When the operating tim e (talk-time and stand-by time) is notic eably shorte r than norm al, it is time to buy a ne w batte ry. • When a charger is not in use, disconnect it from the power source. Do not leave th e battery conne cted to a ch arger for longe r than a week, since overcharging may shorte n its life. If left unused a fully charge d battery will disch arge itself over time. • For good operation times, discharge the NiMH batt ery from time to time by leaving your phon e switched on un til it turns itself off (or by us ing the battery disch arge facility of a ny approved a ccessory available for your phone). Do not attempt to discharge th e battery by any othe r means. • Temperature extremes will affe ct the ability of your batt ery to charge: allow it to cool do wn or warm up first. • When the battery is running out of power and only few minutes of talk time remain, a warning tone is heard and Batte ry low is briefl y displayed. When no more tal k time is left, Battery empty is displaye d and a warning tone is sounded and the pho ne switches itself of f. • Use the battery only for its intended p urpose. • Never use any charger or batte ry that is damaged or worn out. • Do not short-circuit the b attery. Accidental short-ci rcuiting can occur when a metallic ob ject (coin, clip or pen) causes di rect connection of the a nd - terminals of the battery (metal strips on the back of the battery) for exa mple when you carry a spare battery in your pocket or purse. Short-circuiting the terminal s may damage the battery or the connecting object. • Leaving the battery in hot or cold places, such as in a closed car in summer or winter conditions, wil l reduce the capacity and lifetime of the ba ttery. Always try to keep the battery between 15 ° C (59 F) and 25° C (77 F). A phone with a hot or co ld battery may temporarily not w ork, even when the battery is fully charged. The performance of NiM H batteries is parti cula rly limited in temperatur es below -10 ° C (14 F) .
