Enter the pho ne number, i nclu ding th e area co de, then press ( Call ). To end a call press ( End ). To answer a call press ( Answ er ). EMERGE NCY CA L LS Ensure the phone is switched on and in service. Press and hold two times for several seconds, to clear the display. Enter the emergency number, t hen press ( Call ). Give your lo cation. Do not end the c all until told to do so. About Labels on your Phone Your phone has labels on it. These ar e importan t f or s ervice and r e- lated purposes, so be careful no to lose the label or the information it cont a ins. Security C ode The factory setting for the s ecurity code is 12345. Change the code, see âÂÂSecurity Settings - Change Access CodesâÂÂ, and kee p the new code secret and in a safe place, separate fro m the phone. Using This Guide The wireless phone described in this guide is approved for use on the GSM n etwo rk. A number of features included in this guide are called Network Services. They are special serv ices provided by wireless service pr o- viders. Before you can take advantage of a ny of these Network Serv- ices, you must subscribe to these service(s) from you r home service provider and obtain instructions for their use.

Getting the Phone ready for Us e Befor e you can use yo ur phon e, y o u fir st need to ⢠install a valid miniature SIM card in the phone and ⢠charge the battery. Installing the SI M card ⢠Keep all miniature SIM cards out of th e reach of sm all children. ⢠The SIM card and its contacts can easily be damaged by scratch- es or bending, so be careful when handling, inserti ng or remov- ing the card. ⢠Before installing the SIM card, always make sure that the phone is switched off and th en remove the battery. 1 At the back of the phone, press the locking catch of the bat- tery (1.), slide the battery downwards (2.) and lift it (3.) off the phone. 2 Open the co ve r for the SI M card reader by sliding it in the direction âÂÂOpenâ (4.) and lif t- ing it (5.).

All Righ ts Reserved. 3 Inse rt t he S IM ca rd (6 .) ens ur - ing that the bevelled corne r is upwards and that the golden connectors on the card are fac- ing the connectors on th e phone. 4 Close the cover of the SIM card reader (7.) and slide the card holder back to keep the card in its place (8.). 5 Attach the bat tery by placing it on the bac k of the phone and sliding it upwards until it locks into place. Charging the Batte ry 1 Connect the lead from the charger to the bottom of the phone. 2 Connect the charger to an AC wall outlet and the bat- tery indicator bar starts to scroll. The Charging text is briefly displayed if the phone is switched on. The phone can be used while charging if the phone is on. Not e: If the battery is totally flat, it may take a few minutes before the charging indication appears o n the display .

All Rights Reserved. 11 3 The battery is fully charged when the battery indicator bar stops scrolling, and the Battery full text is briefly displayed if th e phone is on. Charging time depends on t he char ger and ba ttery used. For ex- ample, charging a BMS-2 bat tery with the ACP-7 ch arger takes about four hour s. 4 Disconnect the charger f rom the AC outlet an d the phone. If Not charging is displayed, charging is suspended. Wait for a while, disconnect the charger, plug it in again and retry. If charging still fails, contact your dealer. If the phone asks for a PIN code: The PIN code is usually supplied with the SIM card. ⢠Key in the PI N code, which is displayed as aste risks â± , and press ( OK ). See als o âÂÂRefe rence Info rmation - Access CodesâÂÂ. If the phone asks for a security code: See âÂÂFor Your Safety - Security CodeâÂÂ. ⢠Key in the security code , which is dis- played as asterisks â± , and press ( OK ). Warn in g! Do not switch on the phone when wireless phone use is prohibited or when it may cause interference or dan- ger. As with any other radio transmitting device, do not touch the antenna u nnecessarily wh en the phone i s switched on. Contact with the ante nn a aff ects call quality and may cause the phone to operate at a higher pow er level than otherwise neede d.

