4 Insert the (U)SIM card and batt ery The USIM card is an enhanc ed version of the SIM card and is supported by UMT S mobile phones. Keep all SIM car ds out of the reach of small children. Always switch the devic e off, and disconnect the charger bef ore removing the batt ery . 1. With the back of the device f acing you, press the release button ( 1 ), slide the cover (2 ), and lift it up (3 ). 2. Slide the (U)SIM card into the holder ( 4). Mak e sure that the bevelled corner on the car d is facing the base of the devic e, and that the contact area on the c ard is f acing the connectors on the device. 3. Insert the battery ( 5 ). 4. Replace the back cover .
5 Headset and remot e contr ol unit Y ou can use the headset to handle calls and t o listen to music on your Nokia N73 Music Edition device. Insert the headset plug into the headset connector of the remote c ontrol unit. Insert the Pop-Port plug of the remote c ontrol unit into the Pop-Port c onnector on your device. The headset is now ready f or use. T o make a c all, enter the number on the device keypad as you do when the r emote contr ol unit is not connected to your devic e. During the call, speak into the microphone of the remot e control unit. T o answer and end phone calls, press . T o control the music player , use the media keys of the remote c ontrol unit. T o adjust the earpiece volume, pr ess the volume key on the side of the remote c ontrol unit. T o lock the remot e control k eys, slide the lock switch on the side of the remote c ontrol unit. Switch the devic e on 1. Press and hold the power k ey ( ). 2. If the device asks for a (U)PIN c ode or lock code, enter it, and press . The factory setting f or the lock code is 12345.
6 When you switch on the device f or the first time, it may prompt you to set the f ollowing information: Select current city: , Time: , and Date: . Use the scr oll k ey and the number keys. T o find the city , enter the first letters of the city name. The city you select also defines the time zone for the clock in your device. Y our Nokia N73 Music Edition normally has MMS, GPRS, streaming, and mobile Internet settings automatically configur ed in the device, based upon your servic e provider or network oper ator information. Press to open the main menu. Y our service provider may have r equested that certain featur es be disabled or not activated in your devic e. If so, they will not appear on your device menu. Y our device may also have been specially c onfigured. This configur ation may include changes in menu names, menu order , and icons. Contact your service provider for more information. K eypad lock (k eyguard) Use the keypad lock t o prevent the k eys from being accidentally pr essed. Y our device has two internal antennas. Note: As with any other r adio transmitting devic e, do not touch either of the antennas unnecessarily when the devic e is switched on. Contact with the antenna affects call quality and may cause the devic e to operat e at a higher power level than otherwise needed. Not touching the antenna area during a phone c all optimizes the antenna performanc e and the battery life.
7 T o lock: In the standby mode, press , then . When the keys ar e locked, is shown on the display . T o unlock: Press , then . When the keypad lock is on, c alls may be possible to the official emergency number progr ammed into your device. T o turn on the display light when the keypad lock is on, pr ess . Insert the memory card Use only miniSD cards approved by Nokia f or use with this device. Nokia utilizes the approved industry standards f or memory cards but not all other br ands may function correctly or be fully c ompatible with this device. Use only compatible miniSD cards with this devic e. Other memory cards, such as Reduced Size MultiMediaCards car ds, do not fit in the MMC card slot and ar e not compatible with this device. Using an inc ompatible memory card may damage the memory car d as well as the device, and data stor ed on the incompatible card may be c orrupted. Y ou can use a compatible miniSD car d as extr a stor age space to save the memory on your device. Y ou can also back up information from your device to the memory c ard. Keep all memory car ds out of the reach of small children.
8 1. T o insert the memory card ( 1), plac e your nail in the recess below the door of the memory card slot, and open the door . 2. Insert the memory card in the slot ( 2). Mak e sure that the contact area on the c ard is f acing up and towards the slot. 3. Push the card in. Y ou can hear a click when the card locks into place. 4. Close the door . You cannot use the memory car d if the door is open. Eject the memory card 1. Before you eject the c ard, press , and select Remove mem. card. All applications ar e closed. 2. When Remove memory card and pr ess ‘OK’ is displayed, open the door of the memory card slot. 3. Press the memory car d to release it fr om the slot.
9 4. Remove the memory card. If the devic e is switched on, select OK. Important: Do not remove the memory car d in the middle of an operation when the card is being ac cessed. Removing the card in the middle of an oper ation may damage the memory card as well as the devic e, and data stored on the car d may be corrupted. T r ansfer c ont ent from another devic e T o use the T ransfer application, see the user guide. Nokia Content Copier is available in Nokia PC Suite t o copy cont ent from a compatible Nokia phone. See the CD-ROM supplied with your device. Nokia Content Copier supports sever al Nokia phone models. For mor e information on the devic es supported by each Nokia PC Suite, ref er to the www .nokia.com/pcsuite pages. Music player Copyright protections may pr event some images, music (including ringing tones), and other content fr om being copied, modified, tr ansferred or f orwar ded. Warning: List en to music at a moderat e level. Continuous exposure to high volume may damage your hearing. Do not hold the device near your ear when the loudspeak er is in use, because the volume may be extremely loud.
