Introduction [ 3 ] 1 1 Introduc tion This guide provides you with the following information: ⢠installation in st ructions for Nokia PC Su it e 4.1. ⢠the Nokia PC Su ite 4.1 use r guide . ⢠ins tallation in struction s for the N okia Mod em Set up app lication for 3320 a n d 3360. ⢠configuring your data/fax softwa re for digital data calls (using your N okia phone as a wireless modem). ⢠SYSTEM REQ UIREMENTS T o insta ll and ru n Nokia PC Suite 4. 1, yo u need: ⢠N okia 3320 or 3360 phone ⢠an I ntel-comp atible P C running Win dows 9 5î, W indows 98î, W indows Millennium E ditionî ( ME), or Windows 2000î Professional ⢠at least 4 0 megabytes of fre e disk spa ce ⢠an infrared port on you r desktop PC or laptop computer ⢠a compat ible PC P ersonal Info rmation Ma nager (PIM) a pplication for u se with Nokia PC Syn c Note: Nokia Content Copier (a componen t of Nokia PC Suite) supports a variety of Nokia phon es, some of which make their connection to a PC via seria l cable. For a list of compatible phones and connection methods, please see âÂÂC ompatible phonesâ on page 7. ⢠COMPATIBLE A PPLICATIONS Nokia PC Sync is compatible with t he followin g P ersona l Informat ion Manager applications: ⢠RE QUIREMENT S FOR D IGITA L DATA CALLS Before you can m a ke digital data calls using your Nokia phone as a wir eless modem: ⢠Y ou must subs cribe to digital data serv i ces w ith your service provider . ⢠Y ou r phone must be pow ered up, and digit al service must be available. Digital data calls a re not available wh e n roaming in an analog network. ⢠Y ou r phone mus t be connected to your PC or handheld device via Infrared. ⢠Y ou r data software must be r unning and must be configured to recognize your Nokia p hone as the active modem (ins tructions to follow later in t his docume nt). Note: This feature is available only if your service pr oviderâ s ne twork supports digital data ca lls. You may also be required to subscribe to digital data s ervices. Please check w ith your service provider prior to sending or receivin g digital data calls. ⢠PRI NTING THIS GUIDE Y ou may also find it helpful to print this guide for future referen ce. No other applications should be running durin g installation of PC Suite and the modem setup. Th erefore, reading this guide usin g Adobe Acrobat reader during installation is not recommended. T he preferable distance between the two devices in an infra red connection is a r ange of three inches to three f eet maximum. There m ust be no obstructions between the two devices and the IR ports of the two devices ha v e to be point ing a t each other . Y ou r Nokia phone is a Cl ass 1 Lase r Product. Enable infrared communications It is not n ecessary to enable infr a red co mm unicatio ns fo r users of Window s Millenniu m Edition (ME) and W indows 200 0 prio r to using t his featur e. The in frared port is alwa ys active . If you use Wind ows 95 or Windo ws 98, you can use the infra red cont rol panel t o activa te or deactiva te infra red com municat ions. During the PC Suite installation process, the installer application activates infrared communications on your PC. The i nfrared port on your PC rem ains active unt il you deac tivate it. T o enable infrared comm unications on your phone, please refer to the infrared sec tion in your phoneâÂÂs user guide . Interruptions to infrared communications Windows provide s visual and audible notification wh en it senses an interruption to infrared comm unications between your phone and PC. Window s allows you t o re- establish infrare d communications between the two device s so it can re-send the data that was being transferred when th e interruption occurred. If the i nfrared con nection betwe en your phone and PC has not been re-e stablished wit hin 15 s econds, a âÂÂt ime-outâ occurrs, meaning Window s no longer search es for your phone a nd terminates the infrared connection. PC Suite consis ts of the follow ing components: ⢠Noki a Content Co pie r allows you to copy data between t wo Nokia phones, to back up your phoneâÂÂs data to your PC, and erase data from you r phone. ⢠Nok ia Con necti on Manage r allow s you t o monitor the IR connection between your ph one and PC and switch to a different type of conn ect ion (cable vs. infrared) when