All Rights Reserved. 13 The Displ ay Ind icators The indicators described below are sh own when the phone is ready for us e, with no characters entered by th e user. This is a lso called âÂÂa clear displayâÂÂ. Operator indicates in which cellular networ k the phone is currently u sed. and bar Shows the signal strength of the cellular network at your current location. The higher th e bar, the stronger th e signal. and bar Shows the battery charge level. The higher the bar, the more power in the batter y. Using th e Keys Navi Key The use of the phone is largely based on the Nokia Navi TM Key, , below the display. The func- tion of this Nokia Navi TM Key, , varies according to the guiding text shown above the key on the display. Throughout this u serâÂÂs guide, to- gether with the Nokia Navi TM Key the relevant guiding tex t is also mentioned, e.g. ( Menu ) or ( Select ).
14  1998 Nokia Mobile Phones. All Righ ts Reserved. Scroll Keys Scroll keys are used to browse through menus, submenus and settings and to move the cursor to the right or left. Tips: With clear display, press once to access the names & phone numbers stored in Ph one Book. With clear display, press once to access the list of last dialled numbers. During a call, press the ke ys to adjust the earpiece volume. The C Key ⢠Use to delete a character to the left of the cursor, ⢠to clear all the characters keyed in from the display (press and hold), ⢠to return from a submenu to the previous menu level in the me nu facility, ⢠to exit the m enu facility, ⢠to reject an incoming call.

Correct keying mistakes by pressing to delete the last character to the left. 2 Press ( Call ) and wait for the an- swer. The text Call changes to End . 3 Press ( End ) to finish the call (or to cancel the call attempt). Normal po sition: Hold the phone as you would any other telephone with th e antenna pointed up and over your shoulder. International Calls 1 Press twice for the international prefix ( character replac- es the international access code). 2 Enter the country code, area code and the phone numbe r. 3 To call the number, press ( Call ). Note: When you are using the phone with the CARK-91 car kit, you can switch f rom handsfree mode to pr ivacy mode by pick ing up t he ex tern al ha nd set HS U -1. To switch ba ck to handsfr ee, firs t press and then put down the handset within 15 secon ds.

Press to increase and to decrease the volume level. Last Number R edial The last eight phone n umbers you called or attempted to call are stored in the ph oneâÂÂs memory. To r edial one of these last-dialled numbe rs: 1 With display clear, press once to ac- cess the list of the last-dialled numbers. 2 Use or to reach the desired numbe r. 3 Press ( Call ). Storing a Name and Phone Number in Phone Book 1 Press ( Menu ) to access th e menu facility. 2 With Phone book displayed, press ( Select ). 3 U s e o r t o r e a c h Add entry and press ( Select ). Name: prompt will be displayed. 4 Key in the desired name as follows: Press the key labelled wi th the character you wa nt: Once f or t he fi rst c harac te r, twice (before the cursor appears) f or the second and s o on.

All Rights Reserved. 17 The available character set depends on the language selected in menu 4-2- 1. ⢠Press a key - repeatedly to find characters, e. g. for ch aracters . , ? ! - & 1 an d gives a spa ce, ⢠switches between upper and lower ca se characters. The ABC or abc indicator is s hown on the display r espec- tively. ⢠Press and hold to switch between characters and number s. The ABC ( abc ) or 123 indicator is shown on the display respectively. ⢠You can also add a number by pressing and holding the re- spective number key for a second. ⢠When t he fl a s hi n g curs or ap p ears , you can ent e r the nex t c ha r- acter . ⢠Press or to move the cursor. ⢠Press to bring up a list of special characte rs . The ?!ã indicator is shown . Use or to reach the desired char- acter and press ( Use ) to add it in the name. 5 When you have written the name, pres s ( OK ). Number: prompt will be displayed. 6 Key in the country code (if necessary), area code and phone number. Tip: If you ke y in the character f or the international prefix (by pressing twice) in front of the country code, you can use the p hone number wh en calling from abroad. 7 Press ( OK ). The name a nd phone number are stored in Phone book.

Making a Call Using the Memory 1 Press ( Menu ). 2 With Phone book displayed, press ( Select ). 3 Press ( Sele ct ) to choose Search . 4 Key in the first letter(s) of the name and press ( OK ). You can s kip this step if you like. 5 Use and to reach the desired name. You can check the phone number by pressing and holding . 6 Press ( Call ). Tip: A qui ck way to acc ess the Ph one Boo k With the display clear, press . The first name (and phone number) in phone book will be displayed. Tip: The names and phone numbers assigned to the speed dial keys 1 t o 9 can be speed dia lled via the number keys to .

All Rights Reserved. 19 Rece iv ing a Ca ll When somebody is calling you, the phone will ring and flash the callerâÂÂs name or phone number or the text Call . ⢠To answer the call, press ( Answer ). Tip: T o reject an incoming call, press . If the Divert when busy function is activated to divert the calls, e.g. to your voice mailbox, rejecting an incoming call will also di- vert the call. See âÂÂCa ll Divert (menu 5)â . Note: If more than one name is f ound in the phone book with the same las t seven digits as th e callerâÂÂs phone number , only the callerâÂÂs phone number will be displayed, if available.

