Do n ot connec t incompatible products. ■ Network services To use the device y ou must have service from a wireless service provider. Many of the features require special network features. These are not available on all networks; other networks may requi re that you mak e specifi c arrangemen ts with your service provider before you can use the network services . Using network services involve s transmission of data. Check with you r service provider for details about fees in your hom e network and when roaming in other netwo rks. Your service provider can give you instruction s and explain what charges will appl y. Some networks may have limitations that affect how yo u can use network
10 services. For instance, some networks may not support all language-dependent characters and services. Your service provider ma y have requested that certain features be disabled or not activate d in your device. If so, th ese features will not appe ar on your device men u. Your device may also ha ve a special configu ration such as chan ges in menu nam es, menu order, and icons. Contact your service provider for more information.
11 1. Get started ■ Remo ve the b ack cove r and ba ttery Note: Always switch off the power and disconnect the charger and any other device before removing the cover. Avoid touching electronic components while changing the cover . Always store and use the de vice with the cover attached. 1. Place the back of the phone towards you. 2. Press and slide the back cove r toward s the indicated direction. 3. Lift the battery from its compartment.
12 ■ Replace the batte ry and back cover 1. Insert the gold- colored contact end of the battery in to the battery slot. 2. Push down on the other end of the battery to snap it into place. 3. Replace the back cover so that the cover tabs align with the slots in the phone. Slide the back cove r toward s the indicated direction. ■ Insert and remove the microSD card Use only compatible microSD cards approved by Nokia for use with this device. Your device supports microSD cards up to 2 GB. Nokia uses approved industry stan dards for
13 memory cards, but some brands may not be f ully compatible with this device. Incompatible cards may damage the card a nd the device and corrupt data stor ed on the card. To insert the microSD card: 1. Lift open the microSD slot cover. 2. In sert the card firml y. The card clicks into place. To remov e the card, firml y press against th e card until it releases f rom the card slot and then slide it out. Importa nt: Do not re move the me mory card in the middle of an operation when the card is being accessed. Removing the card in the middle of an operation may damage the m emory card as well as the device, and data stored on the card may be corrupted.
14 ■ Charge the battery 1. Connect the charger to a wall outlet. 2. Connect the charger t o the device. 3. When the device indicates a full charge, disconnect the charger from the device, then from the wall outlet. You do not need to ch arge the battery for a specif ic length of time, and you can use the device while it is charging. If the battery is com pletely discharged, it may take several minutes before the charging indicator appears on the displa y or before any calls ca n be made. Note: The phone shall only be connected to products that bear the USB-IF lo go or have completed the USB-I F compliance program.
15 ■ T urn your devi ce on or off To turn your phone on or off, press and hold the End/Power key f or at least 3 se conds. ■ Antenna Your device may have internal and extern al antennas. As with a ny radio transmitting device, avoid touching the an tenna area unnecessarily while the antenna is tr ansmitting or receiving. Contact with such an antenna af fects the communication quality and may cause the de vice to operate at a higher power level than otherwise needed and may reduce th e battery life.
16 ■ Connect the headset Do not connect products that create an outpu t signal as this may cause dam age to the device. Do not connect any voltage source to the Nokia AV Connector. When connecting any external device or a ny headset, other than those appr oved by Nokia for use with this device, to the Nokia AV connector, pay special attention to volume levels. A compatible headset may be p urchased with your device or separately as a n accessory. 1. Open the h eadset connector port. 2. Plug the headset connector into the device. 3. Position the headset on your ear.
17 Warning: When you use the headset, you r ability to hear outside s ounds may be affected. Do not use the headset whe re it can endanger your saf ety. ■ Access code To configure access code se ttings, select Menu > Settings > Phone > Security , and enter your de fault lock code. See "S ecurit y setti ngs", p. 48 . If you forget the code and your device is locked, your device will require service and additional charges may apply. 20 1. Signal strength — Indicate s the strength of the signal. 2. Go to — Pr ess the left selection key to access a list of your favorite applications. 3. Menu — Press the m iddle selection key to ac cess the main me nus. 4. Names — Press the right s election key to access your contacts list. 5. Battery strength — Four bars indicate a fully charged battery. To access the Calendar menu, press the scroll key up. To access the Messaging menu, p ress the scroll key down. To access Downloads applications, press the scroll key left. To access the browser, pr ess the scroll key right. To activate the external m edia keys when the fold is closed and music is playing, press the volume keys.
