Impor tant notes for users in the U .K. Mains plug This apparatus is fitted with an approv ed 13 Amp plug. T o change a fuse in this type of plug proceed as follows: 1. Remov e fuse cov er and fuse . 2. Fix new fuse which should be a BS1362 3 Amp , A.S.T .A. or BSI approv ed type . 3. Refit the fuse co ver . If the fitted plug is not suitab le for your sock et outlets, it should be cut off and an appropriate plug fitted in its place . If the mains plug contains a fuse, this should ha ve a value of 3 Amp . If a plug without a fuse is used, the fuse at the distr ibution board should not be greater than 3 Amp . Note: The severed plug must be disposed of to a void a possib le shock hazard should it be inser ted into a 13 Amp socket elsewhere. Ho w to connect a plug The wires in the mains lead are coloured with the following code: blue = neutral (N), brown = liv e (L). As these colour s may not correspond with the colour mar kings iden- tifying the terminals in your plug, proceed as follows: • Connect the blue wire to the terminal mar ked N or coloured black. • Connect the brown wire to the terminal mar ked L or coloured red. • Do not connect either wire to the ear th ter minal in the plug, mar ked E (or e) or coloured green (or green and yello w). Before replacing the plug co ver , make cer tain that the cord gr ip is clamped over the sheath of the lead - not simply o ver the two wires. Notes for battery disposal Y our product contains batter ies cov ered by the European Directive 2006/66/EC, which can- not be disposed with normal household waste. Please infor m y ourself about the local r ules on separ ate col- lection of batteries because cor rect disposal helps to prevent negative consequences f or the environmental and human health. Po w er Supply Whenever conv enient, use the power supply cord if you want to conser ve batter y life . Make sure you remo ve the plug from the set and wall outlet before inser ting batter ies. Batteries (not included) 1 Open the batter y door and inser t 6 batter ies, type R-14 , UM-2 or C-cells, (prefer ably alka- line) with the correct polar ity as indicated by the " " and " – " symbols inside the compar tment. 2 Replace the batter y door , making sure the bat- teries are firmly and cor rectly in place. Po w er Supply General Operation / T uner Batteries contain chemical substances, so they should be disposed of pr operly. • Incor rect use of batter ies can cause electrolyte leakage and will corrode the compar tment or cause the batteries to bur st : • Do not mix batter y types: e.g. alkaline with car- bon zinc . Only use batter ies of the same type f or the set. • When inser ting new batteries , do not tr y to mix old batteries with the new ones . • Remove the batter ies if the set is not to be used f or a long time. Using A C pow er W ARNING: Always check you hav e com- pletely switched off the set, before you change or disconnect power supply . 1 Check if the power v oltage , as shown on the type plate located on the bottom of the set, corresponds to your local power supply . If it does not, consult your dealer or ser vice center . 2 Connect the power cord to the AC MAINS~ inlet and the wall socket. The set is now connected and ready for use. 3 To switch the set off completely , withdr aw the power cord from the wall sock et. 4 Install the unit near the A C outlet and where the A C po wer plug can be easily reached. • Disconnect the power cord from the wall socket to protect your set during heavy thun- der storms. Children could ser iously injure themselves as the free end of the cable ma y still be live if only the connector is remo ved from the MAINS socket at the back of the unit. The type plate is located on the bottom of the set. Helpful hints: – To avoid unnecessar y energy consumption, always adjust the Source selector to OFF after using the set. G eneral operation Switching on and off and selecting the function 1 To select your sound source, adjust the Source selector to: CD , FM or MW . 2 To switch off the set, adjust the Source selector to OFF position. 3 To switch to LINE IN mode, connect an external audio source to the LINE-IN inlet. Helpful hints: • The set switches to LINE IN mode auto- matically when an external audio source is connected, no matter the set is in CD , FM or MW mode. • The LINE-IN inlet is not for earphones. Adjusting volume and sound Adjust the sound with the V OLUME and DBB controls. Radio reception 1 Adjust the Source selector to FM or MW . 2 Tu r n TUNING to tune to a station. Helpful hints: To impro ve radio reception • For FM, extend, incline and turn the telescop- ic antenna for best reception. Reduce its length if the signal is too strong. • For MW , the set uses a b uilt-in antenna. Direct this antenna for best reception by turning the whole set. AZ102_05_ENG_CCR 2010.3.30 15:14 Page 7
