Insta ll this unit aw ay from hot place s such as near the hea ter ou tlet. ⢠Optimum p erformance i s obtained wh en the unit is installed at a n angle of les s than 60ð . DIN Front/ Rear-mount This un it can be p roperly installed either fr om âÂÂFrontâ (conventio nal DIN Fr ont-mount) or âÂÂRearâ (DI N Rear-mount insta llation, utilizing th readed screw ho les at the sides of unit chassi s). For details , refer to the following inst allation metho ds. 3 ENGLI SH Installation 1. Insert the mounting sleeve into the da shboard. ⢠Whe n installi ng in a shal low spac e, use a su pplied moun ting sleeve . If there is enough sp ace behi nd the unit, use factory supplied m ounting sle eve. 2. Secure the mounting sle eve by using a s crewdriver to bend the meta l tabs (90ð) into plac e. 3. Install th e unit as ill ustrated. Removing the Unit 1. Exte nd top and bott om of the t rim ring outwar ds to re move the t rim ring . (When reattac hing the tr im ring, poin t the side with a groove downwards and attach it.) ⢠It becomes easy to remove the trim ring if th e front pane l is release d. 2. Insert the su pplied extra ction keys into bo th sides of the unit until they click into place. 3. Pu ll the un it out of the dashbo ard. Trim ring DIN Rear-mou nt 1. Extend top a nd bottom of th e trim ring o utwards to remo ve the trim ri ng. (When reattachin g the trim rin g, point the s ide with a gr oove downward s and attach it.) ⢠It b ecomes easy to remove the trim ring if the front pan el is releas ed. 2. Determine the appro priate pos ition where the holes on the bra cket and t he side of the u nit mat ch. 3. Tighten two screws on each si de. ⢠Us e either trus s screws ( 5 mm x 8 mm) or flush sur face screws ( 5 mm x 9 mm), dependin g on the sh ape of scre w holes i n the brack et. 4 ENGLISH Installation Fasteni ng the front pane l If you d o not plan t o detach the fr ont panel, the front panel can b e fastened w ith suppli ed scre w. Screw Connec ting the Un its Notes ⢠When this un it is install ed in a vehicl e without ACC (ac cessory) pos ition on the ignition switch, red cable must be wired to th e terminal t hat can detec t the operatio n of the ignition key. O therwi se, ba ttery drain m ay res ult. ⢠Use this u nit in other tha n the follow ing conditions could result in fire or m alfunction. â Vehicle s with a 12-vol t bat tery an d negat ive gr oundi ng. â Speakers with 50 W (outpu t value) an d 4 ohm to 8 ohm (impeda nce value). ⢠To pre vent s hort-c ircui t, over heati ng or m alfunc tion, be sure to fol low th e direc tions below. â Disconnect the negative termi nal of the battery before installation. â Secure the wiri ng with cable clamps or ad hesive tape. T o protect the wiring, wrap adhesive tape a round the m where they lie against me tal parts. â Place all cable s away from mo ving parts , such as gear shift and s eat rails. â Place all cable s away from ho t places, su ch as near the heater ou tlet. â Do not pass the yell ow cable through a hole into the eng ine compartm ent to conne ct to a battery. â Cover any disc onnected cab le connecto rs with insulati ng tape. â Do not shorten an y cables. â Never cut the insul ation of the po wer cable of this unit in order to shar e the power to oth er equipment. Cur rent capaci ty of the cabl e is limited. â Use a fuse of the rating pres cribed. â Never wire the speaker negat ive cable d irectly to grou nd. â Never band t ogether mult iple speaker âÂÂs negative c ables. ⢠Control s ignal is ou tput thro ugh blue/whit e cable whe n this unit is pow ered on. Con nect it to an externa l power ampâÂÂs s ystem remote co ntrol or the veh icleâÂÂs auto-ante nna relay co ntrol terminal ( max. 300 mA, 12 V DC). If the vehicle is e quipped with a glass ante nna, connect it to the ant enna boost er power su pply terminal . ⢠Never conne ct blue/wh ite cable to ex ternal power ampâÂÂs power te rminal. Al so, never connect it to the power termina l of the auto ant enna. Otherwise , battery