Reference information This ch apter contains safety and ma intenance inform ation and spec ifications for your product. â Battery informa tion For battery installation and replaceme nt information, see " R e p l a c e t h e b a t t e r y , " p . 1 2 . Your phone is powe re d by a rechargeable battery. The full performance of a new battery is achieved only after tw o or three complete charge and disch arge cycles. The b atte ry ca n be charge d and dischar ged hundre ds of times but i t will eve ntually wear out . When the talk an d standby times a re notic eably shorter th an normal, buy a new battery. Use only Nokia approved batteries, and recharge your battery only with Nokia approved chargers designated for this phone. If a replacement battery is being used for the first time or if the battery has not been used for a prolonged period, it may be necessa ry to conn ect the charger then disconne ct and reconnect it to beg in ch arging the battery. Unplug the charger fr om the electri cal plug and the phone when not in use. Do not lea ve the ba ttery connect ed to a charge r. Over chargin g may s horte n its lifeti me. If left unused, a fully charged battery will lose its charge over time. Temperature ext rem es can affe ct the ab ilit y of your bat tery to char ge. Use the battery only for its intende d purpose. Never use any charger or batte ry that i s damaged. Do not sh ort-circuit th e battery. Accid e ntal short -circuiting c an occur wh en a metallic object such as a co in, clip, or pen ca uses direct c onnecti on of the positive ( ) an d negative ( -) t erminals of the batte ry. (These look like m etal strips on the battery.) This might happe n, for exam ple, when you carry a spare battery in your pocket or purse . Sho rt-circuiting the terminals may damage th e battery or the con ne cting obje ct. Leaving the battery in hot or cold places, such as in a closed ca r in summe r or winte r conditions, will reduce t he capacity an d lifetime of the ba ttery. Alway s try to keep the battery betw een 59ðF and 7 7ðF (15ðC and 2 5ðC). A phone wit h a hot or cold ba ttery ma y not work tempora rily, even w hen th e bat tery is fully char ged . Batte ry performance is particularly limite d in temperat ures well below freezi ng. Do not dispose of batteries in a fire as they may explode. Batteries may also explode if damaged. Dispose of batteries acco rding to local regulation s. Please recycle when possible. Do not dispose as household waste.

These recomm endations are consiste nt with th e independe nt research by an d recommen dations of Wireless Technology R esear ch. To minimize the potential for interferen ce, persons with pacemakers should: ⢠Alw ays k eep the phon e mor e t han 15 .3 c entim ete rs ( 6 i nches ) fr om thei r p acemak er. ⢠Not carry th e phone in a breast pocket.
Additional safety information 53 ⢠Hold the phone to the ear opposite th e pac emak er to minimize the pote ntial for interferenc e. If you suspect interferenc e, switch off your phone and mo ve the phone away. H eari ng aids Som e digi tal wir eless dev ices may interfe re w ith som e hearin g aid s. If int erferen ce occurs , consult yo ur s ervi ce provider. â Veh ic les RF signals may affect improp erly installed or inade quately shie lded electronic syst ems in m oto r vehic les such a s ele ctroni c fue l in jectio n syst ems , elec troni c antiskid (antil ock) br aking sy stems, ele ctronic s peed con trol system s, and ai r bag systems . For more information, che ck with the manufact urer or its represent ative of your vehicl e or any equipm e nt that has been added. Only qualified pers onnel should serv ice the phone, or install the phone in a vehicle. Faulty installation or service may be dangerous and may invalidate any warranty that may apply to t he phone . Check re gularly t hat a ll wireless p hone equipm ent in your vehicle is mo unted and operating properly. Do not store or carry flam mabl e li qui ds, g ases , or explo si ve ma ter ials i n th e s ame c ompartm ent as the phone, its parts, or enhancemen ts. F or vehicles equippe d with an air bag, remembe r that air bags inflate with great force. Do not place objects, including installed or portable wireless equipmen t in the area over the air bag or in the air bag deployment area. If in-vehicle wireless equipment is improperly installed and the air bag inflates, seri ous injury cou ld result. FCC regulation s prohibit using your wi re less ph one whi le in th e air . The us e of wireless telepho nes in an aircraft may be dangerous to the operation of the aircraft, disrupt the wireless telephone netw ork, and may be illegal. â Potentially explosi ve environments Switch off your phone when in any ar ea with a pote ntially explosive atmosphere and obey all signs and instructions. Potential ly explosive atmospheres include areas where you would norma lly be advis ed to turn off your vehicle engine. Sparks in s uch areas could cause an expl osion o r fire result ing i n bod ily injury or even d eath. Sw itch off the phone at refue ling poi nts suc h as ne ar gas pum ps at se rvice stat ions. Obs erve re strictio ns on t he use of r adio equ ipme nt in f uel dep ots, sto rage, and di stribut ion areas, chemical plants or where blasting operations are in progress. Areas with a potentially e xplosiv e atmosphere are often but not alw ays clearly ma rked. Thes e gui delin es wer e deve loped b y the indepen dent sc ient ific org ani zation I CNIRP and inclu de safety margins de signed to as sure the protection of all persons, regardless of age and health. The exposure guide lines for mobile devices employ a unit of measurement known as the Specifi c Absorptio n Rate, or SAR. The SA R limit stated in the ICNIRP guidel ines is 2.0 watts/kilogram (W/kg) averaged over 10 grams of tissue. Tests for SAR are conduc ted using standard operating positions with the devic e transmitting at its highe st certi fied power level in all teste d frequency bands. The act ual SAR level of an operating devic e c an be below the max imum value bec a use the device is designed to u se only the pow er required to reach th e network.
