If using a hand-held phone park the vehicle before conversi ng. Always se cure the phone in its holder; do not place the phone on the passenger seat or where it can b reak loose in a colli sion or sudden s top. The use of an alert device to operate a vehicle’ s light s or horn on public roads is not permitted. Remember , road safety always comes first! Operat ing environment Remember to follow any special regulations in force in any area and always switch off your phone whenever it is forbidden to use it, or when it may cause interference or danger . When connecting the phone or a n y acces sory to another device, read its user’s guide for detailed safety instructions. Do not connect incompatible products. As with other mobile radio t ransmitting equipment, users ar e advised that for the satisfactor y operation of the equipment and for the safety of personnel, it is recommended that the equipment should only be used in the normal operating position (held t o your ear with the antenna pointing over your shoulder). Electr onic devices Most modern electronic equipment is shielded from radio frequency (RF) signals. However , certain electronic equipment may not be shielded against the RF signals from your wireless phone. P acemakers P acemaker manufacturers recommend that a minimum separation of 6 inches (20 cm.) be maintained between a handheld wireless phon e and a pacemaker to avoid potential interfer ence with the pacemaker . Thes e reco mmen dati ons ar e con sist ent with the indep enden t re searc h by and recommendations of Wireless Technology Research. P ersons with pacemakers: • Should always keep the phone more than 6 inches (20 cm) f rom their pacemaker when the phone is s wit ched on; • Should not carry the phone in a breast pocket; • Should use the ear opposite the pacemaker to minimize the poten tia l for in terf ere nce. • If you have any reason t o suspec t that interference is taking place, switch off your phone immediately .
65 Hearin g aids Some digital wireless phones may interfere with some hearing aids. In the event of s uch interference, you may want to consult your service pr ovider . Ot her me dic al de vic es Operation of any radio transm itting equipment, including cellular phones, may interfere with the functionality of inadequately protected medical devices. U sers are rem inded of th e need to o bserve re strict ions on the use of radio equipment in fuel depots (fuel storage and distribution areas), chemical plants or where blasting operations are in progress. Areas wit h a potentially explosiv e atmosphere are often but not always clearly mar ked. They include below deck on boats; chemical transfer or storage facilities; vehicles using liquefied petroleum gas (such as propane or butane); areas where the air contains chemicals or particles, such as grain, dust or metal powders; and any other area where you w ou ld normally be adv ised to turn off your vehicle engine. Ve h i c l e s Only qualified personnel should service the phone, or install the phone in a vehicle. F aulty installation or ser vice may be dangerous and may invalidate any warranty which may apply to the unit. Check regularl y that all wire le ss phone equipment in your vehicle is mounted and operating properly .

67 Radio frequency (RF) signals THIS MODEL PHONE MEETS THE GOVERN MENT’S REQUIREMENTS FOR EXPOSU RE TO RADIO WA VES. Y ou r wireles s phone is a r adio transmitter and receiver . It is designed and manufactured not to exceed the emission limits for exposure to radiofrequency (RF) energy set by the Federal Commu nications Commission of the U.S. Government. These limits are par t of compre- hensive guidelines and es tablish permitted levels of RF energy for the general population. The guidelines are based on standards that were developed by independent scientific organizati on s through periodic and thorough evaluation of sci en ti fi c stu di es . Th e s tan d ard s i n cl ud e a s ubs tan tia l s af ety ma r gi n de sig ned to as sure the safety of all persons, regardless of age and health. The exposure standard for wireless mobile phones employs a unit of measurement known as the Specific Absorption Rate, or SAR. The SAR lim it set by t he FCC is 1. 6 W/kg .* T ests for SAR a re con duct ed us ing sta ndar d operating positions accepted by the FCC with the phone transmitting at its highest certified power level in all tested frequency bands. Although the SAR is determ ined at the highest certified power level, the act ual SAR level of the pho ne while oper ating can be well below the maximum value. This is because the phone is designed to operate at multiple power levels so as to use only the power required to reach the network. In gener al, the clo s er y o u ar e t o a wirel ess ba se stati on an tenna, th e lo wer the p ower ou tput. Before a phone model is available for sale to the public, it must be tested and certified to the FCC that it does not exceed the limit established by the govern ment-adopted req uirement for s afe exposur e. The tests are performed in p ositions and locations (e.g., at the ear) as required by the FCC for each model. The highest SAR value for this model p hone when test ed f or use at the ea r is 1. 25 W/kg. Wh ile t her e may be differences between the SAR levels of various phones and at various positions, they all meet the government requirement. The FCC has gra nted an Eq uipm ent A uth oriza tio n fo r this model pho ne with all rep orted SAR leve ls evaluated as in compliance with the FCC RF exposure guidelines. SAR information on this model phone is on file with the FCC and can be found un der the Display Grant section of http:/ /www .f cc.gov/oet/fccid af ter searchin g on FCC I D LJPNSC-1NX . _______________ ________ _________________ _____________ *In the United States and Canada, the SAR limit for mobile phones used by the public is 1.6 wa tts/kg (W/k g) average d over one gram of tissue. The standard incorporates a substantial margin of safet y to give additional protection for the public and to account for any variations in measurements.