21 ■ Indicators and icons Depending on your device setti ngs and modes, som e or all of the followi ng indicators and icons may appear in the standby mode. To view how to a ccess the complete glossary, see "Phone de tails", p. 51 . You are in a digital network. You are in an EVDO only network. You ar e in a 1xR TT net work. You ar e in a 1x/ EVDO networ k. You are in an EVDO /D only network. Flight mode is on. You are roaming outside your home network. SSL security feature is on. Voice privacy is a ctivated. Data call: a wireless data call is i n progress. Dormant mode: no device functions a re used during a data call. No service. TTY is enabled.
22 Voice call: a call is in progress. Bluetooth is on. Battery level. All sounds off. Alarm only is on. Vibrate mode is on. Loudspeaker is on. You have m issed calls . There are new messages in your inbox. A calendar appointment is set. There are new voicemails. Alarm clock is on.
23 3. Call fu nctions ■ Make a c all 1. Enter the phone number, including the country code and ar ea co de, if nec ess ary. To dele te a c har acte r, pr ess the clear key. 2. Press the send k ey to call the number. Use the volume keys to adjust th e volume of the earpiece or headset during the phone call. 3. To end the call, press the end key. ■ Answer or r eject a call To answer a n incoming call, press the s end key. To reject the call, press the volume keys dow n until Silent mode is displayed. You ca n set how you answer an incoming call. See "Answer options", p. 47 .
24 ■ 1-touch dialing To dial a single-digit 1 -touch dialing number (1–9), pr ess and hold the numb er of the assigned key. To dial a multi-digit 1 -touch dialing number (10-999), press the first number(s), and press and hold the last numbe r. To assign 1-touch dialing n umbers, see " 1-touch dialing", p. 31 . ■ Loudspeaker To use the loudspeaker du ring a call, press the loudspeaker key. To turn the loudspeaker of f, press the loudspeaker key again. Warning: Do not hold the device n ear your ear when the loudspeaker is in use, because th e volume may be extremely loud.

T ext entry Your devic e of fers f ive metho ds fo r ente rin g text s, numbers, and symbols: Wor d , Abc , ABC , 123 , and Symbols . • Press the left selection key to change the text entry mode. • Press the clear key to backspace the cu rsor and delete a char acter. • Press and hold the clear key to de lete an entire word. • Press # to enter a space, or to a ccept a completed word in Word mode. • Press * to ch ange the character case in word or Abc mode. ■ Word (abc) mode Word mode is a predictive text entry method that uses a built-in dictionary to quickly suggest commonly used words. 1. Press the corresponding key on your keypad once for each letter.
26 • If the displayed word is not correct, press 0 to view other options. • If the desired word does n ot appear, delete your entry, and enter the word in Abc mode. 2. Pre ss # to confirm a word and insert a space. ■ Abc (ABC) mode Press a key repeat edly until the desired letter appears. ■ Enter special charact ers and punctuation marks To scroll through some common punctuation marks and special characters in A bc mode, press 1 repeatedly. To enter a num ber in word or Abc mode, press and hold the desired number key.
27 5. Ca ll log Information about missed, r eceived, or dialed calls is stored in the Call log menu. When the n umber of ca lls exceeds the m aximum, th e most recen t call replaces th e oldest. To view a call log, select Menu > Call log and from Missed calls , Received calls , Dialed numbers , All calls , and Call duration . To reset all timers ( except Lifetime calls an d Lifetime data ) in Call duration , sel ect Clear all .
