Introduction 5 Engl ish Introduct ion Nokia Medallion II is a fashion enhancement, which enables you to carry your most c her is hed compatible digital images with you . Nokia Medallion II com es supplied with three pre-loaded images and it is easy both to add n ew images from a compatible ph one or PC and to delete old images. Read this user guide carefully before using Nokia Medallion I I. ■ Char gers and batteries Wa rni ng! Do n ot try to remove the battery. Contact qualified service personnel to change the battery when ne ed ed. Check the model number of an y charger before u se with this device. Nokia Medallion II is int ended for use with the following chargers: ACP-8 and ACP-12. Wa rni ng! Use on ly batteries and chargers approved by the ma nufactur er for us e with this pa rticular enh ancement. The us e of any other types will invalidate any approval or warranty applying to the enhancement, and may be dangerous. For availability of approved batter ies and chargers, please check with your dealer. When you disconnect t he power cord of any enhancement, grasp an d pull the plug, not the cord.    

Ov er view 7 Engl ish 1. Overvie w Nokia Medallion I I has the followin g keys and main parts: In this user guide , the keys are indicated by , and . There are three ways to press the keys. These are as follows: • Pre ss briefl y - press a key for less than one s econd • Press - press a ke y for longer than one second • Pre ss and hold - press and hold down the key (the f unction remains activated until you release the key) 4. Display 5. Infrared (IR) port 6. A tta chme nt bar 7. Charging cradle In dicato rs o n th e disp lay A connection is being attempted between Nokia Medallion II and another device. The indicator rolls right when you are creating a connection from N okia Medallion II and l eft when you are creating a con nection to Nokia Medallion II. An IR con nection has been established an d Nokia Medallion II is sending or receiving an image. The indicator r olls right when sending and left when receiving an image.  !  
Over view 8 IR connection has been lost or no connection is formed. Confirms that images have been success fully sent, received or deleted, or that the clock has been adjusted. The m em ory in Nokia Medallion I I is full, eight images have been saved. The image is corrupted or not su pported by Nokia Medallion II. For example, it m ay be too lar ge or not in a compatible JPEG for mat. The IR connection is terminated. The battery is ch arging. The animation s tops when the battery is fu ll. Nokia Medallion II is ready to delete an image. Battery status. The icon is also shown when ch arging (the icon moves randomly) and wh en the battery is low (the icon appears in the u pper left corner). ■ Connecting the cord or strap You can con nect a cord or str ap to Nokia Medallion II to ca rry it around your neck or on your wrist. Con nect the cord to Nokia Medallion II by sliding the hook hanging from the cord under the attachment bar on top of Nokia M edallion II (1). To connect the s trap, attach the hook the sa me way as in the cord. Turn the strap bar down (2) and slide the str ap under the bar. Secure the strap in place ( 3).    

Usin g No kia Meda llio n II ■ Char ging the battery Push down on th e charging cradle a nd slide it in pla ce around Nokia Medallion II as shown in the pictu re below. Make sure that the charging cradle and Nokia Medallion II fit as tightly togeth er as possible. Connect the c harger t o the back of the c harging cradle and to an AC wall socket. While charging, the screensaver is shown on the display. If Nokia Medallion II is switched on, after a pprox. 30 seconds it automatically switches the pow er off for more efficient charging. When chargin g Nokia Medallion II for the first time , charge it u ntil the battery is full. Note that w hen connecting the charger to Nokia Medallion II f or the fir st time or if you have not used Nokia Medallion II for a long per iod, you have to charge the device f or at least five minutes before the char ging icon appears on the display. ■ Switching the power on and off Press to s witch on Nokia Medallion II. Press to s witch off the power.  "  
Usi ng No kia Med all ion II 10 ■ Checking the time and ba ttery status To check the current time and battery status, briefly press when the power is switch ed on. Nokia Medallion II displays the current time an d the battery icon. A completely yellow battery is f ully charged, and a completely grey battery h as no ch arge. ■ Switching the li ghts on When th e power is on, the brightness of the background lights changes randomly. When the lights are dim, press br iefly any key to s witch on the bright lights for appr oximately 30 seconds. Use of the lights increases the de mand on battery power and reduces the operating time. If the battery leve l is low, th e bright lights cannot be switched on, and the icon is displayed in the upper l eft corner. ■ Viewing images If there is only one image in Nokia Medallion II, it is displayed when you switch on th e power. If there is more than one image in Nokia Medallion II, you ca n • press to select the next image. • press and hold to scroll through the images. ■ Sending an im age from Nokia Medallion II When the power is switched o n, select th e image you w ant to send so that it is on N okia Medallion II display. 1. Poin t the IR ports of Nokia Medallion II and t he receivin g compatible device at eac h other and ensure that th ere are no obstructions between the devices or ot her active IR devices nearby. 2. Pr ess to send the image. The icon indicates that the image is success fully sen t.    