drain or malfunctio n may result. ⢠Black cabl e is ground. Th is cable and o ther productâÂÂs ground cable ( especially, high-curren t products such as power amp) must be wire d separately. Oth erwise, fire or malf unction may result if th ey are accid entally detache d. ACC position No ACC position ⢠Cord func tion may diff er according to the product, even if cor d color is the s ame. 5 ENGLI SH Connecting the Units Note Depend ing on the ki nd of ve hicle, the function of 3 * and 5* may be di fferent. In this case, be sure to connect 2* to 5* and 4* to 3*. Connect leads of the same color to each other. Cap (1*) Do not remo ve cap if this terminal is not in use. Yellow ( 3*) Back-up (or a ccessory) Yellow ( 2*) Connect to th e constant 1 2 V supply terminal . Red (5*) Accessory (or back - up) Red (4*) Connect to te rminal co ntrolled by ignition swi ch (12 V DC). Black (chas sis ground) Connect to a c lean, paint-fr ee metal loc ation. ISO connector Note In some vehicl es, the ISO conne ctor may be divided int o two. In thi s case, be sure to connect to both connec tors. Blue/white (6*) Blue/white (7*) Connect to au to-antenna r elay control terminal (m ax. 300 mA 12 V DC). Blue/white Connect to s ystem control ter minal of the power amp (ma x. 300 mA 12 V DC). Antenna ja ck Speaker leads White: Front left White /black : Fron t left - Gray: Front right Gray/black : Front right - Green: Rear left Green/blac k: Rear left - Violet : Rear right Violet/blac k: R ear right - Fuse (10 A ) Yellow /bla ck If you use a n equipment wi th Mute function, wire this lead to the Audio Mute lead on that equipm ent. If not, keep the Aud io Mute l ead free of any connection s. This prod uct Rear o utput The pin posit ion of the I SO connector will differ depen ds on the type of vehicle . Connect 6* an d 7* when Pin 5 is an antenna contr ol type. In a nother type o f vehicle, nev er connect 6* and 7*. 7 ENGLI SH Before You Start Protecti ng your unit from theft The front panel can b e detached to deter the ft. Importan t ⢠Hand le gently when removi ng or att aching the f ront panel. ⢠Av oid subject ing the fr ont panel to excessi ve shocks. ⢠Ke ep the fron t panel out of direct sun light and high tempera tures. Remo ving the fr ont pa nel 1. Press DETACH to r elease t he front pa nel. 2. Grab the fr ont pan el and r emove. 3. Put the f ront panel into p rovided protec tive case fo r safe keeping. Attaching the front panel 1. Slide the fro nt panel to t he left until it clicks. Front pan el and the head uni t are jointe d on the l eft side. M ake sure that the fron t panel has been jointed to th e head unit . 2. Press the right side of th e front panel unt il it is f irmly se ated. ⢠If yo u canâÂÂt attach the front panel to the head unit succe ssfully, try again. Front pa nel may be da maged if yo u attach the front pane l forcedly. 9 ENGLI SH Operating this un it Basic Op erations Turning the unit on and selecting a source You can se lect a sou rce you want to li sten t o. To switc h to the bu ilt-i n CD playe r, loa d a disc in the unit (re fer to page 12 ). * Press SO URCE to sele ct a sourc e. Press SOURCE repeat edly to swi tch betwe en the foll owing sou rces: Tuner â Buil t-in CD pla yer â AUX Notes ⢠In the following cases, the sound so urce will not change: â W hen there i s no disc in t he unit. â W hen the AUX ( auxiliary in put) is set to o ff (refer to pa ge 15). ⢠AUX is set to on by default. Turn off the AU X when not in use (refer to âÂÂSwitching the auxiliary settingâ o n page 15) . ⢠When this unitâÂÂs blue/whi te lead is conn ected to th e vehicleâÂÂs auto-antenna relay contro l terminal, the vehicleâÂÂs an tenna extends when this un itâÂÂs source is turned on. To retract the antenna, tu rn the sourc e off. Adjusting the volume * Use VO LUME to adjust the s ound le vel. Turning the unit off * Press SOURC E and hold until the unit tu rns off. Tuner Listening to the radio 1. Press SOU RCE to sele ct the tune r. 2. Press BAN D to selec t a band. Press BAND until the desired band ( F1 , F2 for FM or MW /LW ) is di spla yed. 3. To pe rform man ual tuni ng, bri efly pre ss 4 or 6 . 