28 6. Contacts Contact entries can be as signed to 1-touch dialing keys, picture IDs, r ingtones, and groups. ■ Create new contacts 1. Select Menu > Contacts > Add new contact. • To add the name of the contact, scroll to the Name: field, and enter a name. • To add a phone number for the contact, scroll to th e Mobile 1: , Home: , Wor k: , Mobile 2: , or Fax: field, and enter a n umber. The default phon e number is Mobile 1. • To add an email address for the contact, scroll to the E-mail 1: or E -mail 2: field, and enter an email address. • To add a contact to a gr oup, scroll to the Group: field, select Set and the desired group. • To add a picture ID for the contact, scroll to the Image: f ield, select Set and the desired image.
29 • To assign a ringtone for the contact, scroll to the Ringing tone: field, select Set and the desired ringtone . 2. Select Save . To quickly create a contact in the sta ndby mode, enter the number and select Sa ve > Save new contact . ■ Contact list To view the cont act list, select Me nu > Contacts > Nam es . Contact list options In the standby mode, select Names > a co ntac t > Opti ons , and from the following: Add n ew contact — Create a ne w contact. Delete contact — Delete the contact. Send text message — Send the co ntact a text message. Send picture message — Send the con tact a picture message . Send video message — Se nd the contact a video message. Call — Dial the contact.
30 Send business card — Send the con tact as a business card to another device via Blu etooth. Delete all — Delete all contacts. ■ Groups To access the Gro ups menu, select Men u > Contacts > Groups . A contact can only be associated with one group at a time. Create a new group Select Menu > Conta cts > Groups > New , enter the new group name, and select Save . Add contacts to a group 1. Select Menu > Contacts > Groups . 2. Scroll to a group, and select View > Add . 3. Scroll to each con tact to be added, and select Mark > Done .
31 Send a group message To send a message to a group, select Menu > Contacts > Groups , scroll to a group, and select Options > Send text message , Send picture message , or Send video message . Your network must support this service in order for th e feature to work. ■ 1-touch dialing You can associate a ny mobile, home, or work entry in the contact list with a 1-touch dialing location from 2 to 999. This is network service. To u se 1-touch dialing, you must first activate the 1-touch d ial f eature. See "1-touch dial", p. 47 . Set up 1-touch dialing 1. Select Menu > Contacts > 1-touch dialing . 2. Scroll to an unassigned 1-touch dialing location, and sel ect Ass ign . 3. Select the contact you want to assign to th e 1-touch dialing location.
32 4. Scroll to the mobile, home, or work number you want to assign, and select OK > Ye s . ■ Emergency contacts Your device contains three pr eset numbers as emergency contacts. You can call emergency contacts even if your device is locked. Se e "Security settings", p. 48 . Call an emergenc y cont act To call an emergency contact, select Me nu > Cont acts > Emergency , scroll to an emergency contact, and sele ct Call .
33 7. Gallery In Gallery you can manage images, video clips , music files, themes, graphics, tones, recordings, and received files. Digital rights mana gement Content owners may use different types of digital rights management (DRM) technologies to pr otect their intellectual property, including copyrights. This device uses various types of DRM software to access DRM- protected content. With this device you can access conte nt protec ted with OMA DRM 1. 0. If certa in DRM software fails to protect the content, content owners my ask that such DRM software’s ability to access new DR M- protected content be revoked. Revocation may also prevent renewal of such DR M-protected content already in your device. Revocation of su ch DRM software does not affect the use of content protected with other types of DRM or the use of n on-DRM-protected content. Digital rights management (DRM) protected content comes with an as sociated activation key that defines your rights to use the con tent.
34 ■ P erson alize yo ur devi ce To use a t one, sele ct Menu > Gallery > Tone s , scroll to a tone, and select Set as and from the available options. To use a multimedia file, select Menu > Gallery > Images , Videos , Mus ic fil es , or Sounds , scroll to a file, and select Options and f rom the available options. ■ T ransfer multimedia files to your device All multimedia files must h ave a file name no longer than 32 char acters. To transfer images to your device you must first create the folder "my-pix" on your microSD card. You must do this by inserting the microSD card into your computer. When the folder exists in your microSD, you can then save images from your computer to the folder "my_images." Remove the microSD from the com puter, insert the microSD card into the phone, and then select Menu > Gallery > Images to use your files.
