Many of th e features in this device d epend on features in the wireles s network to function . PIN code s The personal id entification number (PIN) code and the universal pers onal identification number (UPIN) code (4 to 8 digits) help to protect your SIM card against un authorized use. See Security p. 65 . The PIN2 code (4 to 8 digits) may be supplied with the SIM card and is required for s ome functions. The module PIN is required to acc ess the informat ion in the securit y module. See Security module p. 93 . The signing PIN is required for the digit al signature. See Digital signature p. 95 . PUK code s The personal unblocking key (PUK) code and the universal personal unblocking key (UPUK) code ( 8 digits) are required to change a blocked PIN code and UPIN code, respectively. The PUK2 code (8 digits ) is required to change a bloc ked PIN2 code . If the codes a re not supplied wit h the SIM card, contact your loc al service provider for the codes. Bar ring pa sswo rd The barring password (4 digits) is r equired when using the Call barring service . See Security p. 65 . ■ Conf igura tion sett ings ser vice To use some of the network s ervices, such as mobile Internet s ervices, MMS, Nokia Xpress audio messa ging, or remote Internet server synchroniza tion, your phone needs the correct configuration se ttings. You may be able to receiv e the settings dir ectly as a configuration message. After receiv ing the settings, you need to s ave them on your phone. The servic e provider may provide a PIN that is needed to s ave the s ettings. For mor e information on availability, c ontact your net work operator, s ervice provider , nearest authoriz ed Nokia dealer , or visit the support area on the Nokia W eb site at ww w.nokia.com/support. Keep all SI M cards out of the reach of sma ll children. For availability and information o n using SIM card servi ces, contac t your SIM card vendor. This may be the service provider, network operato r, or other vendor. This device is intended for us e with the BL-5B battery. The SIM card and its contacts can easily be damaged by scratches or bending, s o be caref ul when handling, inserting, or removing the card. To remove t he back c over of the phone , press the rele ase button (1), a nd lift the back cov er (2). Ensure that t he gold-colored c ontact area on the SIM card is facing downwards, and insert the SIM card into the SIM car d holder until it snaps into position (3).

Align the top of t he back c over with the top of the phone (5), and press t he bottom of the back cover to lock it (6). To remove t he battery, lift the low er end of the battery out of the compartme nt (7). If the message is too large, the phone may not be able to receive it. Some networks allow t ext messages that include an Internet addr ess where you c an view the mult imedia message. You cannot r eceive multimedia messages during a call, a game, another Java application, or an active browsing session over GSM data. The postcard is sent to the s ervice provider using multimedia messaging. The service provider prints the pos t card, and sends it to the pos tal address given wit h the message. T he Multimedia messa ging service must be activated before this serv ice can be us ed. This feature may not be available, depending o n your phone. Before you can use the p o stca rd service , you must subscribe to the service. To chec k the availabilit y and costs, and to subsc ribe to the se rvice, contact your network operator or service provider, from whom you also rece ive your unique ID, password, and se ttings. To set the r equired settings for the instant me ssaging service, see Connect. settings in Access the IM men u p. 37 . The ic ons and texts on the display may vary, depending on the instant mes saging service. Depending on the network, the activ e instant messagin g conve rsation may consume the phone battery faster, and you may need to connect the phone to a charger. Access the IM menu To access the menu while still of f line, select Men u > Messaging > Instant messages . This e-mail applicat ion is different from t he SMS and MMS e- mail function. Your phone supports PO P3 and IMAP4 e-mail server s. Before you can s end and retrieve any e-mail, you may need to do the following: • Obtain a new e -mail account or use the current one. For availability of y our e-mail account , contact your e - mail service provider. • For the set tings required for e- mail, contact your e-mail service pr ovider. The phone memory may save contacts with numbers and text items. You can also save an ima ge for a c ertain number of names. Names and numbers saved in the SIM c ard memory are indicated by . ■ Search for a conta ct Select Menu > Contacts > Names . Scroll through the list of co ntacts, or enter the f irst letter of the name for which you are searching. ■ Sav e name s and phon e num bers Names and numbers ar e saved in the used memory. When you have rec eived a bus iness card , sele ct Show > Save to save t he business card in the phone memory. To discard the business card, select Exit > Ye s . ■ My p res ence With the presence serv ice (network service) you can share your pr esence stat us with other us ers with compatible devices and acce ss to the se rvice. Presence status includes your availability, s tatus message , and personal logo. Other users who have a ccess to the service and who reques t your information are able to see your status. The requested information is shown in Subscribed names in t he viewers’ Contacts menu. You can personalize the inf ormation that you want to share w ith others and c ontrol who can see your status. Before you c an use presence, you must subs cribe to the s ervice. To check the ava ilability and costs, and to subscribe to t he service , contact your network operato r or service provide r, from whom you also receive your unique ID, password, and the settings for the s ervice. See Configuration p. 64 .

