3 S AFETY I NFORMA TION AND USEFUL T IPS Safety Information ⢠Disconnect mains plug when : â the red light belo w the TV screen is flashing continuousl y . â a bright white line is displa yed acr oss the scr een. â cleaning the TV scr een. Never use abrasiv e cleaning agents. Use a slight damp chamois leather or soft cloth. â there is a lightning storm. â the set is left unattended for a pr olonged period of time. ⢠No nak ed flame sources, such as lighted candles, should be placed on top of the TV or in the vicinity . ⢠Do not place your TV set under direct sunlight or heat. ⢠Lea ve at least 5 cm ar ound each side of TV set to allow f or proper v entilation. ⢠Av oid placing your set (e.g. near the window) where it is lik ely to be exposed to rain or water . ⢠No objects filled with liquids should be placed on top the TV so as to a void dripping or splashing of liquids on the set. Useful Tips ⢠Do not lea ve y our set on standby mode for a pr olonged period of time. Switch off set to allow it to be demagnetised. A demagnetised set supports good picture quality . ⢠Do not shift or mov e the set around when it is s witched on. 4 B EFORE C ALLING S ER VICE Below is a list of frequentl y occurred symptoms. Before y ou call for service, make these simple checks. Some of these symptoms can easily be rectified if you kno w what to do. Symptom What y ou should do Colour patch ⢠Switch off the TV by the mains pow er button. W ait for 20 (unev eness) minutes befor e switching on again. ⢠Check the TV is not placed too near speakers or magnetic objects. No power ⢠Check the TVâ s AC pow er cord is plugged into the mains socket. If ther e is still no power , disconnect plug. W ait for 60 seconds and re-insert plug. Switch on the TV again. No picture ⢠Check the antenna connection at the rear of the TV . ⢠P ossible TV station problem. T r y another channel. Good picture ⢠T r y increasing the v olume. but no sound ⢠Check that the sound is not muted. If it is muted, press the Mute button on the remote contr ol to restor e sound. Good sound but poor ⢠T r y increasing the contrast and brightness setting. colour or no picture Snowish picture and ⢠Check antenna connection at the rear of the TV . noise Horizontal dotted lines ⢠P ossible electrical interference e.g. hairdryer , vacuum cleaner , etc . Switching on the Set ⢠Press the main pow er button to switch on/ off the TV . ⢠If the set is on standby (indicator is red), press the Pow e r button on the remote control to switch on set. 6 Y ou can view the playback of VCR tapes (Video Disc players , camcorders , etc .) by using the AUDIO and VIDEO INPUT sockets on the r ear of the TV . â Connect the VIDEO and AUDIO IN sock ets on the r ear of the TV to the AUDIO and VIDEO OUT sock ets on the VCR. The S-Video connection on the rear of the TV is used for the playback of S-VHS VCR tapes , Video Discs, Video Games or Compact Disc-Interactive (cd-i) discs. Better picture detail and clarity is possible with the S-Video playback as compared to the picture from a normal antenna (RF) connection. â Connect the S-VIDEO sock et on the rear of the TV to the S-VHS OUT socket on a S-VHS VCR. â Connect the AUDIO IN sock ets from the r ear of the TV to the AUDIO OUT sockets on the VCR. Note : Y ou need not connect the VIDEO IN socket of the TV if S-VIDEO IN socket is connected. For mono equipment, connect only the AUDIO L sock et. Press button r epeatedly until Name is selected. Enter name mode. Select the channel you want to name. Move to first character slot. A cursor appears for y ou to start the input of characters. Select the character you want. Move to next character slot by the Cursor Right button and select the next character . Y ou can enter up to a maximum of 5 characters.