copying data from one phone to another . ⢠Nok ia PC C ompose r allows you to cr eate new ringing t ones for you r phone. ⢠Noki a PC S ync allows you t o synchronize contacts and calenda r items between your phon e and PIM applications such as Microsoft Out look and Lotus Or ganizer . ⢠IMPOR TANT NOTE FO R WINDOWS M E USERS Y ou r phone a l so fun ction s a s a wireless modem a nd is designed to be d etected by W indows Plug and Pla y . During the PC Su ite installation process, you are prompted to enable infrare d communications on you r phone, then align the inf rared ports of the 2 devices. Because infrared is always active on your PC (including automatic s oftware installation for Plug an d Play devices), the Win dows Add New Hardware Wizard detects your phone as a new hardware device during the PC Suite installation. This interferes with the PC Suite software installation process. Before ins talling PC Suit e Nokia recommends that Windows Me users pe rform th e modem in stallation prior t o installing PC Suite. Please se e âÂÂ33 20/3360 modem s e tupâ on page 19 a nd perform t his task prior t o inst alling Nokia PC Su it e. Once you h a ve performe d the modem installation, you may continue with the inst allation instruct ions below . ⢠PC SUITE INSTA L LATION INSTRUCTIONS Nokia suggests that you download t he setup application to a location of your choosin g, rather than trying to ru n the applicatio n from it s curren t location. Note: Download time for this file (16 mb) may vary , depending on the type of Interne t connection you ha ve ( dial-up vs. D SL/cable), conne ction ra te, and Inte rnet traffic. Copying infor mation from the source phone If you select eith er the C opy da ta fro m one ph one t o ano ther or Copy dat a from a phon e to a PC options, Content Copier will transfe r all compatible data types (Phone book, Calendar , T o D o, Caller groups, etc.) from the compatible phone (or âÂÂsourceâ phone). ⢠If yo u are copy ing the da ta from t he sou rce phon e to your No kia 3320 or 3360, the data is stored in your PCâÂÂs memory tempora rily . Once you have con ne cted your 3 320 / 3360 (âÂÂtargetâ phone ) via in fr ared, N okia Content Copier transfers the inform ation from temporary storage into your phon e. ⢠If you are copying your phoneâÂÂs data and want to save it on your PC, Nokia C ontent Copier guides you through the pr ocess of saving the informa tion to a comma- separated value t ext file ( .csv ) on your PCâÂÂs ha r d d r iv e . SAV E THE SOU RCE P H ONE D ATA Once the source phoneâÂÂs data has been r ead, Con tent Copier allows you to sa ve the inf ormation to your PCâ s hard dr ive. Click th e Sa ve Da ta butt on, the n navigate to the location on your hard drive where you want to st ore the inf ormation. Nokia Cont ent Copier automatically name s the file s for you, based on t he type of da ta that is read from the source phone. Nokia Connection Manager Y ou may need to use Nokia C onn ection Ma nager t o select the t ype of connection you want Co nten t Copier to use during various stages of the process. For example, if you select Copy data from on e ph one to anot her , and the source phone uses a serial cable, click Cont ent CopierâÂÂs Conn ection button to launch Connection Manager . Then select the correct cable option for the source phone. T o switch connection type wh il e us ing Cont ent Co pier: 1 Establish the appropriate con nection between your phone and PC ( via IR , DL R- 3P, or DA U9 -9 P), th en cl ic k t he Co nnectio n button. 2 Click the desired connection type, then click Select. 3 Allow Nokia Con n ection Manager to detect your phone. 4 Click OK to retur n to Nokia Cont ent Copier . The compatible data type s a re displayed along with the ability to select the types of da ta you wish to transfe r . Use the chec k boxes nex t to th e data types to select or des elect the information you want to copy to your phone, then click Next . Use the n ote counter to the right of the Sta tus Bar t o monitor t he len gth of you r new r inging tone . CREATE A NEW RINGING TONE 1 Launch Noki a PC Com poser (click St a rt , point to Pr og r ams , point to Nokia PC Suite , then click N okia PC Com poser ). 2 Click the a ppropriate note (or r est) button. 