General inf ormati on 9 Gene ral information ■ Acc ess c odes Security code The secur ity code (5 t o 10 digits) helps to protec t your phone a gainst unauthorized use. The preset cod e is 12345. To change the code, and to set t he phone to request the c ode, see “Securit y,” p. 56. PIN co des The pers onal identificat ion number (PIN) code and the unive rsal personal ide ntification number (UPIN) code (4 to 8 digits) help t o protect your SIM card against unauthorized use. See “Security,” p. 56. The PIN2 code (4 t o 8 digits) may b e supplied wit h the SIM c ard and is required for some functions . The module PIN is required to access the information in t he security module. See “Secur ity module,” p. 77. The s igning PIN is require d for the digit al signature. See “Digital signature,” p. 78. PUK c ode s The pers onal unblocking key (PUK) code and th e universal pers onal unblocking k ey (UPUK) code (8 digits) is required to cha nge a b locked PIN code and U PIN code, respectively. The PUK2 c ode (8 digits) is required to change a blocked PIN2 code. If the codes are not supplied with the SIM card, contact your local service provider for the codes. When you have received the settings as a configuration message, and the settings are not aut omatically saved and activated, Configuration settings received is displayed. To sav e the settings , select Show > Save . If r equired, enter the PIN code supplied by the service provider. Keep all SIM card s and memo ry cards out of the reach of smal l children . For availability and informa tion on using SIM card s ervices, contact your SIM card vend or. See “Nokia battery authentication,” p. 81. The SIM c ard and its cont acts can ea sily be damage d by scratches or bending, s o be caref ul when handling, ins erting, or r emoving the card. To remove the back cover of the phone, press and slide t he cover (1). Remove th e battery as shown (2). O pen (3) the SIM card holder. Insert t he SIM c ard properly into the holder (4). Slide the back cover int o its place (8, 9 ). ■ Inse rt a mi cro SD car d Keep all micr oSD memo ry cards ou t of the reach of small chi ldren . Switch the phone off, and r emove t he back c over and the battery of the phone. Slide the memory card holder to unloc k (1) and open the card holder (2). Insert the me mory card into the car d holder with th e cont act surfac e fac ing backwards (3), and close the c ard holder (4). Slide the card holder to lo ck it (5). Replace the battery and close the back cover of the phone. Use only compa tible micr oSD cards with thi s device. Other memo ry cards, such as Reduc ed S ize M ult iMed ia ca rds, do not fit in th e mi croSD card slot and are not compatible with this de vice. Using an in compatib le memory ca rd may damage the memory ca rd as well as the device , and data sto red on the inco mpatible ca rd may be corrupted. Use only microSD card s approv ed by No kia for us e with th is device . Nokia uti lizes the approved industry standards for memory cards but not all other b rands may function correct ly or be fully compati ble with this device . Ge t st arted 13 ■ Char ge t he batt ery Check the model number of any charger before use with this device. This device is intended for u se when supplied with po wer from an AC-3 charger. Warn ing : Use o nly batteri es, chargers, and en hancements appro ved by Nokia for use with this particular model. The use o f any other types m ay inv al idat e an y ap pro val or warra nty , and may b e d ange rous. For availabili ty of approve d enhancemen ts, please check with your dealer. Wh en you disconn ect the power cord of an y enhancemen t, gras p and pul l the plug, not the cord. 1. Connect t he charger to a wall socket. 2. Connect the lead from the charger to the sock et on the bottom of your phone. If the battery is completely discharged, it may take a few minutes before the charging indicator appe ars on the display or before any calls ca n be made. The c harging time depends on the charger used. Char ging a BL-4B battery w ith the AC-3 charger takes appr oximately 2 hours and 20 minutes while the phone is in the standby mode. ■ Op en an d clos e th e pho ne To open the phone rotate the upper part to the r ight (1) or to t he left until it snaps int o place. To clos e the phone, rotate the uppe r part down in the opposite direct ion (2). Imp o rta nt: When you ope n th e phon e, r otate t he up per pa rt 180 degree s to the lef t or right. Do not rotate the upper part more tha n 180 d egrees. If you force the upp er part more than 180 degrees in eit her di rec tion, t he ph one will be d amaged. Se t th e time an d date Enter the local time, se lect the t ime zone of your location in terms of the time difference w ith re spect to Greenwic h Mean T ime (GMT), and enter the date. Plug an d pl ay s ervi ce When you switch on your phone for the first time, and the phone is in the standby mode, you are asked t o get the c onfiguration settings from your service provider (net work servic e). Note : As wi th any othe r radi o transm itting device, do not t ouch the antenna unnec essarily when the device is swit ched on. All messag es are organized into folders. ■ Text m ess age With t he short mes sage s ervice (SMS) y ou can send and rece ive text messages, and receive messages that can contain p ictures (network servi ce) . Before y ou can send any text or SMS e-mail message, you mus t save your message center number. See “Message s ettings, ” p. 38. To che ck SMS e-mail service ava ilability and to subs cribe to t he service, contact your service prov ider. To save an e-mail address in Contacts , see “Save details, ” p. 41. Your device supports the s ending of text mes sages beyond the ch aracter limit for a single message. Lo nger mes sages will be sent as a se ries of tw o or more messages. Your service provi der may charge accord ingly. Charact ers that use accents or other marks, and characters from some language options like Chinese, take up more s pace limitin g the n umber of charact ers that ca n be se nt in a single message. An indicat or at the t op of the dis play shows the total number of charact ers left and the number of messages nee ded for se nding. For example, 673/2 means that th ere are 673 charac ters left and that t he message wil l be sent as a s eries of 2 message s. Write and send a message 1. Your phone supports POP3 and IMAP4 e-mail servers. Before y ou can send and retrieve a ny e-mail mes sages, you must obtain a new e-mail account or us e your current a ccount. To chec k the availability of your e-mail ac count, contact your e-mail servic e provider. Check y our e-mail sett ings with your e-mail service pr ovider. You may receive the e-mail configuration settings as a configuration message. See “Configuration settings service,” p. 10. To ac tivate the e-mail se ttings, sele ct Men u > Messaging > Message settings > E-mail messages . See “E-mail messages,” p. 40. This application does not support keypad tones. Sett ing w izard The s etting wizard w ill start aut omatically if no e-mail settings are defined in t he phone. The Manage accounts options allow you to add, delete, and change the e-mail settings. To manage the folder s and their e-mail cont ent, select Options to vi ew the available opt ions of each folder. Spam f ilt er To ac tivate and def ine a s pam filter, select Options > Spam f ilter > Settings in t he main e- mail idle sc reen. The s pam filter allows y ou to put specific senders on a black or white li st. Black lis t sender me ssages are filtered t o the J unk folder. Unk nown and white list sender mes sages are downloaded int o the account inbox. To blacklis t a sender , select t he e-mail message in the Inboxes folder and Options > Blacklist sender . ■ Ins tan t mes sagi ng With instant messaging (IM) ( network service) you can send short, simple text messages to online users. You have to s ubscribe to a service and r egister with the IM service you want to use. For more information about signing up f or IM services, contact your service provider. The security module may contain c ertificates as well as private and public keys. The cer tificates are saved in the security module by th e service provider. Using the digit al signature can be t he same as s igning your name t o a paper bill, contract, or other document. Check that the header text is Read and that the digital s ignature icon is shown.