35 To transfer videos to you r de vice you must first create the folder "my-flix" on your microSD card. You must do this by inserting the microSD card into your computer. When the folder exists in your microSD, you can then save videos from your computer to the folder "my_videos." Remove the microSD from the com puter, insert the microSD card into the phone, and then select Menu > Gallery > Videos to use your files. To transfer m usic files to your device you must first create the folder "my-music" o n your microSD card. You must do this by inserting th e microSD card into your computer . When the folder exists in your microSD, you c an then save music fr om your computer to the f older "my_music." Remove the mi croSD from the computer, i nsert the microSD card into the phone,, and then select Menu > Gallery > Music files to use you r files.
36 8. Messaging Messaging features are network services. Note: The message sent icon or text on your device screen does not indicate that the message is received at the intended destination . ■ T ext messages A mess age that exceed s the character limit is sent a s a series of two or more messages. Your s ervice provider may charge accordingly. Characters that use accents or other marks and characters from some language options take up more space, and limit the number of characters that can be sent in a single message. Write and se nd a text message 1. Select Menu > Messaging > Create message > Text message . 2. I n the To : f ield, enter the recipient’s phone number.
37 3. In the Text: field, write a message. An indicator at th e top left of the display shows th e total number of characters left. 4. Select Send , or press the s end key. Read and re ply to a te xt message When you receive a message, a notification and are displayed. Select OK to read the message, or Exit to dismiss the notifica tion and read the mess age later from the Inbox f older. If necessary, scroll up or down to view the whole message. With the messa ge ope n, select Rep ly > Text message , Picture message , or Video message , write your reply, and select Send . Text message options When the cu rsor is in th e text entr y field, select Options and from the following: Preview — View your message. Use template — In sert text fr om the Templates folder. Insert slide — Add a slide to the message.
38 Priority level — Set the priority level. Depending on your network services, you may receive a m essage that includes an in ternet address where you ca n view the multimedia m essages. Only compatible devices that have compatible features can receive and display mu ltimedia messages. The appearance of picture and video messages may vary depending on th e receiving device. The wireless network may limit the siz e of MMS messages. If the inserted picture exceeds this limit, the device may make it smaller so that it can be sent by MMS. For the information about supported f ormats, contact your service provider. Impo rtant : Exercise caution w hen opening messages. Messa ges may contain malicious software or otherwise be harmful to your device.
39 Compose and send a multimedia message 1. Select Menu > Messaging > Create message > Picture message or Video mess age . 2. I n the To : f ield, enter the recipient’s phone number. 3. In the Text: field, write a message. An indicator at the top of the display shows the total number of characters left. 4. If you select Listen later , the Voicemail icon is dis played in the standby mode. To listen to a new voice m essage, select Listen now > OK . To access your voice mailbox , select Call . The number of new messages an d the date and time of the last message received are displayed. To reset the voicemail c ounter, select Clear . The new voicemail icon will no longer appear on the screen. ■ Delete a message To delete a message, select Menu > Messaging > Options and from the available options. ■ Message settings To configure settings f or messages, in the stan dby mode, select Men u > Messaging > Settin gs and from the available options.

This device is c ompliant with Bluetooth specification 2.0, supporting the following pr ofiles: HSP V1.1 (Headset Profile), HFP V1.5 (Hands-Free Profile), and DUN V1.1 (Dial-up Networking). An acti ve Bluet ooth connection is indicated by at the top of th e display. To pair your device and another device with Bluetooth, select Men u > Settings > Bluetooth > Add new device . You can also send var ious content to another device (such as images, videos, business cards etc. ) by selecting the paired device and press Select . 58 15. Battery and charger informa tion Your device is power ed by a rechargeable battery. The battery intended for u se with this device is BL-5C 1020 mAh Li-Ion battery. Nokia may m ake additional battery models available for this device. This device is intended for use when supplie d with power from th e following chargers: AC-6U travel charger. The exact charger model number may vary depending on the type of plug. The plug variant is identified by one of the following: E, EB, X, AR, U , A , C , o r U B . The battery can be charged and discharged h undreds of times, but it will eventually wear out. When the talk and standby times are noticeably shorter than normal, replace the battery. Use on ly Nokia approved batteries, and recharge your batt ery only with Nokia approved chargers designated for this device. Use of a n unapproved battery or charger may present a risk of f ire, explosion, leakage, or other hazard. If a battery is being used for the f irst time or if the ba ttery has not been used for a pr olonged period, it may be necessary to connect the charger, then disconnect and

11 1. In icio ■ Retirar la cubierta posterior y la batería Nota: Siempr e apague el dispositivo y desconecte el cargador y todos los otros dispositivos an tes de retirar la cubierta. Ev ite tocar los componentes electrónicos mientras que cambia la cubierta. Siempre guarde y use el dis po sitivo con la cubierta colocada. 1. Coloque la parte posterior del teléfono orientada h acia arriba. 2. Presione y deslice la cubierta posterior en la dirección que se in dica. 3. Saque la batería del compartimiento.