3 Using th e insert point, click t he desired line or space on t he staff (result: th e note is placed on t he staff, and is played by you r PCâÂÂs sound card). 4 Cont inue en t ering the desired notes and/ or rests until yo u ha ve c omplet ed you r new t une. 5 Click the Play button to r eplay the ringing tone from th e beginning. Nokia PC Composer [ 12 ] 4 ⢠T RANSFER RINGING TONE TO YO UR PHO NE Once you have cr eated a new ringing t one and have save d it to y our PC, yo u can trans fer the tone t o you r phon e u sing in frared. Whe n your phone receives the new ringing ton e, it will display the message New ringing tone received. Press the Options key and scroll to the follow ing options: ⢠Pla y - plays the new ringing tone ⢠Sa ve - sa ves th e ringing t one to your p ho ne ⢠Disca rd - discards the new tone and returns you to the Start screen. T ransfer via infrared Before transferring the ringing tone to your phone, make sure you have established a n infrared connection between your phone and PC. Check th e status indicator in the lowe r right corner of the PC Compose r window to verify the status of your connection. Imp or ta n t: Ma ke sure the Set Name opt ion from the To ol s menu is checked/ena bled. This fe ature aut omatically prompts you t o name your new ringin g tone before tra nsferring it to your phone . If t his feature is disabled, all new ring ing tones are stored as Noki a tun e . T o transfe r your r inging tone , click the Update to Phone bu t ton on the toolbar (or select Up date to Ph one from th e Tools menu) . ⢠RI NGING TONES FROM MID I FILES Nokia PC Composer allows you to open Stan dard MIDI files, then convert the data to ringing tone format. N ow you can carry your favorite PC MID I file as a ringing t one in your phon e. About Standar d MIDI files Standard MIDI files of popular mu sic frequently consist of multiple instruments (bass, drums, organ, etc.). Typically , there is als o a track dedicated to t he songâÂÂs melody . There are two types of Standard MIDI files: ⢠T ype 0 files - 1 tra ck of MID I data conta ining all t he various ins t rumen ts; each in strumen t assigned t o differen t MIDI â chann e l.â â¢ T ype 1 files - each instru ment has its own dedicated tra ck and MI DI channel. Tra ck/instrument name s a re embedded in the file as t ext in format ion. PC Com pose râÂÂs interf a ce interpr ets the m ultiple track information a nd allow s you to ch oose the corre ct track o r instrum e nt. Nokia PC Syn c [ 14 ] 5 5 Nokia PC Sync Nokia PC Suite allows you to synchronize the contact and calendar information in your PCâÂÂs P ersonal Informa tion Manager (PIM) software and you r Nokia mobile ph o ne. Y ou can use Nokia PC Sync to keep i nformation up-to-date in both locations. PC Sync supports a variety of PIM applications, including Microsof t Outlook, Outlook Express, and Lotus Organizer . PC Sync also offers a wide variety of synchronization options so that you c an personalize the way you w a nt your information ma naged. Wa r n i n g : To a void any potential los s of data, you sh ou ld not make or receive calls while s ynchr onizing da ta between t he phone and your PC. Nokia PC Sync ca nnot be used while a data call is in progress. Likewise, you cannot init iate a data ca ll while s ynchr onizing da ta with PC Sync. Set general synchronization properties 1 Click the General tab , then se lect the in formation you want to synchro nize. Note: Calend ar item s are synchr onized wi th your phoneâÂÂs Re minde rs menu. 2 Click the desired option f or autom atic synchroniza tion (example : Ever y connection ). 3 Click the Advanced button to specify additional options, including resolving synchronization conflicts (see below ) SYNCHRONIZATION CONFLICTS A synchron ization conflict occurs wh en you change or edit a contact or reminder in both your phone a nd PIM between s y nchronization sessions. By default, PC Sync re solves the conflict by treating your phone as th e corr ect infor mation source. T o change conflict resolution properties, click t he option associat ed with your PIM application. Set Calendar and Contacts properties Y our PIM application âÂÂs storage c apabilities are much more e xtensive t han those of your phon e. Us e the Calendar and Contacts tabs to define the kinds