T o fully benefit fr om the suppor t that Philips offers, r egister your product at www .philips.com/welcome. 3 Install Microsoft ® Window s Vista, XP , 2000, ME, MA C OS 9.0 or higher : • The device driv er is installed automatically when the drive is connected to a USB port of the computer . Howe ver , with some USB 2.0 cards or boar ds, you ma y need to initiate installation manually . In this case, follow the on-screen instructions to sear ch for a suitable driver . Refer to the operating system's Help file if y ou need any help . Note Do not remo ve USB flash drive fr om the computer USB por t as long as the download pr ocess is in progress. Window s 98SE: Download the device driv er at http://www .philips.com/storag e . Remov e the protective ca p from the USB connector and turn it backwards (fig. 1). Insert the flash drive USB connector into one of the computer’ s USB ports (fig. 2). > The New Hardwar e wizard starts and the drive’ s LED lights up. The light intensity of the LED will gradually incr ease and then diminish again.This will continue for as long as the driv e is connected to the computer . Click Search f or the best driver for y our device . Then click the Next button. Click Specify a location. Then click the Bro wse button. When the dialog bo x appears, specify the folder where the installation program is stor ed. Click the OK button to close the dialog bo x . Then click the Next button. Click the Next button. Click the Finish button. > Installation of the driver starts. > Once the installation pr ocess is complete , a drive icon for the USB flash drive a ppears in the My Computer window . After confirming that the drive is in standb y mode you can remov e the drive fr om the computer’ s USB port . 4 Connect Connecting the USB flash drive to y our computer Note Y ou can use a USB extension cable or an optional USB hub to connect the USB flash drive to y our computer . Insert the USB flash drive’ s USB connector into one of the computer’ s USB por ts (fig. 2). > The USB flash drive’ s LED lights up.The light intensity of the LED will gradually incr ease and then diminish again.This will continue for as long as the driv e is connected to the computer . 5 Enjo y Operating the USB flash drive • Once the USB flash drive is connected to the USB port of the computer : – a software package will automaticall y star t up enabling you to activate various applications. See the software help file f or futher instructions. Visit our website www .philips.com/storage for software r elated questions and software updates. – the drive icon f or the USB flash drive will appear .Y ou can now cop y and sav e data on the drive by dragging files and folders on the drive icon, just lik e when you cop y data to a hard disk, CD-R OM, D VD or flopp y disk. > When copying data the LED’ s light intensity will quickly increase and diminish. Notes • Do not remo ve the USB flash drive fr om the computer USB por t while cop ying and saving data otherwise the driv e will no longer be recognized b y your system. • When operating under Windows the drive name varies, depending on your Windows v ersion. 2 7 ENGLISH 2
Disconnecting the USB flash drive fr om your computer Windows ® 98SE • After confirming that the USB flash drive is in standb y mode you can remo ve the flash drive fr om the computer’ s USB por t. Windows ® ME and Windows ® 2000 Double-click the Unplug or eject hardwar e icon in the task bar in the low er right par t of the screen. In the window that appears, select the name of the de vice that is to be remo ved, then click the ST OP button. When the Stop a hardwar e device scr een appears, make sur e the corr ect information is display ed, then click the OK button. When a message appears, indicating that the USB flash drive can be safely r emoved, r emove the USB flash drive fr om the computer’ s USB port . Windows ® Vista, XP Double-click the Safely Remo ve Har dware icon in the task bar in the low er right par t of the screen. In the window that appears, select the name of the de vice that is to be remo ved, then click the ST OP button. When the Stop a hardwar e device scr een appears, make sur e the corr ect information is display ed, then click the OK button. When the message Safe to Remo ve Har dware appears, remo ve the the USB flash drive fr om the computer’ s USB por t. Mac OS 9.0 and higher Drag the drive icon to the T rash .
