages. Multimedia messages (M MS) (network service) Select Menu > Messaging > Crea te message > Multimedia. Note: Only devices that have compatible features can rece ive and display multimedia messages. The appearance of a message may vary depending on the receiving device. The wireless network may limit the size of MMS messages. If the inserted picture exceeds this limit, the device may make it smaller so that it can be sent by MMS. A multimedia message can contain text, sound, and a picture. You can not receive any multimedia messages if you ha ve a call in progress, or a game or another Java application running. Because delivery of multimedia messages can fail for a variety of reasons, do not rely solely upon them for essential communications. Copyright protections may prevent some images, music, including ringing tones, and other content from being copied, modified, transferred or forwarded. Your phone supports the sending and receiving of multime dia messages that contain several pages (slides). To insert a slide in the message, select Options > Insert > Slide . To set the interval between the slides, select Slide timing .

To receive the message, select OK > Ye s and the folder to delete old messages. Flash messages (network service) Flash messages are text messages that are instantly displayed. Select Menu > Messaging > Crea te message > Flash message . Note: Only devices that offer compatible flash message feat ures can receive and display blinking flash messages. Audio message You can use the multimedia message se rvice to create and send a voice message. Multimedia messaging service must be activated be fore you can use audio messages. Select Menu > Messaging > Crea te message > Audio message . The recorder opens. When you finish recordi ng an audio message, enter the recipientâÂÂs phone number in the To: field to send the message. To v iew the available options, select Options . To retrieve a phone number from Contacts , sele ct Add > Contact . When your phone rece ives audio messages, 1 audio message received or the number of messages and the text messages received is shown. To open the messa ge, select Pl ay ; or if more than one message is received, select Show > Play . To listen to the message later, select Exit . Select Options to see the available options. The audio message is played through ear piece by default, select Options > Loudspeaker to choose loudspeaker to play if you want. Voice messages The voice mailbox is a network service and you may need to subscribe to it. Contact your service provider for voice mailbox number and detailed information. Select Menu > Messaging > Voice messages .

Before you can send and retrieve any e-mail, you may need to obtain an e-mail account and the settings required. You may receive the e-mail conf iguration settings as a configuration message. To write and send an e-mail, select Menu > Messaging > E-mail > Write new e-mail . If more than one e- mail account is defined, select the account from which yo u want to send the e-mail. To attach a file to the e-mail, select Options > Attach file and the file in Gallery . When you finish entering the e-mail message, select Send > Send no w . To download e-mail messages that ha ve been sent to you, select Menu > Messaging > E-mail > Check for new e-mail and the account you want, only e-mail headers ar e downloaded at first. To download the complete e- mail message, select Back > Inboxes and the account you want, select the new message and Retrieve . Important: Exercise caution when opening messages. E-ma il messages may contain malicious software or otherwise be harmful to your device or PC. Your phone saves e-mail that you have dow nloaded from your e-mail account in the Inboxes folder, other folders may be: Drafts for saving unfinished e-mail, Archive for organizing and saving your e-mail, Outbox for saving e-mail that has not been sent, and Sent items for saving e-mail that has been sent. To manage the folders and thei r e-mail content, select Op tions to view the available options of each folder. â Contacts You can save names and phone numbers in the phone memory and in the SIM card memory. The phone memory may save contacts with numbers and text items. Names and numbers saved in the SIM card memory, are indicated by . To search a contact, se lect Menu > Contacts > Names > Op tions > Search . Scr oll through the list of contacts or enter the first letter of the name you are se arching for. To add a new contact, select Menu > Contacts > Names > Options > Add new contact . To add more details to a contact, ma ke sure that the memory in use is either Phone or Phone and SIM . Scroll to the name which you want to add a new number or text item, and