Other Essential Functions Selecting a Ringing Tone 1 Press ( Menu ). 2 Use o r t o reac h Tones and press ( Select ). 3 Use o r t o reac h Ringing tone and press ( Se- lect ). 4 Use or to reac h the rin ging tone you prefer . The phone gives you a ringing sample. Press ( OK ) to select it. 5 Press and hold to exit th e menu. Settin gs for Desi red Usage Situa tions (Quick aler t se ttin gs) Adjust the tones including, e .g. ringing tone, keypad tones, war ning tones, for different operating situations. All you need to do is select the desired option from the available list, e.g. Loud for outdoor us- age of the phone. 1 With the display clear, press the power key quickly. 2 Use or to reach the desired op- tion: Switch off! turns off the p h one. Personal is the default setting using the tone settings select- ed in Tones menu. Silent no sound alert w ill be heard. Discreet a short beep sound is heard as a ringing or message alert tone.

Tip: You can also use f ollowing shortcuts: , for Personal , for Silent , for Discreet , for Loud Note: When you change the settings in the Tones menu, the Personal is automatically reset. Note: When the phone i s connected to the C ARK-9 1 car kit or HDC-9 headset, this function is n ot available. Voice Mes sag e s The network may offer you a voice mailbox service. You can divert your calls to the voice mailbox and the callers can leave y ou mes- sages. The network informs you when you have a voice message waiting. Call to the voice m ailbox number and listen to the message(s). 1 With clear display, press and hold for a second to call your voice mailbox numb er. If the phone asks for the voice m ailbox number, key it in and press ( OK ). See also âÂÂVoice Mailbox Nu mberâÂÂ, menu 2-6. You will obtain your voice mailbox n umber from your service pr ovider upon subscription to the voice m ailbox service. 2 Listen to the messages. End the call by pressing ( End ). Note: If the Navi ke y text Listen is ava ilable, press ( Listen ) to c all your voice mailbox.

Befo re you ca n send any messa ges, you need to stor e the nu mber of your message centre in the memory. It will remain unchanged u ntil replaced. You will obtain the number from your service provider upon subscription to the Short Message Service (SM S). See the sec- tion Message Settings. Make sure before sending a text message that the rec eiving phone is provided with SMS capa bility. The capacity of the SIM card to stor e text messa ges may vary de- pending on the SIM card. Read Messages 1 When you have received an SMS mess age, the text ...Mes- sages(s) Received and the indicator are displayed. Press ( Read ). 2 Use or to reach the desired message and press ( Read ). 3 While reading a message, use or to browse through the messag e. Pre ss ( Option s ) for available options. Press quickly to exit the message. 4 Press and hold for a second to exit the menu. Writing an d Sendin g a Mess age 1 Press ( Menu ). 2 Use or to reach the menu function Messages and press ( Select ). 3 U s e o r t o r e a c h Write messages and press ( Se- lect ).

For information on how to use the keys for writing, see âÂÂStoring a Name and Pho ne Number in Phone bookâÂÂ. 5 When you have fi nished the writing, press ( Option s ). 6 Select Send and press ( OK ). 7 Key in the recipientâÂÂs phone number or press ( Search ) and use or to search for it from Ph one Book and press ( OK ). 8 Press ( OK ) to send the message. 9 Press and hold twice to e xit the menu. Keypad Lock The keypad lock preven ts keys from being accidentally pressed when, for exam ple, the phon e is in your pocket or handbag. ⢠To lock the keypad, within three seconds first pre ss ( Menu ) and th en . When the keypad is locked, the in- dicator is shown. ⢠To unlock the keypad, first press ( Unlock ) and then . ⢠When the keypad is locked, you can answer a call by pressing ( Answer ). Note: When the keypad is locked, calls may be possible to the emergen cy number programme d into your phone (e.g. 1 12 or other official emergency number). The number is dis - played only when all th e digits have be en keyed in.