Any spoken words, such as a name , can be a voice t ag. The number of v oice tags you can create is limited. Before usin g voice tag s , note the following: • Voi ce tag s are not langua ge-dep endent . They a re depe ndent o n the sp eake r's voice . • You must say the name exa ctly as you said it when you reco rded it. • Voice tags are s ensitive to background noise. Record voice tag s and use them in a quie t environment. • Very short n ames are not ac cepted. Use lo ng names and avoid simi la r name s for differen t nu mbers . Make a call with a voice tag If the phone has an application running that is sending or receiv ing data using a packet da ta connection, you must end t he application before voice dialing. 1. In t he standby mode, pr ess and hold t h e volume down key. A short tone is heard, and Speak now is displayed. 2. Say t he voice tag clearly. The phone plays the recogniz ed voice tag, and dials the phone number of the voice tag after 1.5 seconds. If you are using a compatible headset with t he headset key , press and hold t he headset ke y to start th e voice dialing. ■ Speed dials To assign a n umbe r to a s peed-dialing key, select Menu > Contac ts > Speed dials , and s croll to the speed- dialing number that y ou want. Select Assign , or if a number has already been assigned t o the key, selec t Options > Change . Se lect Search , t he name, then the number you want to assign. Setting s ■ Profile s Your phone has v arious setting groups, c alled profiles, for which you can cus tomize the phone tones for different events a nd environments. Select Menu > Setting s > Profil es . Scroll to a profile, and select it. To activate the selected profile, sel ect A ctivate . To set the pr ofile to be act ive until a ce rtain time up to 24 hours, select Timed , and set t he time the profile setting shall end. When the time s et for the profile expires, t he previous prof ile that was not timed becomes active. To personalize the profile, s elect Personalise . Select the se tting you want to change , and make the changes. To change your pr esence st atus information, sel ect My presence > My availability or My presence message . The My pres ence menu is available if you set Synchronise with profiles to On . The applications that may us e packet data are MMS, browsing s essions, e-mail, remot e SyncML, Java application downloading, pus h to talk, in stant messaging, and the PC dial-up. To define how to use t h e service, select Men u > Settings > Connectivity > P ack et data > Packet data connection . You ca n store configuration s ettings from up to 20 ser vice providers in the phone and manage them within this menu. To set the a larm, select Alar m time , and enter the alarm time. To change the a larm time when the alar m time is set, sele ct On . To set the phone to alert you on select ed days of the w eek, sele ct Repeat alarm . To select the alarm tone or set a radio station as the alarm tone, selec t Alarm tone . If you s elect the radio as an alarm tone, connect t he headset to the phone. The phone uses the last station you listened to as the alarm, and the alarm pla ys through the louds peaker. If you remove the hea dset or switch off the phone, the default alarm tone replace s the radio. To set a snooze time-out, s elect Snooze time-out . Stop the alarm The phone s ounds an alert t one, and flashes Alarm! and t he current time on the display, ev en if the phone was switched off . To stop the ala rm, select Stop . If y ou let the phone c ontinue t o sound the alarm for a minute or sel ect Snooze , the alarm s tops for the s elected snooze time-out and then resumes. If the alarm time is reached while the de vice is switched off, the device s w itche s itself on and start s soundin g the alarm tone . If you sele ct St op , the d evice asks whether you want to activate the devi ce for calls . S elect No to switch o ff the device or Ye s to make and rece ive calls. Do not select Ye s when wirele ss pho n e us e may cause inte rference or da nger.