10 Play a song 1. Press . 2. Move the scroll k ey to navigate to a pr eferr ed song, artist or other category , and press the scroll k ey to open the category lists. 3. Press the scroll k ey to start playing the selected song. Use the scroll key t o navigate the controls. T o open the Now playing view of the music player from any other view , press . T o return to the previous view , press it again. T o select more music to play in the Now playing view , select Options > Go to Music menu. T o refresh the libr ary after you have updated the song selection in your device, go to Music menu , and select Options > Refresh Music libr ary . The songs on the memory card ar e available only when the memory card is insert ed. T ransfer music 1. Connect the data c able to a compatible PC and your devic e. Select Media player connection in your Nokia N73 Music Edition. 2. In a compatible version of Windows Media player , select the music transf er method from the f ollowing: • Synchronise all —The cont ent of your PC music library and your Nokia N73 Music edition is automatically made identical by transf erring music files in both directions. This happens every time you connect your device with a c ompatible version of
11 Windows Media Player . The playlists on your device are not synchronized with the PC. Y our PC library may c ontain more files that can fit to the devic e memory and the memory card of your Nokia N73 Music Edition. • Synchronise selected —Select manually what t o transf er and where. 3. Enter a name that is used as the name of your device in Windows Media player . T o synchronise selected: 1. After your device is c onnected with Windows Media Player , select your device in the tree list of the right hand column or the music libr ary in the left hand column. 2. Dr ag and drop the songs from the main column to the right c olumn. T o change the direction of the tr ansfer , choose the source fr om the treelist on the left column. 3. T o start the transf er , click the Sync to PC / Sync button at the bott om of the synchronization list. If you are tr ansferring songs to your device, the progr ess bar below the device icon shows the av ailable memory . For mor e information, see ‘Nokia N73 Music Edition’ in the user guide. T ak e pictures Y ou can use both camer as to tak e still pictures and recor d videos. The secondary camer a on the front is used in portrait mode, and the main c amera on the back in landscape mode. 1. T o start the main camer a, open the slide. The viewfinder opens in landscape mode. T o
12 zoom in and out, press the zoom k ey . 2. T o take a pictur e, press the captur e key . The picture is automatically saved to Gallery . • T o recor d video, select Switch t o video mode from the active toolbar . • T o use the secondary camer a, select Options > Use secondary c amera . The viewfinder opens in portrait mode. • T o send a picture you have just tak en, select Send from the active toolbar . Active toolbar in camer a and gallery The active toolbar shows shortcuts during camer a use. Scroll t o items, and press . If you want the active toolbar to be visible only a while when you need it, select Options > Hide icons. Y ou can activate the active toolbar by pressing . Share your pictur es 1. T o send a picture you have just tak en, select or press . 2. Select Options > Send > via multimedia. The MMS editor opens. 3. Enter recipients or gr oups from contacts, or ent er the recipient’s phone number 4. Press to send the message. Y ou can also send video clips and choose other sending methods such as e-mail, Bluetooth connectivity , and infrared. Y ou can also upload your photos and video clips into your online album.
13 Print your pictures Y ou can print pictures in these w ays: • On a compatible printer using the USB cable (PictBridge c ompatible printer requir ed) or Bluetooth connectivity (Bluetooth Printing Pr ofile compatible printer r equired). • At a compatible printing kiosk using Bluetooth c onnectivity or infrar ed, or from a compatible memory car d. • T o add pictures to Print Bask et (to be printed lat er) immediately after taking them, select Add to Print bask et . • T o add pictures to Print Bask et in Gallery , select . Stor e your pictures Y ou can stor e your pictures and videos to the device memory or on a c ompatible miniSD card. T ransfer pictur es and videos to PC 1. Install Nokia PC Suit e on your compatible PC. 2. Use Bluet ooth connectivity or the USB data cable to c onnect your device to the PC. 3. Use Nokia PC Suit e applications to tr ansfer pictur es and videos to the PC.
14 Useful shortcuts Standby mode • T o switch between open applications, press and hold . • T o start the camer a, open the slide. • T o call your voice mailbox (network servic e), press and hold . • T o open music applications, press (opens Music player) or press and hold (opens Radio). • T o change the profile, press , and select a profile. • T o switch between Gener al and Silent profiles, press and hold . If you have two phone lines (network service), this action swit ches between the two lines. • T o open the last dialed numbers list, press . • T o use voice commands, pr ess and hold . • T o start a connection to Services (network servic e), press and hold . Edit te xt and lists • T o mark an item in a list, scroll to it, and pr ess and at the same time. • T o mark multiple items in a list, press and hold while you press or . T o end the selection, release , then release . • T o copy and paste te xt: Press and hold to select letters and wor ds. Press or to highlight text. T o copy the t ext to clipboar d, while still holding , select Copy. T o insert the text into a document, pr ess and hold , and select Paste.
