PIN co des The personal id entification number (PIN) code and t he universal pers onal identificat ion number (UPIN) code (4 to 8 digits) help to protect your SIM card against unauthorized use. See Secur ity p. 65 . The PIN2 code (4 to 8 digits) may be s upplied with the SIM card and is r equired for some f unctions. The module PIN is required t o access t he informat ion in the secur ity module. See Secur ity module p. 93 . The signing PIN is required for t he digital signature. See D igital signature p. 95 . PUK co des The personal unblocking key (PUK) code and t he universal personal unblocking key (UPUK) code (8 digits) are required to change a blocked PIN code and UPIN code, respectively. The PUK2 c ode (8 digits) is required to change a bloc ked PIN2 code . If th e codes a re not supplied with the SIM ca rd, cont act your loc al service provider for the codes. Bar ring pa sswo rd The barring password (4 digits) is r equired when using the Call barring service . Keep all SI M cards out of the reach of sma ll chil dren. For availability and information o n using SIM card services, contact your S IM card vendor. This may be the s ervice provider, network opera tor, or othe r vendor. This device is intended for use wi th the BL-5B bat tery. The SIM card and its contacts can easily be damaged by scratches or bending, so be careful when handling, inserting, or removing the ca rd. Ensure that t he gold-colored c ontact area on the SIM card is facing downwards, and insert the SIM card into the SIM c ard holder until it snaps into position (3).

Each pictur e message comprises several text message s. Sending one picture or mult ipart message may cost more than se nding one text message. 3. If the message is too large, t he phone may not be able to re ceive it. Some netw orks allow text messages t hat include an Internet addr ess where you can vie w the multimedia message. You cannot r eceive multimedia messages during a call, a game, another Java applica tion, or an active browsing session over GSM data. To set the int erval bet ween the slides, s elect Options > Slide timing . To move t he text component to the t op or bottom of the message, select Options > Plac e text firs t or Place text last . The following opt ions may al so be availa ble: Delete to dele te an image, s lide, or s ound clip f rom the message, Clear text , Preview , or Save message . In More options the following options may be a vailable: Insert contact , Insert number , M essage details , and Edit subject . 3. To send the me ssa ge, se lec t Send > Recently used , To phone number , T o e- mail address , or To many . 4. Select t he contact from the list, or ent er the recipient’s phone number or e-mail address, or search for it in Contacts . Select OK . The mess age is move d to the O utbox folder for sending. While the mult imedia message is be ing sent, the a nimated indicator is displayed and y ou can use other functions on the phone. If th e sending fails, the phone tries to res end it a few times. If this fails, t he message remains in t he Outbox folder, and you can try t o resend it lat er. If you select Save s ent messages > Ye s , the sent messa ge is saved in the Sent items folder. See Multimedia p. 45 . When the message is sent, it is not an indic ation that t he message has been received at the intended destination. Read and reply t o an MMS messa ge Import ant: Exercis e caution whe n opening me ssages. Mu ltimedi a message objec ts may contain malicious software or otherwise be ha rmful to your device or PC. To add a f older, select Options > Add folder . If y ou have not saved any folders, select Add . To delete or rename a f older, scroll t o the de sired folder, and select Options > D elete folder or Rename folder . ■ Po s t c a r d s With the postcard messagi ng service y ou can cr eate and send pos tcards that may contain an image a nd a greeting text . The postcard is sent t o the s ervice provider using multimedia mes saging. The service provider prints the pos t card, and sends it t o the post al address giv en with the me ssage. T he Multimedia messa ging service must be activa ted before this service c an be us ed. This feature ma y not be a vailable, depending o n your phone. Before you can use the p ostcard service , you must subscrib e to the service. To check the availab ility and c osts, and to subscrib e to the service, conta ct your networ k operator or service p rovider. The ic ons and texts on the display may vary, depending on the instant messaging service. The phone plays the recogniz ed voice t ag, and dials the phone number of the voice tag after 1.5 seconds. Setting s ■ Profiles Your phone has v arious setting groups, called profiles, for which you can cus tomize the phone tones for different events a nd environments. Select Menu > Settings > Profil es . Scroll t o a profile, and select it. To activate the selected