Attaching Pioneer CD-ROM Drives to Co mputers Running Windows95 August 1995 Windows95 operating system contains built in drivers for Pioneer's DRM-624X, DRM-604X, DR M-602x and DRM-600 CD-ROM drives. These drivers also support the Pioneer DR-U124X. Users can connect the Pioneer CD-ROM drives following the instr uc tion s below, Power ON the computer with Windows95 loaded and separate icons with assigned dr ive letters will be visable in My Computer window for each CD-ROM tray available. Instal ling a Pione er C D-ROM Drive Note: If a Pi oneer CD -ROM D rive h as be en con nected to you r syst em un der DOS or Wi ndows 3 .x rem ove old Pioneer Drivers from the system before installing Wi ndows95. The fol l ow these st eps t o use y our Pi onee r CD-R OM dri ve in Win dows95: 1. If you are newly installing a SCSI controller card, Windows95 should automati ca lly dete ct the card o n boo t up. See the Windows95 User's Manual for information about installing new cards. Also, ref er to Troubleshooting, po int #1 in this do c ument. 2. After you have conf irmed that the SCSI controlle r card is pro perly installed, power down the Pi oneer C D-ROM dri ve and t he c omput er sy stem. Secur ely at tach t he SCS I cabl e between the drive and the SCSI controller in the co mputer. 3. DRM-624X Terminati on O N = DIP SW 2 UP DRM-604X Termination ON = Set separate Termin ation Sw itch ON DRM-602X Terminati on O N = DIP SW 2 UP DR-U124X Termination ON = DIP SW 5 (from right to left) not Jumpered Note: All units can be easily ter minated by using an External Terminator Block and turning the internal termination s w itch OFF. I f the Pio ne e r Dr iv e is in t he midd le of the SC SI Ch a in, ma k e su r e te r mina tio n is O FF. The l ast device on the SCSI chain and the S CSI con troll er card m ust b e termi nated. If you also have an internal SCSI device connec ted to the controller, disable termination on the c ontrol l er. 4. Verify th at each SCSI d evice i s set to a u niqu e SCSI ID address. 5. Power ON the Pion eer CD -ROM d rive. 6. Power O N the co mputer running Windows 95. 7. On boot-up you will see the f loppy drives, hard drives and CD-ROM drive icons appear under the "My Computer" window. One icon will appear for each CD-ROM disc installed in the Pi oneer C D-R OM dri ve.
Troubleshoot ing I f the CD- RO M ico n f ails to ap pea r in "M y Co mput er " win do w a fte r la un ch ing u nd e r Win d ow s9 5" 1. Check for SCSI Card Conf licts If after fo llowing the s teps to connec t the Pionee r CD-ROM drive, the CD-ROM drive ico ns are not visabl e on boot -up, ch eck f or SCS I card c onfli cts. Follow this path: My Computer / Contr ol Panel / System / Device Manager / SC SI Controllers Se lec t t he SCSI co ntr o lle r yo u h ave in st al le d , t he n se lec t " Pr ope r tie s " and the c lick on "R eso ur ces ". This wi ll a llo w y o u t o ch ec k inf o r mat ion a bo ut t he S CSI ca r d, s uc h as: I/O Address (I nput/O utput Address) IRQ Address (I nterrupt Reques t Address) DMA Addr ess (Di rect Me mory Acce ss) A box in the lower portion of the window will indicate if the address is conf lict ing with the address of another card. If thi s is the ca se, pl ease r efer to the man ual t hat shi ps with t he SCSI c ontrol ler ca rd or other ca rds you have i nstall ed and ch anged the confl ictin g address. N ote: Th e addr ess must b e physcially changes on the card or by using sof tware provided by the card manufacturer . If Windows 95 launches but doe s no t recognize the SC SI controller c ard, yo u may want to select: My Computer / Contr ol Panel / Add New Hardwar e / SC SI Controllers / Resources Make sure all setting's fo r the card match those physically set on the c ard and that there are no co nf lict s. Note: Onl y use "Add New Hardware" to check information about SC SI contro llers. Do not use it as part of the installation p rocess for the CD-ROM drive. Pioneer's CD-ROM drive is no t considered "New Hardware" belonging to the co mpute r. 2. Che ck Hard wa re Verify t he Int egrity of th e SCSI Chai n: 1. Power down the computer and CD-ROM drive . 2. Verify the CD-ROM drive has been assigned it's own unique SCSI ID. 3. Check that the SCSI cables are secure ly attached. 4. Make sur e the l ast devi ce on th e SCSI ch ain i s termin ated. 5. If the CD-ROM drive is in the middle o f the chain it must be un-terminate d. 6. Run a self test o n the unit the unit to make sure it is funct ioning pr operly. 7. Refer to bulletin on running se lf test. 8. Verify t hat the C D-ROM di scs are pr operl y loade d in to the dri ve. 9. Make sure the di scs are loaded shiny si de up in the DRM-624X/604X/602 X.