You can copy names and phone numbers between the phone contact memory and the SIM card memory. The SIM card memory can save names with one phone number attached to them. To assign a number to a speed-dialing key, select Menu > Contacts > Speed dials , and scroll to the speed-dialing number that you want. You can send and receive a personâÂÂs contact information from a compatible device that supports the vCard standard as a business ca rd. To send a business card, search for the contact whose information you want to send, and select Opt ions > Send bus. card > Via multimedia or Via text message . When you receive a business card, select Show > Save to save the business card in the phone me mory. To discard the business card, select Exit > Ye s . Select Menu > Contacts > Settings to set the following for contacts: Memory in use to select SIM card or phone memory for your contacts. To recall names and number from both memories, select Phone and SIM . To select how the names and numbers in contacts are displayed, select Contacts view . To view the free and used memory capacity, select Memory status . â Log The phone registers the missed, received, and dialed call numbers, and the approximate length of your calls (network service). The network must support these functions, and the phone must be switched on and inside the network service area. Select Menu > Log > Call duration , P acket data counter , or P acket data connection timer for approximate information on your recent communications. Note: The actual invoice for calls and services from your service provider may vary, dependi ng upon network features, rounding o ff for billing, taxes and so forth. Select Menu > Log and the appropriate list: Missed calls displays the list of phone numbers from which somebody has tried to call you and the amount of calls from that caller, Received calls displays the list of recently accepted or rejected calls, Dialled numbers displays the list of recently called. Clear log lists deletes the recent calls lists . You cannot undo this operation.

You can view the date and the time of the call, edit or delete the phone number from the list, save the number in Contacts , or send a message to the number. â Settings You can adjust various phone settings in this menu. To reset some of the menu settings to their original values, select Menu > Settings > Restore factor y sett. . Tone settings Select Menu > Settings > To ne , and change any of the available options. Your phone supports MP3 format ringing tones. You can also set your recordings as ringing tones. Select Alert for to set the phone to ring only a selected calle r group. Scroll to the caller group you want to select or choose All calls > Mark . My shortcuts With personal shortcuts you get quick acce ss to frequently used phone functions. Select Menu > Settings > My shortcuts > Right selection key to allocate one phone function to the right selection key. Select Menu > Settings > My shortcuts > Navigati on key to select shortcut functions for the navigation key. Scroll to the desired na vigation key, select Change and a function from the list. To remove a shortcut function from the key, select (empty) . To reassign a function for the key, select Assign . Call and phone settings Select Menu > Settings > Call and one of the options: Call divert (network service) to divert your incoming call s. For details, contact your service provider Automatic redial > On to make ten attempts to connect the call after an unsuccessful attempt

If you select Automatic the phone selects the language according to the information on the SIM card. Display, time and date settings Select Menu > Settings > Display > Pow e r s av e r > On to save some battery power . A digital clock is displayed when no function of the phone is used for a certain time. Select Menu > Set tings > Time and date . Scroll to Clock to select to show the clock in the standby mode, adjust the clock, and select the time zo ne and the time format. Scroll to Date to show the date in the standby mode, set the date, and select the date fo rmat and date separator. Scroll to Auto-update of date & time (network service) to set the phone to update the time and da te automatically according to the current time zone. Connectivity - GPRS connection General Packet Radio Service (GPRS) (network service) is a data bearer that enables wireless access to data networks such as the Internet. The applications that ma y use GPRS are MMS, browsing, and Java application downloading. Before you can use GPRS technology, contact your network operator or serv ice provider for availability of and subscription to the GPRS service. Save the GPRS setti ngs for each of the applications used over GPRS. For information on pricing, contact your network operator or service provider. Select Menu > Settings > Connectivity > P acket data > P acket data connection . Select Always online to set the phone to automatically register to a GPRS network when you switch the phone on. Select When needed , and the GPRS registration and connection are established wh en an application using GPRS needs it and closed when you end the application.

Select Menu > Settings > Enhancement and the available enhancement. If available, for example, you once connected headset to your phone, you may select Automatic answer to set the phone to answer an incoming call automatically. If the Incoming call alert is set to Beep once or Off , automatic answer will not be in use. Configuration settings Some of the network servi ces need to have the correct configuration setti ngs on your phone. Get the settings from your SIM card, a service provider as a configuration message, or enter your personal settings manually. Select Menu > Settings > Configuration and the following: Default configuration settings to view the list of service providers stored on the phone (the default servic e provider is highlighted) and to select another service provider as default. Scroll to a provider and select Details to view the list with supported applications; Activate default in all applications to set the applications to use the setti ngs from the default service provider; Preferred access point to select another access point, normally the a ccess point from your preferred network operator is to be used; Connect to service pro vider support to download the configuration settings from your service provider. To enter, view, and edi t th e settings manually, select Menu > Settings > Configuration > Personal configuration settings . â Operator menu This menu lets you access a portal to se rvices provided by your network operato r. This menu is operator specific. The name and the icon depend on the operator. The opera tor can update this menu wi th a service message. For more information, contact your network operator.