profile, sel ect A ctiv ate . To set the pr ofile to be active until a ce rtain time up to 24 hours, select Time d , and set t he time th e profile setting shall end. When t he time set for the profile expires , the previous profile th at was not timed becomes active. To personalize the prof ile, select Personalise . Select the setting y ou want t o change, and make the changes. To change your pr esence s tatus infor mation, select My presence > My avail ability or My pres ence message . The My pres ence menu is available if you set Synchronise w ith profiles to On . See My p re se n ce p. 50 . ■ Them e s A theme contains many element s for per sonalizing your phone, such as wallpaper, sc reen saver , color sche me, and a ringing t one. When traveling t o a dif ferent time zone, s elect Menu > Set t in gs > Time and dat e > Clock > Time zone and the time zone of your location in terms of the time diffe re nce with re spec t to Gr eenwic h Mean Ti me (GMT ) or Universal Time Coordinated (UTC). The time and date are set acc ording to the time zone and ena ble your phone to display t he correc t sending time of receive d text or multimedia mes sages. To set th e phone to alert you on select ed days of t he week, sele ct Repeat alar m . To select the alarm t one or set a radio st ation as the alarm tone, select Alarm tone . If you select the radio as an alarm tone, connect t he headset to the phone. The phone use s the last station you listened t o as the alarm, and the alarm pla ys through t he loudspeake r. If you remove the hea dset or swit ch off th e phone, the default alarm tone replace s the radio. To set a snooze time-out , select Snooz e time-out . Stop th e alar m The phone s ounds an alert tone, and flashes Alar m! and t he current time on the display, ev en if the phone was switched off . To stop t he alarm, select Stop . If you let the phone continue to sound the alarm for a minute or sel ect Snooze , t he alarm s tops for th e selected snooze time-out and then resumes. If the alarm time is reached while th e device is switch ed off, the device s witches itself o n and starts soundin g the alarm tone . If you sele ct Stop , the device asks whether you want to a ctivate the d evice for cal ls. Se lect No to switch o ff the device or Ye s to make and rece ive calls. While view ing a note, you can al so select an opt ion to edit the deadline or priority for the note or mark t he note as done. ■ Notes To use this application for writing and sending not es, select Menu > O rganiser > Not es . To cr eate a note if no note is added, select Add note; otherwise, se lect Options > Make a note . Write a not e, and select Save . Other options f or notes include delet ing and edit ing a note. While editing a note, you can also e xit the text editor without saving the changes . You can send the note to compatible de vices using a t ext messa ge, a multimedia messa ge, or IR. ■ Sync hroniz at ion Synchronization allows you to s ave your calendar and Contacts data on a remote Internet s erver (net work service) or on a compa tible PC. If you have sav ed data on the remote Internet server, t o synchronize your phone, start the synchronization f rom your phone. To sy nchronize the data in t he phone cont acts, cale ndar, and notes to cor respond wit h the data of y our compatible PC, start the synchronization from the PC. The contact data in your SIM card is not s ynchronized. Answering an incoming call dur ing synchronization ends the s ynchronization, and you must r estart it. Server s ynchron ization Before synchronizing fr om your phone, you must do the following: • Subscribe to a s ynchronization service. PTT provides direct voice c ommunica tion. To connect , press and hold the volume up (PTT) key. You can use PTT to have a conver sation with one person or with a group of people hav ing compatible devices. When your c all is connec ted, the per son or group you are calling does not have to answer the phone. The participants should conf irm the r eception of any communicat ions where appropr iate, as t here is no ot her confirmation whet her the r ecipients have heard t he call. To check availability and costs, and to subscribe to the se rvice, contact your service provider. Roaming services may be more limited than for normal calls. Before you c an use the PT T service, you must define the requir ed PTT service settings . See P TT sett ings p. 87 . While you are connec ted to the PTT service, you ca n use the ot her functions of the phone . Make a dial-o ut PTT call For a dial-out PTT call you can select multiple PTT cont acts from the conta ct list. The recipie nts get an inc oming call and need to acce pt the call in or der to partic ipate. A dial -out call creates a t emporary channel, and the participants join this channel only for the duration of the call. After the call, the t emporary dial- out channel i s deleted.

