F a ilu re to compl y with these guide lines co uld pr ove to be dan ger ous or illegal. For more detailed safety information, refe r to “Important safety inform ation” on page 1 05 . Road safety co mes fir st Don’t use your phone while driving. P ark your vehicle f irst. Switch off in hospitals Switch off your phone when you’re in a hospita l or ne ar medical equipment. Follow any regulations or rules that are in force. Switch off in aircraft Don’t use phon es on airplane s, this can cause in terferen ce with aircraft navigational equipm ent. Also, the u se of phones on airplanes is illegal. Swit ch o ff w h en r efu elin g Don’t use the phone at a refueling point or near fuel or chemicals of a ny kind. Int er fer en ce All phones are susceptible to inter ference, which could affect performance. T his interfe rence could pr event you from making an emergen cy call . Use s ens ibly Use only in the normal position (to ear). Avoid unnecessary contact with the antenna when the phone is on. Qualif ied ser vic e Only qu alified service personnel can install or r epair cellular phone equipm ent.

[ 7 ] Before you begin 3. Before you begin • Install the SIM card The slot for the SIM card is located on back of your ph one, beneath th e battery . To install the SIM card, be sure that the phone is turned off , an d perform the following steps: • If the battery is already attached, see “Remove the battery” on page 9. • If the battery isn’t attached, go to ste p 1. 1 Insert the SIM card as shown, with the gold contacts facing dow n. Impo rtant ! The beveled corner on the SIM card must match up with the beveled corner on the SIM slot. 2 Lock the SIM card into place by sliding the card holder to the left. [ 8 ] Install the batt ery 1 Align the battery with th e slots on back of th e phone. 2 Gently slide th e battery toward th e ant enn a until you he ar a click . Charge th e b attery 1 Plug the lead from the charger into the circular jack on the end of your phone. 2 Plug the AC adapter into a standard wall outlet. The phone beeps and the batter y bar on screen starts to scroll from bottom to top. Note: If the battery is empty , it will t ake a moment for the bar on screen to begin scrolling. Tip: Y ou can use the ph one while it’ s charging. 3 When the ba ttery bar stops scrolling, the battery is fully charged. Note: Charging time depends on th e charger a nd battery . For example, charging time for the BLS-2N battery with the ACP-7U charger is a bout 2 hou rs . 4 Disconnect the charger from the phone and unplug it f rom the wall outlet once th e battery is fully charged.
[ 9 ] Before you begin Remove the battery Note: Switch the ph one off before removing the battery . 1 Press the release button on back of the bat te ry . 2 Push th e battery towar d the bottom of th e phone until it stops. 3 Lift the battery to remove. • Switch the phone on Do not switch the ph one on where wir eless phone use is prohibited or when it may cause interfer ence or danger! 1 Press and hold until you see the display light up (about 3 se conds). 2 Enter the PIN code (if necessary) and press OK . •N a v i ™ roller Y ou’ ll probably use the Navi roller as m uch or more than any other key on your p hone. Use th e roller in tandem with the selection keys to navigate menus, select items in lists, connect to the inte rnet, and much mor e. • Roll the roller up or dow n to scroll through a list or to page throu gh menus and submenus. • Press the roller to do th e followin g (dependin g on wh at is displayed): • Show details of a h ighlighted name or number . • Display a submenu. • Select a highlighted f unction or setting.
[ 1 0 ] Tip: A press of the roller at th e Start screen displays the Nam es Lis t fro m the Phone book. Y ou can change this function so that a roller press displays other features. See “C ustomize the roller” on page 6 1 for more information. • Y our phone’s clock Y ou can set th e tim e, the ti me fo rmat (12/ 24 hr ), a nd wh ether you wa n t to display the clock on screen or hide it from vie w . Show or hide the clock 1 At the Start scr een, press Me nu . 2 Scroll until Setti ngs appears and pres s the roller . Time settings appears on screen . 3 Press the roller , scroll until Clock appears, and press the roller again. Sh ow c loc k is highlighted. 4 Press the roller . Cl ock show n appears on screen. Note: T o hide the clock, follow the steps above, bu t scroll to Hide c lock (in s tep 4) i nstea d of Sho w c loc k . Select the display format Y our ph one supports both 12 and 24-hour display formats. 1 At the Start scr een, press Me nu . 2 Scroll until Set t in gs appears and press the r oller . Time settings appears on screen . 3 Press the roller an d scroll until Clock appears. 4 Press the roller and scroll to Time fo rmat . 5 Press t he roll er , scroll to 24-hou r or am/pm , and pr ess the rolle r again. am/ pm s el ec te d or 24- hour cl oc k sele ct ed appears on s creen.

Time settings appears on screen . 3 Press the roller an d Scroll until Clo ck appears. 4 Press the roller , scroll to Set t he ti me , and press th e roller again. 5 Scroll with the roller to ch ange the hour (or u se the keypad). 6 When the correct hour is displayed, press the r oller . The minutes are highligh ted. 7 Scroll with th e roller to change the minutes, or you can enter the minutes using th e keypad. 8 Press OK . 9 Scroll to am or pm and press the r oller . Time is set appears on screen.