and amou nt of inf ormation synchronized. Wa r n i n g : This a ction cannot be undone! Set PIM proper ties The last properties tab is label ed with t he name of you r PIM application. Use this properties tab to modify how PC Sync communicat es with your PIMâÂÂs resources. For example, if the numbe r of contacts in your PIM a pplication exceeds the phon eâÂÂs memory , you should consider creating a subset of your main conta ct da tabase folder . Use this folder to store those names, numbe rs, and text information you want to appear in your phone book. Then, use the PIM properties tab to select the location of th e new folder containing the set of conta cts you have defined for u se with your phone. Outlook users Outlook users can create folders and sub-folders in th eir Outlook da tabase files. To create a custom contact list, first create a ne w folder to store cont acts. Then copy the desired conta ct information f rom your main con tacts folder to the new folder . PC Sync allows you to synchron ize your phon e with the O utlook contacts folder of your choosing. Dial-up Networking Y ou may be using M icrosoftâÂÂs Dial-up Networking feature to conn ect to your Internet service provide r , or to ma ke a remote connection to your corporate network (including dia ling in to corporate E-mail se rver using programs such as Microsoft M ail, Microsoft O ut look, or Lotus cc:Mail). For a list of compatible phones and connection methods, please see âÂÂC ompatible phonesâ on page 7. ⢠COMPATIBLE A PPLICATIONS Nokia PC Sync is compatible with t he followin g P ersona l Informat ion Manager applications: ⢠RE QUIREMENT S FOR D IGITA L DATA CALLS Before you can m a ke digital data calls using your Nokia phone as a wir eless modem: ⢠Y ou must subs cribe to digital data serv i ces w ith your service provider . ⢠Y ou r phone must be pow ered up, and digit al service must be available. Digital data calls a re not available wh e n roaming in an analog network. ⢠Y ou r phone mus t be connected to your PC or handheld device via Infrared. ⢠Y ou r data software must be r unning and must be configured to recognize your Nokia p hone as the active modem (ins tructions to follow later in t his docume nt). Note: This feature is available only if your service pr oviderâ s ne twork supports digital data ca lls. You may also be required to subscribe to digital data s ervices. Please check w ith your service provider prior to sending or receivin g digital data calls. ⢠PRI NTING THIS GUIDE Y ou may also find it helpful to print this guide for future referen ce. Do not con ne ct incom patible products. 3 T o avoid any pot ential loss of data, you should n ot make or receive calls while synchronizing data between the phone and a PC. 4 Do not point the IR be am at anyo neâÂÂs eyes o r all ow it to i nter fere wit h othe r IR d evices . ⢠INF RARED C OMMU NICATIO NS When tra nsferrin g information be tween your phone and PC us in g the various PC Su ite applications, an infrared connection between phone and PC is required. T he preferable distance between the two devices in an infra red connection is a r ange of three inches to three f eet maximum. There m ust be no obstructions between the two devices and the IR ports of the two devices ha v e to be point ing a t each other . Y ou r Nokia phone is a Cl ass 1 Lase r Product. Enable infrared communications It is not n ecessary to enable infr a red co mm unicatio ns fo r users of Window s Millenniu m Edition (ME) and W indows 200 0 prio r to using t his featur e. The in frared port is alwa ys active . If you use Wind ows 95 or Windo ws 98, you can use the infra red cont rol panel t o activa te or deactiva te infra red com municat ions. During the PC Suite installation process, the installer application activates infrared communications on your PC. The i nfrared port on your PC rem ains active unt il you deac tivate it. T o enable infrared comm unications on your phone, please refer to the infrared sec tion in your phoneâÂÂs user guide . Interruptions to infrared communications Windows provide s visual and audible notification wh en it senses an interruption to infrared comm unications between your phone and PC. Window s allows you t o re- establish infrare d communications between the two