Presione el otro extremo de la batería para colocarla en su lugar. 3. Vu el va a co lo car la cubierta posterior de modo que las lengüetas de la cubierta queden alineadas con la s ranuras del teléfono. Deslice la cubierta posterior en la dirección que se in dica.
13 ■ Insertar y retirar la tarjeta microSD Utilice sólo tarjetas microSD aprobadas por Nokia con este dispositivo. El dispositivo a dmite tarjetas microSD de hasta 2 GB. Nokia utiliza estándares industriales aprobados para las tarjetas de memoria, pero algunas marcas podrían no ser totalmente compatibles con este dispositivo. Las tarjetas in compatibles pueden dañ ar la tarjeta y el dispositivo, adem ás de los datos almacenados en la tarjeta . Para insertar la ta rjeta microSD: 1. Levante la tapa de la ra nura para la tarjeta microSD. 2. In serte con f irmeza la tarjeta. Cuando la tarje ta se ajuste en el lu gar, escuchará u n clic.
14 Para retirar la tar jeta, presiónela firmemente hasta que salga de la ranura y deslícela hacia afuera. Importa nte: No retire la tarjeta de mem oria en medio de una operación cuando se esté accediendo a la tarjeta. Si la retir a durante una operación, se pueden dañar la tarjeta y el dispositivo, y se pueden alterar los datos almacenados. ■ Cargar la batería 1. Cone cte el carg ador a un tomacorriente de pared. 2. Conecte el cargador al dispositivo. 3. Cuando el dispositivo indique carga completa, desconecte el cargador del dispositivo y luego del tomacorriente.
15 No necesita cargar la bat ería por un periodo específico de tiempo y puede utilizar el di spositivo mientras se carga. Si la batería está completament e descargada, es posible que pasen varios minutos antes de que e l indicador de carga aparezca en la pantalla o antes de pode r hacer alguna llamada. Nota: El teléf ono sólo debe con ectarse a productos que tengan el logotipo USB-IF o que hayan completado el programa de cumplimien to con USB -IF . ■ Encender o apagar el dispositivo Para encender o apagar el teléfono, mantenga pulsada la tecla Encender/Apagar/Finalizar durante al menos tres segu ndos.
16 ■ Antena Su dispositivo puede tener una antena inter na y una externa. Al igual que con otros dispositivos de radiotransmisión, evite e l contacto innecesario con el área de la antena mientras la antena transmite o recibe señal . El contacto con la antena afecta la calidad de la comunicación y puede hacer que el dispositivo requiera más energía de la necesaria para funcionar, lo que reduce la vida útil de la batería. ■ Conectar el auricular No conecte productos que emitan una señal de salida, porque puede dañar el dispositivo. No conecte ningun a fuente de tensión al Conector Nokia AV. Cuando conecte al Con ector Nokia AV algún dispositivo externo o auricular que no sean los aprobados por Nokia para este dispositivo, pr este especial atención a los niveles de volumen.
17 Puede comprar un auricular compatible al momento de adquirir el dispositivo o c omprarlo separado como accesorio. 1. Abra el puerto del conector del auricular. 2. Enchufe el conector del auricular en el dispositivo. 3. Coloque el auricular en su oído. Avis o: Cuando utilice el auricular, su capacidad para oír los sonidos exteriores pu ede verse afectada. No u se el auricular en condiciones que pongan su seguridad en peligro.
