11 Getting star ted 3 Getting star ted 3. 1 Conne c t th e ba se sta ti on 1 Place the base stat ion in a central location near t he telephone line s oc ket a nd e l ec tr i c it y so c ket. 2 Connect the line cor d and the power cable to thei r c or responding connectors at t he back of the base sta tio n. 3 Connect the o ther end of the line cor d an d pow er cab le to th eir r es pect ive sock ets. T h e l in e ad ap to r m ay n o t b e at t ac he d t o the line cord . In thi s case, yo u ha v e to con nect th e lin e ada pto r to th e li ne co rd first befor e plugging the line cor d to the line sock et. Av oid placing the base station too c lose to large metal objec ts such as fi ling cabinets, radiators or electrical appliances. This can impair the range and sound qu ality . Buildin gs with thick internal and external wal ls ma y impair transmission of signals to and fr om the ba se. If alkaline batteries ar e used instead of rec h ar gea b l e ba t t e ri e s , “ WA R N I N G BA TT ” wil l show on the displa y and the batter y icon wil l blink quickl y . 1 Sl ide o u t th e ba tter y cover . 2 Place the batte r ies in the corr ect polari ty as indicat ed and r eplace the co ve r . 3.2.2 Charge batter y The handset must be charged for at least 24 hours befor e using it for the first time. When the batter y lev el becomes lo w , the low batter y sensor aler ts you by sounding an audible tone and blinking the batter y icon . If the batte r y lev el beco mes exceedingl y low , the phone automati cally swi tch es o ff sh o r tly a fte r th e a ler t and an y function in p rogr es s will not be sa v ed. 1 Place the handset on the charging cradle of the base s tation. A beep is emitted if the handset is placed correctl y . 2 The battery icon on the disp lay blinks dur in g charg e . 3 The battery icon becomes st eady when the handset is fully charged. Optimal batter y l ife is r eached a fter 3 cycl es o f compl ete cha rgin g (ov er 15 hours) and dischargin g, allowing appro ximatel y 12 hours of talk-time and 150 hours of stand-by time. The indo or and outdoo r range of the phone is up t o 50 metres and 300 metres r es pecti vely . When the handset mo ves bey ond the operation range , the antenna icon will blink. After a fe w moments, t he phone will s witch on. The handset does not charge! • Check charger connections . icon is not b linking during charge! • Batter y is full : Ther e is no n eed to charge t he batter y . • Ba d batte r y conta ct : Adjus t the handset slig htl y . • D irty contact: Clean the batteries contact with a cloth moistened wi th alcohol. Communi cation is lost duri ng a call! • Charge t he battery • Mov e closer to the base station. The phone is “Out of range”! • Move c loser to the base station. 10.2 S et-up SEARCHING is displa y ed on handset and icon is blinking! • Move c loser to the base station. • Make s ure that your base station is on. • Reset your unit and restart hand set re g i st r a t i on . 10.3 S oun d Handset does not ring! Check that the RI NG V O LUM E is not set to RIN GER O FF , an d mak e sure the ic on is n ot di spla y ed o n the scr een (s ee “Set the Ring V olume” on pa ge 27) . Caller does not hear me! Micr ophon e ma y be m uted: During a c all, pr ess s . Ther e ’ s no dialli ng tone! • No power : Check the connec tions. • Batteries ar e empty: Charge the batteries. • Move c loser to the base station. • Wrong li ne cord used: Use the li ne cord pr ovided. • Line adaptor ma y be requir ed: If applicable , connect the line ada pt or to the li ne co rd .

The handset warms up when making a long call ! • This is a normal beha vior . The handset consumes energy while ca lling. The handset cannot be reg istered to t he b ase stati on! • Maximum number of handsets (5) has been r eached. T o regi ster a new handset, unregister an existing handset. • Remove and r eplace the handset batteries. • T r y again by disconnecting and connecting the bas e station pow er supply and fol low the p r ocedur e to r egister a handset (see “Regis t er” on page 29). Caller number is not displ a y ed! • Ser vice is not activated: Check y our subscription w ith your network operator . I cannot chang e the setti ngs of m y vo ic e m a il . • Operator voice mai l is managed by your operator and not the p hone itself. Ple ase contac t your operat or should y ou want to change the set tin gs. My handset k eeps g oing into idle mode! • If there ar e no ke y pr esses f or 15 seconds, the handset will automatic ally r eturn to idl e mode. It will also r etu rn to idle mode automaticall y when yo u place the handset bac k on the base station (if auto hang-up featur e is on). Phonebook entr y cannot be stored and MEMOR Y FULL is d ispla y ed! • Delete an entr y to fr ee memor y befor e sa ving your contact again. The PI N code i s wr ong! • T he default PIN i s 0000. • R ese t t he ha nd set to revert t o th e defa ult PIN c ode if i t has been changed befor e (see “Reset Unit ” o n page 31).