Using the Menu The phone allows you to alter and view the settings of the many functions and options that are listed in the m enus and submenus. The menus and submenus ca n be accessed by scrolling or using the appropriate shortcut. Use or to reach the desired message and press ( Read ). While reading a message, press ( Option s ) for available op- tions, and press ( OK ) to select the desired option: Erase , Re- ply , Edit, Use Number (lists the ph one numbers found in the messag e) and Forward (to s end the message f urthe r). For available topics and relevant topic numbers, contact your service provider. By selecting On , you will receive messages on the active topics. You can edit the topic list , and mar k the topics active or inactive. Topic Index retrieves a list of available topics from the network. By selecting Topics , you can Add topic in the topics list. Key in the topic number and name. You can also Edit or Erase the topic list. Select Language to set the language for the messages. Only mes- sages in the selected language are shown. Voice Mail box Numbe r Within the menu Voice Mailbox Number (me nu 2- 6) you can store the number of your voice mailbox. Key in the number and press ( OK ). Call Regist er (menu 3) The phone registers m issed and received calls only if the network supports the Calling Line Identification function, the phone is switched on and is within the networkâÂÂs ser vice area. Missed Calls The last five phone numbers from which somebody has tried to cal l you are stored in the phoneâÂÂs memory in the Missed Calls list ( menu 3-1). In the options of th e Missed Calls menu you can view the ph one number, call th e number, vie w the time of th e miss ed call if the clock is set to the right time, and er ase the phone number or save it in the Phone Book. Tip: When a notice about missed calls appears on the dis- play, press ( List ) t o view the list of missed calls phone numbers. Received Calls The last five phone numbers fr om which you have received a call are stored in the phoneâÂÂs memory in the Received Calls list (menu 3-2). Dialled Numbers The phone stores th e last eight phone nu mbers that you called or attempted to call. Note: If a new SIM card, which is not recognised as an own- er card, is inser ted into the phone, the contents of the Missed Calls, Dialled Calls and Received Calls lists will be erased. Show Call Duration You can use Show Call D urat ion me nu ( menu 3-5) to view the ap- proximate duration of your outgoing and incoming calls in hours, minutes and seconds and to reset the call timers to zero. Inserting a new SIM card does not clear th e call timers. Note: The actual time invoiced for calls by you r service pro- vider may vary , depending upon network fe atures, round- ing-off for billing, and so forth. Show Call Costs This network service allows you to check the approximate cost of your last call or all calls if the call cost s ervice is supported by th e network (menu 3-6). The costs are shown in terms of charging units. Call costs are shown separately for each SIM card. Note: The actual invoice for calls and services from your service provider may vary , dep ending upon network fea- tures, rounding-off for billing, taxes and so forth.

Depending on the SIM car d you may need the PIN2 code to set a call cost limit. Speed Di alling When the Speed Dialling function (menu 4-1-2) is set on, the names and phone numbers assigned to the speed dial keys to can be dialled by pressi ng and holding the corresponding number key. Note: Pressing and holding dials your voice mailbox number , not the s peed dial number a ssigned to the key . Call Waiting Opt ions When this network service is a ctivated (menu 4-1-3), the network will notify you of a new incoming call while you have a call in progress. Own Nu mber Sendi ng This network service allows you to set whether your phone number is hidden or displayed to the person you are calling (menu 4-1-4). Preset resets the phone to the default setting, On or Off , that you have agreed upon with your service provider. Automatic Answ er This setting is available only wh en the phone is connected to the CARK-91 car kit or HDC-9 hea dse t. When this setting is On , your phone is set to automatica lly an swer an incoming call after on e ring. This function can be u sed when the car kit is equipped with ignition sense and the ignition is switched on.

If the sett ing Automatic is sele cted, the phone will set the language according to the information in the SIM card used in the phone. English is used if the language on the SIM card is not found in the phone. Cell Info Display Within this menu (menu 4-2-2) you can set the phone to indicate when it is used in a cellular network based on Micro Cellular Net- work (MCN) technology (network service). Welcome Note This menu (menu 4-2-3) allows you to set the message which is shown when the phone is switched on . Network Selec tion The network can be selected automatically or manually (menu 4-2- 4). In automatic mode the ph one automatically selects one of the cel- lular networks available in your area. In manual mode the phone will show a list of available networks and you can select the desired networ k if this network has a roaming agreement with your home network operator. Otherwise the text No Access is displayed and another network must be selected. The phone will stay in manual mode until the automatic mode is select- ed or another SIM card is inserted in th e phone. Lights This setting is available only wh en the phone i s connected to the CARK-91 car kit. It allows you to set the disp lay and keypad lights.

