The use of any other types may invalidat e any approval or w arranty, and may be dangerous. In particular , use of unapproved charge rs or batteries may present a risk o f fire, explosio n, leakage, or other ha zard. For availability o f approved a ccessories, please ch eck with y our deal er. When you disconnect the power cord of any accessory, grasp and pull the plug, not the cord . Battery Battery and charger informati on Your device is powered by a rechargeable bat tery. The battery intended for use with this device is BL-4S. Nokia may ma ke additional battery models ava i lable for this device. This device is intended fo r use when supplied wit h power from the fo llowing chargers: AC-3. The exact charger model number may vary depe nding on the typ e of plug. The plug variant is identified by one of the follo wing: E, EB, X, AR, U, A, C, or UB. The batte ry can b e charged a nd discharged hundreds of times, but it will eventually wear out. When the talk and standby times are noticeably short er than normal, replace the battery. Use only Nokia appr oved batterie s, and recharge your battery only with Nokia approved chargers designated for thi s device. Use of an unapproved bat tery or charger m ay pres ent a risk of fire, explosion, leakage, or other hazard. If a batter y is being used for the first time or if the battery ha s not been used for a pr olonged peri od, it may be necessary to connect the charger, then disconnect and reconnect it to begin charging the battery. If t he battery is completely discharge d, it may take several minutes before the charging indicator appea rs on the display or before any calls can be made. Always switch the device off and disconnect the charger before removing the battery. Unplug the charger from the electrical plug and the device when not in use. Do not leav e a full y charg ed batt ery connected to a charger, since overcharging may shorten its l ifetime. If left unused, a fully charged b attery will lose its cha rge over ti me. 56 Accessories
Always try to keep the battery between 15°C and 25°C (59°F and 77°F). Extreme temperatures r educe the c apacity and lifetime of the b attery. A device with a hot or cold b attery may not work temporarily. Bat tery performance i s particula rly limit ed in tempe ratures well below free zing. Do not short- circuit the battery. Accidental short-circuiting can occur when a metallic ob ject such as a coi n, clip, or pen causes direct connection of the positive ( ) and nega tive (-) termina ls of the batt ery. (T hese look like metal strips on the battery. ) This might happen, for exampl e, when you carry a spare batter y in your pocket or purse. Short-circui ting the terminals may damage the b attery or the co nnecting object. Do not dispos e of batteri es in a fire as they may exp lode. Batterie s may also explode i f damage d. Disp ose of batteries accordin g to local regulat ions. Please recycl e when possibl e. Do not dispose as househo ld waste. Do not dismantle, cut, open, cr ush, bend, deform, puncture , or shred cells or batteries. In the event of a battery l eak, do not allow the liq uid to come in contact with the skin or eyes. I n the event of such a leak, flush your skin or eyes immediate ly with water, o r seek medical help. Do not modify, remanufacture, attempt to insert fo reign objects int o the battery, or immerse or expose it to water or oth er liquid s. Improper batt ery use may res ult in a fire, explosion, or other hazard . If the device or ba ttery is drop ped, espec ially on a hard surfa ce, and you b elieve the battery has b een damaged, take it to a service ce ntre for inspecti on before continuing to use it. Use the batt ery only for its intended purpose. Nev er use any char ger or battery that is da maged. Keep your battery ou t of the re ach of sm all children. Tests for SAR are conducted using sta ndard operating posi tions with the device transmitting at its highest certified Additional safety info rmation 63
power leve l in all tested fre quency bands. The a ctual SAR lev el of an operating devic e can be below the maximum value because the device is designed to use only the power re quired to reach the network. That amount changes depending on a number of factors such as how close you are to a network base station. The highest SAR va lue under the ICNIRP guidelin es for us e of th e device at the ear is 0.59 W/kg. Use of device accessories may result in different SAR values. SAR values may vary depending on national reporting and testin g requireme nts and the network band.
