Network services To use the device yo u must have service from a wireless service provider . Some features are no t available on al l networks; other fe atures may require that you make specific arrangements w ith your service pr ovider to use t hem. Network services involv e transm ission of da ta. Che ck with your servic e provid er for d etails abou t fees in your home network and when roaming o n other networks. Your service provider can explain what charges will apply. Some networks may have limitations that affect how you can use som e features of this de vice requiring netw ork support such as support for sp ecific technologie s like WAP 2.0 protoco ls (HTTP and SSL) that run on TCP/IP protocols and language- depende nt charac ters. Your service provide r may have requeste d that certain features be di sabled or not act ivated in your device. If so, these features will not appear on your device menu. Your device may also have customized items s uch as menu names, menu order, a nd icons. Shared m emory The following features in this device may share memory: multimedia mes saging (MMS). If your devi ce displays a message that the memory is full, delet e some of th e information stored in the shared memory. Accessories Warning: Use only bat teries, charger s, and accessori es approved by Nokia for use with this particular model. The use of any oth er types ma y inval idate any appr oval or wa rranty , and ma y be dangerous. In particular, use of unapproved chargers or batteries may present a risk of fi re, explosion, leakage, or other hazard. For availability o f approved accesso ries, please check with your dealer. When you disconnect the power cord of any accessory, grasp and pull the pl ug, not the cord. Battery Battery and charge r inform ation Your device is powered by a rechargeabl e battery. The battery intended for use with th is device is BL-5J. Nokia may make additional batt ery models availa ble for this device. This device is intended for use when supplied with power fro m the following chargers: AC-3. The exact charger model number may vary depending on the type of plug. The plug variant is i dentified by one of the following : E, EB, X, AR, U, A, C, K, or UB. The battery can be charged and discharged hundre ds of times, b ut it w ill eve ntually wear out. When the ta lk and standby times are no ticeably shorter than normal, r eplace the battery. U se only Nokia app roved batteri es, and recharge your battery only wi th Nokia approve d chargers designat ed for this devic e. If a battery is being used for the firs t time or if the batt ery has not been use d for a prolon ged period , it may be ne cessary to connect the ch arger, then di sconnect and re connect it to begin charg ing the battery. If t he battery is co mpletely discharged, it may take several minutes before the charging indicator appears on the display or before any calls can be made. Safe removal. Always s witch the device off and disconnect the charger before removing the battery. Proper charging. Unplug the charger from the electrical plug and the device when not in use. Do not leave a fully charg ed battery connected to a charger, since overcharging may shorten its lifetime. If left unused, a fully charged batt ery will lose its ch arge ov er time. Avoid extreme tempera tures. Always try to keep the batter y between 15°C and 25°C (59°F and 77°F). Extreme temperatures reduce the capaci ty and lifetime of the battery. A device with a hot or cold batt ery may not work tempor arily. Battery perf ormance is par ticularly limit ed in temperat ures well below fr eezing. Do not short-circuit. Accidental shor t-circuiting can occur when a metallic object such as a coin, clip, or pen causes dire ct connection of the positive ( ) and negative (-) termina ls of the battery . (Thes e look like me tal strips on the batte ry.) Th is might happen, fo r example, when y ou carry a spare b attery in your pocket or purse. S hor t-circuiting the terminals may damage the battery or the connecting o bject. Disposal. Do not dispose of b atteries in a fire as they may explode. Di spose of batte ries according to local regulati ons. Please recycle when possible. Do not dis pose as household waste. Leak. Do not disma ntle, cut, open, crush, bend, puncture, or shred cells or batteries. In the even t of a battery leak, preve nt battery liquid contact with skin or eyes. If this happens, flush the affected are as immediately with wat er, or seek medical help. 32 Product and safety information © 2011 Nokia. All righ ts reserved.
Damage. Do not modify, remanufacture, attempt to insert foreign ob jects into the batte ry, or imm erse or expo se it to water or ot her liquids. Batt eries may explode if damaged. Correct use. U se the batter y only for its i ntended purpose. Improper batt ery use may result in a fire, explos ion, or other hazard. If the d evice or ba ttery is droppe d, especially on a hard surface, and you b elieve the battery has bee n damaged, take it to a servic e centre for inspection before continuing to use it. Never use any char ger or battery tha t is damaged. Keep your battery out of the reach of small childre n. Take care of your device Handle your device, battery, charger and acce ssories with care. The following suggestions help you protect your warranty covera ge. • Keep the device dry. Revocati on may also prevent renewa l of such DRM-pr otected content alr eady in your device. Revocation of such DRM software does not affect the use of cont ent protecte d with other type s of DRM or the use of non-DRM-protected content. Digital rights management (DRM) protected c ontent comes with an associated licence th at defines your rights to use th e content. Other transf er methods may not trans fer the licences w hich need to be r estored with the con tent fo r you to be able to continue the use of OMA DRM-protected content after the device memory is formatted. You may also need to r estore the licence in case the files on your device get corrupted. If your device has WMDRM-prote cted content, both the licence and the content w ill be lost if the d evice memory is formatted. You may also lo se the licence and the co ntent if the files on your device get corrupted. Losing the licence or the content may limit your abil ity to use the same content on your device again. For more informat ion, contact your service provider. Some licences may be connected to a spec ific SIM card, and the protected content can be accessed only if the SIM card is inserted in th e device. Product and safety information 33 © 2011 Noki a. Certification informati on (SAR) This mobile device meets guidelines for exposure to radio waves. Your mobile devi ce is a radio trans mitter and receiver. It is designed not to exce ed the limits for expos ure to radio waves recommended b y internationa l guidelines. These guidelines were develope d by the independe nt scientific organi sation ICNIRP and include safety margins designed to a ssure the protection of all persons , regardles s of age and health. The expos ure guidelines for mobile d evices employ a unit of measurement known as the Specifi c Absorption Rate or SAR. The SAR limit stated in the ICN IRP guideli nes is 2.0 watts/ kilogram (W/kg) averaged over 10 grams of tissue. Tests for SAR are conducted using stand ard operating positions with the device tran smitting at its highest c ertified pow er level in all tested fr equency bands. The actual S AR level of an operatin g device can be b elow the ma ximum valu e because the device is d esigned to use only the pow er required to rea ch the network. That amount changes depending on a number of factor s such as how close y ou are to a ne twork b ase sta tion. The highest SAR val ue under the ICNIRP guidelines for use of the device at the ear is 1.09 W/kg. Use of device accessories may result in different SAR values. SAR values may va ry depending on nati onal reporting and testing require ments an d the ne twork ba nd. Add itional SAR information may be provide d under product information at www.nokia.com.