PIN-Code Reque st Withi n this m enu (m enu 4- 3-1) y ou can se t the p hone to ask for the PIN code of your SIM card when th e phone is switched on. You need the PIN code to set the request on . Note that some SIM cards do not allow the PIN code request to be turned o ff. Fixed Dialling You can restrict your outgoing calls to selected phone nu mbers, if this function is supported by your SIM card (menu 4-3-2). The PIN2 code is needed for this f unction. Note: When fixed dialling is set on, calls may be possible to certain emergency numbers in som e networks (e.g. 1 12 or other official emergen cy number). Closed User Group This network service (m enu 4-3-3) specifies the group of peo ple whom you can c all and who can call you. Preset resets the phone to use a user group the SIM card owner has agree d upon with the service provider. Note: When calls are limi ted to Closed User Groups, calls may be possible to certain emergency numbers in some net- works (e.g . 1 12 or other offici al eme rgency number). Phone Se curity This menu (menu 4-3-4) allows you to set th e phone security On to avoid unauthorised use of th e phone. You need the security code to set the phone security. When On is selected, th e phone will ask f or the security code when- ever a new SI M card is inserte d.

The phone prompts you to enter the cu rrent code and the new code. It also prompts you to verify the new code. Not e: Avoid using access codes similar to the em ergency numbers, such as 1 12, to pr event accidental dialling of the eme rgenc y n um ber . Restore Factory S ettings You can reset some of the menu settings to their original values (menu 4-4). The security code is n eeded for this function. Call Divert (me nu 5) The Call Divert network service allows you to diver t the incoming calls to you r voice mail (only voice calls) or to another phone number. The call divert m odes available are ⢠Divert all voice calls without ringing, ⢠Divert when busy, ⢠Divert when not answered, ⢠Divert when the phone is off or no coverage. Then you can Activate, Cancel or check Status of the select- ed mode. For some divert modes also Set delay is available. â¢W i t h Cancel all diverts you can set all diver ts off. Tip! If Divert when busy is activated, r ejecting an in- coming call will also divert the call.

Making a currency conversion Press ( Option s ) and select Exchange rate . When the alarm time exp ires The timer alert tone corresponds to the ringing volu me setting. Although the phone has a power backup, you may need to set the time again when the phoneâ s battery is flat or h as been removed. In this menu you can set the time display on or off , set the time or select the 12-hour or 24-hour time format. Tone s (men u 9 ) Incoming Call Alert This menu function (menu 9-1) allows you to select how the phone notifies you of an in coming call. Available options are Ringing , Ascending , Ring o nce , Beep onc e, or Off when no ringing tone will be heard. Note: If the phone is set to Off , no ringing tone, m essage alert tone, keypad tone or war ning tone will be hear d. Ringing Tone You can select any of the ringing tone types ava ilable in menu 9-2. Ringing Volu me A ringing tone is h eard when there is an incoming call. This m enu function (menu 9-3) allows you to select any of the ringing volume levels available. The ringing tone level also affects the level of mes- sage alert tone. Message Alert Tone You can also select an alert tone to indicate an incoming SMS mes- sage (men u 9-4) .

The access codes (except PUK and PUK2 codes) can be changed by using the menu 4-3-5. See the next section. Security Code (5 digi ts) The security code can be used to avoid unauthorised use of your phone, see âÂÂPhone Secur ityâ (menu 4-3-4 ). The factor y setting for the security code is 1234 5. Change the code, see âÂÂSe curity settings - Change Access CodesâÂÂ. Ke ep the new code secret and in a s afe place, separate from the phone. PIN Code (4 to 8 digits) The PIN (Per sonal Identification Numbe r) code protects your SIM card against unauthorised use. The PIN code is usually suppli ed with the SIM card. PIN2 Code (4 to 8 digits) The PIN2 code, suppl ied with some SIM cards, is required to access some functions, such as charging unit counters. These functions are only available if supported by your SIM card. PUK Code (8 dig its) The PUK (Personal Un blocking Key) code is required to ch ange a blocked PIN code. The PUK code may be supplied with the SIM card. If not, contact your lo cal service provider for the code. If you lose the code, contact your service provider. PUK2 Code (8 digit) The PUK2 code, supplied with some SIM cards, is required to change a blocked PIN2 code. If you lose the code, con tact your service pro- vider.