Return to the S tart screen from anywhere by pressing . HOME Y our ser vice provider’s name often appears here. The segmented bar above this icon indicates signal strength. The h igher the bar - th e str onger the sign al. The segmented bar above this icon indicates the battery level. The higher the bar - the more power left in the bat tery . Header an d scroll bar When y ou’r e nav igati n g menu s, a h eader appears at th e top of your s cree n. Th e header shows the menu or submenu in which you’r e workin g. The scr oll bar show s t he menu nu mber as well as the menu’s relative position within the me nu st ru ctu re. Adjust the di splay contrast 1 At the Start scr een, press Me nu . Scro ll bar Head er

In this guide, each selection key is r eferred to by the text above it, inside the screen (such as Me nu or Nam es ). For example, pr essi ng Menu displays the first of m any menus. Sim ilarly , pressing Nam es displays the Phone book menu. • The sliding cover The sliding cover pr otects the keypad and can be used to answer , end , or r eject a call. • T o open th e cover , sli de it down. • T o close the cove r , slide it up until you hear a click. Tip: Closing the cover exits the menu or Phone book and returns you to the Star t screen. Just in case... Y ou can navigate the men us using the roller and selection keys, or you can use a shortcut. • Importan t info about shortcu t s Shortcuts ar e a quick and easy way to access features. However , they don’t always work (for the reasons descr ibed below). Some feat ures are dependent upon your s ervice provider. The absence of a f eature not on ly affects the m enu number f or that featur e but other feat ures within the menu as wel l. If you try to "shortcut" to a feature affected in th is manner , an error me ssage such as the one on the right appears. If this happens, tr y to locate the feature using the roller and s election keys. If you ca n ’t locate the feature, contact your service provider for more information about the feature in question. The Help Feat ure A brief help description is available for most menus and submenus. Just go to an y me nu and wait for 1 0 seconds. Use a shortcut Note: The Messages ( 1), Calculator (7), and Ca lendar (8) su bmenus can’t be accessed using shortcuts. Access the m enus and submenus of these functions using th e roller method only .

T o use voice mail, your service provider must furnish a voic e mail subscr iption an d a voice mailbox nu mber . Also, the voice mailbox number must be saved to your p hone. Y our ser vice provider can te ll you how to r ecord a mailbox greeting and how to change the temporary password. When you receive a vo ice message, your phon e lets you kno w by beeping, displaying a message, or both . The exact method of notification depends upon your service provider . • If you receive more than on e voice mail message, your phon e displays the nu mber recei ved. • If you’ve subscribed to m ore than one ph one lin e, a message indicates which line ha s the messag e. • Save th e voi ce mailbox nu mber * 1 At the Start scr een, press Me nu . 2 Press the roller an d scroll until V oice messa ges appears. 3 Press the roller an d scroll until V oice mailbox number appears. 4 Press the roller , enter the voice m ailbox numb er , and press OK . If you have tw o phone lin es* Y our phone can support two lines if your service provider has programmed your SIM card for this feature. If you decide to u se two phone lines, you need to select a line for outgoing calls on ly . However , you can answer calls on both lines. If you wish to h ave this feature enabled, contact your service provider . Y ou’ ll also be given a voice mailbox number for each line. Y ou need to save each line’s voice mailbox number separately (see “Save t he voice mailbox number*” earlier in th is section). • Listen to your voice m essages* Once you’ve setup you r voice m ailbox, call i t and begin listenin g to your voice messages using any of the following m ethods: • Call the number as you would any number . Once the pre -recorded greeting begin s, enter your user ID and f ollow the voice instructions. • If you’ve saved the voice mailbox number to your ph one, call the number by pre ssing and holding . • If there’s a n otification message in your display and List en appears at the bottom, you can press List en to call your voice m ailbox. When you hear the pr e-recorded greeting, pre ss , and then follow the on-line voice prompts to h ear your me ssages.

Pressing St op aborts the recording. • For best results, choose a qu iet location wh en creating a voice tag (avoid areas with background noise). • Unique tags a re recognized more a ccurately . Consider using the f irst and las t nam e, or us e the first name , las t n ame, and num ber type when tagging a number . Predictive text uses a formula to "guess" the letter of each word that you’re spellin g. It’s ver y accurate, and re quires only one press of the key for each le tter . Tip: Because the “guessed” word ch anges as you enter each letter , try not to look a t the screen until y ou’ve finished enterin g the word. Note: Y ou can add new words to the diction ary at any time. Note: Predictive text inp ut might not be available for all languages. The mobile community began developing W AP several years ago to give mobile device users access to the internet. T oday , most W AP sites are made up of text a nd hyperlinks, with some capable of text inpu t and selection items i n a list. Some pages even con tain low-resolution gr aphics. Because your service provider and others are free to design W AP sites as they choose, each site can vary almost as much as a web page on the Inte rnet. • The Services menu The Servic es menu allows you to use your WA P browser to view news, w eather reports, check flight times, access financial information, and much more . Y ou can also save the addre ss of any W AP page as a bookmark, much th e same as a web pa ge on your personal computer . Note: Y ou may need to subscr ibe to additional s ervices before you’re able to use the br owser . Also, your service provider may have to configure your phon e for br owsing after you ’ve subscribed. Contact your service provider f or more information . Impo rtant ! Internet content received o ver a secure connection and stored in your browser's cache may be reused over non - secure connections and may cr eate security issues.
