W e ha ve tried to make the packaging easy to separate into three mater ials: cardboard (bo x), pol ystyrene f oam (buff er) and polyethylene (bags, protective f oam sheet). Y our system consists of mater ials which can be recycled and reused if disassembled b y a specializ ed company . Please obser ve the local regulations regarding the disposal of packaging materials, exhausted batter ies and old equipment. Saf ety Information â Place the system on a flat, hard and stable surface. â Place the system in a location with adequate ventilation to prev ent inter nal heat build-up in y our system. Allow at least 10 cm (4 inches) clearance from the rear and the top of the unit and 5 cm (2 inches) from each side . â The v entilation should not be impeded by co ver ing the v entilation openings with items, such as newspaper s, table-cloths, cur tains, etc. â Do not expose the system, batteries or discs to excessiv e moisture , r ain, sand or heat sources caused by heating equipment or direct sunlight. â No naked flame sources, such as lighted candles, should be placed on the appar atus. â No objects filled with liquids, such as vases, shall be placed on the appar atus. â If the system is brought directly from a cold to a war m location, or is placed in a ver y damp room, moisture may condense on the lens of the disc unit inside the system. Should this occur , the CD play er would not operate nor mally . Leav e the power on f or about one hour with no disc in the system until normal playback is possible. â The mechanical par ts of the set contain self- lubricating bear ings and must not be oiled or lubricated. â When the system is switched to Standb y mode , it is still consuming some pow er . This product can produce sounds in decibel ranges that may cause hear ing loss for a nor mal per son, even for exposure less than a minute. The higher decibel ranges are offered for those that ma y hav e already exper ienced some hearing loss. â Sound can be deceiving. Over time y our hear ing "comfor t level" adapts to higher volumes of sound. So after prolonged listening, what sounds "nor mal" can actually be loud and harmful to y our hearing. T o guard against this, set your v olume to a safe lev el before your hearing adapts and lea ve it there. To establish a safe volume le vel: â Set y our volume control at a lo w setting. â Slo wly increase the sound until y ou can hear it comfor tably and clear ly , without distor tion. Listen for r easonable periods of time: â Prolonged exposure to sound, even at normally "safe" lev els, can also cause hearing loss. â Be sure to use y our equipment reasonably and take appropriate breaks. Mounting stand onto the set MCM276R is equipped with a stand. A Speak er connections Use the supplied speakers only. Using other speakers can damage the set or the sound quality will be neg atively affected. â Connect the cable of the left speaker to LEFT (red and black) and the cab le of the right speaker to RIGHT (red and b lack) as follo ws: a. Press the clip of the red terminal and fully inser t the str ipped por tion of the colored (or mar ked) speaker cable into the sock et, then release the clip b. 14 English Installation 2 Fit the plug of the loop antenna to AM ANTENNA as shown belo w 3 Adjust the position of the antenna for optimal reception (as far a way as possible from the TV , VCR or other radiation sources) FM antenna The wire antenna supplied can only be used to receive nearby stations. For better reception w e recommend using a cable antenna system or an outdoor antenna. 1 Extend the wire antenna and fit it to FM ANTENNA as shown below AM ANTENNA Or Inser t the loop antenna into the slot on the set Note: If you are using a cable antenna system or an outdoor antenna, fit the antenna plug, instead of the wire antenna, to FM ANTENNA . By connecting a USB mass storage device (including USB flash memor y , USB flash play er s or memor y cards) to the Hi-Fi system, y ou can enjoy the deviceâ s stored music through the po werful speak er s of Hi-Fi system. 1 Check y ou have unfolded the control panel 2 Inser t the USB deviceâ s USB plug into the socket on the set âÂÂs f oldable control panel Connecting an additional appliance Connecting a USB de vice or memor y card or for the devices with USB cable: a. Inser t one plug of the USB cable (not supplied) to the socket on the set âÂÂs foldable control panel b. Inser t the other plug of the USB cable to the USB output ter minal of the USB device or for the memor y card: a. Inser t the memor y card into a card reader (not supplied) b . The machine does not contain any user- ser viceable par ts . Modification of the product could result in hazardous radiation of EMC or other unsafe operation. Connecting a docking cradle See âÂÂDock (optional)â for details. Using A C po wer 1 Make sure all the connections ha ve been made bef ore switching on the po wer supply 2 Connect the A C power cord to the wall sock et. This switches on the po wer supply When MCM276R is switched to standby , it is still consuming some po wer . To disconnect the system fr om the power supply completely , r emov e the power plug fr om the wall sock et. The type plate is located on the r ear of the set. W arning! To avoid o verheating of the system, a safety circuit has been built in. Therefor e , your system may s witch to Standby mode automatically under extr eme conditions . To select 24-hour clock or 12-hour clock, â On the remote control, press V OLUME /- once or more (or tur n V OLUME on the set) â On the remote control, press DISPLA Y/ CLOCK to confir m â The hour s digits star t flashing 3 Hold down or press V OLUME /- repeatedl y to set the hour s (or tur n V OLUME on the set) 4 Press DISPLA Y/CLOCK to confirm â The minutes digits star t flashing 5 Hold down or press V OLUME /- repeatedl y to set the minutes (or turn VO L UME on the set) 6 Press DISPLA Y/CLOCK to confir m â T o exit without storing the clock setting press ST OP 9 Helpful hints: â The cloc k setting will be er ased when the system is disconnected fr om the po wer supply. â The set will exit from the cloc k setting mode if no button is pressed within 90 seconds. English 17 Basic Functions Switching on/off the set and selecting functions 1 To switch on, press ST ANDBY -ON or SOURCE on the set (or y on the remote control) â The set switches to the last source selected OR On the remote control, press the source button (e.g. USB , CD , TUNER , DOCK ) 2 When the set is on, press ST ANDBY -ON to switch off (or y on the remote control) 3 To select your function, press SOURCE once or more on the set (or USB , CD , TUNER , DOCK on the remote control) Helpful hints: â In the standby/Eco power mode, the tone, sound settings , tuner presets and the volume level (up to a maximum volume level of 20) will be retained in the setâ s memor y. Auto-standb y When the set has reached the end of CD playback and remains in the stop position f or more than 15 minutes, the set will switch off automatically to sa ve power .