device s so it can re-send the data that was being transferred when th e interruption occurred. If the i nfrared con nection betwe en your phone and PC has not been re-e stablished wit hin 15 s econds, a âÂÂt ime-outâ occurrs, meaning Window s no longer search es for your phone a nd terminates the infrared connection. Install N okia PC Suit e 4.1 [ 5 ] 2 2 Ins tall Noki a PC Sui te 4 .1 Nokia PC Suite 4.1 is a collection of powerful tools that you ca n use to manage your phoneâÂÂs feat ures and data. PC Suite consis ts of the follow ing components: ⢠Noki a Content Co pie r allows you to copy data between t wo Nokia phones, to back up your phoneâÂÂs data to your PC, and erase data from you r phone. ⢠Nok ia Con necti on Manage r allow s you t o monitor the IR connection between your ph one and PC and switch to a different type of conn ect ion (cable vs. infrared) when copying data from one phone to another . ⢠Nok ia PC C ompose r allows you to cr eate new ringing t ones for you r phone. ⢠Noki a PC S ync allows you t o synchronize contacts and calenda r items between your phon e and PIM applications such as Microsoft Out look and Lotus Or ganizer . ⢠IMPOR TANT NOTE FO R WINDOWS M E USERS Y ou r phone a l so fun ction s a s a wireless modem a nd is designed to be d etected by W indows Plug and Pla y . During the PC Su ite installation process, you are prompted to enable infrare d communications on you r phone, then align the inf rared ports of the 2 devices. Because infrared is always active on your PC (including automatic s oftware installation for Plug an d Play devices), the Win dows Add New Hardware Wizard detects your phone as a new hardware device during the PC Suite installation. This interferes with the PC Suite software installation process. Before ins talling PC Suit e Nokia recommends that Windows Me users pe rform th e modem in stallation prior t o installing PC Suite. Please se e âÂÂ33 20/3360 modem s e tupâ on page 19 a nd perform t his task prior t o inst alling Nokia PC Su it e. Once you h a ve performe d the modem installation, you may continue with the inst allation instruct ions below . ⢠PC SUITE INSTA L LATION INSTRUCTIONS Nokia suggests that you download t he setup application to a location of your choosin g, rather than trying to ru n the applicatio n from it s curren t location. Note: Download time for this file (16 mb) may vary , depending on the type of Interne t connection you ha ve ( dial-up vs. D SL/cable), conne ction ra te, and Inte rnet traffic. Once t he software download is comple te: 1 Double-click t he inst allation file PC Su ite 4.1 .ex e , located on your hard drive. 2 Click Next to accept t he location of th e temporary installation files, or click Ch ang e to select a dif ferent location. 3 Click Next to begi n the sof twa re i nst all ati on wiza rd , the n cli ck Yes t o ac cept the e nd-user licen se agre eme nt. 4 Rev iew the safet y n otes , th en cli ck Next .

Note: If you have a PIM application inst alled on your PC (Outloo k, L otus O rganizer , et c.) and you wa nt to u se it with Nokia PC Sync, it is recommende d that you select the s a m e langua ge used b y your PIM. 7 Follow th e instruction s provided on the In fra red conn ections scree n. 8 Cont inue thr ough the inst allation wizard , then click Fini sh to res t art y our PC . CHANGE LANGUAGE The language ch osen during install ation for PC Suite a pplies to all of th e PC Su ite components and He lp applications. If you need to change PC Suite to a different language, you must reinstall PC Suite. ⢠UNINSTA LL PC SUITE If you need to remove PC Suite (including all componen ts), ple ase use Ad d/Rem ove Pr ograms (loca ted i n Control P anel ). Re mem ber to close a ny PC Suite applications that ar e ru nning before you begin. T O REMOVE PC S UI TE 4.1: 1 Click Sta r t , poin t to Setting s , then click Cont rol Panel . 2 Double-click A dd/Remov e Progr ams . 3 Scroll th rough the list of installed a pplications, then click No ki a PC S uit e 4.1 . 4 Click the Add/Remove button. 5 Click Remove from the Nokia PC Suit e Setup window , then click Next . 6 Follow th e on-screen inst ruc tions until t he setup wiza rd has completed removin g the pr ogram. 7 Restart your computer to complete the removal process.

