2 English Mains plug This apparatus is ï¬Âtted with an approved moulded 13 Amp plug. T o change a fuse in this type of plug proceed as follows: 1 Remov e fuse cover and fuse. 2 Fix new fuse which should be a BS1362 5 Amp, A.S.T .A. or BSI approv ed type . 3 Reï¬Ât the fuse cov er . If the ï¬Âtted plug is not suitable for y our socket outlets, it should be cut off and an appropriate plug ï¬Âtted in its place. If the mains plug contains a fuse, this should have a value of 5 Amp . If a plug without a fuse is used, the fuse at the distribution board should not be greater than 5 Amp. Note: The severed plug must be disposed to avoid a possible shock hazard should it be inserted into a 13 Amp sock et elsewhere. Ho w to connect a plug The wires in the mains lead are coloured with the following code: blue = neutral (N), brown = live (L). ⢠As these colour s may not correspond with the colour mar kings identifying the terminals in your plug, proceed as follows: ⢠Connect the blue wire to the terminal mar ked N or coloured b lack. ⢠Connect the brown wire to the terminal mar ked L or coloured red. ⢠Do not connect either wire to the ear th terminal in the plug, mar ked E (or e ) or coloured green (or green and yello w). Before replacing the plug cov er , make cer tain that the cord grip is clamped over the sheath of the lead - not simply ov er the two wires. Batteries (not included) 1 Open the batter y compar tment and inser t six batteries, type R-14, UM-2 or C-cells, (preferably alkaline) with the correct polarity as indicated by the " " and " âÂÂ" symbols inside the compar tment. 2 Close the compar tment door , and make sure the batteries are ï¬Âr mly and correctly in place. The set is no w ready to oper ate. Batteries contain chemical substances, so they should be disposed of pr operly. 7 English Incorrect use of batter ies can cause electrolyte leakage and will corrode the compar tment or cause the batter ies to bur st. Therefore: ⢠Do not mix batter y types: e .g. alkaline with carbon zinc. Only use batter ies of the same type for the set. ⢠When inser ting new batter ies, do not tr y to mix old batteries with the new ones. ⢠Remo ve the batteries if the set is not to be used for a long time. Using A C Mains 1 Check if the mains voltage, as shown on the type plate located on the bottom of the set, cor responds to your local mains supply . If it does not, consult your dealer or ser vice centre . 2 Connect the mains lead to the A C MAINS inlet and the wall socket. The mains supply is now connected and ready for use. 3 T o switch off completely , unplug the mains lead from the wall socket. ⢠Unplug the mains lead from the wall socket to protect your set during heavy thunder storms. The type plate is located on the bottom of the set. 8 English Radio reception 1 Adjust the source selector to MW or FM to select your desired wa veband. 2 Tu r n TUNING to tune to a r adio station. T o impro ve reception â For FM, pull out the telescopic aer ial. Incline and tur n the aerial. Reduce its length if the signal is too strong (ver y close to a transmitter). â For MW the set is provided with a built-in aerial so the telescopic aer ial is not needed. Direct the aerial by tur ning the whole set. 3 T o switch off the r adio, adjust the source selector to T APE/ OFF position and check the cassette keys are released. 9 English Selecting a differ ent track During playback you can use the SEARCH buttons to select a par ticular track. ⢠If you ha ve selected a track number in the stop or pause position, press PLA Y ⢠P AUSE 2; to star t pla yback. ⢠Press SEARCH ç once brieï¬Ây for the next track, or press repeatedly until the desired track number appear s in the display . ⢠Press SEARCH â once brieï¬Ây to retur n to the beginning of a current tr ack. ⢠Press SEARCH â more than once brieï¬Ây for a previous track. Finding a passag e within a track 1 During playback, press and hold down SEARCH â or ç . ⢠The CD is play ed at high speed and low volume. 2 When you recogniz e the passage you want release the SEARCH button. â Nor mal playback resumes. Note: When searching within a ï¬Ânal tr ack and you reach the end of the last track, the CD goes to stop mode. Pla y modes REPEA T can be selected or changed during playback in the following sequence: REPEA T â plays the current tr ack continuously REPEA T ALL â plays the entire CD continuously 1 During playback, press REPEA T once or more until the desired REPEA T mode is shown. ⢠Y ou can use SEARCH â or ç to skip tracks dur ing the repeat modes. ⢠The REPEA T play options can be combined and used with shufï¬Âe: e .g. T o stop fast winding, press ST OP ⢠OPEN 9/ . 