Press and hold the volume up (PTT) key t he entire t ime you are t alking, and hold the phone in front of you so that you ca n see t he display. When you hav e finished, r elease the v olume up (PTT) key. Talking is allowed on a first-come, first-served bas is. When someone stops talking, the fir st person t o press the v olume up (PTT) key can talk next. Make a one-t o-one call To start a one-to-one call from the list of c ontacts to which you have adde d the PTT address, select Co nt a ct s list . Each member in the channel is ide ntified by a nickname, which is shown as a caller identification. Channel members can choose a nic kname for t hemselves in ea ch channe l. Channels are regis tered with a URL add ress. One use r registers the channel URL i n the net work by joining t he channel session the first t ime. There are three types of PTT channels : • Provisione d channels are closed channel s that allow only s elected participants pr ovisioned by the serv ice provider to join. • Ad hoc channels are channels that the users can create. You ca n create your own channel, and invite members to the channel. • Ad hoc pro channels are c hannels you c an creat e from membe rs in a provis ioned channe l. For example, a business can have a clos ed chan nel and separate c hannels cr eated for cer tain business f unctions.

The members you invite to the public c hannels can a lso i nvite more membe rs to the cha nnel. Manual — to join an existing cha nnel. Enter t he channel addr ess. Select Default , Listened , or Inac tive . The phone indicates that the c hannel is saved and its s tatus. Default and Listened are active c hannels. W hen you press and hold the volume up (PTT) key t o make a c hanne l ca ll, the de fault channel is calle d if you have not scrolled to any other channel or contact. Receive an invitation 1. W hen you receive a text message invit ation to a c hannel, Channel i nvitation received: is displayed. 2. To view the nickname of the person who sent the invi tat ion and the channel address if the channel is not a private cha nnel, select View . 3. To add the cha nnel to your phone , select Save . Using the di gital signature can be the same as signing your name to a paper bill , contract , or other docume nt. To make a digital s ignature, sel ect a link on a page, for example, the title of the book you want to buy and its price. The t ext to s ign, which may include the amount and dat e, is shown. Check that the header t ext is Read and that the di gital signature icon is shown. If the digital s ignature icon doe s not appe ar, ther e is a secur ity breac h, and you s hould not enter any personal data such as your signing PIN . To sign the text, read all of t he text first, and select Sign . The text may not fit within a single scre en. Ther efore, make sure to scroll through and read all of the text before signing. The battery can be charged and discharged hund reds of times but it will eventually wear out. When the tal k and stan dby times are n oticeabl y shorter than n ormal, re place the ba ttery. Unplug the ch arger from the electri cal plug and the devi ce when not in us e. Do not leave a fully charged battery co nnected to a charger, since ove rchargin g may shorten its lifet ime. If l eft unused , a fully charg ed battery w ill lose its charge over ti me. Use the battery only for its intended purpose. Never use any charger or battery that is damaged. Do not short- circuit the batt ery. Accidenta l short-circui ting can occur when a metal lic object such as a co in, clip, or p en causes di rect connec tion of the pos itive ( ) a nd negative (-) terminals of the battery. (These look li ke metal st rips on the batter y.) This might happen , for examp le, wh en you carry a spare batt ery in your p ocket or purs e. Short-ci rcu iting the terminals may damage the battery o r the connect ing object. Leaving the batte ry in hot or cold p laces, such as in a closed ca r in summe r or winte r conditi ons, wi ll reduce t he capaci ty and lifetim e of the batt ery and its ability t o charge. Alway s try to keep the ba ttery betwee n 15°C and 25°C (59 °F and 77°F). A device wit h a hot or cold battery may not work temporarily, eve n when the battery is fully charged.
