• Never us e any charger or batter y which is damaged or worn out. • D o not short circuit the batt ery . Accidental s hort circuiti ng can occur when a metallic object (coin, clip, or pen) causes direct connection of th e and - ter minals of the bat tery (metal s trips on the back of the battery) , for example when you carry a spare battery in your pocket or pur se. Short circuiting the t erminals may damage the batt ery or the connecting object. • L eaving the battery in hot or cold places , such as in a closed car in summer or wint er conditions, will reduce t he capacity and lifetime of t he battery . Always try to keep the batt ery between 59º F and 77º F (15º C and 2 5º C). A phone with a hot or cold battery may temporarily not work, even when the battery is fully charged. 77 Appen di x C: Re ference inform ation Important sa fety information T raffi c saf ety Do not use a hand- held telephone while driving a vehicle. If using a hand- held phone park the vehicle before conversing. Always secure t he phone in its holder; do not place t he phone on the passenger seat or where it can break loose in a collision or sudden stop. The use of an alert device to operate a vehicle’s lights or hor n on public roads is not permitted. Rem emb er , road s afety alwa ys comes fi rst ! Operating enviro nment Rememb er to follow any special regulations in force in any area and always switch off your phone whenever it is for bidden to use it, or when it may cause interfer ence or danger . When connecting the phone or any access or y to another devic e, read its user’s guide for detailed safety instruct ions. Do not conn ect incompatible products. As with other mobile radio transmit ting equipment, users are advised tha t for the satis factor y o peration of the equipm ent a nd fo r the safety of personnel, it is recommended th at the equipm ent should only be used in the normal operating position ( held to your ear with the antenna point ing over your shoulder). Electronic d evices Most modern electr onic equipment is shielded from r adio frequ ency (RF) signals. H owever , certain electron ic equipment may not be shielded against the R F signals from your wireless ph one. P acemaker s P acemaker manufactur ers recommend that a min imum separa tion of 6 inches (20 cm.) be maintained between a handheld wire less phone and a pacemaker to avoid potential interfe rence with the pacemaker . These recommendations ar e consistent with the independent research by and recommendations of Wireless T echnology Research.
P ersons with pacemakers: • Shoul d always keep the phone more than 6 inches (20 cm) fr om their pacemaker when th e phone is switched on; • Shoul d not carry the phone in a breast pocket; • Shoul d use the ear opposite the pacemaker to minimize the pot ential fo r inter fere nce. • If you have any reason to suspect t hat interference is taking place, switch off your phone immediately . Hearing aid s Some digital wireless phones may inter fere with some hearing aids. In the event of such interfer ence, you may want to consult your service provider . Ot he r me dic a l de vices Operation of any radio transmitt ing equipment, including cellular phones, may interfere with the fu nctionality of inadequately protected medical devices. Consult a physician or the manuf acturer of the medical device to deter mine if they are adequately shielded from external RF energy or if you have any questions. Sw i tch off your phone in health care f acilities when any regulations posted in these areas instr uct you to do s o. Hospitals or health care facilities may be using equipment that could be sensitive to external RF energy . Ve h i c l e s RF signals may affect improperly installed or inadequately shielded electronic systems in motor vehicles (e.g. electronic fuel injection systems, electroni c anti-skid (anti-lock) braking systems, electronic speed contr ol systems, air bag systems). C heck with the manufactur er or its representative r egarding your vehicle. Y ou s hould also consult the m anufacturer of any equipme nt that has been added to your vehicle. P osted fa ci lit ies Switch your phone off in any facility where posted notic es so require. P o tent ially explosi ve atmospheres Switch off your phone when in any area with a potentially explosive atmosphere and obey all signs and instructions . Sparks in such areas could cause an explosion or fir e resulting in bodily injury or even death.
