Get started Insert SIM card and battery Safe remov al. Alwa ys switch the device off and disconnect the charger before removing the battery. The SIM card and its contacts can be easily damaged by scratches or bending, so be careful when handling, inserting, or removing the card. 1 Remove the bac k cover by li fting it from the top end of the device (1). 2 Remove the battery (2). 3 Open the SIM card holder, and insert the SIM card (3). Charge the ba ttery Your battery has been partially charg ed at the facto ry. If the device indi cates a low charge, do the following: 1 Connect th e charger to a wa ll outlet. 2 Connect th e charger to the devi ce. 3 When the device indicates a full charge, disconnect the charger from the device, then from the wa ll outlet. You do not need to charge th e battery fo r a specific length of time, a nd you can use the device while it is ch arging. The PIN code supplied wi th the SIM card protects the card against unauthorised use. T h e PIN2 code supplied with some SIM cards is required to access certain services. If you enter the PIN or PIN2 code inc orrectly three times in succession, you are asked for the PUK or PUK2 code. If you do not hav e them, contac t your se rvice provide r. The module PIN is required to access the information in the security module of your SI M card. The s igning PIN may be required for the digital si gnature. The barr ing password is required when using th e call barring service. To set how your phon e uses the ac cess codes and securi ty settin gs, select Menu > Settings > Se curity . Unlock th e keypad Select Unloc k > OK , or open the slide. If the security keyguard is acti vated, en ter the security code when requested. Set au tomatic ke ypad lock Select Menu > Settings > Phon e > Automati c keyguard > On , and set the length of time, after which the keyp ad locks. Answ er a call when the keyp ad is locked Press the call key. When you end or reject the call, the keypad locks automa tically. When the device or keypad is locked, calls may be po ssible to the official emergency number programmed into your device. Write text Text modes To enter tex t (for example, wh en writing mess ages) you can use tradit ional or pr edictive tex t input. When you write text , press a nd hold Opt ions to switch between tradition al text input, indicated by , and predictive text input, indicated by . Not all languages are supported by predicti ve text input. The character cases are indicated by , , and . To change the character case, press # . T o ch a ng e f ro m t h e letter to number mode, indi cated by , press a nd hold # , and select Number mode . To chang e from the n umber to th e letter mod e, pres s and hold # . To set th e writing lang uage, s elect Options > Writing language . Traditio nal text input Press a number key, 2-9, re peatedly until the desired characte r appears. If the ne xt letter you want is located on the same key as the present one, wait until th e cursor appears , and enter the letter. To access the mos t common punctua tion marks and speci a l characters, pr ess 1 repeatedly. To acc ess the list of special characters, pr ess * . Predicti ve te xt inpu t Predictive text input is base d on a built-in dictionary to which y ou can also add new wor ds. 1 Sta rt writing a word, using the keys 2 to 9 . Press each key only once for one letter. 2 To confirm a word, scro ll right or add a space. ⢠If the word is not correct, press * repeatedly, an d select the word from the list. ⢠If the ? cha racter is displayed after the word, the word you intended to write is not in the dictionary. Navigate the menus The phone func tions are grouped into men us. Not all men u functions or option it ems are described here. In the standby mode, select Me nu and the desired menu and submenu. Select Exi t or Bac k to exit the current level of menu. Press the end key to return to the standby mode directly. Mes sag ing You can read , write, send, a nd save text, mu ltimedia, audio, and flash messages , and e-ma il. The mes saging services can only be used if your network or service provider supports them. Text and mult imedia mess ages You can crea te a message a nd optionally a ttach, for example, a picture. Your ph one au tomatica lly changes a text messag e to a multimedia messa ge when a file is attached. Text messages Your de vice supports te xt me ssages beyond th e limit for a single me ssage. Lon ger messages are sen t as two or more messa ges. Your serv ice provid er may charg e a ccord ingl y. Characters with accents, ot her marks, or some language options take more sp ace, an d limit the number of characters that can be se nt in a sin gle messa ge. To send messages, the corre ct message centre number must be stored in your device. Normally , this number is set by default throug h your SIM card. To set the nu mber manually, select Menu > Messaging > Message sett ings > Text me ssages > Message centres > Add centre , and enter a name and the number from the service pro vider. Mult imedia m essages A multimedia message ca n contain text, pi ctures, an d sound or video clips. Only devices that ha ve compat ible features can receive and display multimedia message s. The ap pearan ce of a messa ge may vary dependin g on the receiving device. The wireless network may limit the size of MMS messa ges. If the inserted picture exceed s this limit, the device may make it smaller so that it can be se nt by MMS. Important: Exercise caution wh en ope n ing messages. For availability and subscr iption to th e multimedia messa ging service ( MMS), contact your service provide r. You may als o download th e configuration settings. Create a text or multimed ia mes sage 1 Select Menu > Me ssag ing > Cre ate mess age > Message . 2 To add recipients, scroll to the To: field, and enter the recipientâÂÂs nu mber or e-mail address, or select Add to select recipients from th e availa ble options. Selec t Options to add recipients and subjects and to set sending options. 3 Scroll to the Te xt: field, and enter the mess age text. 4 To attach cont ent to the mes sage, scroll to the attachmen t bar at the bottom of th e display and select the desired type of content. 5 To s end th e messa ge, p ress Send . The messa ge type is in dicated at t he top of the display a nd changes a utomatically depen ding on the content of the me ssage. Nokia Xpress audio messages Create and s end an au dio messag e using MMS in a convenient way. 1 Select Menu > Me ssag ing > Cre ate mess age > Audio m essage . The voice recorder opens. 2 Rec ord your message . 3 Enter one or more phone numbers in the To: field, or select Add to retrieve a nu mber. 4 To s end the message , select Send .

Using the e-mail applicati on to send an e-mail is not the same as sending an e-ma il as a text messag e. Before you can use e-mail, you must have a n e-mail account and the corr ect setting s. To check the availability and the sett ings of your e-mail account, conta ct your e- mail service provider. You may rec eive the e-mail configura tion setti ngs as a config uration message . Instant messagi ng With ins tant messagi n g (IM, net work service) y ou can send short text messages to online us ers. You must subs cribe to a service and reg ister w ith th e IM service you want to use. Check the availability of th is service, pricing, and instructions with your serv ice provider . Settings Profiles Your phon e has va rious sett ing groups called p rofile s, which you can customise with ringing tone s for different events and environments. Select Menu > Settings > Profil es , the desired pr ofile, and from the following options: Activ ate â to activate the s elected profile Person alise â to change th e profile settings Time d â to set the profile to be active for a certain time . When the time set for the profile expires, the pr evious prof ile that w as not timed beco mes activ e. Tones You can change th e tone settings of th e select ed active pro fil e. Vide o mode Use t he vide o fu nction Select Menu > Media > Video . Start recording a video clip Select Record . When recording, lower quality video can b e recorded for a greater length of time. To chan ge the quality settings , and to set the max imum lengt h of the video clip, sele ct Menu > Media > Camera > Opt ions > Sett ings > Video clip qu ality or Video clip length . Switch between camera and video mode In camera or video mode, scroll left or right. FM radi o The FM radio depends on an antenna other th an the wireless dev ice antenn a. Get started Insert SIM card and battery Safe remov al. Alwa ys switch the device off and disconnect the charger before removing the battery. The SIM card and its contacts can be easily damaged by scratches or bending, so be careful when handling, inserting, or removing the card. 1 Remove the bac k cover by li fting it from the top end of the device (1). 2 Remove the battery (2). 3 Open the SIM card holder, and insert the SIM card (3).