This capability is especially usef ul if you are upgrading to a n ew handset and wan t to transfer data from you r old phone to your ne w one. Y ou can a lso use this application to transfe r informa tion betwe en othe r 3320/33 60 phones in y o ur family . The following t able show s a list of phon es com patible wit h Nokia Cont ent Copier (other t han 3 320 and 3 360), as well as the meth od of connection to the PC: Imp or ta n t: Cont ent Copier does not support copying da ta between any of the phone s listed above. If you are copying data from one of the compat ible phones above using th e data cable, please make sure t he phone is con nected to your PC via cable be fore you begin. Launch Content Copier from the Start Menu ( Start - Pr o gr a m s - Noki a PC S u ite 4 - Content Co pier ), t hen sel e ct the task you would like to pe rform. Fo llow the on - sc reen instru ctions to complete the t ask you w ant to pe rform. The following pages con tain basic information and tips on using Nokia Co ntent Copi er . Note: Please b e a ware t hat many of the com patible phones ha ve fea t ures not found in 3320/3 360. W hile it may b e pos sible t o read this information into your PC and save it, you may not be able to transfer incompatible data types (example: To do list items) to your 3320 / 3 360. Windows ME launches the Add New Hard ware Wizard immediately upon detection of your phone via Infrared. Before proceding wit h any Content Copier ta sks, please click the Add New Hardw are WizardâÂÂs Cancel button. 33 20/3360 u sers shou ld ha ve alre ady p erformed the mode m insta llation in struction s, found o n page 19. Copying infor mation from the source phone If you select eith er the C opy da ta fro m one ph one t o ano ther or Copy dat a from a phon e to a PC options, Content Copier will transfe r all compatible data types (Phone book, Calendar , T o D o, Caller groups, etc.) from the compatible phone (or âÂÂsourceâ phone). ⢠If yo u are copy ing the da ta from t he sou rce phon e to your No kia 3320 or 3360, the data is stored in your PCâÂÂs memory tempora rily . Once you have con ne cted your 3 320 / 3360 (âÂÂtargetâ phone ) via in fr ared, N okia Content Copier transfers the inform ation from temporary storage into your phon e. ⢠If you are copying your phoneâÂÂs data and want to save it on your PC, Nokia C ontent Copier guides you through the pr ocess of saving the informa tion to a comma- separated value t ext file ( .csv ) on your PCâÂÂs ha r d d r iv e . SAV E THE SOU RCE P H ONE D ATA Once the source phoneâÂÂs data has been r ead, Con tent Copier allows you to sa ve the inf ormation to your PCâ s hard dr ive. Click th e Sa ve Da ta butt on, the n navigate to the location on your hard drive where you want to st ore the inf ormation. Nokia Cont ent Copier automatically name s the file s for you, based on t he type of da ta that is read from the source phone. Nokia Connection Manager Y ou may need to use Nokia C onn ection Ma nager t o select the t ype of connection you want Co nten t Copier to use during various stages of the process. For example, if you select Copy data from on e ph one to anot her , and the source phone uses a serial cable, click Cont ent CopierâÂÂs Conn ection button to launch Connection Manager . Then select the correct cable option for the source phone. T o switch connection type wh il e us ing Cont ent Co pier: 1 Establish the appropriate con nection between your phone and PC ( via IR , DL R- 3P, or DA U9 -9 P), th en cl ic k t he Co nnectio n button. 2 Click the desired connection type, then click Select. 3 Allow Nokia Con n ection Manager to detect your phone. 4 Click OK to retur n to Nokia Cont ent Copier . Note: If your phone is n ot detected r ight away , switch t o one of t he other connection types, then back t o the desired connection type. This forces Connection Manag er to re detect yo ur p hone . Note: If you are copying data f rom one phone to a nother and the source phone use s an infrared connection, stop t he infrared connection between phone and PC. Allow the Win dows warning m essage regarding interrupted infrared communications to com pletely t ime-out befo re align ing your 332 0/3360 w ith your PC âÂÂs in frared por t. By d oing so, you allow C onn ection Manage r to d etect you r 3320/33 60 m ore quickly .