Users are advised to s witch off the pho ne while at a refueling point (service station). User s are reminded of the need to observe restrictions on the u se of radio equipment in fuel depots (fuel storage and distribution areas), chemical plants or where blasting operations are in progress. Areas with a potentially explosive atmosphere ar e often but not always clearly marked. They include below deck on boats; chemical transfer or st orage facilities; vehicles using liquefied petroleum gas (such as propane or bu tane); areas where th e air contains chemicals or particles, such as grain, dust or metal powders; and any other area where you would normally be advised to turn off your vehicle engine. Ve h i c l e s Only qualified per sonnel should service the phone, or install the phone in a vehicle. Faulty installation or se rvice may be dangerous and may invalidate any warrant y which may apply to the unit. Check regularly that all wireless phone equipment in your vehicle is mounted and operating properly . Do not store or carry flammable liquids, gases or explosive materials in the same compartment as the phone, its parts or accessories. For vehicles equipped with an air bag, remember that an air bag inflates with great force. Do not place objects , including both installed or portable wireless equipment, in th e area over the air bag or in the air bag deployment area. If in-v ehicle wireless equipment is improperly installed and t he air bag inflates, serious injury coul d result . Switch off your phone before boarding an air craft. The use of wireless telephones in an aircraft may be dangero us to the operation of the aircraft, disrupt the wireless telephone network and may be illegal. Failure to observe these instructions may lead to t he suspension or denial of telephone services to the offender , or legal action, or both. Emergency calls IMPO RT ANT! This phone, like any wireless phone, operat es using radio signals, wireless and landline networ ks as well as user- program med functions which cannot gu arantee connection i n all conditions. Therefore, you should never rely solely upon any wireless phone for essential communications (e.g. medical emergencies).
Remember , to make or receive any calls the phone must be sw itched on and in a service area with adequate signal strength. Emergency calls may not be possible on all wireless phone net works or when certain network se rvices and/or phone features are in us e. Check with local service providers. Making an emergency call 1 If the phone is not on , switch it on. Some n etworks m ay require that a valid SIM card is properl y inserte d in the phone . 2 Pres s and hold the key f or se ve r al sec on d s to ready t he phone for calls. 3 K ey in th e em erge ncy nu mber for y our pre sent locatio n (e.g. 9 1 1 or other offic ial emergency numbe r). Emergency numbe rs vary by loc ation. 4 Press &DOO . If certain features are in use (Keyguard, fixed dialing, etc.), you may first need to t urn those featur es off before you can make an emergency call. Consult this document and your local cellular s ervice provider . When making an emergency call, remember to give all the necessary informat ion as accurately as possible. Remember that your wireles s phone may be the only means of communication at t he scene of an accident - do not cut off the call until given permission to do so. Radio frequency (RF) signals Y o ur wireless handheld port able telephone is a low power radio transmitt er and receiver . When it is O N, it receives and also sends out radio frequency (RF) signals. In Augus t, 1996, the Federal Comm unications Commission (FCC) adopted RF exposur e guidelines with safety levels for handheld wireless phones. Those guidelines are cons istent with safety standards previously set by both U.S. and international s tandards bodies: ANSI C 95.1 (1992)*, N CRP Report 86 (1986 )*, ICNIRP (1996)*. Those standards were based on comprehensive and periodic evaluations of the relevant scientific literat ure. For example, over 120 scientists , engineers, and physicians fr om universities, government health agencies and industr y reviewed the available body of research to develop the ANSI Standard (C95.1).
The design of your ph one complies with the FCC guidelines ( and those standards). *American Nation al Standards Ins titute, N ational Council on Radiation Prot ection and Measur ements; Intern ational C ommission on Non-Ionizing Radiat ion Protection. Care and maintenance Y our ph one is a product of superior design and craftsmanship and should be treated with care. The suggestions below will help you to fulfill any warr anty obligations and allow you to enjoy th is product for many years . When using your phone, batter y , charger , OR any accessory: • Keep it and all its part s and accessories out of sm all children’s re ac h. • Keep it dry . Precipitation, humidit y and liquids contain min erals that will corr ode electronic circuits. • D o not use or store it in dus ty , dirty areas as its moving parts can be damaged. • D o not store it in hot areas. High temperatu res can shorten the life of electroni c devices, damage batteries, and warp or melt certain plastics. • D o not store it in cold ar eas. When the phone war ms up (to its normal operat ing temperature), moistu re can form inside the phone, which may damage the phone's electronic circuit boards. • D o not attempt to open it. Non-expert handling of t he device may damage it. • D o not drop, knock or shake it. Rough handling can break internal circuit boards. • D o not use harsh chemicals , cleaning solvents, or strong detergents to clean it. Wipe it with a s oft cloth sl ightly dampened in a mild soap-and- water solut ion. • D o not paint it. P aint can clog the device’s moving parts and prevent proper operation. • U se only the supplied or an approved replacement antenna. Unauthoriz ed antennas, modification s or attachments could damage the phone and may violate re gulations governing radio devices. • If the phone, battery , charger , or any accessory is not working properly , take it to your near est qualified service fa cility . T he personnel there will assis t you, and if necessary , arrange for servi ce.
