When the battery begins c harging, your ph one will beep once an d the batt ery str e ngth indica tor on the right si de of the dis play w ill sc r o ll. 5 When is char ging c omplete? When t he char ge ind ica tor s stop sc r ol ling, your phon e is co nsi der ed fu ll y c harg ed. Howev er , a slig ht incr ease in char ge ma y occur if your p hone is left co nn ect ed to th e cha rger fo r a w hile . This is ca lle d “tric kle ch arg e. ” Cha rging times depend on the t ype of battery and char ger used . For ap pr o xi mat e ch ar gin g an d oper ati ng t i mes , s e e “St an dby and T alk Times ” on p age 75 . Can you m ake ca ll s w hile char gin g ? Y es, you can. But your batte ry may not charge whil e a call is in progr ess. Chargi ng should re sume once you end the call. Dischar ging NiMH batter ies A NiMH battery lasts longer and pe rforms better if you f ully dis cha rg e it from tim e to tim e. T o di sc har ge th e batte ry , lea ve your ph one swit ched on until the batt ery is drained. The p hone will display several m essages that the batt ery is lo w and that yo u need to r echarge i t; ju st igno r e the m. D o not attem pt t o di scharge the batt ery by any o ther mea ns.
6 Impor tant Batte ry In forma tion • The b attery c an be charg ed and d ischarged hundreds o f time s but it will e ventually w ear out. When the operatin g time (ta lk time an d sta ndby time) is noticeab ly shor ter than norm al, it is time t o buy a n ew batte ry . • Use only b atteries ap proved by the p hone ma nufac tur er and recharge your batter y only wit h the charge rs app roved by the ma nufac tur er . When a char ger is not in use, discon - nect it from th e power sour ce. D o not leave the b attery conn ected to a charg er for l onger than a we ek, since over - charg ing may sh orten i ts life. If left unuse d a fully charged battery will dischar ge itself over time. • (NiM H batteries o nly) For good o peration times, d ischarge the b attery from t ime to tim e by leaving your pho ne swit ched on unt il it tur ns itself o f f (or by u sing the batte ry dischar ge faci lity of a ny approved a ccessory ava ilable fo r your pho ne).