While view ing a note, you can also select an opt ion to edit the deadline or pri ority for the note or mark the note as done. ■ Notes To use this applic ation for w riting and sending notes, select Menu > Or ganiser > Note s . To cr eate a note if no note is added, select Add note; otherwise, select Options > Make a not e . Write a note, and sel ect Save . Other options f or notes include deleting a nd editing a note. While editing a note, you can als o exit the text editor without saving the changes. You can send th e note to compat ible devices us ing a text messa ge, a multimedia messa ge, or IR. ■ Sync hroniza tion Synchronization allows you to save your ca lendar and Contacts data on a remote Internet server (network service) or on a compatible PC. If you have saved data on the remote Internet ser ver, to synchronize your phone, start the synchronization f r om your phone. To sy nchr onize the data in t he phone contact s, calendar, and notes to cor respond with the dat a of your compat ible PC, start the synchronization from the PC. The contact data in your SIM card is not synchronized. Answering an incoming call during synchronization ends the synchronization, and you mus t re start it. Server s y nchr onization Before synchronizing fr om your phone, you must do the following: • Subscribe to a s ynchronization service . For details, contact your service provider. • Retrieve t he synchronization set tings from your ser vice provider. Se e Synchronization settings p. 75 . When 0 is displayed on the screen, ent er the first number in the calculation. Pr ess # for a de cimal point. Select Options > Add , Subtract , Multiply , Divide , Square , Squar e root , or Change sign . Ent er the second numbe r, if needed. For a total, select Equals . Repeat this sequence as many times as it is necessary. To start a new calculation, s elect and hold Clear . To perform a currency conversion, select Menu > Organiser > Calculat or . To save t he exchange rate, se lect Options > Exc hange rate . Selec t either of the displayed options . Enter the ex change rate, press the # key for a decimal point, and select OK . The exchange r ate remains in the memory until you replace it with another one. To perform the currenc y conv ersion, enter the amount t o be conver ted, and s elect Options > In domestic or In foreign . ■ Stopw atch To measure time, take i ntermediate times, or t ake lap times , use the s topwatch. During t iming, the other functions of t he phone can be used. To s et the stopwatch t iming in the back ground, press the end key. Using the st o pwatch or a llow i ng it to run in the backgro un d when usi n g othe r features increa ses the demand on b attery powe r and re duces the ba ttery l ife. Select Menu > Organiser > Stopwatch and from t he following options: Split timing — to take intermediate t imes. To start th e time observat ion, select Start . Selec t Split every t ime that you wa nt to take an intermediate t ime. To st op the time obser vation, select Stop . To save t he measured time, select Save . To start the t ime observation again, select Options > Star t . The new time is added to the previous t ime. To reset the t ime without saving it , select Reset . To set the stopwatch t iming in the background, press th e end key.

80 Copyright © 2006 N okia. All rights reserved. 15. Push to talk Push to talk (PTT ) over cellular is a two-way radio service available o ver a GSM/GPRS cellular network (networ k service). PTT provides direct voice c ommunication. To connect, press and hold the volume up (PTT) key. You can use PTT to have a conversation with one person or wit h a group of people having compatible devices. When your c all is connected, t he person or gr oup you are calling does not have to answer the phone. The participants should conf irm the rece ption of any communicat ions where appropriat e, as there is no other confirmation whet her the recipients have heard t he call. To check availability and costs, and t o subscribe to t h e service, contact your s ervice provider. Roaming services may be more li mited than for nor mal calls. Before you c an use the PTT s ervice, you must define the required PTT service s ettings. See P TT settin gs p. 87 . While you are connected to the PTT serv ice, you ca n use the other f unctions of the phone . The PTT over c ellular service is not connected t o traditional voice communicat ion, and therefore many of the services available for traditional voice calls (for example , voice mailbox) are not avail able fo r PTT over cellular communicat ions. ■ Pus h to ta lk me nu Select Menu > Push to talk . Warn ing: Do not ho ld the device near you r ear when the lou dspeaker is i n use, becau se the volume may be extremel y loud. When connec ted to the PTT service, you ca n make or receive dial- out calls, channel calls , or one-to- one calls. One-to-one c alls are cal ls you make to only one person. Make a dial-o ut PTT call For a dial-out PTT call you c an select multiple PTT contacts from the contact list. T he recipients get an inc oming call and need to acce pt the call in order to participat e. A dial-out call creates a t emporary channel, and t he participants join this channel only for the duration of t he call. After the call, t he temporary dial- out channel is deleted.