4. To perf orm seek t uning, pre ss and h old 4 or 6 for a bout one se cond an d releas e. The tu ner will scan t he freque ncie s until a broadc ast str ong eno ugh for good re ceptio n is foun d. ⢠Yo u can cance l seek tunin g by briefl y pressin g 4 or 6 . ⢠If y ou press and h old 4 or 6 you can s kip stati ons. Seek t uning starts as soon as you rel ease t he but ton. Storing and recalling broadcast frequencies * When you find a freq uency th at you want to sto re in memory, pr ess one of prese t tuning buttons 1 to 6 and hold un til the p reset num ber stop s flashi ng. Memorized radio stati on frequenc y can be re called by pressing t he preset tu ning button. ⢠Up to 12 FM st ations, 6 fo r each of th e two FM band s, and 6 M W/LW stati ons can be stored in memory. ⢠Pre ss 8 or 2 to rec all radi o stat ion fre que ncies. Press FUNCTI ON to sel ect LOCA L. 2. Pres s 8 or 2 to turn loca l seek tuning on or off. 3. Pres s 4 or 6 to set the sensitiv ity. FM: LOCAL 1 â LOCAL 2 â LOCAL 3 â LOCAL 4 MW/LW: LOCAL 1 â LOCAL 2 The LOCAL 4 setting al lows recepti on of o nly the s trong est st ations , whil e lower settin gs let yo u rece ive pr ogressi vely weaker statio ns. Storing the strongest broadcast frequencies BSM (bes t stations m emory) let s you automat ically sto re the six s trongest bro adcast frequen cies under pres et tuning buttons 1 to 6 . Once s tored you can tune in to those frequen cies with the touch of but ton. ⢠St oring broad cast freq uencies wi th BSM may re place br oadcast fre quencies yo u have save d using b uttons 1 to 6 . 1. Pres s FUN CTION t o selec t BSM . 2. Pres s 8 to turn BSM on. Six stro ngest broad cast freq uencies wil l be stored in the or der of their s ignal stre ngth. ⢠To cancel the storage process, pr ess 2 . RDS Introduction of RDS operation RDS (rad io data s ystem) con tains inaudi ble inform ations tha t helps s earching of the radio s tations. ⢠RDS service ma y not be pr ovided b y all stati ons. ⢠RDS functions s uch as AF and TA are only active when your radio is t uned to an RDS statio n. Switching the RDS display * Press DI SPLAY. Press DISPLAY repeatedly to switch b etween the following se ttings: Program s ervice na me â PTY informati on â Frequ ency PTY (p rogra m type I D code) info rmati on is lis ted on page 11 . ⢠PT Y informatio n and the f requency a ppear on the display for eight se conds. Receiving PTY alarm broadcast s When the em ergency PT Y code broadc asts, the uni t receives i t automatic ally ( ALARM appears). W hen the b roadcasting ends, the s ystem retur ns to the pr evious sou rce. ⢠An emergency announceme nt can be ca nceled b y pressing TA . Selecting alternative frequencies When the tuner canâÂÂt g et good rec eption, the unit automa tically sear ch for a diff erent station i n a same netw ork. * Press and hol d TA repeatedly to turn AF (alterna tive frequency se arch) on or off. Notes ⢠You can al so turn the AF function on or off in the menu that a ppears with the pressing o f FUNCTION . ⢠Only RDS s tations are tuned in during seek tuning or BSM when AF is on. ⢠When you recall a pre set station, t he tuner may update the preset station with a new frequenc y from the stationâÂÂs A F list. (Thi s is only available when usin g presets on the F1 or F2 bands.) No p reset numbe r appears on the displ ay if the RDS data for the s tation rece ived differs fro m that for the originally stor ed station. ⢠Sound may be temporar ily interrupte d by anothe r program du ring an AF frequency s earch. ⢠AF can be tu rned on o r off indepen dently for eac h FM band. Using PI Seek If the tuner canâÂÂt find a suita ble station, or re ception st atus becomes ba d, the unit will automatica lly search f or a different s tation with a same progra mming. Durin g the search, PI SEEK is displayed and the outp ut is muted . Using