Click Next , then click th e Select sou rce Fol der bu tton. Lo ca te t h e data ( .csv ) file containing t he informat ion you want to use. Once the source phoneâÂÂs information has been read into your PCâÂÂs memory (or loaded from your PCâÂÂs hard drive ), you are asked to determine t he types of infor mation you wa nt copied into your 3320/3360. The compatible data type s a re displayed along with the ability to select the types of da ta you wish to transfe r . Use the chec k boxes nex t to th e data types to select or des elect the information you want to copy to your phone, then click Next . Nokia Content Copier log When you have successfully c ompleted one of the Nokia Content Copier ta sks, the Fini sh screen is displayed along wit h a log of the t asks that we re just p erform ed. About Standar d MIDI files Standard MIDI files of popular mu sic frequently consist of multiple instruments (bass, drums, organ, etc.). Typically , there is als o a track dedicated to t he songâÂÂs melody . There are two types of Standard MIDI files: ⢠T ype 0 files - 1 tra ck of MID I data conta ining all t he various ins t rumen ts; each in strumen t assigned t o differen t MIDI â chann e l.â â¢ T ype 1 files - each instru ment has its own dedicated tra ck and MI DI channel. Nokia PC Syn c [ 14 ] 5 5 Nokia PC Sync Nokia PC Suite allows you to synchronize the contact and calendar information in your PCâÂÂs P ersonal Informa tion Manager (PIM) software and you r Nokia mobile ph o ne. Y ou can use Nokia PC Sync to keep i nformation up-to-date in both locations. PC Sync supports a variety of PIM applications, including Microsof t Outlook, Outlook Express, and Lotus Organizer . PC Sync also offers a wide variety of synchronization options so that you c an personalize the way you w a nt your information ma naged. Wa r n i n g : To a void any potential los s of data, you sh ou ld not make or receive calls while s ynchr onizing da ta between t he phone and your PC. Nokia PC Sync ca nnot be used while a data call is in progress. Likewise, you cannot init iate a data ca ll while s ynchr onizing da ta with PC Sync. By default, PC Sync re solves the conflict by treating your phone as th e corr ect infor mation source. T o change conflict resolution properties, click t he option associat ed with your PIM application. Set Calendar and Contacts properties Y our PIM application âÂÂs storage c apabilities are much more e xtensive t han those of your phon e. Us e the Calendar and Contacts tabs to define the kinds and amou nt of inf ormation synchronized. CONTA CT D ELETI ONS By default, contacts deleted from your phone are not de l eted from your PIM when you synchron iz e. I f you a ccidentally delete a contact from your phone , you ca n restore it by synchronizin g again. Dese lecting the Ig no re c ont ac t d ele ti ons option instructs PC Syn c to permanently delete the corresponding contact in your PIM. Choose this option only when you a re cer tain you want PC Sync t o delete the PIM contact (an d all details) associated wit h t he deleted phone book en try. Wa r n i n g : This a ction cannot be undone! Set PIM proper ties The last properties tab is label ed with t he name of you r PIM application. Use this properties tab to modify how PC Sync communicat es with your PIMâÂÂs resources. For example, if the numbe r of contacts in your PIM a pplication exceeds the phon eâÂÂs memory , you should consider creating a subset of your main conta ct da tabase folder . Use this folder to store those names, numbe rs, and text information you want to appear in your phone book. Then, use the PIM properties tab to select the location of th e new folder containing the set of conta cts you have defined for u se with your phone. Synchronizing for the first time Once you have customized PC Sync for you r uses, you a re re ady to synchron iz e your phone and PI M. 1 Click the Summ ary tab 2 Click the Synch r o nize N ow button. 3 Obse rve the synchro nization status indica tor . 4 Click the OK button when n otified that syn chronization is com plete. Then copy the desired conta ct information f rom your main con tacts folder to the new folder . PC Sync allows you to synchron ize your phon e with the O utlook contacts folder of your choosing. Y ou may consider creat ing a separate set of dialing pr operties to use when your phone is connected to your compu ter , rathe r than changin g any exist i ng se t tings. The following pages are design ed to help you configure som e of the more popu lar applications for use with your N okia phone. Dial-up Networking Y ou may be using M icrosoftâÂÂs Dial-up Networking feature to conn ect to your Internet service provide r , or to ma ke a remote connection to your corporate network (including dia ling in to corporate E-mail se rver using programs such as Microsoft M ail, Microsoft O ut look, or Lotus cc:Mail).