Pla ying a CD • This CD play er plays Audio Discs including CD-Recordables (CD-R) and CD-Rewritables (CD-RW). • MP3, CD-ROM, CD-I, CD V , VCD , D VD or computer CDs are not possible for pla yback. IMPOR T ANT! CDs encoded with copyright protection technologies by some record companies may be unplayab le by this product. 1 Adjust the Source selector to CD . 2 Open the CD door , and inser t a CD with the printed side facing up, then press the CD door gently to close. ➜ Display shows -- , and later the total n umber of tracks. (See 3) 3 Press 2; to star t playback. 4 To pause playback, press 2; . ➜ Display: 2 flashes. (See 4 ) 5 To resume , press 2; again. 6 To stop CD playback, press 9 . Helpful hints: CD play will also stop when: – you open the CD door ; – you select FM , MW or OFF sound source; – the CD has reached the end. Selecting a differ ent track • Press ∞ / § once or repeatedly until the desired track number appear s in the display . • In the pause/stop position, press 2; to star t playback. Finding a passag e within a track 1 During playback, press and hold ∞ or § . ➜ The CD is played at high speed and with reduced volume. 2 When you recogniz e the passage you want, release ∞ or § to resume normal playback. Pr ogramming track num- bers Y ou may store up to 20 tracks in the desired sequence. If you like, store any track more than once. 1 In the stop position, press PROG to activate programming. ➜ Display: PROG and 00 flash. (See 5 ) 2 Press ∞ or § to select your desired track n umber . 3 Press PROG to store the desired track n umber . ➜ Display: PROG and 00 flash for you to program the next tr ack.. 4 Repeat steps 2 to 3 to select and store all desired tracks in this way . ➜ If y ou attempt to store more than 20 tracks, no tr ack can be selected and the display shows - - - - . 5 To play your program, press 2 / ; . Helpful hints : – When playback of your progr am comes to the stop position, your set will return to normal playback. T o re-enter progr am mode, press PROG in the stop position. Re viewing the pr ogram In the stop position, press PROG repeatedly to see your stored tracks. Erasing a pro gram Y ou can er ase the contents of the memor y by: – in the stop position, press PROG to enter program mode , and then press 9 . – selecting FM , MW or OFF ; – opening the CD door ; Differ ent pla y modes: REPEA T . and SHUFFLE ( See 6 , 7 ) REPEA T Y ou can play the current tr ack or the whole disc repeatedly , and combine REPEA T modes with PROG (PROGRAM) . REP – plays the current track continuously . REP ALL – repeats the entire CD/progr am 1 To select play mode, press REPEA T once or more. ➜ The display shows REP icon or REP ALL icon . 2 Press 2; to star t playback if in the stop/ pause position. 3 To return to nor mal playback, press REPEA T repeatedly until the modes are no longer dis- play ed . – Y ou can also press 9 to cancel your pla y mode. SHUFFLE Yo u can play all the tracks in r andom order . 1 In the stop position, press SHUFFLE to switch on shuffle play . ➜ Display shows SHUFFLE icon . 2 To switch off shuffle play , press 9 . Helpful hints: – During the shuffle play, when REP function is selected, it will play the cur rent shuffled track repeatedly , or when the REP ALL function is selected, it will repeat the shuffle play of the entire CD . CD pla yer and CD handling • If the CD play er cannot read CDs cor rectly , use a cleaning CD to clean the lens before taking the set to repair . • The lens of the CD play er should never be touched! • Sudden changes in the surrounding temperature can cause condensation on the lens of your CD pla yer . Playing a CD is then not possible. Do not attempt to clean the lens but lea ve the set in a warm environment until the moisture evaporates. •A lwa ys close the CD door to av oid dust on the lens. •T o clean the CD , wipe in a str aight line from the center towards the edge using a soft, lint-free cloth. Do not use cleaning agents as they may damage the disc. • Never write on a CD or attach any stickers to it. Safety information • Place the set on a flat, hard and stable surface so that the system does not tilt. • Where the MAINS plug or an appliance cou- pler is used as the disconnect device, the dis- connect device shall remain readily operable. • Do not expose the set, batter ies, CDs to humidity , r ain, sand or excessive heat caused by heating equipment or direct sunlight. • The apparatus shall not be exposed to dr ip- ping or splashing. • Adequate ventilation with a minimum gap of 15cm (6 inches) between the ventilation holes and surrounding surfaces is necessar y to prevent heat build-up . • Do not cov er the ventilation openings with items such as newspaper s, table-cloths, cur- tains, etc . • No objects filled with liquids, such as vases, shall be placed on the apparatus. • No naked flame sources, such as lighted can- dles, should be placed on the appar atus. • The mechanical par ts of the set contain self- lubricating bear ings and must not be oiled or lubricated. •T o clean the set, use a dr y cloth. Reconnect after a f ew seconds -- , Er or 01 indication – No CD inserted • Inser t a CD – CD badly scratched or dirty • Replace/ clean CD , see Maintenance – Laser lens steamed up •W ait until lens has cleared – CD-R/CD-R W is blank or not finalized • Use a finaliz ed CD-R/CD-RW or suitable CD Audio disc only Note: Make sure the CD is not encoded with cop y- right protection technologies, as some do not conform to the Compact Disc standard. The CD skips tracks – CD damaged or dirty • Replace or clean CD – Program /shuffle is active • Quit program/ shuffle mode Note: A CD badly scratch or dirty may result in improper oper ation . Tr oubleshooting If a fault occur s, fir st check the points listed below before taking the set f or repair . If you are unab le to remedy a problem by follo wing these hints, consult your dealer or ser vice centre . W ARNING: Do not open the set as there is a risk of electric shock.