The connector may be prot ected by a rubber cap. If it is, first remove the cap when connecting the external an- tenna. After removing the antenna, replace the cap. Battery In formati on The following manufacturer-approved rechargeable batteries are available for your phone: NiMH batteries BMS-2V, BMS-2S and BMS-2, and Li-Ion batteries B LS-2 and BLS-4. Charging and Dischargin g the Battery ⢠Your phone is powered by a rechargeable battery. ⢠Note that a new battery's full performance is a ch ieved only after two or three complete charge and discharge cycles! ⢠The batter y can be charged and discharged hundreds of times but it will even tually wear out. When th e operating time (talk- time and stand-by time) is noticeably sh orter than normal, it is time to buy a new battery. ⢠Use only batteries approved by the ph one manufacturer and r e- charge your battery only with the charger s approved by the manufa ctur er. ⢠When a charger is not in use, disconnect it from the power source. Do not leave the battery connected to a charger for long- er than a week, since overcharging may shorten its life. If left un- used a fully charged battery wil l discharge itself over time. ⢠For good operation times, discharge the NiMH battery from time to time by leaving your phone switched on until it turns itself off

Getting the Phone ready for Us e Befor e you can use yo ur phon e, y o u fir st need to ⢠install a valid miniature SIM card in the phone and ⢠charge the battery. Installing the SI M card ⢠Keep all miniature SIM cards out of th e reach of sm all children. ⢠The SIM card and its contacts can easily be damaged by scratch- es or bending, so be careful when handling, inserti ng or remov- ing the card. ⢠Before installing the SIM card, always make sure that the phone is switched off and th en remove the battery. 1 At the back of the phone, press the locking catch of the bat- tery (1.), slide the battery downwards (2.) and lift it (3.) off the phone. 2 Open the co ve r for the SI M card reader by sliding it in the direction âÂÂOpenâ (4.) and lif t- ing it (5.).

Charging the Batte ry 1 Connect the lead from the charger to the bottom of the phone. 2 Connect the charger to an AC wall outlet and the bat- tery indicator bar starts to scroll. The Charging text is briefly displayed if the phone is switched on. The phone can be used while charging if the phone is on. Not e: If the battery is totally flat, it may take a few minutes before the charging indication appears o n the display .

All Rights Reserved. 11 3 The battery is fully charged when the battery indicator bar stops scrolling, and the Battery full text is briefly displayed if th e phone is on. Charging time depends on t he char ger and ba ttery used. For ex- ample, charging a BMS-2 bat tery with the ACP-7 ch arger takes about four hour s. 4 Disconnect the charger f rom the AC outlet an d the phone. If Not charging is displayed, charging is suspended. Wait for a while, disconnect the charger, plug it in again and retry. If charging still fails, contact your dealer. This is a lso called âÂÂa clear displayâÂÂ. Operator indicates in which cellular networ k the phone is currently u sed. and bar Shows the signal strength of the cellular network at your current location. The higher th e bar, the stronger th e signal. and bar Shows the battery charge level. The higher the bar, the more power in the batter y. Using th e Keys Navi Key The use of the phone is largely based on the Nokia Navi TM Key, , below the display. The func- tion of this Nokia Navi TM Key, , varies according to the guiding text shown above the key on the display. Throughout this u serâÂÂs guide, to- gether with the Nokia Navi TM Key the relevant guiding tex t is also mentioned, e.g. ( Menu ) or ( Select ).