To make a call t o a non-defa ult channel, s elect Channel list in the PTT menu, scroll to t he desired channel, and press and hold the volume up (PTT) key . Press and hold the volume up (PTT) key the entire t ime you are talking, and hold the phone in front of you so that you ca n see the dis play. When you hav e finished, releas e the volume up (PTT) key. Talking is allowed on a first-come, first-served basi s. When someone stops talking, the first pe rson to press t he volume up (PTT) key can talk next. Make a one-t o-one call To start a one-to-one call from the list of c ontacts to which you have added t he PTT address, select Co nta ct s list . W hen receiving a one-to-one call fr om a person whose information you have saved in Contacts , the saved name is displayed if identified; ot herwise, only the nickname of t he caller is displayed. You can eit her accept or r eject an incoming one- to-one call if you have set t he phone to f irst notify you of t he one-to-one calls . If you press and hold the volume up (PTT) key t o try to respond t o a channel while another member is talking, you hear a queuing tone, and Queui ng is displayed as long as you press t he volume up (PTT) key . Press and hold the volume up (PTT) key, and wait for the ot her person to finish; t hen you can talk. ■ Cal lback req uests If you make a one-t o-one call and do not get a r esponse, you can send a reques t for the person to ca ll you back. When someone sends you a callback request, Callback request received is displayed in the standby mode. When you receive a callback request from some one who is not in your contacts list, you can sav e the name t o your Contacts .

Each member in the channel is identified by a nickname, which is shown as a caller identification. Channel members can choose a nickname f or themselves in each channe l. Channels are regis tered with a UR L address. One use r registers the channel URL in the network by joining t he channel session the first t ime . There are three types of PTT channels: • Provisione d channels are closed channels th at allow only s elected partici pants provisioned by the service provider to join. • Ad hoc channels are channels that the us ers can create. You ca n create your own cha nnel, and invite members to the channel. • Ad hoc pro channels are c hannels you can creat e from members in a provisioned channe l. For example, a business can have a closed cha nnel and separat e channels create d for certain bus iness functions.

Only the person w ho creates the privat e channel can invit e more member s to the channel. Enter the name for the cha nnel. Select Default , Liste ned , or Inactive . The phone indicates that the channel is saved and its s tatus. Default and Listened are active channels. When y ou press and hold t he volume up (PTT) key to make a c hannel call, th e default channel is called if you have not s crolled to any ot her channel or contact . To send an inv itation to the channel, select Ye s when the phone requests it. You can send the i nvitation using a text message o r IR. The members you invite to the public channels can also invite more members to t he channel. Manual — to join an existing channel. Ent er the c hannel address. Select Default , List ened , or Inac tive . The phone indicates that the channel is saved and its s tatus. Default and Listened are active channels. When you press and hold the volume up (PTT) key to make a channe l call, t he default channel is called if you have not scrolled to any other channel or c ontact. Receive an invitation 1. Before changing an y certificate setti ngs, you mus t make sure that you really trust the o wner of the certificate and that the certifica te really belongs to the listed owner. There are three kinds of certificates: server certifica tes, author ity certificat es, and user cer tificates. You may receive t hese certificate s from your servic e provider. Authority certifi cates and user cer tificates may als o be saved in the security module by the service provider. To view the list of the a uthority or us er certificat es downloaded into y our phone, select Menu > Web > Settings > Security settings > Authority cer tificates or User c ertificates . The security indicator is displayed during a co nnection, if the data t ransmission between t he phone and the content server is encr ypted. The secu rity icon does not indicate th at the data trans mission be tween the gatew ay and the conten t s erver (o r place where the reques ted resource is stored ) is s ecure. U sing the digital signature can be the same as signing your name to a paper bill , contract, or ot her document. To make a digital signature, select a link on a page, for example, the title of the book you want t o buy and its price. The t ext to sign, w hich may include the amount and dat e, is shown. Check that the header text is Read and that the di gital signature icon is shown. If the digital s ignature icon doe s not appear, ther e is a securit y breach, and y ou should not enter any personal data such as your signing PIN. To sign the text, read all of t he text first, and select Sign . The text may not fit wit hin a single sc reen. Therefore, make sure to scroll through and read all of the text bef ore signing. Select the user certificate y ou want to us e. Enter the signing PIN (see Acce ss codes p. 13 ), and select OK . If you miss the r equest, the phone automatically accepts or rejects it according to what you have agreed with your network operator or service provider.