7 T o stop the tape , press ST OP ⢠OPEN 9/ . ⢠The keys are automatically released at the end of the tape , and the set is switched off, except if P AUSE ; has been activated. General information on recor ding ⢠Recording is permissible insofar as copyright or other rights of third par ties are not infringed. ⢠This deck is not suited for recording on CHROME (IEC II ) or MET AL (IEC IV) type cassettes. For recording, use only NORMAL type cassettes (IEC type I) on which the tabs hav e not been broken. ⢠The best recording level is set automatically . Altering the V OLUME and DBB controls will not affect the recording in progress. ⢠At the ver y beginning and end of the tape, no recording will take place during the 7 seconds when the leader tape passes the recorder heads. ⢠T o protect a tape from accidental er asure, hav e the tape in front of you and break out the left tab. Recording on this side is no longer possible. T o record ov er this side again, cov er the tabs with a piece of adhesive tape. 12 English Precautions & General Maintenance ⢠Place the set on a hard and ï¬Âat surface so that the system does not tilt. ⢠Do not expose the set, batteries, CDs or cassettes to humidity , r ain, sand or excessive heat caused by heating equipment or direct sunlight. ⢠Do not cov er the set. Adequate ventilation with a minimum gap of 6 inches between the ventilation holes and surrounding surfaces is necessar y to prevent heat build- up. ⢠The mechanical par ts of the set contain self-lubricating bear ings and must not be oiled or lubricated. ⢠T o clean the set, use a soft, slightly dampened chamois leather . Do not use any cleaning agents containing alcohol, ammonia, benzene or abrasives as these may harm the housing. T ape deck maintenance T o ensure quality recording and playback of the tape deck, clean par ts A, B and C shown in the diagram below , after approx. 50 hour s of operation, or on average once a month. Use a cotton bud slightly moistened with alcohol or a special head cleaning ï¬Âuid to clean the deck. 1 Open the cassette door by pressing ST OP ⢠OPEN 9/ . 2 Press PLA Y 1 and clean the r ubber pressure roller C. 3 Press P AUSE ; and clean the magnetic heads A, and also the capstan B . 4 After cleaning, press ST OP ⢠OPEN 9/ . â Cleaning of the heads can also be done by playing a cleaning cassette through once. CD pla yer and CD handling ⢠The lens of the CD play er should never be touched! ⢠Sudden changes in the surrounding temperature can cause condensation to form and the lens of your CD play er to cloud ov er . Playing a CD is then not possible. Do not attempt to clean the lens but lea ve the set in a warm environment until the moisture evaporates. ⢠Use only Digital Audio CDs. ⢠Alwa ys close the CD door to keep the CD compar tment dust-free . 12 English Precautions & General Maintenance ⢠Place the set on a hard and ï¬Âat surface so that the system does not tilt. ⢠Do not expose the set, batteries, CDs or cassettes to humidity , r ain, sand or excessive heat caused by heating equipment or direct sunlight. ⢠Do not cov er the set. Adequate ventilation with a minimum gap of 6 inches between the ventilation holes and surrounding surfaces is necessar y to prevent heat build- up. ⢠The mechanical par ts of the set contain self-lubricating bear ings and must not be oiled or lubricated. ⢠T o clean the set, use a soft, slightly dampened chamois leather . Do not use any cleaning agents containing alcohol, ammonia, benzene or abrasives as these may harm the housing. T ape deck maintenance T o ensure quality recording and playback of the tape deck, clean par ts A, B and C shown in the diagram below , after approx. 50 hour s of operation, or on average once a month. Use a cotton bud slightly moistened with alcohol or a special head cleaning ï¬Âuid to clean the deck. 1 Open the cassette door by pressing ST OP ⢠OPEN 9/ . 2 Press PLA Y 1 and clean the r ubber pressure roller C. 3 Press P AUSE ; and clean the magnetic heads A, and also the capstan B . 4 After cleaning, press ST OP ⢠OPEN 9/ . â Cleaning of the heads can also be done by playing a cleaning cassette through once. CD pla yer and CD handling ⢠The lens of the CD play er should never be touched! ⢠Sudden changes in the surrounding temperature can cause condensation to form and the lens of your CD play er to cloud ov er . Playing a CD is then not possible. Do not attempt to clean the lens but lea ve the set in a warm environment until the moisture evaporates. ⢠Use only Digital Audio CDs. ⢠Alwa ys close the CD door to keep the CD compar tment dust-free . T o clean, dust the compar tment with a soft dr y cloth. ⢠T o take a CD out of its box, press the centre spindle while lifting the CD . Always pick up the CD by the edge and replace the CD back in its box after use to a void scratching and dust. ⢠T o clean the CD , wipe in a str aight line from the centre towards the edge using a soft, lint-free cloth.
