About This User Manual This user guide contains all the information you need to know about how to setup and watch a vailable 'Fr eevie w' channels using your set top bo x. What is Fr ee view? It is the new , free digital ser vice currentl y pro viding up to 30 free digital TV channels, o ver 20 digital radio stations plus a whole new w orld of interactive services. It's broad- cast from transmitters and r eceived via a r ooftop aerial. It works lik e traditional TV , but because the signals are digital you need a set top bo x to conv ert them. This means more channels can be transmitted with extra f ea- tures such as interactivity and widescr een pictures. Safety is Important T o ensure your saf ety and the safety of others, please ensure y ou read the Saf ety Instructions befor e you oper- ate this pr oduct. Note: K eep this inf ormation in a safe place for futur e refer- ence . Safety Considerations Position the cables so that the y cannot be walk ed on or pinched by items placed on or against them. - Do not use the set top box in humid or damp condi- tions. - Do not allow the set top box to get w et. - Do not expose the set top bo x to dripping or splashing. - Do not place water filled obje cts such as vases on top of the set top box. - Do not place nak ed flame sources, such as candles, on top of the set top box. G ETTING S TAR TED 7 English Digital Set T op Bo x Front vie w Rear view Mains Adaptor The Remote Contr ol Using the Remote Contr ol T o use the remote control, point it to wards the fr ont of the set top box. The remote control has a range of up to 7 meters fr om the set top box at an angle of up to 60 degr ees. The remote contr ol will not ope rate if its path is block ed. W arning: Sunlight or very bright light will decrease the sensitivity of the remote contr ol. Mains adaptor A mains pow er adaptor has been supplied for po wering this equipment. It has an integral cable terminated in a pow er connector to plug directly into the 12V connector on the back of the Digital Set T op Box. The adaptor is shown on the right. Plug the cable into the 12V DC connector on the rear panel. Insert the adaptor body into a suitable mains outlet sock et. Note that the only r ecommended wa y to disconnect the Digital Set T op Box from the mains suppl y is to remo ve the adaptor fr om the mains socket. If the mains sock et is fitted with a switch, this could be used instead. 10 G ETTING S TARTED English Switching on for the f irst time 1 Connect your equipment accor ding to the appr opriate system diagram given on the pr evious pages and po wer up/turn on the equipment. During initialisation the indicator on the front panel will flash red f or a fe w seconds and then remain off. If the indi- cator is red (stand b y) press the Pow e r k ey on the remote contr ol. The front panel indicator will no w be off. 2 T o switch off the set top box, press Pow e r again. With the Set T op Box on, the FIRST TIME INST ALLA- TION window displa ys. Y ou are ask ed to enter the type of TV set you ar e using. 3 Use the k eys to choose either NORMAL 4:3 or WIDESCREEN 16:9. 4 Press the k ey to start installation. The following message displa ys. 5 Use the k eys to highlight Ye s and then pr ess the k ey . The system then starts to sear ch all channels for a vailable radio and TV stations. This ma y tak e a fe w minutes. The stations found are listed in the centr e panel. A progr ess bar below the listing panel sho ws the channels searched so far within the scan range (21 - 68). When scanning has finished, the r eceived stations ar e automatically arranged in n umerical order . The TV set then pla ys the statio n at the top of this sorted list. The Info box f or the TV station pla ying displa ys for a short time . The TV station continues to pla y the pro- gramme. Note: Y our receiver , as with any electronic equipment, con- sumes pow er . In order to reduce pow er consumption, please switch your receiver to standby when not in use. U SING THE S ET T OP B OX 11 English Using the Set T op Bo x Channel List The Channel List presents a lis t of all channels found dur- ing the channel search described earlier . The list com- prises radio and TV channels. They ha ve been allocated a channel (ref erence) number and ar e listed in this numeri- cal order . The Channel List can be used to watch and listen to the selected channels. Y ou may delete channels fr om the list, edit the name of the channel, set a passw ord to access the channel, and to add the channel to y our list of fa vourite channels. 