Your phone supports a digital rights manage ment (DRM) system to protect acquired content. Always check the delivery terms of any content and activation key before acquiring them, as they may be subject to a fee. Select Menu > Gallery , Themes , Graphics , Tones , Music f iles, Recordings and Receiv . files are the original folders. â Media Voice recorder You can record pieces of speech, sound, or an acti ve call. This is useful for recording a name and phone number to write them down later. The recorder cannot be used when a data call or GPRS connection is active. Select Menu > Media > Recorder > V oice recorder to start recording. To start the recording during a call, select Options > Record . When you record a call, hold the phone in the normal position near to your ear. The recording is saved in Gallery > Recordings . To listen to the latest recording, select Options > Play last recorded . To send the last recording using a multimedia message, select Options > Send last recorded . â Organizer Alarm clock and calend ar You can set the phone to sound an alarm at a desired time. Select Menu > Organiser > Alarm clock , scroll to Alarm time to set the time for the alarm. Scroll to Repeat alarm to set the phone to alert you on selected days

The phone will sound an alert tone, and flash Alarm! and the current time on the display, even if the phone was switched off. Select Stop to stop the alarm. If you let the phone continue to sound the alarm for a minute or select Snooze , the alarm stops for abo u t 10 minutes then resumes. If the alarm time is reached while the device is switched off, the device switches itself on and starts sounding the alarm tone . If you select Stop , the device asks whether you want to activate the device for calls. Select No to switch off the device or Ye s to make and receiv e calls. Do not select Yes when wireless phone use may cause interference or danger. Select Menu > Organiser > Calendar , the current day is indicated by a fram e. If there are any notes set for the day, the day is in bold type. To vi ew the notes, select View . To delete all notes in th e calendar, select the month, and Options > Delete all notes . Other options may be creating, deleting , editing and moving a note, or copying a note to another day, sending a note directly to an other compatible phone calendar , as a text message or a multimedia message. Calculator The calculator in your phone adds, subtracts, multiplies, divides, calculates the square and the square root, and converts currency values. Note: This calculator has limit ed accuracy and is designed for simple calculations. Selec t Menu > Organiser > Calculator . When 0 is displayed on the scre en, enter the first number in the calculation. Press # for a decimal point. Select Options > Add , Subtract , Multiply , Divide , Square , Square root , or Change sign . Enter the second number. To get the answer, select Equ als . To start a new calculation, first press and hold Clear . To perform a currency conversion, select Menu > Organiser > Calculator . To save the exchange rate, select Options > Exchange rate . Select either of the displayed options. Key in the exchange rate, press # for a decimal point, and select OK . To perform the currency conversion, key in the amount to be converted, select Options > In domestic or In foreign .

To view the amount of memory available for game and application in stallations, select Menu > Applications > Options > Memory status . To launch a game or an application, select Menu > Applications > Games , or Collection . Scroll to a game or an application, and select Open . To download a game or an application, select Menu > Applications > Options > Downloads > Game downloads or App. do wnloads . Your phone supports J2ME TM Java applications. Make sure that the application is compatible with your phone before downloading it. Important: Onl y install ap plication s from sourc es that offe r adequate protection against harmful software. Note that when downloading an application, it may be saved in the Games menu instead of the Applications menu. â Web You can access various mobile Internet serv ices with your phone browser. Check the availability of these services, pr icing, and tariffs with your network operator or the service provider. Important: Use only services that you trust and that offer adequate security and protection against harmful software. Service connection and browse the service pages Make sure that service s ettin gs are saved and activated. Make a connection to the service, open the start page , for example, the home page of the service provider Menu > Web > Home , or in the standby mode press and hold 0. You can select a bookmark Menu > Web >

To quit browsing and to end the connection, select Options > Quit . Alternatively, pres s the end key twice, or press and hold the end key. After you connect to the service, you can browse its pages. The function of the phone keys may vary in different services. Follow the text guides on the phone display. Note that if GPRS is selected as the data bearer, the in dicator is shown on the top left of the display during browsing. If you receive a call or a text message, or make a call during a GPRS connection, the indicator will be shown on the top left of the display to indicate th at the GPRS connection is suspended (on hold). After a call, the phone tries to reconnect the GPRS connection. While you are browsing, options such as Home , and Bookmarks may be available. The service provider may offer additional options. Your device may have some bookmarks loaded for sites not a ffiliated with Nokia. Nokia does not warrant or endorse these sites. If you choose to access them, yo u should take the same precautions, for security or content, a s you would with any Internet si te. Browser appearance settings In the standby mode, select Menu > Web > Settings > Appearance sett ings . Select Text wrapping > On to allow the text to continue on the next line. If you select Off , the text will be abbreviated. Select Sho w images > No , and any pictures appearing on th e page are not shown. Select Alerts > Alert for unsecure connection > Ye s to set the phone to alert when a secure connection changes to an insecure one during browsing. Select Alert for unsecure items > Yes to set the phone to alert when a secure pa ge contains an insecure item. These alerts do not guarantee a secure connection. Select Character encoding to select the character set for showing browser pages that do not include that information or to select whether to always use U TF-8 encoding when sending a Web address to a compatible phone.