Befo re you ca n send any messa ges, you need to stor e the nu mber of your message centre in the memory. It will remain unchanged u ntil replaced. Assignin g a Phon e Number as a Speed Dial Numb er You can assign nine phone numbers stored in Phone Book as speed dial numbers which can be dialled via the number keys - . Select the menu function Speed Dials (menu 1- 8). If no phon e number is assigned to a key, press ( Assign ). Not e: Assign is a lso shown when the phone has au tomat- ically assigned a phone n umber from the Ph one Book to a speed dialling key. Press ( Read ) to view th e message(s). To view the message later, en- ter the menu function Inbox (menu 2- 1). The me ssages in the Inbox are listed, the latest message is on the top of the list. Use or to reach the desired message and press ( Read ). While reading a message, press ( Option s ) for available op- tions, and press ( OK ) to select the desired option: Erase , Re- ply , Edit, Use Number (lists the ph one numbers found in the messag e) and Forward (to s end the message f urthe r). In the De- tails option, use or to see details of the message, senderâÂÂs name and phone number, message centre used for sending, r ecep- tion date and time. Writing, S endi ng and Saving a Message Within the W rite messages men u (menu 2- 3) yo u can writ e and edit text messages of up to 160 characters. You can, for example, send a text me ssage as a fax, if supported by your service provider, by simply selecting the set in which you have predefined the pr oper settings for fa x transmissions. Each set has its own subme nu : ⢠Message centre number Stores the phone n umber of the m essage centre n eeded for sending text messages. You obtain this number from your service pr ovider. Info Service This network service (menu 2 -5) allows you to receive messages on various topics (such as weather or traffic conditions) from your service provider. For available topics and relevant topic numbers, contact your service provider. By selecting On , you will receive messages on the active topics. You can edit the topic list , and mar k the topics active or inactive. Topic Index retrieves a list of available topics from the network. By selecting Topics , you can Add topic in the topics list. Key in the topic number and name. You can also Edit or Erase the topic list. Select Language to set the language for the messages. Only mes- sages in the selected language are shown. Voice Mail box Numbe r Within the menu Voice Mailbox Number (me nu 2- 6) you can store the number of your voice mailbox. Key in the number and press ( OK ). The number will remain unchanged u ntil replaced. You will obtain the nu mber from your service pr ovider.

Call Regist er (menu 3) The phone registers m issed and received calls only if the network supports the Calling Line Identification function, the phone is switched on and is within the networkâÂÂs ser vice area. Missed Calls The last five phone numbers from which somebody has tried to cal l you are stored in the phoneâÂÂs memory in the Missed Calls list ( menu 3-1). In the options of th e Missed Calls menu you can view the ph one number, call th e number, vie w the time of th e miss ed call if the clock is set to the right time, and er ase the phone number or save it in the Phone Book. Tip: When a notice about missed calls appears on the dis- play, press ( List ) t o view the list of missed calls phone numbers. Received Calls The last five phone numbers fr om which you have received a call are stored in the phoneâÂÂs memory in the Received Calls list (menu 3-2). In the options of the Received Calls menu you can view the phone number, call th e number, vie w the time of th e rece ived call if the clock is set to the right time, and er ase the phone number or save it in the Phone Book. Dialled Numbers The phone stores th e last eight phone nu mbers that you called or attempted to call. In the options of th e Dialled Calls menu (menu 3- 3) you can view the phone n umber, call the num ber, view the time of the call if th e clock is set to the right time, and er ase the phone number or save it in the Phone Book.

All Rights Reserved. 35 Erasing Re cent Ca l l Lists This menu function (menu 3-4) allows you to e rase all the phone numbers and names in the Missed Calls, Received Calls and Dialled Calls lists. Note: If a new SIM card, which is not recognised as an own- er card, is inser ted into the phone, the contents of the Missed Calls, Dialled Calls and Received Calls lists will be erased. Show Call Duration You can use Show Call D urat ion me nu ( menu 3-5) to view the ap- proximate duration of your outgoing and incoming calls in hours, minutes and seconds and to reset the call timers to zero. Inserting a new SIM card does not clear th e call timers. Note: The actual time invoiced for calls by you r service pro- vider may vary , depending upon network fe atures, round- ing-off for billing, and so forth. Show Call Costs This network service allows you to check the approximate cost of your last call or all calls if the call cost s ervice is supported by th e network (menu 3-6). The costs are shown in terms of charging units. Call costs are shown separately for each SIM card. Note: The actual invoice for calls and services from your service provider may vary , dep ending upon network fea- tures, rounding-off for billing, taxes and so forth.

You can make and receive charged calls as long as the set call cost limit is not exceeded. The limit can be set in a specified number of charging units or units of the cur- rency set wi thin the Show Costs In m enu. Depending on the SIM car d you may need the PIN2 code to set a call cost limit. Show Costs In This network function allows you to select whether the call costs are displayed in terms of charging units or the desired currency (menu 3-7-2). Contact your ser vice provider for charging unit prices. Depending on th e SIM card you m ay need the PIN 2 code to select the currency or unit in Show Costsâ In.