1 Press the OK k ey to displa y the Channel List , see below for an example. This shows a TV channel selected. When a radio channel is selected the picture frame will be blank. T o W atch a channel 1 Use to na vigate through the channel list until y ou reach the channel y ou want to watch. 2 Use to step along the options until you r each W atch . 3 Press to watch the selected channel in the picture window located at the top right corner . 4 T o watch the channel on full screen press again or press EXIT . T o Delete a Channel 1 Use to na vigate through the channel list until y ou reach the channel y ou want to delete . 2 Use to step along the options until you r each Delete . 3 Press to delete the selected channel in the picture window , top right corner . A confirmation box opens up . 4 Answer Ye s or No as requir ed. If you ans wer Ye s the channel will be r emoved fr om the list and will no longer be a vailable to watch/listen to . T o Edit a channel name 1 Use to navigate thr ough the channel list until you reach the channel y ou want to edit. 2 Use to step along the options until you reach Edit Name . 3 Press to select the edit name function. The selected channel name appears in a text bo x that opens below the pictur e window . 12 U SING THE S ET T OP B OX English 5 Use to step along the characters of the name and modify each as requir ed. The new name can be shorter or longer than the existing name. Maximum length is 16 characters. Press to confirm the ne w name. T o Lock a channel This function allows y ou to set a passwor d to gain access to selected channels. Note: When locking individual c hannels also loc k the menu. 1 Use to na vigate through the channel list until y ou reach the channel y ou want to lock. 2 Use to step along the options until you r each Lock . 3 Press to set the lock. The lock symbol appears alongside the selected chan- nel in the list. Enter your Lock K ey (0000 is the default setting. This ma y be changed in the Configuration menu - See page 13). 4 Press again to remo ve the lock. The next time you select to watch this channel y ou will be ask ed for a passw ord - the Enter Lock K ey window will be displa yed for this. Y o u will only be able to watch this channel if y ou enter a valid number . If you enter a wrong number the Wr ong Lock K ey box will be displa yed briefl y . When a valid number is enter ed the channel will be pla yed. T o Add a channel to y our Fa vourites list 1 Use to step along the options until you reach Fa vourites . 2 Use to navigate thr ough the channel list until you reach the channel y ou want to add to your fa vourites list. 3 Use to select one of the available Fa vourites lists. 4 Press to set this channel as a fav ourite to the selected list. 5 A fav ourites symbol appears alongside the selected channel in the list. The symbol indicates the number of the fa vourites list. 6 Press again to remove from the fa vourites list. See page 16 on how to activate the fa vourites lists. U SING THE S ET T OP B OX 13 English Changing Channels Y o u can change channels by using an y of the following methods: Channel br o wse ke ys l Use the P and P- k eys (channel up/down) to br owse up and down the a vailable channels. Number k eys (0-9) The complete channel number must be enter ed within 3 seconds of the first digit entry . l For example, to watch channel 43, press k ey 4 and then key 3 . The entered channel n umber will be displa yed in top left of the TV screen and the TV will sho w the entered chan- nel. Channel list 1 Press to view the list of a vailable channels in the Channel List or Press MENU to displa y the Main Menu. There select Channel List and pr ess . 2 Select the requir ed channel using the keys. 3 Press to view/listen to the channel in the window . Press EXIT to g o to full screen. Configuration The Configuration window allo ws you to customise vari- ous settings. 1 Press MENU to displa y the Main Menu. There select Configuration and press . Y o u can select from the a vailable options for each of the items in the Configuration window . See below for a typical displa y . The text along the low er banner changes according to the item selected. 2 Use the k eys to disp la y the options in turn. 3 Use to navigate thr ough the configuration list until you r each the item you want to re-confi gure. 4 Use to step through the options until you r each the new setting. Some configurations r equire further information to be entered in subwindo ws which are displa yed when these items are selected. 