Auto PI Seek for preset stations When preset sta tions cannot be recalled, as when tra velling long distances, the uni t can be set to perfor m PI Seek during pr eset recall. ⢠Th e default setti ng for Auto P I Seek is off. 3 ENGLI SH Installation 1. Insert the mounting sleeve into the da shboard. ⢠Whe n installi ng in a shal low spac e, use a su pplied moun ting sleeve . If there is enough sp ace behi nd the unit, use factory supplied m ounting sle eve. 2. Secure the mounting sle eve by using a s crewdriver to bend the meta l tabs (90ð) into plac e. 3. Install th e unit as ill ustrated. Removing the Unit 1. Exte nd top and bott om of the t rim ring outwar ds to re move the t rim ring . (When reattac hing the tr im ring, poin t the side with a groove downwards and attach it.) ⢠It becomes easy to remove the trim ring if th e front pane l is release d. 2. Insert the su pplied extra ction keys into bo th sides of the unit until they click into place. 3. Pu ll the un it out of the dashbo ard. Trim ring DIN Rear-mou nt 1. Extend top a nd bottom of th e trim ring o utwards to remo ve the trim ri ng. (When reattachin g the trim rin g, point the s ide with a gr oove downward s and attach it.) ⢠It b ecomes easy to remove the trim ring if the front pan el is releas ed. 2. Determine the appro priate pos ition where the holes on the bra cket and t he side of the u nit mat ch. 3. Tighten two screws on each si de. ⢠Us e either trus s screws ( 5 mm x 8 mm) or flush sur face screws ( 5 mm x 9 mm), dependin g on the sh ape of scre w holes i n the brack et. Screw Connec ting the Un its Notes ⢠When this un it is install ed in a vehicl e without ACC (ac cessory) pos ition on the ignition switch, red cable must be wired to th e terminal t hat can detec t the operatio n of the ignition key. O therwi se, ba ttery drain m ay res ult. ⢠Use this u nit in other tha n the follow ing conditions could result in fire or m alfunction. â Vehicle s with a 12-vol t bat tery an d negat ive gr oundi ng. â Speakers with 50 W (outpu t value) an d 4 ohm to 8 ohm (impeda nce value). ⢠To pre vent s hort-c ircui t, over heati ng or m alfunc tion, be sure to fol low th e direc tions below. â Disconnect the negative termi nal of the battery before installation. â Secure the wiri ng with cable clamps or ad hesive tape. T o protect the wiring, wrap adhesive tape a round the m where they lie against me tal parts. â Place all cable s away from mo ving parts , such as gear shift and s eat rails. â Place all cable s away from ho t places, su ch as near the heater ou tlet. â Do not pass the yell ow cable through a hole into the eng ine compartm ent to conne ct to a battery. â Cover any disc onnected cab le connecto rs with insulati ng tape. â Do not shorten an y cables. â Never cut the insul ation of the po wer cable of this unit in order to shar e the power to oth er equipment. Cur rent capaci ty of the cabl e is limited. â Use a fuse of the rating pres cribed. â Never wire the speaker negat ive cable d irectly to grou nd. â Never band t ogether mult iple speaker âÂÂs negative c ables. ⢠Control s ignal is ou tput thro ugh blue/whit e cable whe n this unit is pow ered on. Con nect it to an externa l power ampâÂÂs s ystem remote co ntrol or the veh icleâÂÂs auto-ante nna relay co ntrol terminal ( max. 300 mA, 12 V DC). If the vehicle is e quipped with a glass ante nna, connect it to the ant enna boost er power su pply terminal . ⢠Never conne ct blue/wh ite cable to ex ternal power ampâÂÂs power te rminal. Al so, never connect it to the power termina l of the auto ant enna. Otherwise , battery drain or malfunctio n may result. ⢠Black cabl e is ground. Th is cable and o ther productâÂÂs ground cable ( especially, high-curren t products such as power amp) must be wire d separately. Oth erwise, fire or malf unction may result if th ey are accid entally detache d. ACC position No ACC position ⢠Cord func tion may diff er according to the product, even if cor d color is the s ame.