If the sett ing Automatic is sele cted, the phone will set the language according to the information in the SIM card used in the phone. Cell Info Display Within this menu (menu 4-2-2) you can set the phone to indicate when it is used in a cellular network based on Micro Cellular Net- work (MCN) technology (network service). Welcome Note This menu (menu 4-2-3) allows you to set the message which is shown when the phone is switched on . Network Selec tion The network can be selected automatically or manually (menu 4-2- 4). In automatic mode the ph one automatically selects one of the cel- lular networks available in your area. In manual mode the phone will show a list of available networks and you can select the desired networ k if this network has a roaming agreement with your home network operator. Otherwise the text No Access is displayed and another network must be selected. Closed User Group This network service (m enu 4-3-3) specifies the group of peo ple whom you can c all and who can call you. Phone Se curity This menu (menu 4-3-4) allows you to set th e phone security On to avoid unauthorised use of th e phone. You need the security code to set the phone security. Restore Factory S ettings You can reset some of the menu settings to their original values (menu 4-4). The security code is n eeded for this function. Call Divert (me nu 5) The Call Divert network service allows you to diver t the incoming calls to you r voice mail (only voice calls) or to another phone number. The call divert m odes available are ⢠Divert all voice calls without ringing, ⢠Divert when busy, ⢠Divert when not answered, ⢠Divert when the phone is off or no coverage. Then you can Activate, Cancel or check Status of the select- ed mode. For some divert modes also Set delay is available. â¢W i t h Cancel all diverts you can set all diver ts off. Tip! If Divert when busy is activated, r ejecting an in- coming call will also divert the call.

Tone s (men u 9 ) Incoming Call Alert This menu function (menu 9-1) allows you to select how the phone notifies you of an in coming call. Available options are Ringing , Ascending , Ring o nce , Beep onc e, or Off when no ringing tone will be heard. Note: If the phone is set to Off , no ringing tone, m essage alert tone, keypad tone or war ning tone will be hear d. Ringing Tone You can select any of the ringing tone types ava ilable in menu 9-2. Ringing Volu me A ringing tone is h eard when there is an incoming call. This m enu function (menu 9-3) allows you to select any of the ringing volume levels available. The ringing tone level also affects the level of mes- sage alert tone. Message Alert Tone You can also select an alert tone to indicate an incoming SMS mes- sage (men u 9-4) .

The access codes (except PUK and PUK2 codes) can be changed by using the menu 4-3-5. See the next section. Security Code (5 digi ts) The security code can be used to avoid unauthorised use of your phone, see âÂÂPhone Secur ityâ (menu 4-3-4 ). The factor y setting for the security code is 1234 5. Change the code, see âÂÂSe curity settings - Change Access CodesâÂÂ. Ke ep the new code secret and in a s afe place, separate from the phone. PIN Code (4 to 8 digits) The PIN (Per sonal Identification Numbe r) code protects your SIM card against unauthorised use. The PIN code is usually suppli ed with the SIM card. PIN2 Code (4 to 8 digits) The PIN2 code, suppl ied with some SIM cards, is required to access some functions, such as charging unit counters. These functions are only available if supported by your SIM card. PUK Code (8 dig its) The PUK (Personal Un blocking Key) code is required to ch ange a blocked PIN code. The PUK code may be supplied with the SIM card. If not, contact your lo cal service provider for the code. If you lose the code, contact your service provider. PUK2 Code (8 digit) The PUK2 code, supplied with some SIM cards, is required to change a blocked PIN2 code. If you lose the code, con tact your service pro- vider.

The connector may be prot ected by a rubber cap. If it is, first remove the cap when connecting the external an- tenna. After removing the antenna, replace the cap. Battery In formati on The following manufacturer-approved rechargeable batteries are available for your phone: NiMH batteries BMS-2V, BMS-2S and BMS-2, and Li-Ion batteries B LS-2 and BLS-4. Charging and Dischargin g the Battery ⢠Your phone is powered by a rechargeable battery. ⢠Note that a new battery's full performance is a ch ieved only after two or three complete charge and discharge cycles! ⢠The batter y can be charged and discharged hundreds of times but it will even tually wear out. When th e operating time (talk- time and stand-by time) is noticeably sh orter than normal, it is time to buy a new battery. ⢠Use only batteries approved by the ph one manufacturer and r e- charge your battery only with the charger s approved by the manufa ctur er. ⢠When a charger is not in use, disconnect it from the power source. Do not leave the battery connected to a charger for long- er than a week, since overcharging may shorten its life. If left un- used a fully charged battery wil l discharge itself over time. ⢠For good operation times, discharge the NiMH battery from time to time by leaving your phone switched on until it turns itself off
