4 Insert the (U)SIM card and batt ery The USIM card is an enhanc ed version of the SIM card and is support ed by UMTS mobile phones. Keep all SIM car ds out of the reach of small childr en. Always switch the devic e off, and disconnect the charger bef ore r emoving the battery . 1. With the back of the device f acing you, press the release button ( 1 ), slide the cover (2 ), and lift it up (3 ). 2. Slide the (U)SIM card int o the holder ( 4 ). Make sur e that the bevelled corner on the car d is facing the base of the device, and that the c ontact area on the card is facing the c onnectors on the device.
5 Switch the devic e on 1. Press and hold the power k ey ( ). 2. If the device asks f or a (U)PIN code or lock code, ent er it, and press . The fact ory setting for the lock code is 12345. Y our device has two internal antennas. Note: As with any r adio transmitting devic e, avoid touching an antenna unnecessarily when the antenna is in use. F or example, avoid touching the c ellular antenna during a phone call. Contact with a tr ansmitting or receiving antenna aff ects the quality of the radio c ommunication, may cause the device to oper ate at a higher power level than otherwise needed, and may reduce the batt ery life. When you switch on the device f or the first time, it may prompt you t o set the following inf ormation: Select current city: , Time: , and Dat e: . Use the scroll k ey and the number keys. T o find the city , enter the first letter s of the city name. The city you select also defines the time zone for the clock in your devic e. 3. Insert the battery ( 5 ). 4. Replace the back c over .
6 Y our Nokia N73 normally has MMS, GPRS, streaming, and mobile Int ernet settings automatically c onfigured in the device, based upon your servic e provider or network operat or information. Press to open the main menu. Y our service provider may have r equested that certain featur es be disabled or not activated in your devic e. If so, they will not appear on your device menu. Y our device may also have been specially c onfigured. This configur ation may include changes in menu names, menu order , and ic ons. Contact your service provider f or more information. K eypad lock (k eyguar d) Use the keypad lock t o prevent the k eys from being ac cidentally pressed. T o lock: In the standby mode, press , then . When the keys ar e lock ed, is shown on the display . T o unlock: Press , then . When the keypad lock is on, c alls may be possible to the official emergency number progr ammed into your devic e. T o turn on the display light when the keypad lock is on, press .
7 Insert the memory card (sold separ ately) Use only compatible miniSD cards appr oved by Nokia for use with this device. Nokia uses approved industry standards f or memory cards, but some br ands may not be fully compatible with this device. Inc ompatible cards may damage the car d and the device and corrupt data st ored on the card. Y ou can purchase a c ompatible miniSD card as e xtr a stor age space to save the memory on your device. Y ou can also back up information from your devic e to the memory card. Keep all memory car ds out of the reach of small childr en. 1. T o insert the memory card ( 1), place your nail in the rec ess below the door of the memory card slot, and open the door . 2. Insert the memory card in the slot ( 2). Mak e sure that the contact ar ea on the card is f acing up and towar ds the slot.
8 3. Push the card in. Y ou can hear a click when the card locks into place. 4. Close the door . You c annot use the memory card if the door is open. Eject the memory card 1. Befor e you eject the card, pr ess , and select Remove mem. card. All applications are closed. 2. When Remove memory card and pr ess ‘OK’ is displayed, open the door of the memory card slot. 3. Press the memory car d to release it fr om the slot. 4. Remove the memory card. If the devic e is switched on, select OK . Important: Do not remove the memory car d in the middle of an operation when the card is being ac cessed. Removing the car d in the middle of an operation may damage the memory card as well as the devic e, and data stored on the car d may be corrupted. 9 Nokia Content Copier is available in Nokia PC Suite t o copy cont ent from a compatible Nokia phone. See the CD-ROM supplied with your devic e. Nokia Content Copier supports several Nokia phone models. F or more information on the devices supported by each Nokia PC Suite, r efer to the www .nokia.com/pcsuite pages. T ak e pictures Y ou can use both camer as to tak e still pictures and r ecord videos. The sec ondary camer a on the front is used in portr ait mode, and the main camer a on the back in landscape mode. 1. T o start the main camera, open the slide. The viewfinder opens in landscape mode. T o zoom in and out, press the zoom key . 2. T o take a picture, pr ess the capture k ey . The picture is aut omatically saved to Gallery . • T o record video, select Swit ch to video mode fr om the active toolbar . • T o use the secondary camera, select Options > Use sec ondary camer a . The viewfinder opens in portrait mode. • T o send a picture you have just taken, select Send from the active toolbar .
10 Active toolbar in c amer a and gallery The active toolbar shows shortcuts during camer a use. Scroll to items, and press . If you want the active toolbar t o be visible only a while when you need it, select Options > Hide icons. Y ou can activate the active toolbar by pressing . Share your pictur es 1. T o send a picture you have just taken, select or press . 2. Select Options > Send > via multimedia. The MMS editor opens. 3. Enter recipients or gr oups from c ontacts, or enter the recipient’s phone number 4. Press to send the message. Y ou can also send video clips and choose other sending methods such as e-mail, Bluetooth connectivity , and infrared. Y ou can also upload your photos and video clips into your online album. Y ou cannot send video clips that are saved in the .mp4 format in a multimedia message. Print your pictures Y ou can print pictures in these w ays: • On a compatible printer using the USB c able (PictBridge compatible printer requir ed) or Bluetooth connectivity (Bluetooth Printing Pr ofile compatible printer
11 requir ed). • At a compatible printing kiosk using Bluetooth c onnectivity or infrar ed, or from a compatible memory car d. • T o add pictures to Print Basket (t o be printed later) immediately after taking them, select Add to Print bask et . • T o add pictures to Print Basket in Gallery , select . Stor e your pictures Y ou can stor e your pictures and videos to the devic e memory or on a compatible miniSD card. T ransf er pictures and videos t o PC 1. Install Nokia PC Suite on your compatible PC. 2. Use Bluetooth connectivity or the USB data c able to connect your devic e to the PC. 3. Use Nokia PC Suite applications to tr ansfer pictures and videos to the PC.
