T he fu ll performance of a n ew battery is achieved only after two or three complete charge and dis charge cycles. The battery ca n be charged and disch arged hundreds of times, but it will eventually wear o ut. When the talk an d standby times ar e noticeably shorter than norm al, replace the battery. Use only Nokia approved batteries, and recharge your battery on ly with Nokia appr oved chargers designated for this device. If a replacemen t battery is being used for the first time or if the battery has not been used for a prolonge d period, it may be necessar y to connect the char ge r and then disconnect and reconnect it to start the char gi ng. Unplug the charger from the electrical plu g and the device when not in u se. Do not leave fully charged bat te ry connected to a charger, s ince overcharging may shorten its lifetime. If left unused, a fully charged battery w ill lose its charge over t i me. If the battery is completely discharged, it may take a few minutes before the charging indicator appears on the display or before any calls can be m ade. Use the battery only for its intended purpose. Ne ver use any charger or battery that is damaged. Do not short-circuit the battery. Accidental short- circuiting can occur when a metallic object such as a coin, clip, or pen causes direct connection of the positive ( ) and negative (-) ter minals of the battery. (These look like metal strips on the battery.) This might happen, for example, wh en you carry a spare battery in your pocket or purse. Short-circuiting the terminals may damage the battery or th e connecting object. Leaving the battery in ho t or cold places, such as in a closed car in summer or win ter conditions, will reduce the capacity and lifetime of the battery. Always try to kee p the battery between 1 5°C and 25°C (59°F and 77°F). A
116 Copyright © 2006 Nokia. All rights r eserved . device with a hot or cold battery may not w ork temporar ily, even when the battery is f u lly charged.