18 ■ Código de acceso Para configurar los ajustes del código de acceso, seleccione Menú > Prog > Tel éf o no > Seguridad e ingrese el código de bloqueo predeterminado. 21 ■ Modo en espera y a ccesos directos Dependiendo del proveedor de ser vicios inalámbricos y del número de modelo del dispositivo, es posible que algunos o todos los indicadores y las teclas de acceso directo a continuación estén disponibles en el modo en e spera. 1. 25 3. Func iones de llam ada ■ Realizar una llamada 1. Ingrese el número del dispos itivo con el código del país y el código de ár ea, si es necesario. Para borrar un carácter, pulse la tecla Borrar. 2. Pulse la tecla Enviar para llamar al n úmero. Use las teclas de volumen para aju star el volumen del audífono o del auricular du rante la llamada telefónica. 3. Para finalizar la llamada, pulse la tecla Finalizar. ■ Contestar o rechazar una llamada Para contestar una lla mada entrante, pulse la tecla Envia r. Para rechazar la llamada, pulse las teclas para bajar volumen ha sta que aparezca Modo silencio . Puede configurar cómo contestar una llamada entrante. Consulte "Opc iones de r espuesta", p. 50 .
26 ■ Marcación rápida Para marcar un número de m arcación rápida de un dígito (1 a 9), mantenga pulsado el número de la tecla asignada. Para marcar un número de marcación rá pida de múltiples dígitos (10 a 999), pu lse el o los primeros números y mantenga pulsado el último número. Para asignar números par a marcación rápida, consulte "Marcación rápida", p. 3 3 . ■ Altavoz Para usar el altavoz durante una llamada, pulse la tecla del altavoz. Para desactivar el altavoz, vuelva a pulsar la tecla del altavoz. Avis o: Cuando use e l altavoz, no sostenga el dispositivo cerca del oído, ya que el volumen puede resultar demasiado alto.

Ingreso de texto El dispositivo ofrece cinco mé todos para ingresar textos, números y sím bolos: Pred. , Abc , ABC , 123 y Símbolos . • Pulse la tecla de selección izquierda par a cambiar el modo de ingreso de texto. • Pulse la tecla B orrar para retroceder el curso r y borrar un carácter. • Mantenga pulsada la tecla Borrar para borrar una palabra completa. •P u l s e l a t e c l a # para ingresar un espacio o para aceptar una palabra completada en el modo Pred. •P u l s e l a t e c l a * para cambiar a m ayúscula o minúscula en el modo Pred o A bc. ■ Modo Pred El modo Pred es un método predictivo de ingreso de texto que utiliza un diccionario incorporado para sugerir rápidamente palabras de uso común.

Si cierto software DRM no brinda prote cción adecuada de contenido, lo s propietarios del conteni do pueden solicitar la revocación de la capacidad de dicho software DRM de acceder a nuevos contenidos protegidos con DRM. E sa revocación también puede impedir la r enovación de dicho contenido protegido con DRM que ya está en su dispositivo. Nota: El icono de mensaje enviado o el te xto en la pantalla de su dispositivo no indican qu e el mensaje haya sido recibido por el destinatario deseado. ■ Mensajes de te xto Un mensaje que excede el límite de caracteres se envía como una serie de dos o más mensajes. Es posible qu e su proveedor de servicios le cobre los cargos correspondientes. Los caracteres con tilde u otros signos, y los caracteres especiales de algunos idiomas ocupan más espacio, lo que limita el número de caracteres que se pueden enviar en un solo mensaje.

Este dispositivo cumple con la especificación 2.0 de Bluetooth que admite los s iguien tes perfiles: HSP V1 .1 (perfil de auricular), HFP V1.5 ( p erfil de equipo manos libres para auto) y DUN V1.1 (acceso telefónico a redes). Para asegurar el funcionamiento con otr os dispositivos que admiten tecnología Bluetooth, utilice los accesorios aprobados por Nokia para este modelo.