5 Press EXIT to close the configuration window and return to the pre viously displa yed channel. The configuration settings ar e stored automatically as the y wer e set at the time you pressed the EXIT key . Receiver Upgrade When Receiver Upgrade is selected f or re-configuring y ou will be presented with the f ollowing window: 1 The upgrade will be carried out automatically and the listed Receiver Upgrade v ersion number will be changed accordingly . Audio Language: Y ou can choose the default play ed audio lan- guage if a program is br oadcasted in more than one language. Subtitle Language If subtitles are a vailbable , you ma y choose the language here. TV -T ype: Choose the type of TV you ha ve 4:3 / 16:9. Wide- Screen Mode: Set your pr eferred mode f or movies or shows that are br oadcast in 16:9. Note: If your TV type is set to Widescr een this function is not a vailable. TV Out: Output can either be RGB, CVBS or S-Video . Effect will be seen instantly on TV VCR Out: Output can either be CVBS or S-Video . Fa vourite mode: T urn Fav ourites Mode on/off. Select one of the Fa vourite Lists. Receiver Upgrade: T o download software upgrades fr om broadcast- ers or the manufactur er to furt her enhance the curr ent ser vice . Parental Settings: Create vie wing restrictions on all a vailable chan- nels. Once activated a lock k ey code must be entered to vie w the TV channels. DTR 200.book Seite 13 Donne rstag, 29. 14 U SING THE S ET T OP B OX English P arental Settings The Parental Setting f eature allows y ou to password pr o- tect groups of men us or allow access to all menus. 1 Use to highlight P arental Settings . 2 Press and enter the Lock K ey when ask ed for it (default is 0000). The window below displa ys: 3 Use to step through and displa y the a vailable options: Maturity Lock Select an age for childr en or a category for which viewing will be possible without entering the lock k ey . Menu L ock Select Main Menu or Installation to lock these menus. 4 Use to highlight Set Lock K ey . 5 Press A second sub-window displa ys. 6 Enter the new Lock K ey code in the code entr y box using the number k eys (0-9). Input now switches to the Confirm code entr y box. 7 Enter the same Lock K ey code in this windo w using the number k eys (0-9). The second sub-window displa ys K ey Lock Changed and then closes. 8 Press EXIT to Apply Setting and re turn to the Configura- tion menu. Audio Languag e T o check what is available: 1 Press the MENU ke y to display the Main men u. 2 Use to select Audio Menu . 3 Press 4 If alternatives ar e a vailable use to select the desired language. 5 Press to apply these settings and exit this function. This change is only temporarily f or the curre nt program. Timers Y o u can use the Timer function to turn your Set T op Box on and off in Stand-by and also to automatically s witch channels when your Set T op Box is on. Press the MENU k ey to displa y the Main menu. 1 Use to select Timers . 2 Press The Pro gramme Timers menu displa ys. Electr onic Pro gram Guide The Electronic Pr ogram Guide provides the user with a brief description of the curr ently selected pr ogram in the list of channels. The fiv e channels listed are a windo w on all stored channels. 1 T o displa y the Electronic Pr ogram Guide , press the EPG k ey . An example of an EPG window is given belo w . 2 Use to navigate thr ough Channels. A brief description of the highlighted channel name appears in the upper left panel of the window with its name and broadcast time. 3 Use to step to the Next Ev ent . The upper left panel now co ntains the details of the Next Event . Reminder : When Next Event has been selected, ther e is an opportunity to set a reminder for a particular program. Press OK on the selected pr ogram and a clock symbol is shown. Additional Functions Information / Help k ey The INFO ke y has two functions accor d ing to the curr ent status. When a TV or Radio channel is pla ying: 1 press the INFO k ey to displa y program information: - Channel name and number . - Current pr ogram name, star t and end pla y times. - Next program name and start and end pla y times. - Signal lev el for curr ent channel. - Time of da y . - TV or Radio icon. 2 Press the INFO k ey again while pr ogram information dis- pla ys to get the EPG description of the programm pla ying. 3 Press the INFO k ey again to close the window . When no channel is pla ying: 1 T o get help about the current selection in a window , press the INFO k ey f or rele vant information.