Usi ng No kia M edall io n II 11 Engl ish ■ Receivin g an image with Nokia Medalli on II When the power is switched on, Nokia Medallion II can receive images. Note that Nokia Me dallion II may resize a nd crop the received images t o display them. The received im ages are also saved in the or iginal format and if you want to forward a received image, Nokia Medallion II sends it in the original format. 1. Point the IR ports of Nokia Medallion II and th e compatible sending device at each oth er and ensure that there ar e no obstructions between the devices or oth er active IR devices nearby. 2. Press briefly to activate the IR port of Nokia Medallion II to receive an image. 3. The user of the sen ding device starts to sen d the i mage. For more information on how to sen d the image from the oth er device, refer to the user guide of that device. T he icon indicates that the image is success fully sen t. ■ Deleting an image from Nokia Medallion II When the power is switched on, select the im age you want to dele te so that it is on the display. To begin deleting the image, press and simu ltaneously. The indicator shows that you are going to delete an image. To delete the image, simultaneously press and again within three seconds . Otherwise, the images will not be deleted. The image disappears in a pproximately three secon ds. Remember to make backup copies of your images by, for example, sending and saving them to an other compatible device.    
Usi ng No kia Med all ion II 12 ■ Setting the time To activate th e clock display, br iefly press when the power is switche d on. Within 10 seconds, pr ess again. The battery icon disappears and Nokia Medallion II is now ready for you to set the time. Within the following 10 seconds, press and hold to run th e clock forward or press and hold to run the clock backward. When you h ave changed the time, confirm it by b riefly pressing . Otherwise, the tim e will not be chan g ed.    
Battery informatio n 13 Engl ish 3. Battery information ■ Charging and discharging Nokia Medallion I I is powered by a rechargeable Li-Ion battery. Note that a new battery's full perfo rmance is achieved only after two or three complete char ge and dischar ge cycles! The battery can be charged and disch arged hundreds of times but it will eventually wear out. When the operating time is noticeably sh orter than normal, it is time to buy a n ew battery. Use only batter ies approved by the phone manufacturer and recharge your battery only with the chargers a p proved by the manufacturer. Unplug th e charger when n ot in us e. Do not leave Nokia Medallion II connected to a ch arger for longer than a week, since overcharging may shorten its lifetime. If left unused a fully charged battery will disc harge itself over time. Temperature extr emes can affect the ability of your battery to charge. Use the batter y only for its in tended purpose. Never use any c harger or battery which is da maged. Leaving Nokia Medallion II in hot or cold places, such as in a closed car in summer or winter conditions, will re duce the capacity an d lifetime of the battery. Always try to keep the battery between 15°C an d 25 °C (59°F and 77°F). Nokia Medallion II with a hot or cold battery may temporar ily not wor k, even when th e battery is fully char ged. Batteries' pe rforma nce is particularly lim ited in temperatures we ll below freez ing. Do not dispose of Nokia Medallion II in a fire! If you ne ed to remove or ch ange the battery for som e reason, conta ct the qualif ied ser vice personnel to do that for you. Do not attempt to do it yourself. For environmentally sound recycling, contact your local Nokia service point or ch eck local regulations for th e correct discarding of Nokia Medallion II (including its batt ery).    
Care and maintena nce 14 Care and maintenance Your Nokia Medallion II is a product of superior design a nd craftsmanship and should be tre ated with care. Th e suggestions below will h elp you to fulfil any warran ty obligations and t o enjoy this product for ma ny years. • Keep all enhanc ements out of the reach of small children . • Keep Nokia M edallion II dry. Precip itation, humidit y and all type s of liquids or moisture ca n contain min erals that will corrode electronic circ uits. • Do not use or store Nokia M edallion II in dus ty, dirty areas. Its mov ing parts can be damaged. • Do not store Nok ia Medallion II in hot are as. High temperatu res can shorten the life of electronic devices, damage batteries, and warp or melt certain plastics. • Do not store Nokia Medallion II in cold areas. When it warms up (to its normal temperatu re), moisture can form ins ide, which ma y damage e lectronic circu it boards. • Do not attempt to open Nokia Me dallion II. Non-expert han dling may damage it. • Do not drop, knock or sh ake Nokia Medallion II. Rough handlin g can break internal circ uit boards. • Do not use ha rsh chemicals , cleaning so lvents, or strong de tergents to cl ean Nokia Medallion II. • Do not paint Nok ia Medallion II. Pain t can clog the moving pa rts and prevent proper operation. If Nokia Medallion II is not working properly , take it to your neares t qualified service facility. The personnel th ere will assist y ou and, if necessary , arrange for ser vice.    