The data can be your user information or your browsing preferences. Cookies are saved until you clear the cache memory. In the standby mode, select Menu > Web > Sett ings > Security settings > Cookies . S elect Allow or Reject to allow or prevent the phone from receiving cookies. If you have tried to access or have accessed confidential in formation requiring passwords, empt y the cache after each use. To empty the cache, in th e standby mode , select Menu > We b > Clear the cache . Service inbox (network service) The phone can receive service messages (pushed messages) sent by your serv ice provider. To read this service message, select Show . If you select Exit the message is moved to the Service inbox . Select Menu > We b > Settings > Service inbox settings > Service messages > On (or Off ) to set the phone to receive (or not to receive) serv ice messages. Browser security Security features may be required for some services, such as banking services or online shopping. For such connections you need security certificates and possibly a security module which may be available on your SIM card. The full perfo rmance of a ne w battery is ach ieved only after two or three complete charge and discharge cycles. The ba ttery can be charged and discharged hundre ds of times, but it will eventually wear out. When the talk and standby times are noticeably shor ter than normal, replace the battery. Use only Nokia approved batteries, and recharge your battery only with Nokia approved chargers designated for this device. If a replacement battery is being used for the first time or if the battery has not been used for a prolonged period, it may be necessary to connect the char ger and then disco nnect and reconnect it to start the chargin g. Unplug the charger from the electrical pl ug and the device when not in use. Do not leave fully charged battery connected to a charger, since overcharging may shorten it s lifetime. If left unused, a fully charged battery will lose its charge over time. If the battery is completely discharged, it may take a few minu tes before the charging indica tor appears on the display or before any calls can be made. Use the battery only for its intended purpose. Never use any charger or battery that is damaged. Do not short-circuit the batt ery. Accidental short-circuiting can occur when a metallic object such as a coin, clip, or pen causes direct connection of the positive ( ) and negative (-) terminals of the batter y. (These look like metal strips on the battery.) This might happen, for example, when you carry a spare battery in your pocket or purse. S hort-circuiting the terminals may damage the batte ry or the connecting object. Leaving the battery in hot or cold places, su ch as in a closed car in summer or wint er conditions, will reduce the capacity and lifetime of the battery. A lways try to k eep the battery between 15ðC and 25ðC (59ðF an d 77ðF). A device with a hot or cold battery may not work temporarily, even when the battery is fully charged. Battery pe rformance is particularly limited in temperatures well below freezing. Do not dispose of batteri es in a fire as they may explode. Batteries may also explode if damaged. Dispose of batteries according to local regulations. Please recycle wh en possible. Do not dispose as household waste.

To check th at you are getting an original Nokia battery, purchase it from an authorized Nokia dealer, look for the Nokia Original Enhancements logo on the packaging, and inspect the hologram label using the following steps: Successful completion of t he four steps is not a total assurance of the authenticity of the batter y. If you have any reason to believe that your battery is not an authenti c original Nokia battery, you should refrain from using it and take it to the neare st authorized Nokia service point or dealer fo r assistance. Your authorized Nokia s ervice point or dealer will inspect the battery for authenticity. If auth enticity cannot be verified, return the ba ttery to the place of purchase. Authenticate hologram 1. When looking at the hologram on the lab el, you should see the Noki a connecting ha nds symbol from one angle and the Nokia Orig in al Enhancements logo when looking from another angle. 2. When you angle the hologram left, right, down, and up, you should see 1, 2, 3, and 4 dots on each side respectively.

Turn the batt ery so that the numbers are facing u pwards. The 20-digit code reads starting from the number at the top row followed by the bottom row. 4. Confirm that the 20-digit code is valid by following t he instructions at www.noki a.com/ batterycheck. To make an emergency call : 1. If the device is not on, switch it on. Check for adequate signal strength. Some networks may require that a valid SIM card is properly inserted in the device. 2.
